Installing LR5 & Elements 10 on new computer

Last year I upgraded from LR3 to LR5 (upgrade version) running on a PC. I need a new PC and I am thinking of going for an iMac. I know the disks have both PC & Mac versions on them…my question is…do I need to install the LR3 version first, then install version 5, or can I just install version 5 and enter the product key for version 5...I presume Elements 10 will be ok as a straight install!

I doubt the license is affecting the performance - it might be a case of the software being too old for the machine.
In any case, you can contact Adobe support thru chat and have them reset your activation count to eliminatre your doubts regarding the license.

How can I deactivate Elements 7 on one computer so I can install it on a newer computer? I tried clicking the help button and then there is not a deactivate button.

It may not be necessary as you are permitted two activations.
Deactivate is only available under the Help menu in Full Edit, not from the Organizer menu.

you may as well install the later lr 5.7.1 rather than 5.6 and then updating.

Transferring LR5 to a new computer

I rec'd an email from Adobe saying my "trial" period is about over, but I pch'd LR5 in August, 2013. Apparently the new computer I have is viewed by Adobe as a trial period; how do I transfer my LR5 to the new computer?

You have to license LR on each new computer it is installed on. For LR with a serial number, you need to re-enter the serial number. For LR that is part of the Photography Program PS-CC+LR bundle, you license it by installing that particular version and then being logged into CC Desktop.

It does not seem likely that CS6 was upgraded from version 10. You might want to check your purchase history in your Adobe account to see if there is some missing link in the chain of purchases you made.
You can always try contacting Adobe support thru chat to see if they can find information or otherwise assist you in this matter.

If you have not been able to install iTunes because the Windows Installer service is not available, I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following troubleshooting to help.
Issues installing iTunes for Windows
These in particular:
Make sure you have an administrator account.
To install iTunes, you'll need to log in to your computer with an administrator password. If you're not sure if you have an administrator account, read Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator? You could also refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Install the latest Microsoft Windows updates.
To download the latest updates, visit the Microsoft Windows Update website. iTunes for Windows requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 with the latest Service Pack installed. If you can’t install the updates, refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Download the latest version of iTunes.

Disable conflicting software.

Was the media solely on the external library? If so, it is likely that iTunes was started at some point with the external drive unaccessible. Simply point iTunes to the correct library location. To do this, close iTunes. Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes. When prompted to find library or create a new one, select the find option and point iTunes to where the iTuneslibrary.itl file is at on your computer (or external drive).

when you were install your cs3 you should have been prompted for you serial number. were you?
if not, you probably didn't properly install cs3. copying/migrating/moving etc is problematic.
if yes, did you see any error messages during installation?
if yes, attach a screenshot of the error message.
if not, check you install logs, Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6, CC
