Installing mcafee

i have no idea where to post this question.
does anyone know how i can install mcafee internet security (virus scan, etc) onto my ibook g4? i paid for mcafee thru august but my pc died. i wanna know if i can use mcafee on macintosh. mcafee replied by email that i should go to apple.com. i did, but couldn't find anything on this topic or how to even contact apple tech support.
any advice much appreciated!

Your post answered my question partially and it is reassuring that my laptop is protected. My other worry as a new Mac user who switched from Windows -
1. What is the built in firewall and where do I find the software in the OSX? Is it a stand alone or built in?
2. What is the protection from some of the virus genereated by emails? I know all attachments are scanned before opening but in my yahoo group some guy has opened a worm and the virus is shooting off emails. This is not destructive but a pain. Can this invade my laptop? I don't see any emails being posted from my address book which means I am protected.
3. Is there any software like LAVASOFT protection from embedded virus?
4. Is there any way to run a periodical virus scan of the system?

  • [locked] Is there any way to complain to Adobe re. installing McAfee stuff?

Is there any way to officially complain to Adobe about installing McAfee software? In last several updates of Flash I did not see any option to opt out and since I don't need this "tool", every update to Flash is followed with uninstall. I install Flash Player updates to fix possible Adobe issues and security holes and not to add bloatware to my computer.
I am looking for links or emails where I could effectively address this issue, not an outsourced customer service site that won't escalate the problem anywhere.
    Thanks.

I've invested well over $11,000 in Master Collections of CS3, CS4, and CS5 for Windows and Mac, not to mention hundreds of unpaid hours here in these forums, helping people use the same products I do.
I've also bought two HP Printers, a Lexmark printer, a Canon scanner, a pair of Canon digital cameras, four external hard drives, and about $4,000 worth of additional photo editing, video editing, web design and audio editing software.
How would your viewpoint differ based on that alone?
The fact is, you bought a piece of software, you didn't buy the company. You're no more entitled to change business practices at Adobe as a Flash owner, than a parent who buys a Happy Meal for their kid is entitled to run McDonald's.
If you don't have time to read what you're installing, you will get what you deserve and you'll deserve what you get.
Your viewpoint may be different, but the fact is, it's WRONG.

If you downloaded Flash Player from the standard location http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ then you WILL have the option to decline the bundled install:
If you download the installer from Mike's link above (which is posted several dozen times in this forum every day), then you will not get any bundled software.

  • Why does the Flash player update push me to install McAfee Security Scan Plus?

When Flash asks me if I want to update, it takes me to an Adobe page to update it, but there is a checkbox already checked to install McAfee Security Scan Plus. I already have an anti-virus program installed. Why does the flash update page assume that I want to install this software?

Generally this occurs because there's a third-party plug-in that affects how the JavaScript on the page got executed.  Ghostery, AdBlock Pro and NoScript are common candidates.
Under normal operating conditions, you should see an opt-out dialog like the one below.  While cost-recovery measure are a reality for a product that is tremendously expensive to develop and distribute free of charge, the intent is absolutely to allow you to opt out.
If you want to avoid the download and installation experience for Flash altogether, switch to a browser that includes Flash Player as a built-in component, like Google Chrome or Internet Explorer on Windows 8 and higher.

  • Why does Flash Player install McAfee software?

I installed today Flash on my Windows PC. I opened the installer, chose "Notify me of all updates" and pressed install. The following progress bar showed not only the progress of the Flash installation but also the progress of some McAfee software installation. I couldn't reject it in an way. I had to uninstall it once it finished.
So my question is clear: Why? I don't want McAfee, I should be able to tell the installer "don't install McAfee". What if I had a limited broadband connection (3G, for example)? What if McAfee broke my antivirus installation? Is Adobe or McAfee going to be responsible if anything goes bad because of that bundle installation?
This is terrible user experience. The only thing you've achieved is my bad impression of both business, so I'll purchase/download as little as I can of any of you.
    Congratulations.

It's in one or more of the update links. It's been reported, but there isn't a big priority to change it.
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Those are FULL installers with nothing bundled.
Bookmark them, because when the version changes, the link stays the same.

Does anyone recommend installing McAfee on a new Macbook Pro?

I personally recommend sticking to the built-in Mac security system that should do great at protecting you.

  • Why is Adobe installing McAfee software by stealth?

I cannot understand why Adobe is installing McAfee software by stealth, and infuriating users like myself?
I cannot understand the mindset in a supposedly clever organisation that could imagine that this is OK?
It is fundamentally both deceitful and patronising.

Wanted to add a voice to this, disgusting behaviour. The latest Flash update provides NO option to customise the installation (i.e. remove unwanted McAfee Security). There may be an alternative download site, but the automatic update option has no options.
The more I use Adobe products, the less I want to. The sooner the web catches up with HTML5 and dumps Flash the better.
You DO have the option to disable automatic updates. Your post doesn't read as though you don't know how to do that, but it's in the Global Settings under the Advanced tab. The downside is that you have to manually update, but the following links remain the same even though the file is updated with each release:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
They contain the FULL installer only. Bookmark them and you'll never have to bother with third party software.

  • Stop Installing MCafee Antivirus every time you update!

Getting really tired of having to uninstall this garbage every time you update.  I am updating flash, which is annoying enough as one of the most nonsecure programs on the internet.  Piling more garbage on top of it is just insult.
Please give an option to not install McAfee.  I don't need it.

Use the FULL installers to update:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

  • Auto-installing McAfee with Flash?  Shame on you, Adobe.

As a longtime Adobe product user (Photoshop 3 through today, After Effects, Premiere and now CC subscriber) I was extremely disappointed and appalled when Adobe Flash Update installed McAfee without asking me.  I was so surprised, I went back to reinstall on another machine to see if I had missed a pre-checked box.  Guess what - no option to skip the McAfee on this update.
I have seen (and unchecked) the McAfee box in the past.  This time, it didn't ask.
This is not how reputable software companies do business Adobe.  I expect better form you!
There should never be software that is installed by default, just as "options" that many people avoid for secuirty reasons (like the check box for keep me signed in) should NEVER be checked by default.
If you want to stop developing Flash, or charge for it, fine.  But do not place programs on  my computer that I did not ask for.
Shame on you, Adobe.  Shame on you.

As already pointed out there is nothing we can do here to help you but
if you were after alternatives or what economists call substitute
products then clearly Microsoft is the best.  They have almost
everything Adobe has and their products are relatively less expensive
    than Adobe's.
Whether you like these alternatives is a different story altogether but
alternatives they are and there are others out there if you look for
them.  Search for Open Source products (free products) and you will be
    surprised what you get.
    Good luck.

  • Installing McAfee Family Protection on second lapt...

Guys/gals - I am trying to install Mcafee family Protection (downloaded from the MyBT pages) on a second laptop.  I have been using the product successfully for some time on my first laptop, but am building a new one to replace it.
On running the install program on the second machine it appears to 'install' correctly, but then I am faced with the "Create a Mcafee Family Protection account", where I am faced with the 'email address', 'password' and 'confirm password' screens.  I do not want to create an account as I already have one.  When I enter the email address it says this already exists and I have to use a unique one.  I appear not to be able to get past this screen without putting in another email address.  Surely there is a way of installing the software but using my existing account, otherwise what's the point of saying it can be installed on up to 3 machines.  It would appear to do that you have to have three different email addresses?!
    Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks guys, but I think you're suggestions are relating to anti-virus products?
    You are quite right.
    Have a look at http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/features/security/3286114/the-five-best-free-parental-control-programs/
I haven't tried these so can't comment from my own experience:  my over 30 year old children might object if I tried!
As so often with reviews of 'best', McAfee doesn't appear on the list.
Also, configuring for OpenDNS will do much of what you want.

  • Problems after installing McAfee 8.8

I am running a 64-bit GUI project using LabWindows 2012 SP1 as a standalone executable.  We have the identical program running on two identical computers in our lab, both using Windows 7.  Our system administrator recently installed McAfee anti-virus version 8.8 on both PCs and configured some other security settings as well.  I am now getting error messages when I try to run the program.  One PC immediately pops up an error that says "Mesa.dll could not be found".  The error reappears repeatedly if I click on it to try to clear it.  The other PC starts the program but gives an error saying "Could not open a session to the VISA Resource Manager" when I try using it to run some other test programs.
Our project ran fine on both PCs until the anti-virus program was installed.  On the computer with the DLL error, we have tried uninstalling McAfee, reinstalling the run-time engine, and reinstalling the MS C++ 2008 redistributable.  It's still not working.

    Hello richferrara,
    A couple of questions:
If you search for mesa.dll on the target computer, does it show up on that computer? Where is it located? Is it in the same place as on the computer that does not give the dll error?
The VISA Resource Manager error doesn't seem like it's directly related to the other one. Are you using NI-VISA in your application? Or a third-party VISA driver? Does the error message give you any indication of where the error is happening or an error number, or is it just the text message?
