Installing Logic Studio (Academic) over Logic Pro 8 (Academic)

Hello -
I just purchased Logic Studio (9?) and have 8 on my computer. Will the install overwrite the significant files, or should I delete 8 before I install? Is there a doc somewhere which indicates where the files that aren't relevant to the new release (but were to 8) are so I can do some housekeeping?
Thanks!

To continue to use Applications that require Rosetta in Lion (such as Logic Studio 8), consider installing Snow Leopard (and Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion:

your new lion-machine should have quicktime 7, too. if it doesn't, and if it doesn't show up after you migrated your stuff from you old machine you can always reinstall it from the logic dvd's, it's part of logic. my recommendation is to always use quicktime 7, since it's got many features that are absent in quicktime x. quicktime x is nothing but a polished video player. in quicktime 7 (pro, comes with logic) you can even do edits and paste your music onto video files. i use it all the time, especially since logic 64bit doesn't export to video anymore.

  • Logic Studio on new Macbook pro retina

    Hi,
after 6 years my macbook "died" ... :-( I am thinking about buying a new macbook pro retina..
My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!
    Philipp

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • Secondhand Logic Studio 8 with Logic Pro 7 keycard?

    Hello
Ive been offered a second hand full copy of Logic Studio 8 (not the upgrade) but i'm guessing there wont be a serial key with it because it's a used copy.
So i was wondering if anyone knows if i can used my old Logic Pro 7 Keycard with it?
I know it would work with the upgrade version but will it work with the full version of Logic Studio 8?
    Many thanks
    Tom

That makes perfect sense, i'll have a word with him at see if he can transfer the ownership.
    Many thanks

  • Just paid $749AU for logic studio. Now logic 9 is $200. store credit? refund?

If I bought Logic Studio 3 weeks ago for $749.00,  Do you think I could take it back and buy the 'on its own version of logic 9' ,for the now price of $199.00? I would think anyone in my shoes would find this extremely frustrating. And I think even a store credit will do nicely as I plan to buy a new macbook pro in 2 weeks from the same mac store!(hopefully not on the cusp of a massive price drop)
Does anyone think I would be able to change it or anything? I cant imagine a worse day to have bought logic 9.
I asked them at the time if they had logic on its own and they didnt.Suggestions??

ahaaaa ! garageband is hardly a substitute dude. . u mmight like it, But I run a professional studio for musicians.
& I can use logic (& ableton) quite alright on a macbook pro 17'' (or any decent mac for that matter)
This post was about the 'price' & refund of a purchase, Not the prospect of what I should or shouldnt use..
I'm not sure my clients would be too happy about hiring a studio with garageband on it...
& also, this post is old as u can see on the date.
But thax 4 ur (cough cough) 'suggestion'...
btw, I do realise this was posted int he wrong forum (clearly) ;-)
    take care

  • Logic Studio vs. Logic Express

Has Apple posted a chart comparing Logic Studio (or Logic 8) and Logic Express 8? I own Logic Express 7 and will have to make an upgrade choice. Of course, I want to step up to the big system but I'd like to see some kind feature-by-feature comparison (e.g., the Web site says that Logic 8 comes with 18,000 Apple Loops, Logic Express 8 with "thousands"; so would that be eighteen "thousands," or, I dunno, three?) before deciding to part with the extra $200, especially since Soundtrack Pro really does nothing that I need.
Yeah, I'm cheap. Deal with it. (->)
    Cheers.

  • Is Logic Studio the replacement of Pro?

Ok, I noticed that Logic Pro 8 doesn't appear in the store, but when you search for it, studio comes up. Has studio replaced pro? Cause I'm really thinking to get it, but I don't want to if Studio is just an in-between of express and pro. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can remember making the request to have Logic Pro and STP Pro bundled in a 'Studio' ap akin to Final Cut Studio and having my thread locked!
Just cause they lock ya' doesn't mean they don't love ya'!

  • SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR LOGIC STUDIO-upgrade from LOGIC PRO 7

I have been using LOGIC PRO 7 on my G5 1.8ghz Power PC G5 with 768 MB DDR SDRAM with no problems. I'd LOVE to upgrade to the new 8. I notice it said minimum req is 1.25ghz and 1gig of ram.
Will I be able to run this on my current system for basic recording, etc. Do I REALLY need the 1.25 and 1 gig of ram? If i'm doing no more than 8 tracks live at a time-live instruments?

Hi Mikey, First off they mean a G4 1.25 or faster. Your G5 1.8 should be fine. Second, the 768MB of RAM will be an issue. Fortunately RAM for your machine isn't that expensive. If I were you I'd load up with as much as you can. It will help you in all aspects of your computing, not just Logic. Check out the link below for some options.

  • I have just bought Logic studio for my macbook pro, do i need to buy a midi keyboard?

Bascily just wondering if this would be essentail to the purchase i have just made, if not it's no bother. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)"  can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

  • No sound--- Logic  Studio 9.0.2  Pro tools 8.0.1 and apogee DA and AD 16x

I can't get sound out of Digi core audio manager---I can hear it through speaker in computer if I select that option, but I can't get sound from apogees. Spoke with apple and digidesign, ---I can't get it to work. Pro tools works fine---When I look at Digi core audio window the hardware settings window is grey and not accessible. I think I need a window like the I/O window on PT--Does anyone have a remedy or any ideas, or has anyone experienced this-----Mac Pro 2.8 quad intel w 8 gig ram

    Hi,
the Digidesign CoreAudio driver supports only the first 8 I/O of your first (main) interface.
You will be able to open the "Digidesign Hardware Setup" from within the "Digidesign CoreAudio Manager", if no application is up and running that is using this CoreAudio driver.

  • I can't install creative studio 5 on macbook pro, OSX 10.8.2

the adobe installer is giving me an error of failed to initialize. i have tried the assistant but it didnt help either. the macbook is new, i have just opened it today and run all software updates. i tried to run the setup on another macbook with the same configuration and it is working. any ideas what is the specific case with the current macbook? it looks like it is not due to corruption of the download file, since otherwise the installation will not be running on the other macbook.

  • Newly installed logic studio won't launch on my macbook pro

I just installed Logic Studio on my macbook pro (core 2) and it crashes before it can launch all the way. could this be a conflict with my protools LE software, or Reason? any ideas? thanks.

Have you downloaded the .01 update for LP8? That should improve things a fair bit. Don't know about the MBox2; might want to their website on that one.

  • Logic Studio comes with quicktime 7 Pro.   where is it?

as the box indicates in the "contents" section beside the requirements section in the top side of the box, it gives the list of all the softwares that come with logic studio (e.i. logic pro, soundtrack pro2, waveburner, compressor... blah blah blah all that... but it says close to the end: quicktime PRO 2, which i guess is a "better" version, or it has more features... i dont know. the thing is i dont quite see that i actually have it installed on my mac. when i open quicktime and check on the "about quicktime.." it says its only quicktime.. but doesnt say anything about being PRO 2. its also the 7.5.5 version...
Since i installed everything from logic studio.. and still cant seem to find a way to see that QT pro 2 has been installed on my mac, can anyone explain to me what could be happening?
    thanks.

This has had a lot of people confused. Logic doesn't actually come with any software for Quicktime Pro, because you already have it imbedded into the regular version of Quicktime. When you buy QTP, or buy something like Logic that includes it, it simply 'unlocks' your regular version of Quicktime, which allows you access to a bunch of features that regular Quicktime didn't have.
Open System Preferences->Quicktime, and it should say: 'Registered To: Apple Pro Apps User' and 'Registration Code: Automatic.' You'll also notice that the 'Q' graphic on that window has a little 'PRO' tag on it too.
If you were still running the regular Quicktime, when you went to the QT Player, and dropped down any of the menus from the menubar, most of the options would be grayed out and say 'Pro Only,' or something like that. Now all of the options in those menus will be available.
And yes, it should be version 7.5.5.
