Installing Mac OS X Install Disc Pls Help

I am thinking of re-installing mac os x install disc (is it call leopard?) on my macbook, will the re-installation erase all my present photos, contacts and documents in my macbook?

If you do an Erase and Install, then all your data would be lost. You can try the following instead:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Mixed up my install discs! Help!

    I have a 12" PB 1.5 and an iMac G5 20" 2.1.
Each has 2 install discs. The 1st disc in each case is clear (saying PB or iMac) , but the other 2 discs just say Install disc 2. In moving my stuff around I put all the discs (in their cases) together, and now don't know which Install Disc 2 belongs to which Mac.
The 2 Macs come with different apps etc, so I would not want to mix them up. Trying to look at the contents does not seem to help - there is only an installer visible.
The only other visible difference on the actual discs is a serial number, different on each. Does anyone have any idea how I can tell them apart?
    Thanks in advance!

Okay, glad you got it sorted. But if those are the gray OEM disks, they should say?
Anyway ,all this then got me looking for my OEM disks for this Intel iMac and they seem to have "vanished mysteriously". Must hunt furiously all over the house now

  • OSX 10.3.1 install error PLS help

    Hi,
I've been having problems installing panther on my old G3 power mac, I get around to finishing the installation but when I try to boot up it shows the apple logo then has like a "stop sign." i don't know what that means, I haven't even gotten to installing the second disc yet, I was installing on a 40 gb hd.
I've tried the disc repair on the installation disc but to no avail, I still had my old Os 9 and that instaled perfectly on my old 6 gb hd.
firmware seems to be to date 1.1
well I've tried everything i know, hope you guys can help me out many thanks in advance

As you say, it's essentially the same as this one.
Satellite P770-BT4G22 (PSBY3U-02W01N), so the downloads here will work.
i guess this notebook is/was not a popular one since its not in this Toshiba support website
This situation is not uncommon. It's either a special order or from a big-box store.
Try a Startup Repair and a System Restore from the Windows Recovery Environment.
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Let us know how it goes.

  • Mac Running Slow - Etrecheck attached - Pls Help!

    Hi,
My Mac has been running painfully slow recently. This all started when i had almost used up all my memory. I purchased a hard drive and copied files over to create more space, however my Mac is still running slow. I get the beach ball all the time when trying to do most things which is frustrating. I use Logic and Serato on my Mac and never had a problem before the start up disk got full! I thought by removing data it would resolve the problem but it has not. When i updated to Mavericks my Mac was running fine as was Logic.
I have done a Etrecheck and attached below to hopefully shed some light on the problem.
Please let me know your thoughts? All help is appreciated.

  • I need help installing mac os x tiger, disc 2

my macbook successfully installed disc 1 of mac os x tiger, within minutes, however when it asks for me to insert disc 2, and i do so, it almost finishes installing the disc, then an error message pops up, saying "there were errors installing the software, please try installing again" i have repeated this process at least 20 times, and the same thing keeps happening. i can't even use my computer regularly since everytime i open it up this happens! please help!

Hold the Moyse button down to eject Disc #2 while booting up, at the same time hold the Option/alt key down to have the startup manager pop up, insertt Disc #1 & wait For Disc #1 to show as a boot choice.
That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

I erased by Hard drive without backing up. Now, when I put the install disc one inside, it says that Mac os x cannot be installed on this computer. The computer was running Mac os x 10.5.8. Any help?

Boot from your DVD by switching on the Mac & inserting the disc, restart it & hold the "C" key. Once the installer window loads & you have selected your language, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu. You will then need to select your disk from the menu within Disk Utility & choose how you wish to format. It should be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Once it has formatted, you should then be able to install the OS.
PLEASE REMEMBER...that formatting a disk will completely erase it's content. Be sure that you don't wish to recover any of your previous content before doing any of the above.

You need to reinstall the printer driver, and set up the printer on the new hard drive.
The Canon site should have the driver. Download it and install.
Then go to Apple menu / System Preferences / Print & Fax and click the + (plus sign) and follow the directions.

  • Mac OS X Leopard install disc -- optional developer installs -- help please

Hello. I have a question that I've been looking to have answered for a long time. Within the install disc for Leopard, there is a folder called Developer or something like that, and inside it are the installation packages for Xcode Tools, Web Objects, and Dashcode. I have installed these three packages on my computer (I am a computer programmer -- I have very little experience with Mac programming, but I want to get started with learning). Anyways, in addition to these three installation packages, there is a folder called Packages, and inside this folder are about twenty installation packages, with names like X11, WebObjectsDocumentation, gcc, java, and SDKs and earlier versions of Mac OS X and that kind of thing. My question is -- what are these? Are they separate from the things that the Xcode Tools package installs, or are they all included in that package? If I'm going to be developing on the Mac, are these things I am going to need? Any info in regard to this will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My question is -- what are these?
They are sub-packages. The main XCode installer will install all the components by invoking the individual installers. The packages are separated in case you want to install the individual components (e.g. just install X11 without all the other parts).
As to whether you need them, that's only something you can answer based on what you're trying to do.
There's no harm in installing them even if you don't intend/expect to use them, other than eating a little disk space.

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.
