Installing Logic on a PT drive - help needed

My first post here, hello everyone.
I am having problems getting Logic 7.1 to work on my G5 Dual 2Ghz. I have Pro Tools HD TDM 7.1cs4 working OK, and wanted to test Logic out (with CoreAudio, not with TDM). Basically when I load Logic, it scans Audio Units slowly (but with several; "the application auval unexpectedly quit after it reopened" messages to which I press "Reopen"), then opens with the usual splash screen, then a dialogue box comes up saying "No Memory for Instrument". Pressing "Abort" brings up this screen many times before Logic opens, but only shows an automation tracklist which cannot be recorded to.
I have Logic 6.4.3 installed in the apps folder (wondering if this is a problem) but this does not open (as I think it won't work on 10.4), But when I installed Logic 7.0 from the DVD, it did not erase Logic 6. Sorry, this is may be pretty basic stuff but I'm not that familiar with Logic's quirks as I haven't used it on a G5 at all.
From reading other posts I sort of gather that Logic 7.1 and PT 7.1 can co-exist on the same G5 partition so long as they are not used together.
I should also explain that Logic 7.0 doesn't seem to want to even load; so I dragged a copy of 7.1.1 which I've used on my laptop, onto my G5 drive - maybe this is the wrong approach...!

Hopefully you installed PT first. Part of the problem may be 7.2 (Logic). That is the version for your PT version-though how much of an effect that has on digi as CA is greyer. Try first running Logic as CA using built in audio-after that you shouldn't have to continue with AUVal. If you then get past AUVal try configuring the digihw as CA and then enabling it in Logic. IF it is 7.2 dependant (which with CA it shouldn't be under normal circumstances) that's the answer. But more likely narrowing it down and eliminating suspects is the way to go. You can also try CA digihw with other audio apps and see if you have any similar problems.

You don't really need it: it's Apple recommendation. The less ram you have, the more disk space you need. My PowerBook came with 600 MB of ram and a 20 GB 5400 rpm drive. I took me some time to find out that swap files silently grew in the background, recessed in an invisible system folder, namely /private/var/vm/ and were slowly eating up my disk space.
Macromat, maker of the famous TechTool, advise sparing 4 GB of free space minimum, but quickly adds that the more you spare, the smoother the operating system runs.

Installing Logic Pro 8 / System Drive or Audio Drive

Hi,
I've just bought a new imac (2.4 GHz / 2GB) & Logic Pro 8, I'm going to buy a faster drive for recording audio but should i also install logic to the faster audio drive? or maybe just the extra content (sampled instruments) & keep the application on the standard system drive?

Personally I do have samples on the same drive as my audio but I've seen this is an area of contention. I think the consensus is that if you have both audio and sampled instruments (also audio) running off the same drive, it won't be as quick as running one or the other off a separate drive. That may be true but it depends on the speeds of both drives etc. I tend to keep all media or content that will stream on a drive other than the system drive (except things that refuse to install elsewhere) and I've had good performance so far.

Want to use Logic 8 Pro for Podcasting, help needed

I have a few problems. I just switched over to Logic after using ProTools for 4 years so I'm a newbie. I'm about to start a podcast soon and I want to use Logic 8 Pro to do so. Is there a book that someone can recommend me for getting familiar with Logic?
Here are the things I need to get done:
I have a mixer and I need to know how to record the sounds playing through my computer to end up in Logic. I basically want to be able to capture the audio playing on my computer and have that be on the podcast. How do I do this?
Secondly, I'm confused about what Input 1 and Input 2 are. What is the difference?
I'd appreciate anyone who could IM me to help me further with Logic if I have a quick question or anything. My AIM screen name is DirtyVibes. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you are asking here. If you want to record the whole output of your computer, I recommend using a virtual audio driver like Soundflower or Jack.
Secondly, I'm confused about what Input 1 and Input 2 are. What is the difference?
Input 1 is the input marked "1" on your audio interface (or the left channel on a stereo pair).
Input 2 is the input marked "2".
If your audio interface has more than 2 inputs, they will all show up, so you can record different inputs to different tracks if required.
You might be better off using Garageband to record your podcasts, it's simpler and has dedicated podcast functions (like adding iTunes artwork and so on).

JDBC Driver (HELP NEEDED URGENTLY)

Hi, I'm a student who has a project to be done on java.
I would like to use access or some other db tt is plafform independence.
However, I do not know of such a dbms system. Can someone help me by telling me with access can be used on other plafform or there is a better dbms out there?
Also , is there any way the client can just do installation without using jdbc to odbc bridge as the installion of the application should be easy and do not require the client to do install addition stuff or trouble themselve over the installtion of the software. Thanks for the tip man. The second problem i have is that i m trying to create a program that run on stand alone PC . It must be able to access a database. However, using the odbc bridge means that it is not plafform indepence while is one of the aim i have for the program. Is it possible to find a driver that dont need to the odbc and can run on standalone PC without a server between there?

Driver Help Needed

Hey guys, I did a lot of reading and tried many things before actually seeking for help. Long story short I re-installed Windows XP Home edition on an old computer of mine, now that I have reformatted, I have windows XP home edition installed but I can't get any drivers that I need because I'm unable to get on the internet. The reason being is that I don't have the driver for my Network Adapter.
What I have is:

Model name: MS 7125 ver 1
Model Number: K8N Neo 4
I have searched and searched and I found a lot of people also had this problem but I can't find my resolution. I am guessing that it is the driver that I need.
Internet was working fine prior to formatting, I have checked My Computer-Properties- Device Manager... and what has the yellow "?" are:
-Multimedia Controller
-Multimedia Controller
-Other PCI Bridge Device
-PCI Memory Controller
-SM Bus Controller
-Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
My ethernet chord lights up once plugged into the computer but that's it.
If anyone knows of where I could find a driver for it that would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info I can try to find it out, I'm on a laptop on my wireless now.

HELP I am missing 340 gig's!! "hard drive help needed"

ok so i had a 160gig hardrive in my macbook pro. i bought a new 500gig for it. i used Drive Genius 2 to copy the old hard drive to the new one. when i installed the new one everything works great except it only see's the 160 gig not 500? so my question is how can i make my computer recognize the whole hard drive?

Start over by first prepping your new drive as follows:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from theUtilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Connect your old drive that you have installed in an external enclosure and boot from it by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION button until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon for the external drive and click on the downward pointing arrow button. Now clone back to your new drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal drive.
Source means the external startup drive.

Okay after much digging , I have found out what parts of Logic Studio 9 can & cannot be installed on an external Drive and here's how I did it:

Then after everything is installed:
Library>Application Support>Logic>EXS Factory Samples
Dragged to the Ext. HD got 3 gigs out of it
Then Library>Application Support>GarageBand>Instrument Library>Sampler>Sampler Files (NOT SAMPLER INSTRUMENTS !)
That scored me another 12GB
Installing that way allows approx 38GB of Logic on an Ext. HD

If you want, you can install your OS on the external drive and boot up from that by setting the external drive as startup in the system preferences. Then you can install ALL of logic on it instead of using the internal at all. I've been set up this way for years.

How to install Windows on W2100z...help needed

Can anyone plz tell me about how to install windows on W2100z.I tried in lot of ways but to no avail.First of all i tried win xp 32 and 64 bit cds but no success.Then i created the winxp 64 cd by runing the xp_reburn script from supplement cd 2.4 but same problem of "Setup didnot find any harddrives attached to your system" appears.Then i attached a floppy drive and tried floppy disk containing drivers of Scsi from supplement cd and after pressing F6 i provided the floppy,it shows the menu containing four driver names ,i tried each one of them but same old problem comes later in the setup.
Can anyone help me in this regard ?

Problem installing SD Firmware v2.0. Help needed!

I installed the firmware through the Apple Software Update tool and upon restarting my computer got stuck.
I had just rebooted the computer, after installing the QT 7.1.1 update. I re-ran the SW, it popped the Firmware update, I clicked install, it downloaded and asked for a reboot. I clicked yes, it powered down, then up, I heard the chime, and saw the white screen with the apple and the spinning thingy at the bottom -- the usual. Then it switched to a light blue screen, completely blank, and it's been there for 15 min.
Could this be because of peripherals connected to the system? I have the following devices connected to the computer: (1) an external fireware drive plugged in, which has a bootable clone of my old Panther system (now I run Tiger), but it would only boot from there if I hold the Option key and select it. (2) an external monitor connected to my miniDV port. (3) a USB mouse. (4) an Ethernet cable.
In the meantime I unplugged the monitor, and the ethernet. The rest is still plugged in.
I could use any help or comments! The machine is still stuck with the light blue screen. Should I hold the power button to power it down and unplug the external firewire drive? Thanks!

Transferring iTunes Library to an external hard drive - help needed

I recently moved my iTunes library (aka all of my 32 GB of music) onto an external hard drive so as to save space on my laptop, but I messed up somehow and now I can't add songs to my iPhone. The chain of events went something like this:
1. I copied my iTunes library onto my external hard drive.
2. I changed my iTunes library location (in the itunes settings) to it's new spot on the external.
3. I deleted the songs off my laptop.
This worked fine at first, but then I think I opened iTunes with my external NOT connected and I got a blank library. I plugged in my external but my itunes was still blank. Then I decided I'll just add everything back to my itunes library. I did that, but I lost all my playlists and whatnot, but I didn't really care - all my music was there.
Now I just tried to add new music to my iPhone and it won't let me. When I try to turn manual music management it gives me an error saying "this iPhone is synced with another itunes library".
Is there some way I can retrieve my original itunes library from before I did all this stuff? Help much appreciated.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to choose a library, then select the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Why it is not possible to install flash player to Imac (Yosemite V. 10.10.2) I have tried many things but nothing is working. I have even deleted the existing flash player which didn't work.

This morning we resolved a problem that prevented Flash Player installations from completing for some of our Macintosh users.
If you encountered this problem, please delete any previously downloaded Flash Player installer and either:
1.) Download the installer again from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
2.) Download the stand-alone installer from http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/latest/help/install_flash_player_osx.dmg

Driver help neede

I bought a comp from alienware a few months back and it came with a Audigy 2 ZS pre-installed. I want to update my drivers but I don't have li've update and I've heard that the drivers on this site won't work due to the fact that it came pre-installed.
Can anyone tell me if I can use the drivers on this site, and how to uninstall the old ones and install the new ones? Or, if I can't use the ones on this site, where to get new ones that will work. Thanks VERY much for any help.Message Edited by MPEG on 07-5-2005 02:7 PM

Is the card a retail version, if it is not you cannot update from this site. If its a Dell PC its not a retail version.

I have OTM installation guide E38416-04 but I am little confused with it as it gives a different combination example. But it talks about about installing everything in the same instance on VM and many things differ. And also it doesnt talk about FTI.

I'VE STARTED AFRESH ON MY C DRIVE - HELP NEEDED WITH ARTWORK ETC

I deleted the itunes from my external hard drive and am now downloading it from this site to my computers c drive, all of my 13,000 songs are on my harddrive and all of the albums artwork are in a folder on the c drive - not sure how.
I want to reload all of the songs into the nue itunes but keep them on the D drive and also apply all the artwork- how is the best way to go abou this?

Right, I'm loading the songs back into my new down loaded itunes by dragging and dropping from my H:drive (external hard drive) and the artwork is being loaded as well although thats all on my C: drive, I have changed the location of the songs in the itunes - so far so good, am I right in assuming then that I should be okay for now then, the music is all on the H: drive but the itunes is on my C: drive??
