Is there any project like wubi that install linux from windows directly in a partition?

You have one option here - don't use KDE but something lightweight, which doesn't pull 100s of MBs od dependencies, like *box, tiling manager...
And that stuff with the command line - I see it as a necessary purgatory after using win-do$

Resources have been modified while installing application from windows machine?
Hi,
I am trying to install application from windows machine, but it gives me reources have been modified everytime. Can someone let me know how to avoid this problem?
I have tried the iTuneswork without extension way but still I am getting the same error. I really dont understand what this error is about. It would be really nice of someone to guide me on this.
The OS version on the device is OS 3.0.1 and itunes version on windows is 9.0.2.
Please let me know what this issue is about.

Its strange that no one turned with any answers. Anyhow, the issue has mostly been resolved. There are some file names which were getting modified in windows and not in MAC system.
Just in case anyone facing the same issue please check the file name of the resources you added.

What is your definition of a "Linux for Windows" ?
There is Linux like Ubuntu which can be installed on a Mac

How to install Linux from a distro instead of booting a live cd?
Suppose you have Arch Linux installed in sda and you want to install a new copy in sdc, can you do it from your distro instead of booting with the installation cd?
Here's my sdc (75 GB):
/dev/sdc1 ntfs 100 MB
/dev/sdc2 ntfs 40 GB
those partitions are used by Windows 7, so there's another 35 GB for Linux.
Now here's the the problem: this latest Arch Linux install media is kinda complicated because it does not provide the AIF anymore. Also, the installation method differs a little from the old ones. Until 2011.08.19 I would partition the remaining space like this:
/dev/sdc3 extended 35 GB
/dev/sdc5 ext2 100 MB /boot
/dev/sdc6 swap 1 GB swap
/dev/sdc7 ext4 15 GB /
/dev/sdc8 ext4 19 GB /home
However this guide http://ebalaskas.gr/wiki/archlinux/netinstall shows a different (suposedly recommended) partition table for the new method.
So,
1) Is it possible to install Arch Linux from an already installed distro, including GRUB2?
2) Is it possible to use the partiton table style I provided?
And how to do it of course.

Note that it says it is out of date because of pacman. Really all you need to know is that pacman uses signed packages now, so it is now necessary to run the pacman-key stuff. Or set SigLevel = Never in pacman.conf
Edit: IMHO the first method is preferred because it more closely resembles a regular install. Ergo, you will be able to semi follow the beginners guide for config and such.

Tnsping doesnt work. cant connect to oracle on linux from windows client
Installed Oracle 11g on Linux VM. Tried connecting from Tora/SqlDeveloper from Windows machine, but fails. TNSPING fails. PING works fine. Any idea how to resolve below issue?

It is pointless, and just adds to the confusion, to name your listener anything other than the default name of LISTENER

Rman of database under Linux from Windows server
Dear colleagues! I need some help.
I have Oracle database 10.2.0.1, which works under Linux CentOS. I've just set up rman, to backup this database to local linux partition. Now, i want to adjust rman, so it starts from Windows 2003 ( i've already install Oracle 10.2.0.1 client for Wondows 32-bit) server to backup this database to local Windows folder.Could you please answer, is it possible at all?
When i try to perform rman from Windows manually i got this errors:

Additional information: 11. You can run the backup from windows server 2003 which take the RMAN backup of your linux server. But this backup can only stored into your linux server.

VMWare on this not certified , correct?You can install VMWare on CentOS, then install a supported OS which is certified with Oracle Apps 11i/R12.

Accessing OSB intalled in Linux from Windows

I am new to OSB. I have a Linux server with me in which i have installed Oracle SOA Suite 11g . The architecture is a Admin server and 3 managed server. The managed servers are soa_server,bam_server and osb_server. Now after installation of OSB i need to access the samples and the console from windows (my working machine). How to do that. I have downloaded OEPE helios installer from oracle site, but have no idea how to connect to server through eclipse. Could some one help me. Please.if you don't need the osb plugin and just want connect the server from your eclipse you need to get the ip-address from the linux box (and edit your hostfile so you can use the hostname of it

Cannot connect properly to Oracle on Linux from Windows

I’ve got 2 virtual machines running on my Mac:
- Centos 5.4 with Oracle 11gR2
- Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10gR2
From Linux box I have access to Oracle database on Windows box (both directly and via a database link), however from Windows I have problems accessing the oracle database on the Linux box.
From Windows, if I try to set up a connection using Oracle’s SQL Developer using connection type “Basic”, I get “IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection”. When I use “TNS”, then it works.
From the linux box it all works fine as the “oracle” user, but when I log on as another user (in this case “informatica”) it doesn’t work properly any more.
To sketch what both environments look like.

What’s noticeable is that port 1521 seems solely assigned to the localhost IP-address, 127.0.0.1.
Another thing I noticed is that from a different user in Linux, so not “oracle”, using SQL Developer I cannot access the local Oracle database via TNS. When choosing TNS the dropdown box for “Network Alias” – which normally is populated with entries from TNSNAMES.ORA – is completely empty. On a “users and groups” level I basically assigned all the groups the oracle user is member of, to the other user (called informatica).
And to make it even more interesting, at first it worked using “Basic” (in SQL Developer), but since implementing the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, it doesn’t work at all !!!
Trying it via SQLPLUS as the “informatica” doesn’t work either:

I’ve assigned the “dba” group to “informatica”, or rather, I have assigned all groups to the “informatica” user as the “oracle” user has.
Needless to say I am no Linux expert, rather a quite inexperienced Linux-user.
So bottom line, the situation I’d like to be able to create is the following:
• Linux Oracle DB accessible from “informatica” (or any other) user on Linux, via both TNS and java-based
• Linux Oracle DB accessible from remote machine (running Windows 2003 server) via both TNS and java-based
• And for Informatica to work properly, it says it needs the TNS_ADMIN environment variable, so the “informatica” user must have full Oracle connectivity with TNS_ADMIN in place.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure whether I can use it though, since the application using the oracle database (i.e. Informatica ILM 5.3.2) appears to have a specific need for TNS.
I thought I had a solution (not the prettiest for sure) by just copying TNSNAMES.ORA to an accessible location, change ownership to "informatica" user, have TNS_ADMIN point to it, and Bob should be my uncle. Well... he isn't!
In SQL Developer when I choose TNS as connection type, the drop down box is STILL empty.....aaaaahhhh!!!!!
I was advised to play around with primary groups, so I tried oinstall and dba as primary groups for informatica user, all to no avail.
And I can't even test it with SQLPLUS because I don't have access to it as "informatica".
Who knows what the exact reason for that is... I know I'm a far cry from an experienced linux user, but I assumed that having the Oracle Home bin directory in PATH, and assigning the oinstall group to informatica user, would ensure access to to any executable in there. Well... NOT!!!

How run live/install linux from usb/sd?
Hi there, im trying to run in live mode a linux distro (e.g. Backtrack or Ubuntu) from usb key but im experiencing issuess...
i tried Uinetboot usb creator and even partitioning the removable drive in hfs and ext4 with rEfit installed in the first one and the linux image in the latter but i always see something like "no bootable disk"...
which is the best way to do it?
im using a macbook air 2012 with 4gigs

And on PC booting Windows from a USB DVD to do the install is usually a piece of cake, sometimes you just need to specify that USB in the BIOS boot order and sometimes select via F12 (or another Fkey) and that is it.
What you have here seems to be everything and everyone is excluded unless there is a mac-model device ID string that specifies yes. An unnecessary hurdle. -
Problem porting webapp to Linux from Windows
Hello,
I'm porting a Tomcat web app from a Windows dev environment to a Linux production environment. For i/o, file references were made "portable" using, for example, this sort of declaration:
File file = System.getProperty("user.dir")+File.separator+"..[string].."+File.separator....etc.
I made this work on Windows, but it breaks on Linux because "user.dir" is not the same on the two OS's under circumstances that are otherwise the same.
It appears that on Windows, based on the default Tomcat startup script, user.dir is fixed to the directory where the app (Catalina) was started. The Windows default startup command hardwires this to the path where Tomcat is installed, while in Linux user.dir move to the directory of the class file containing the reference to the file I want.
Many people must have dealt with this in the past, but darned if I can find a solution on line. What's the cleanest way to reconcile this, work with the startup scripts or the source code?

SteveThere is only 1 problem I think I read about using
this approach. When you make a war of your webapp, the
getRealPath("/") can return null on some webservers,
but since I dont use war's I have no problem with thatIt's early days for me, so I expanded the WAR on the production server for now, but I probably always will because the webapp writes files into a sub-directory under WEB-INF (files I want only my servlets to get at). As I understand it, you can either use a WAR or have a full expanded directory structure, but not both.
On another point, I hadn't mentioned that I have a bean in session scope that accesses a properties file. In fact, that's where I first discovered the problem. So using your approach, I'm changing some JSP and the bean to be able to pass the ServletContext to it. -
Installing Printers from Windows 2008 R2 printer server using the Cname
Am having issues installing printers on workstations from the windows 2008 R2 print server using the DNS names. the servername and Full qualified Name works fine.
l have tweaked the Registry and Disabled the StrictNameChecking but still getting an error. this is the message am getting...

I think I solved this yesterday. We got 1 printserver, with an alias, which we had this problem to connect to. I noticed that there is a difference between x86 and 64bits system entries in the registry...
When you are having a 64bit system, you must use REG_QWORD instead of REG_DWORD, REG_DWORD is only to be used in x86 system! See below.

Then please install the client and configure it, after that, you can use sqlplus to connect the DB on Linux. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15662/toc.htm for details.
Also, you can use ssh or telnet to connect to the linux from windows, and run the sqlplus command on the linux server directly.

I have Toshiba L20-148 and I have the Toshiba Product Recovery DVD and I have the Ubuntu DVD
I'm only able to install Linux or the Windows XP Pro that i have with the recovery DVD
and the only way i know to install them both together is by installing linux then windows... but whenever i try to install windows usin' the data recovery it just formats the whole HDD and install windows only...

The boot manger can be set manually in the Windows system properties.
Please go to the control panel and select system
Then select the Advanced tab
In the advanced tab please select the option Settings in the Startup and recovery area.
A new window should open and you should use edit button in the system startup area.
You should see something like that:
