Installing Leopard on a new HD on my MacPro tonight need advice; HELP!

I am installing Leopard tonight on a new WD 400GB HD on my Mac Pro. I also have Tiger on a different HD on my MacPro.. which I will keep untill I am sure Leopard is running properly.
I have a few basic Questions on how I should go about the installation:
1. Should I remove the jumper ( if it has one installed) that came with the new Western Digital 400GB SATA II HD drive even though it will be a master.. I had heard that SATA II HD's didn't need jumper settings on a MacPro...
2. Before I install Leopard should I format the drive in Tiger for HFS+ Journaled? or will the Leopard install program do that for me?
3. To start do I just put the CD in and shut down and restart the MacPro and then point the Lepoard DVD at the new drive ? (which I will name Leopard)
On boot after installation is it the command or option key that I press on boot to select between starting in Tiger or Leopard?
Thanks...

You shouldn't have a problem. There's no license checking by the Leopard install

  • Can not install leopard on a new hard drive

My hard drive on MACBook Pro crashed, swap it with the same SATA 2.5" 160GB hard drive from my PC.
Booted with the leopard DVD holding the option (Alt) key, I get two choices to boot from "Windows" hard drive ==even thou it is not Windows, it originally has Linux Ubuntu installed on it== and the other choice "Mac OS X Install DVD" I select to install the Mac OS, assuming I will be able to access the Disk utility and format the new HD, the DVD start spinning Apple Logo appear for two minutes, then it switch to a blue screen where it hang forever, and the DVD stop spinning.
Any idea how to install leopard on the new HD

Just get a new hard drive and if you have a Intel Mac, OS X 10.6 disk, it's much better than 10.5, faster too.

  • Installing Leopard on a new HD?

You guys are smart, what should I do?
I have purchased 10.5, a larger HD, and an SATA enclosure for my old HD. My MacBook has a pathetic 60G HD now and she is FULL. How can I pull the info off my old HD easily?
    My plan now...
    1. Install new HD
    2. Clean install of 10.5
    3. Use SATA enclosure for old HD and transfer.
Will this allow me to keep my programs (word, QT pro, and a few others) or will I have to re-buy them?
Is there a better way? Should I use another macbook (install the old HD in another mac) to transfer my info using the transfer option when setting up the OS?
What is the easiest, nay, the BEST way to accomplish what I want to do (keep programs.... Files and music are backed up)

No best way, but this is what I'd do. Mount new HD into the enclosure, use something like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, Disk Utility, an put a bootable backup/clone onto the new HD. Boot wtih the backup/clone and ensure it works and looks exactly like the original. Update both to 10.4.11 and any other updates, repair permissions, swap the HDs, boot with the Leopard install disk, and install Leopard on either one of them. Ensure that it works as advertised, apply any updates, repair permissions, etc. Run it for a least a couple of weeks. If everything checks out make a bootable backup/clone of Leopard and continue.

Not if you have a slow internet connection. While I was on DSL it took me over 3 hours to reinstall.
Oh yeah, forgot about that, I would choose to get a faster internet connection before  I got a new computer so I rarely think that way, thanks.
Well honestly my internet was fast enough for me unit I got a MBP that you had to use the internet to reinstall the OS. Because it didn't come with a $.32 DVD disc.
I have a 50mbps connection, kinda skews my viewpoint regarding internet speed.

  • If I install Leopard onto my new mac, will it mess up my computer?

I have several programs and games that do not have updates and I would like to use them. They are powerpc applications. If I were to install Leopard what would happen? Is there a way to run dual operating systems?

    You have Mavericks... Correct  ?
If so... Power PC applications are Not Supported.

  • Installing Leopard on a New Hard Drive

I was told (at my local Apple store) that my hard drive was bad. So, I replaced the old one with a new 500 gig Sata drive, but I can't boot up from my Leopard install disc to put the OS back on my G5. If I hold either the C key, or the Option key down while booting, I get to the gray screen, then my Mac shuts off. What do I need to do? Thanks, Karen

I don't know what happened, but on G5s, even swapping hard drives, unless you reset nvram (or zap pram/nvram maybe) the system doesn't really recognize the new drive as it should, the device tree still thinks the old drive is there. Resetting nvram (best done in Open Firmware) refreshes the device tree.
That is also true when changing RAM, even if just moving DIMMs to other slots.
So first thing I would do is boot into Open Firmware (command option o f) and type
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
Then use Option key (or C to boot from Leopard DVD).
If that doesn't work, do you still have your original install disks and the one with Apple Hardware Test? to boot off AHT CD use the Option key and let it run an extended test.

    Hello everybody,
I just wanted to install Photoshop CS5 on my Windows 8.1 64bit machine, which also happenes to be a new machine. The serial number provided in my Adobe account is not accepted by the installer! The information I could gather from the "support" area points me to a problem which is caused by not properly uninstalling the previous install, am I right? I did not know this. Also, I am no native speaker and feel a little lost on this.
Please help, I need to use my copy of PS CS5, thanks!

  • Brand new to the Mac World and NEED SOME HELP with startup disk issues

Hello everyone. I am a new Mac user and I purchased my mac on ebay. It's an iMac that came with tiger 10.4.11. I wanted to get a fresh start on the computer, since the person who had it before me did not erase all of his stuff. I didn't know what to do so I got a startup disk/install disk off ebay also. When I go to install it says "software cannot be installed on this computer." Before I bought the software, I had called the apple store and they said it should be fine to buy any install software to put on the computer. If I could get any help it would be appreciated. I had read previous threads that I should hold down c when I start up (didn't work) or that I should select archive or erase and install (I never got these options when I went to install).

A warm welcome to the Discussions!
What iMac is it? I only ask as the Retail Tiger CD/DVDs don't work on IntelMacs, only PPC, (G3, G4, G5 Macs).
Sorry what you were told by the Apple Store, but if it's a Gray CD/DVD then it is Machine specific as Neil stated.
Sooo, what exact iMac is it, and what does it say on the CD/DVD?

No, it doesn't have claim code. Only printers with ePrint enable/ready have claim codes.

  • New to the iPad world. Need PDF help!

I have some work related ebooks online that come up on the web page as a PDF. I don't see where I can save the PDF so I can view it later offline, like on a PC. I need to be able to review them when on an airplane or when Internet is not available. Suggestions?

In order to save content on the iPad you need an app that supports that file type - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app.
Apps that support PDFs include Apple's iBooks app and the Adobe Reader app. When you have a pdf app installed on your iPad you should be able to tap on the open PDFs in Safari and you should get an 'open in' option which will allow you to save it to your app.

    Hi
When I install the trial version, the installation aborts with error 601.

    2. Then run Uninstall - System/Standalone Engine/Optional Standadlon ......

    3. Check if there are any files located in
         \Program Files\sapinst_instdir     -
         delete this directory
         \Documents and Settins\{user}\Local settings\Temp    -
       delete any references to SAP
The above steps helped me to reinstall the Trial software.
Make sure that the system for the install meet the following requirements:
u2022     Operating System: Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista
u2022     Hostname must not exceed 13 characters
    u2022     NTFS-File system
u2022     Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Firefox 1.0 or higher
u2022     At least 1 GB RAM (2-4 GB recommended)
u2022     Pagefile size according to your RAM settings.
u2022     Intel Pentium III/1.1 GHz or higher (or compatible)
u2022     30 GB hard disk space temporary during installation - 24 GB permanent
The actual hard disk space required is more than 32GB.  It is best to install the SAP directory on a separate drive if possible. Othewise you have to make sure that the drive where you install SAP has sufficient space for you system and the SAP install.
    u2022     High-resolution monitor (1024x768 or higher, 256 colors)
u2022     Make sure that no other SAP system is installed on your computer
u2022     The SAP system requires several ports for communication services. Therefore the file %WINDIR%\system32\drivers\etc\services must not include an entry for the ports 3200, 3600, 3900 and 8000. A possible entry can be excluded by using the hash symbol (#). (Note: The entry sapmsNSP 3600 for dialog instances may not exist, as it is set to 0 in Trial versions).
u2022     If no DHCP server is available on your network (which dynamically determines the IP address) or your computer is not connected to any network, you need to install the virtual interface adapter MS Loopback Adapter.
    My system configuration:
    Virutal Machine
       Windows Server 2003
       1.7GB RAM
       20GB System Drive
40GB Data drive (SAP installed here)
MS Loopback Adapter with address 10.10.0.10 (entry in hosts file 10.10.0.10             localhost)

  • New to BC and in desperate need of help setting up my online store!

So, I'm nearing the tear-your-hair-out stage of attempting to set up an online store.
I'm brand new to BC, and the only reason we're trying it out is because Adobe claims the integration for e-commerce is so easy.  Ahem.  I created a Muse website for a client ( http://themenschonabench.businesscatalyst.com/index.html ).  For the time being, I just want to offer ONE item to be purchased through the 'cart' page.  Can anyone give me easy to follow instructions on how to go about this?  I've watched a million tutorials and haven't found one that SIMPLY explains how to link one product to a template I've already established in Muse.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

    Yeah, Muse.
Muse is a basic site creator that steps you into the web world. For that it is really good and quite nice useability. But that is as far as it goes for now, It does not support more complex website features such as the eCommerce directly.
You need to have a beter understanding of html, css and javascript to utliise all of BC eCommerce properly, but without that knowledge if you just develop it in the BC Admin you can get something produced.
