Installing Mavericks cause Kernel Panic and after installing too
Hi,
I worked with Mountain Lion and all was good, but I thought that would be nice to update to Mavericks.
And I'm not good in Mac OS, so I didn't prepare backup before, because believed that it have to work.
But during installation I got kernel panic several times, yeah. But installation process was continued and finally Mavericks was installed.
I was happy, but I shouldn't.
From time to time I'm getting kernel panic and I don't know what is reason.
The worst things that I can't rollback to ML, because for some reason Mavericks installing instead.
And I did clean install several times, and did cleaning NVRAM and PRAM, but it all didn't help to me.
I haven't Apple Support in my country, so I can't even come to service center.
And my last hope is your support.
Could you please look on a kernel panic log and say me what is wrong with it?

1333 MHz is the wrong memory.
Your Mid 2009 MacBook Pro 5,5 uses PC3-8500 1066 MHz Memory....?

Airport causing kernel panics and kp in safe boot.
Last week I got my first kernel panic in years. It happened while I was asleep and checking an extrenal drive for bad blocks with TechTool. It turns out that the drive indeed had bad blocks and found that the cpu was shut down when I awoke. I started up the computer and it wasn't able to stay on for more than 10 min max before the next kernel panic. I checked here for more advice on kernel panics and started to try to narrow the number of culprits. Everything was unplugged and still kp. Instaled a new drive with a week older system from Time Machine and still kp. Reset NVRAM and replaced pyhsical RAM and still kp. Removed the Airport Extreme card and still kp. Booted into Safe Mode after all of the previously mentioned and still kp. I'm now going to take the drive and swap it into another body that I have to see if the root is actually on the drive on the physical hardware of the cpu.
I was interested in this thread and read all of the links that jpl posted. Airport causing Kernel Panic (?) Jason then replied that it had been solved due to a "permissions problem" I wish he gave more info on what exactly he did to resolve the problem as it's been almost a week now without any work being done for me.
I've also noticed this very strange behavior that might shed some light onto the issue. When I open System Prefs and close the window there is a strange colored pattern that will always flash after the window has been closed. I tried to post it to my me page but for somereason it wouldn't play for me so there's that and the YouTube version too.
https://www.me.com/gallery/#100008/Prefs%20Screen
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrTt88YdBo
In addition when the computer has started up and the system loads. Checking Activity Monitor shows that there are 50 or more threads active for the the kernel_task. Inspecting this doesn't seem to show any useful information.
Finally here are a few of the recent crashes I hope that someone might be able to shed some light on this extremely frustrating problem for me.

Thanks in advance,
MaxMy vision is pretty poor, still cant see it, but...
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process. -
Boot from 10.4.8 Install CD causes kernel panic
I spent 3 months convincing my boss that I would not settle for anything but a Mac for a new laptop and that I would rather use my old beat up G4 than the best Dell had to offer. My incesant begging finally worked and I got one. Not one day after taking it out of the box, I broke it.
Long story short, I installed boot camp (which was successful) and then was attempting to use Parallels to 'boot' the Boot Camp partition inside OSX (new feature in parallels apparently), of which I was not succesful. Though, everything operated ok until I rebooted, deciding I would ditch the parallels stuff for now and be satisfied with a dual booting Mac. I rebooted the Mac only to find that it would not only not boot the Mac partition, but the Windows partition failed as well.
What does work:
I can boot single-user mode fine on the mac partition, but if I try to 'mount -uw /' I get a kernel panic.
Doing a 'diskutil list' just hangs as do other diskutil commands.
I can successfuly boot a windows install cd.
What doesn't work:
I can't boot the Tiger install DVD that came with the laptop (fails with a grey screen after a minute or so of loading). Reviewing it in verbose mode (command-v after selecting the cd) indicates that it also ends in a kernel panic similar to booting the mac partition (though I don't know if it's exactly the same).
Anyone got any ideas? I'm fine with formating the entire disk and starting fresh but I can't get it to boot from the install DVD.
Should I 'erase' the disk from single user mode and retry? I'm afraid do destroy the only maintenance interface I have.
If details of the specific panics would help, I'd be happy to try to copy them.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I fear I'm going to have to show up at work on monday only to report that the brand new laptop of which its' unsurpassed stability I've been preaching about for months, is not working. How humiliating.
thanks,
Rustin

Would this be covered under the complimentary 90 day
service if it's not a hardware issue?
I'm pretty sure it would, but I can't say for sure. The only fly in the ointment might be that Boot Camp seems to be involved, so I don't know how they'll react when that topic comes up. Boot Camp isn't really supported, I think, since it's pre-release. But, on the other hand, you should still be able to boot from the DVD and wipe the hard drive if you want.
I have a store
near me that I bought my first G4 from but have never
gone there for support. Should I get there early in
the morning for this?
Is it an actual Apple Store? Look in the list under the center picture on this page:
http://www.apple.com/buy/
If so, go to its page and click the link just above the calendar to make your reservation. Then just show up at the store a little bit before the reservation time, in case they're running ahead.
If it's not a corporate store, I'm not sure what to do.

Kernel Panic(s) after installing Final Cut Studio
So I've been using this Mac Pro for 10+ months.
10G Ram, 3 internal hard drives, OSX 10.5.8.
Been running Logic Pro and Aperture and other small apps with zero problems.
Recently, the only change to my computer is I installed Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio Upgrade.
Past 3 days I've gotten 2 kernel panics. (Report said something about FBD Memory?)
(1st one, I was using Mpeg Streamclip to transcode footage.
2nd one, I was only running Safari.)
I repaired disk permissions, used diskwarrior, did the hardware diagnostic test thing, nothing came up.
I asked Apple Genius but they just said reduce everything to 'base config' and troubleshoot from there.
I wanna ask you guys, do you know of any obvious existing conflicts between the software that might be going on? Am I missing something obvious?Have a look at System Profiler and if you have ECC errrors on the third slot (after rendering some time), you might have the same problem like me and it's not solved yet. But you can take out the third dimm or run smcFanControl and raise the speed a little. Both helps in my case as a workaround.

Installing WEFT causes kernel panics every time.
Anyone else seen this?
Each time I try to install WEFT (Tool for embedding fonts for using in webpages/HTML) via WINE I get a full-on kernel panic. Whether an installation with the database components or not.
Should not really happen, should it? Brand new Macbook with 10.5.1.
Any suggestions for other Mac OS font embedding tools would be gratefully received but thought I should flag this up.
Thanks.

Is it your experience that trying to run windows stuff via wine on the latest release of OS X always works just fine?
Any suggestions for other Mac OS font embedding tools would be gratefully received but thought I should flag this up.
I'm no expert, but my impression was that Mac OS doesn't support eot font technology and you have to run the Weft tools on Windows. However the latest versions of webkit do support a simpler version of font embedding:

Kernel panics increasing after installing new SSD with Mavericks on 2010 MBP
I'm having more frequent random reboots on my recently upgraded MacBook Pro. (mid 2010, Processor: 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7, Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, external monitor: LG Flatron IPS235)
The almost 5yr old original hard drive started making the tell-tell scratching noises and the MBP would randomly reboot 1 or 2 times a week.
I had the HD replaced with a new 480GB SSD drive by certified pros. I mentioned the spontaneous reboots to the pro and he told me that it was probably due to the faulty HD.
The new drive came with 10.9 already installed, whereas I had been running 10.6.8 in order to keep a lot of the older software I relied on.
So accepting the loss of quite a few applications, I proceeded to install just the apps I needed, as needed them. Then the random reboots started happening, a lot more often, up to 2x a day, browsing the web or just checking email. The one thing I could do to trigger the crash, ironically enough, was by scrolling on the new iMac 5K landing page- halfway through "zooming out" (scrolling) in the waterfall image would shut 'er down.
Could it be the RAM? VRAM? The monitor? Updating my beloved MBP cost $575 (and several apps), so I'd like to go back to the same pro with information that could save me $$ on troubleshooting. I'm afraid to install the 10.9.x updates for fear it will bring my MBP to it's knees.
Thanks,
JesseHere is the report in it's entirety:

2012 Macbook Air Kernel Panics post after installing Mountain Lion
I recently purchased a 2012 13" Macbook Air. No Issues under Lion for over a month. After upgrading to Mountain Lion (and taking the firmware update to support power), I've been experiencing consistent shutdowns whenever I close the lid and let the machine sleep for more than a few minutes. I've been submitting the error reports and gave apple a call yesterday and we went through some troubleshooting steps but the problem has continued. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Trying to figure out if it's a Mountain Lion or firmware bug that I will need to live with until a fix comes out or if it's possibly a third party software incompatability issue. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Hi guys! Just installed ML on my early 2009 MBAir (after market upgraded to a 240g SSD, but still just 2g of ram), and I panicked a bit at first when it turned out to be painfully slow and not displaying right (+slow trackpad!).
Bear in mind that the first thing ML will do is index your files for spotlight, which takes a while and is a bit of a resource hog that will slow everything else down and cause your machine to heat up.
I let it work all night, but by morning, my CPU usage was STILL at 100% and everything slow...
Activity monitor showed nothing over 10% CPU usage... First tip was to display ALL processes in Activity monitor, and not just MY processes, to see what exactly was sucking up my CPU!
Then, and it seems to often be the culprit on MBA's, it turned out that the kernel_task process was using up to 170% of my CPU usage (!). Problem is, that process sort of does a million things, so it can be hard to pinpoint the actual issue.
One of the things it does though, is work against overheating...
Given the download+install+indexing, my machine had been working all day and night, and was indeed getting super hot. Turning it off and letting it cool down for a whole fixed it all.
Kernel_task is back to normal, CPU usage is normal, display and trackpad are back to perfect. And in the end, ML is snappier than SL for me, even with the bare minimum in memory!
Good luck! <3 -
Was upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2, and after install,
Mail and iMessage wouldn't open. I decided to try to restart, and my early 2011 MacBook Pro will not restart. Gives the white Apple logo screen, and a progress bar that fills about 10 percent and the unit shuts down. Tried to repair the disc, and it says it's not repairable. Went to disc utility to restore from my Time Machine backup, and it says there are no backups! I know it backs up every night, yet it is showing nothing.
I guess my question has two parts:
1. Can my disc be repaired by some other means? (Since I don't have the backup I thought I had!)
2. How do I retrieve my backups on my Time Machine(or, where did they go!)?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. If you live near an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment to have the computer tested. Supposedly there is no charge for testing.

A stale or corrupt kernel cache
A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You may already have ruled out some of these.
Rule out #1 by booting in safe mode and then rebooting as usual. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
You can rule out #2 and #3 by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model.
The Apple Hardware Test or Apple Diagnostics, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Connecting more than one display is another reported trigger for OS X bugs.
If your system is not fully up to date, running Software Update might get you a bug fix.
In rare cases, a malformed network packet from a defective router or other network device can cause panics. Such packets could also be sent deliberately by a skillful attacker. This possibility is something to consider if you run a public server that might be the target of such an attack.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair

Kernel Panic only after I install 16GiB RAM but it passed memtest and AHT
Kernel Panics occur after I installed the 16GiB RAM(Corsair Vengeance Laptop Memory Kit 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL10 PC3 12800 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10) in my MacBook Pro 17" 2011 early. It might appear in login window, or after using Safari for 2 or 3 hours. If I did't use the MBP overnight and just let it run, there would be strong possibility that kernel panic didn't occur. But on the next day when I went up and start using the computer, the kernel panic occur in half an hour.
I run the memtest for 12+ hours and Apple Hardware Test for 19+ hours, but no error was found. I tried OS X Lion 10.7.4 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 GM, and even a clean install of 10.7.4, but it still occur.
However, when I install one of the 16GiB a.k.a 8GiB, kernel panic never occur. I even tried one 8GiB with another my old 4GiB ram, and kernel panic didn't occur either.
I've tried to fix the problems for 2 weeks, and I did everything I can. So, can anyone tell me which part might be bad, Mac or RAM? Should I goto Genius Bar or ask Corsair for RMA?
Here's my latest panic log:

Thank you for your reply.
My 8GiB RAM is also two 4GiB DDR3 1600MHz (SAMSUNG) and it was running very well.
I also checked the intel documents (http://ark.intel.com/products/50067/Intel-Core-i7-2720QM-Processor-(6M-Cache-up- to-3_30-GHz), and it says:
Memory Types
DDR3-1066/1333/1600
If you have read my original reply to you post, I did mention that someimes it will work and sometimes it won't. Your Samsung might be rated at 1600MHz but the CL could be higher than your Corsair which is why it worked.
The memory Type you read in the link you provided is motherboard/logicboard depended. Your Logic board is rated at 1333MHz. So going 1600MHz will not benefit you since you're locked at 1333MHz.

Random Kernel Panics even after Clean Install from Genius Bar
Despite being "all apple" I'm about fed up with these kernel panics and ready to convert!
I believe these started with Lion... I'm now fully updated on Maverick.
Nothing has seemed to change.
I took my iMac to the Genius Bar after I finally figured out a way to replicate a panic.
After all sorts of memory, and other hardware tests they suggested and performed a clean sweep.
I came home, restored with Time Machine, and thought all was well...
Now, a week later I'm back to having restarts in the middle of extensive projects.
I've had two in the past two hours.
I initially diagnosed it as anytime a large file (2GB+) was being moved, saved, or when a back up or virus scan was being performed.
Then it happened at other times and proved that wrong.
Then I assumed it was RAM. I took it out, cleaned, and performed multiple tests. All was good and up.
Then I could reproduce it while working with a LARGE file in iMovie.
Thats when I took it to the Bar.
Now, I'm long out of iMovie and working mainly in Google Chrome with nothing else opened, but Evernote, and FileZilla, which I have used for years.
The last two panics have included the : 0xdeadbeefdaadbeef
Could it be the grapics drivers? Using
NVIDIA GeForce 9400
Type: GPU
Bus: PCI
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Device ID: 0x0869
Revision ID: 0x00b1
ROM Revision: 3454
Any Help?
I can post the panics if needed...Here's the EtreCheck... looks like I have a lot more 3rd Party stuff than I realized...? Probably some of the problem?

After installing Mavericks my MacBook Pro and my MacMini can't shut down, only a grey screen and finish. Must be killed by the power button. Why?
Ausserdem startet die Macs wesentlich langsamer als mit OS X 10.6.8.same here... sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't!!

Mail app quits when opened after installing Mavericks. I reinstalled and still the same. I noticed the mail app icon has not changed to the new icon in Mavericks. Any suggestions?
I also forgot to note that this problem also persists with the new iBooks application. I cannot get past the 'Get Started' screen or access the iBooks Store. Again, all top bar menus are unresponsive.

Clean installed iMac has kernel panic's
Hi,
I have a 2011 iMac with 16GB Kingston Memory installed. I have no USB devices connected. Only a keyboard and a ethernet cable. I keep on having kernel panic's with this iMac. An employee at a Apple Premium Reseller shop adviced me to do a clean install. I did this, but now i'm having this kernel panic again. I have not installed any suspicous software, just standard stuff like Adobe, Askype, Chorme, iWork … and so on.
Can anyone read a kernel panic file and determine what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance,
Hannes

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
