Installing JHeadstart in JDeveloper 10.1.3.4

Hi guys,
I've recently moved to a new laptop (Win7 64bit) and am trying to re-install JHeadstart (JHS10.1.3.3.81-INSTALL.zip) in a fresh install of JDeveloper 10.1.3.4 to allow me to maintain some old applications still using 10g.
I open up JDeveloper, select the Help .. Check for Updates .. Install from Local File and select the JHeadstart zip file. The summary screen shows it will install a new extension : Oracle JHeadstart version 10.1.3.3.81. I click on finish, then on Yes to "restart JDeveloper to finish installing updates".
When JDeveloper restarts however, there is no welcome message and the JHeadstart extension has not been installed (and no error message) ? I've done the same install countless times before (only on 32bit windows). I've checked file security settings on the jdev/lib and jdev/ext folders and it's set to full access for all users.
Any idea what is going wrong ? Can I perform the install manually ?
Cheers,
Brent

Hi Brent,
I don't know how to install exceptions manually. However why don't you try to install a different extension (e.g. junit integration), to see if the problem persists (is it a general problem with your jdeveloper installation / none of the extensions work??). Also try to start up the jdeveloper from the command prompt - are there any exceptions (e.g. IOException) logged on the console upon startup?
The problem might be related to file permissions, jdk version, or 64-bit win7 os (jdeveloper 10g not certified).

    You still have to choose Help - Check for updates, and then choose Install from local file and browse to the JHeadstart file you downloaded.

  • Installing JUnit in Jdeveloper 10g 10.1.3.1

    Please help me to install JUnit in JDeveloper 10g 10.1.3.1. I have searched in the site they suggested me to click on 'check for updates' menu option. But if click on check for updates option after click next on welcome page I have selected 'search update centers' radio button and then have clicked on add button which asking to enter Name and Location. But I am not understanding what enter there. I have tried by entering OTN, http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jdev/index.html. I have got any results.
    Please help awaiting for reply

    Hi,
    You don't need to add anything. If you have a functional internet connection that JDeveloper can use, then you will already be able to see Oracle's official update centers in the list (you should see "Official Oracle Extensions and Updates" as the first item).
    If you're having trouble with internet connectivity from JDeveloper, check out the Web Browser and Proxy page in Preferences and make sure any proxy settings you require to contact the internet are configured properly.
    Thanks,

  • Installing AMA in JDeveloper 9.0.2.822

    I have downloaded the Application Migration Assistant ( AMA ) from OTN site. I could not install AMA into JDeveloper through copying the JAR file into jdev_install\jdev\lib\ext. My JDeveloper version is 9.0.2.822. Could you please give me some advice about how to install AMA into JDeveloper with this version? Thanks!

    Copy the ama.jar file into the following directory, where jdev_install is
    the location of JDeveloper:
    jdev_install\jdev\lib\ext
    Restart JDeveloper.
    You should now have access to Application Migration Assistant.

  • JHeadstart 10.1.3.1 Demo not populating resource bundle

    The ApplicationResource.properties file in the demo version of the just released 10.1.3.1 running under JDeveloper 10.3.2.0 is not being populated like the previous version of JHeadstart.
    Most contents of this bundle contain entries such as
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEAPPL=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEAPPLICATIONS=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEEVENTS=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEQUEUE=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEQUEUESAVE=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULEREPOSITORY=TABLE_TITLE
    TABLE_TITLE_BUSINESSRULERULES=TABLE_TITLE
    or
    ADD_ROW=ADD_ROW
    ADVANCED_SEARCH=ADVANCED_SEARCH
    ALL_CONDITIONS_MET=ALL_CONDITIONS_MET
    ANY_CONDITION_MET=ANY_CONDITION_MET
    None of the button names have appropriate default values.
    The attibute names from the tables are fine, such as
    BUSINESSRULEAPPL_FIND_BRAPPL=Application
    BUSINESSRULEAPPL_FIND_BRRULEMOD=WITH Clause
    BUSINESSRULEAPPL_TABLE_BRAPPL=Application
    BUSINESSRULEAPPL_TABLE_BRRULEMOD=WITH Clause
    Are these results built-in to the demo version on purpose, is this a real error in the demo, or is there some mechanism I am not aware of where I can set these values appropriately?

    This JHeadstart problem does not exist on a PC, but occurs on an Apple MacBookPro laptop running the latest version OSX.
    I was running the latest version of JDeveloper 10g with latest version of JHeadstart. All extensions are installed for all users, so the extensions are (or seem to be) installed within the directory structure of JDeveloper, rather than in the user's home directory.
    I created a two-table ADF model, then generated the ViewController with JHeadstart. None of the titles or buttons contained the appropriate values. I then deleted, from JDeveloper and the disk the ViewController project.
    I then deleted JDeveloper 10g entirely, and reinstalled JDeveloper10g from the OTN site, installed JHeadstart from JDeveloper update, created an empty project named ViewController, enabled JHeadstart for that project,and generated the Jheadstart UI. Again, the problems with title and button values remained.
    I performed the same tasks on a Windows PC, using the same process. On the PC, all worked as advertized.
    Something is amiss.

    Over here I'm using JDev 902 and I think I had a similar problem (not specifically related to JHeadstart though). In short, I'm almost certain that it has something to do with the different versions of xmlparserv2.jar that are available. Or, at least.. I think that was the case over here. After I correctly used the jars listed here: http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/appservers/deploy_bc4j_to_iplanet.html#update_classpath the NoSuchMethodException disappeared.
    I must stress out that the NoSuchMethodException I had might not be related to yours, but I know for a fact that before I made sure I was using all the correct jars, I was in fact using a different (and maybe incorrect) version of the xmlparserv2.jar

  • Compiler Error: path/web/ not contained in jsp page

    Hi,
    The compiler is telling me that the /web/ path cannot be found in my *.jsp files. This project used to compile just fine before I re-installed jHeadstart and jDeveloper on my computer.
    The package compiles when I add a back-slash to the "HTML Root Directory" in the *.JPR properties area.
    The back-slash is not saved to the *.JPR file. I must set it manually every time I compile.
    What have I broken?
    I am using jHeadstart 9.0.5 and jDeveloper 10g 9.0.5.1.
    Cheers,
    Patrick Cimolini

    jHeadstart puts the *.JSP files in
    c:\jDeveloper10g\jdev\mywork\<project>\web\WEB-INF\page\*.jsp
    I can get the project to compile if I add a backslash to the Project Property:
    Common.Input Paths.HTML Root Directory.
    This contains
    C:\jDeveloper10g\jdev\mywork\KY.GOV.PWD.WORKORDER\web
    (I add the back slash after the ...\web i.e. ...\web\).
    The back slash is not saved, i.e. it disappears when are re-invoke jDeveloper.
    I am confused.
    Cheers,
    Patrick Cimolini

  • Problem in using JDeveloper 10g with JHeadstart

    I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3 and jheadstart 9.0.4.5 and I would like to test jdeveloper 10g preview with JHeadstart.
    So, I have downloaded the JDeveloper 10g to test it with my old application.

    So I try to test one of my old application with this configuration. After Jdeveloper migrated my workspace and projects and business componenet
    to the newer version, I run the application generator. It worked fine without any problem but after running the application, I got an error page showing
    that my bc4j.xcfg is not in the path.
    On the other hand, I found out that when I wanted to view my UIX pages, 2 dialog boxes appeared. The first one asked to upgrade

    I think that I should have set some setting before use JHeadstart with JDeveloper.
    Could anybody help me ?

    Alex,
    The document Sandra referred to applies to JDeveloper 10g preview (9.0.5.0). JHeadstart 9.0.4.5 will NOT work with JDeveloper 109 production (9.0.5.1).
    We plan to release a new version end of april that is compatible with 9.0.5.1. See this thread for more info: JDeveloper 10g production, status JHeadstart?

  • Jheadstart, JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork

    Hi
    We're four-developer team and we've been working with Jheadstart for some months. Now we want to work with team options that provide jdeveloper (CVS or SCM). But, we are a too much suprised with all the problems that other developers had with CVS, we read it in some jdeveloper forums (JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork and JDeveloper and CVS
    I get very worry about the problems that developers had with CVS and that at last they don't find a better solution than migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3. All the forums recomend migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3 for better support of team work, but I read (some time ago) that jdeveloper 10.1.3 still doesn't support ADF, then I assume we cannot use it with Jheadstart, Am I right? Is there a way to use Jheadstart with JDeveloper 10.1.3 Preview right now?
    What do you recomend for team work with Jheadstart?
    Thanks in advance
    Liceth

    Liceth,
    As you problably know, the JHeadstart team consists of consultants and we face the exact same problems and share the exact same frustrations as you do on an every day basis at our customer projects. It is indeed not easy to use JDeveloper in a multi-developer environment. In all fairness much of this is a given when doing file-based development, and I have seen the exact same problems in situations where other IDE's such as Eclipse etc were used. But using advanced frameworks like ADF and BC4J makes matters more complex, because the declarative way of developing these applications using drag&drop and powerful wizards make you as a developer be less 'in touch' with the file or files that are actually created and updated, and also there tend to be more files in such an architecture that are changed simultaneously by many developers at once.
    Merging is the only way out of this mess, and merge tools are not perfect, far from it. They get better and better but at some point you'll need to understand the semantics of the files that are to be merged to be able to merge them correctly, and merge tools will in all likelyhood never become that smart.
    Until they do, the only thing one can do is to tackle the problem from the other side: if merge tools dont understand the files they merge, we should take into account the weaknesses of these merge tools, and set up our files so that changes CAN be automatically merged, or in most cases at least. Indeed, JDeveloper 10.1.3 is taking good steps in this direction for notoriously tricky files such as JPR files and such. But the problem will never completely go away.
    As for using 10.1.3, well, as you said the preview does not contain ADF so JHeadstart will never run on it. We are developing JHeadstart 10.1.3 that will run on the production version of JDeveloper 10.1.3, but it will be a long time before that release will see the light. And although JDeveloper 10.1.3 is a kick-ass IDE (imho), it will not magically solve all multi-user issues. It will just be a bit more bearable.
    Is there ever a real solution for it? I don't know. I have worked intensively with the Oracle Designer product before I switched to Java, and that tool, which uses a database rather than files to store its information, was almost perfect when dealing with multi-user development. It could do so because the level at which conflicts occur is VERY finegrained (so not at 'code line' level but sometimes as far as 'individual properties in a property inspector' level), plus the advantages of instantaneous locking in the database when modifying something. And, thinking of it, it could do so because it dealt with 'structured objects' rather than files, thereby having some 'semantic' information about the data. I have this feeling we can only 'get it right' if we will treat, for instance, a Java file not as a collection of lines of code, but of a structured object tree with members, constructors, methods, parameters etc. etc., and store it as such, instead of storing it as a flat OS file.
    Just ranting here (this really should be a personal BLOG entry rather than a forum post, but oh well). As you can tell, its a subject that is very close to every developer's heart.
    Kind regards,
    Peter Ebell

  • How to install JDeveloper with GeoRaptor

    Hi,
    Until now I'm using SqlDeveloper with Georaptor. A fine combination. Specially for Pl/Sql-development.
    I want to explore JDeveloper and Spatial-data, for Web J2EE-development.
    Questions:
    Can Georaptor be combined with JDeveloper (and how)?
    JDeveloper has an OC4J pre-installed, as Mapviewer (demos) has too. How to combine these two OC4J-isntallations to one OC4J-installation?
    Any reaction will be appreciated.
    Leo

    Hi, GeoRaptor is extension of Oracle SQL Developer(http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html).
    And SQL Developer is not part of JDeveloper. I think it is not possible to install GeoRaptor to JDeveloper.
