Installing Mac os without a cd drive

I am trying to install Tiger on my powerbook 12" (1st gen.) but my cd drive is basically dead, I can't afford a new drive but I have access to extrememly good macs
Is there anyway I can install Tiger over firewire from another computer using its drive?

Yep, connect the two computers via FireWire and start the PowerBook in target access mode (hold down "t" while booting). Then run the Tiger install DVD on the other Mac and when it comes to choosing a drive to install select the PowerBooks drive.

  • How do i install Mac OSX Leopard on other drive

how do i install Mac OSX Leopard on a drive other than my Snow Leopard computer? I need to access old files that will not open with new OS.

Simple. When you get the prompt to install Snow Leopard on your existing computer you will see a button that says "change destination disk..." or words to that effect.
You can select any mounted volume. If that volume already has a later version of OS X installed, you will need to erase it first using Disk Utility.

  • I'm trying to install Mac OSX on an external drive with my Mac Mini

A few days ago, I picked up my new Mac Mini. I'm using the install disk included with the Mini in an attempt to install Mac OSX 10.4.5 onto my external hard drive - a LaCie d2 200GB.
The installer knows the LaCie is there - but it won't let me install it there. I had no problem doing this with my last Mac (Power Mac G4). Does anyone have any suggestions?
Mac Mini Duo Core 1.66Mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   LaCie d2 Firewire Hard Drive 200GB

If you are using an Intel mac mini you need to change the partition scheme. Without doing this the Intel Macs cannot boot from the drive.
To do this you need to open Disk Utility, select your drive (not the partition), then select the Partition tab. In there you'll see an Options… button. Click on it and change the partition scheme to GUID Partition Table. Click OK and then apply the reparitioning.
Please be aware that by making this change you will be able to boot your Intel Mac from the drive although a PowerPC drive will no longer be able to use the drive as a boot drive.

  • How to install Mac OSX on New Hard Drive (No Disk)

I have a new Hard Drive that I just received and I'm looking to install it on my Early 2009 17 inch Macbook Pro. The problem is I dont have the original disk that came with my macbook. I do have a 2TB external HD so is there anyway I can back up Maverick on there and install it on the new Hard Drive without having the original Disk?

If your machine is running Mavericks with the old drive, just connect the new one in an external enclosure. Boot to the Recovery partition by holding the Command and R keys at startup. Run Disk Utility to prep the new drive, exit Disk Utility and install Mavericks.
You could also do the external enclosure and use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your existing drive to the new one.

  • I can't Install Mac OS X on external drive!

    hi all,
i got an external drive that i hoped to use for emergeny disk repair. When i try installing Mac OS X on it, it says that Mac OS X cant be installed on it. does anyone know why this is and how i can install Mac OS X on it?

Sure - depends on how you prep the drive. I went through the same agony, until I found the solution. Simple, actually.
    Two things -
    1. use a Firewire drive only. USB will not work to boot from.
    2. When partitioning, use the GUID partition scheme option to prep the drive.
I've got one here I do it with all the time. When it's connected and I boot, hold down Option and it's there as another bootable drive. Takes longer, since it's not internal, but can save your butt from time to time.

  • How to install Mac OS without media and another Mac?

I have wiped out disk in my Macbook A1432 (Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz). I do not have any install media or Mac OS available, just a Windows desktop. My question:
Is there any easy way to install Mac OS on my Macbook? All manuals are using another Mac OS for creating image, but as I said, I do not have it. I did not mange to find any DVD ISO on Apple site. Thank you

How we proceed depends on what version of OS X the Mac started with.
But it sounds as though you started with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and upgraded to Lion (10.7.5).
If that's is possible try rebooting your Mac and holding down the command and R keys as soon as you hear the chime, release them when (or if) Recovery loads.

  • Installing CS6 on a MAC Airbook without a DVD drive.

My company purchased 14 copies of CS6 and I have received the software DVDs. However, I need to install a few of these copies on MAC Airbook laptops that do not have a DVD drive. I am not able to copy the contents to a server to install from there. Is there a way to install from the web and use the serial number I already paid for and received? Suggestions?

    Ms JacKAY wrote:
I wouldn’t think that the trial version would work but I’ll give that a try.
It works well since the Trial version code/features and the purchased version code/features are identical. The serial number is the only difference.
Many non-Adobe customers people run the Trial for a while then purchase a serial number and activate the installed trial without any need to re-install.

  • Can I install mac on a new hard drive in my windows computer and get rid of windows completely?

I have a windows desktop computer. Can I install a new hard drive and install ios mavericks on it? In other words, convert my windows desktop to a mac?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You may be able if your computer meets some requirements and if you don't mind putting your PC in risk, but it's not legal to install OS X on non-Mac computers. See the OS X Terms of Use > http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX109.pdf
