Installing Java Dialog Instance - Error while connecting to DB

We would like to add a dialog instance to our production Portal server.  We installed Portal as stand-alone on the central instance.  We have another server we would like to setup to serve as a Portal dialog instance.
So far I have installed Windows 2003 Server Standard.  Installed MSSQL server client tools (database is mssql server).  Installed jdk 1.4.62.  Set java home and path environmental variables.  I'm now installing the Java dialog instance (I can't find any documentation on this).  From Netweaver installation CD> SAP NetWeaver '04 Support Release 1> Java System> MS SQL Server> Dialog Instance Installation>
SAP System ID: (sid) ES2
Central Host: SAPEPS02
Path to JAVA DVD supplied> JDK Directory confirmed> Domain paramaters confirmed> domain<sid> account passwords supplied> domain<service><sid> account password supplied> Instance number confirmed>
Installation started> It gets to step 8 and fails stating "Error while connecting to DB".  I looked through all the log files and couldn't come up with anything (i'm very thorough).
I tried adding the users to the database as dbowners (no luck).  I installed SQL server 2000 with SP4.  No where during this installation did I get prompted for database parameters?
Is there something basic i'm missing?  Does this scenario not work?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Pointing me in the right direction of the correct documentation would also be appreciated.  Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Brad Dridi

  • Dialog Instance Installation - Error while connecting to DB

    Hi All,
We have installed a WAS 640 SP15 and successfully running a Portal EP6.0 (SP15) on the same. Now, we wish to install a dialog instance on the same for load balancing the Portal on the same Hardware/Server.
During the DI installation in the phase "Configuring J2EE Engine", the installation fails with the error "Error while connecting to DB".
I tried to restart the installation by replacing the JDBC and OS_LIB of the new instance with the JDBC and OS_LIB of the already running CI instance but it didnt help either.
Any pointers in this direction will be appreciated.
    Thank you!!
    Regards,
    Abhijeet

We have the same issue.  We have a NW04 SP19 J2EE standalone WAS and are using the SP19 SAPINST to add a second dialog instance on the same host as the central instance.
We restarted the Oracle listener  ... to no avail
The error in the Oracle batchconfig log is given below.
Thanks for any insight that you can provide.

  • Installing a Dialog instance on a 2008 server while having the CI on 2000

    Hi all,
Can we do such a thing? Install the Dialog Instance on a 2008 server while having the CI on 2000?
    Thanks!
    Samer

    Yes you can do it.
What you need to keep in mind that both system should be in network and /sapmnt should be mounted into DI server.
We have tested it into 2 different Linux version yesterday.

  • Java Dialog Instance

    Hi,
we installed a additional dialog instance for our entprise portal. the instance is up&running, but no one is connected. i can manage the instance in the config tool and added 3 servers.
do i have to set up a additional web dispatcher?  - like mentioned in this thread How to Load Balance between java dialog instance in BI Portal)

    Hi,
When you have your first instance, i.e, the Central Instance, your users should connect to this system via URL like this:
    http://<ci_host>:<port>/xxxx
Then the dispatcher in the CI will distribute all the requests to the server node(s) as a kind of load balancing.
While later if you install an additional Dialog Instance, the DI will have its own URL for accessing:
    http://<di_host>:<port>/xxxx
and of course the dispatcher of this DI will distritute the requests inside this instance.
So your users can either access the DI or CI directly with the specific URL, or you can configure any load balancer in front
    of the two(or more) instances.
SAP WebDispather is just one of the chooses.   --- not the only one.
As you mentioned, you have already 1 webdispathcer, but not sure what it is used for.
While if it is just used for this system, so you can add the DI to to the balancing list, that is it.
Not needed to install another web dispatcher.
    Regard,
    Thunder

  • Java.sql.SQLException: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-24

    Hi All,
Am having serious problem with ORA-24327 and the behavior is very very unpredictable. I have couple of environment where the same error comes in different context. The recent one was surprising. I have describe bellow the environment configuration and the stack trace. The error which surprised me was when I use type 3 driver while starting weblogic I get ORA 24327 but when I use Type 4 it starts properly. If you could kindly provide solution it would be great help. I would also appreciate if u can provide information which driver to use where performance is the major concern. I would also appreciate if u could provide feed-back from the industry about booth the driver. Apart from that I have couple have environment where it occurs when 10/12 user access simultaneously. All the open connection is closed in program properly still am getting the error.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Cheers,
    Tapas

    Hi,
I guess you can try some of these:
    - Make sure you're not missing an entry inside your tnsnames.ora file. Thin driver does not require the information inside that file, as opposed to Weblogic's OCI driver. If you are able to connect to the DB using a thin driver, then the problem is most probably (WL)driver-related.
    - Make sure you've properly configured the DB user / password inside your weblogic.properties (config.xml if WL6+).
    - Make sure you're able to access all drivers and classes required (PATH, CLASSPATH, etc...)
    - Make sure the OCI driver version you are using is fully compatible with the Oracle (server) version you are pointing to.
    - Try to access the DB user through some other client (for instance, SQLPlus*).
Hope this is of some help,
    Freddy.

  • Error while connecting to workflow builder after installation...first time!

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle Workflow Builder 2.6.3 recently on my system and after installation, when I am trying to connect the workflow builder (using database username/password of that particular instance), it is throwing me the following error:
    220: Unable to set NLS_LANGUAGE.
210: Oracle Error: ORA-01403: no data found
    . SQL text: SELECT NLS_LANGUAGE FROM WF_LANGUAGES WHERE :l IN (NLS_LANGUAGE, CODE)
In the previous threads when I searched for the same issue, I found that if
    select value from v$nls_parameters
    where parameter='NLS_CHARACTERSET';
returns the value other then WE8ISO8859P1 then that is what I should change my NLS_LANG entry for the builder - i.e. AMERICAN_AMERICA.<character set>.
But I am not getting where should I change NLS_LANG, it is located where...some file? I am new to Workflow.
Please help me. I tried a lot. Any type of help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sumir

    Appreciate any suggestion.

    Hi Manohara,
To download the file from SharePoint, I recommend to use the credential for a user who can access the file in SharePoint in the client object model.
    NetworkCredential credentials = new NetworkCredential(“username”, “pwd”, “domain”);
    ClientContext context = new ClientContext(“http://thesitecollection”);
    context.Credentials = credentials;

  • Error while connecting MYSQL Database

    Hi,
I use a 30 days trial of Crystal Reports 2008. When i try to connect with the database i always get the next error: [http://www.visiscan.nl/error.jpg]
The database is 4.1GB large and there is 10GB free space on the database.
Anybody can tell me what to do?

    Hi Tom,
As I understand the error while connecting to database is
u201CFailed to retrieve data from databaseu201D
There could be some could be multiple reasons for this.
If you are using an ODBC connection then try to check the DSN. Recreate the same and then try.
If the database is oracle check if native client is installed and try to ping from the native client to check if it responds.
When connecting to Oracle, ensure that the Service name is identical to that used in the <ORA_HOME>/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file on the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 server.
For ODBC databases, ensure that the ODBC DSN is exactly the same in the ODBC Manager as on the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 server.
Please let us know if this helps

    Hi Joe,
I have checked the ORACLE_HOME parameter. There was a differnce. Ichanged to
    /oracle/app/product/8.1.7
Now i am getting different exception. But still the standalone codeis working.
any clues why I am getting this exception. I will send the code andthe weblogic
properties file for reference if u need.Good. No, I don't need it. Now make sure the library path that the OS
    uses to find
Oracle libraries, and our driver libraries etc., is in the same order
    for the
server as for the shell that is successful on it's own. Make sure your
    Oracle
client stuff is ahead of any weblogic libraries.

The environment for the server probably doesn't have the same ORACLE_HOME
setting as your shell when you succeed in a standalone.
Also, you should be using our connection pools, and you should avoid
making DriverManager calls in any multithreaded app such as WebLogic.
