Installing Messaging Server Procedure

We just received a copy of the Web Communicator package that includes Directory Server 5.1, Enterprise Web Server 6.0 SP2, Messaging Server 5.2, and Delegated Administrator. What is the correct sequence of installing these products? Where can I find a straight forward set of instructions for setting up a basic mail system with these packages? The documentation is overwhelming for what seems to be a pretty simple task; therefore, any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, are there any gotchas that I should know about to make the installation and setup go smoothly?
Thanks in advance

Messaging Server 5.2 installable consists of a directory server. You may choose to use that (version 4.16) or the directory server 5.1.
If you choose to use the dir server that comes with Messaging Server 5.2, the sequence of installation should be:
1. Messaging Server (This would also install your dir server version 4.16 for you.)
2. Enterprise Web Server.
3. Delegated Administrator.
If you choose to use Directory Server 5.1, the sequence would be:
1. Directory server 5.1
2. Messaging Server 5.2 (Make sure you point your Messaging server to the directory server you installed in step 1. Also you would have to run a perl script to configure the directory server 5.1 to work with Messaging server. This script ims_dssetup.pl is in the <msg server installable base>/solaris/iMS/msg/.
3. Web server
4. Delegated Administrator.

  • Installing Messaging Server on Windows XP

Folks, I'm trying very hard to install the Messaging Server on my laptop running XP. Actually, I'm interested in evaluating the Calendar Server, but it seems I need the SJSMS as well if I want to be able to programmatically subscribe to notification events when items change on the SJSCS.
Unfortunately, I can't really tell if the darned thing installs as part of the JES installation. It doesn't show up in the program group under Sun whereas Calendar Server, Portal Server, etc. all show up.
So I tried re-installing just the Messaging Server. It promptly removed everything else from the Start->All Programs->Sun program group. The other bits and pieces still have their directories all available, but interestingly, the log now shows that calendar server isn't running any more. Still no Messaging server in the Sun program group.
So I tried re-installing yet another time. This time is claimed to UNINSTALL the SJSMS!
I'm at the point where I plan to uninstall the entire JES and start again. This is an evaluation install, so I'm just hoping to have the Calendar Server and the Messaging Server (and of course, the Directory Server as it's a required component for the other two).
My question: Does the SJSMS work on XP? If so, what's a good way to test? I can't seem to find the JBiff.java program anywhere on my system, although the docs indicate that's what I should use for testing! I also can't find it online at Sun's web site.
    Thanks,
    MK

Java Enterprise System 2005 Q4 supports Windows XP as developer evaluation platform. Messaging, Calendar are part of this release. Both can be evaluated on Windows XP starting from 2005 Q1 release.
From the original message, the main issue seem to be missing Messaging in Program groups. Messaging Server is not directly
installer under C:\Sun similar to other products, it is installed C:\Sun\server-root as it requries the Administration Server.
There should be services created for Messaging
Please see the summary.txt file in your install root that describes where Messaging has been installed and other details thaat are used for setting up the evaluation configuration.
To evaluate calendar, select custom option, choose 'configure automatically; in product selection, uncheck all products, select Calendar (which auto selects other dependencies),and proceed.

  • Dude installing messaging server 6

hi, i have a dude when the installer give me the choice to sellect components to install.
    i have the pollowing context:
    - so solaris 10/06
    - sun 1 directory server v5.2
    - sun proxy server v?.?
so, when i want to install the messaging server the installer select to install a sun java directory server 5, so if i want to know waht i do in this case:
    a) i still directory server checked with hope for the installer find the directory server installed and configure these directory correctly :)
    b) uncheck the directory server 5 and wait to all work ok :)
i want to do option (b), but... you know... i dont know if i have problems with ldap or proxy.
    Any ideas...
    Salu2 :)

    Hi,
Messaging server doesn't require you to install directory server on the same host as the messaging server software. You can de-select directory server from being installed -- during the configuration of messaging server it will ask you which host directory server resides on, at which point you use the appropriate information.
This should all be explained in the installation guides -- I suggest you read them.
    Regards,
    Shane.

  • How to install and configure Sun java messaging server 6 2005Q4

    Hi all,
Please tell the steps to install and configure Sun Java Messaging Server 6 2005Q4.
    Thanks.

You aren't providing a lot of informations... in this case the answer could be: run the command
    /cdrom/jes_05_q4_dvd/Solaris_sparc/installer
if you just want to install messaging server on a single host, for evaluation purpose, in the documentation
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4879
there is an exhaustive guide. If instead you're trying to addres some specific question, then please give us more details such as O.S., schema version, and so on...

    Hi all,
I installed Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2005Q1 from Solaris 10 DVD on Solaris 10.

    Thanks.
I have a problem when I configure the Messaging Server (by running the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configure script):
Hostname mailtest for this machine is not a fully qualified domain name. Please
correct this before attempting to configure Messaging Server. Please make sure
that your DNS is working properly.

Can you help me fix this problem?

    Hi Venigalla,
You can implement a federated portal network (FPN) using the SAP NetWeaver platform to share content between portals.
A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point per user to portal information, services and applications distributed on portals in the network.
WSRP-based application sharing (FPN Mode used for for integrating content between SAP and Non SAP portals) :-
-->     Content administrators on a SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can integrate WSRP portlets (i.e. iViews) from remote non-SAP portals into SAP NetWeaver Portal.
-->      SAP NetWeaver developers can create WSRP compliant iViews that can be consumed in non-SAP consumer portals.
You may kindly go through the below link, should be helpful:

  • Integrating Messaging Server and Identity Server

I've got JES 2004Q2, and I'm trying to install the various components on different workstations to prove that a) the software works, and b) it's a viable alternative to Exchange (so please please help me get it working!)
The problem I have is getting Messenger Server and Directory Server talking properly so that I can create users and then log in as those users. After days of frustrating searching for solutions to this problem (and also find people who have successfully done this), I decided to install the components onto one server.
And it worked. Installing Messaging Server, Identity Server, Web Server (contained for Identity Server), Directory Server, and Admin Server all on the same box, configuring them all to use the same directory server for UG and preferences, running the various configuration tools that come with the software, and it all works together fine. Using "./commadmin domain modify .... -S mail", I get "OK". I can add users with the "-S mail" option, log in as those users, and send emails between those users. So this tells me that the software does work, albeit on one box.
When I try to separate the services out to separate boxes, they don't seem to integrate properly. I thought that maybe the order in which you configured applications made a difference (ie. configuring Identity Server after Messenger Server means IS will pick up on the changes made to the directory by MS, and enable it). I also tried to see if using the same options directory server from different boxes helped, but nothing. I've even tried patching them using 116568-52 and 116585-10 but no luck.
Therefore, I've found that installing all servers on one box works, but installing them on separate boxes doesn't (despite using the same directory servers). My conclusion in this is that one of two things must be the case:
    a) there's something in the install that has to be changed to reflect the fact that the services are running on different boxes
    b) the install of the services adds files to the system somewhere which other packages in JES pick up on (hence the reason why installing everything on one box works), and this isn't documented anywhere
Unfortunately, the output of commadmin when it fails isn't that helpful (nothing against the developers, however it doesn't really help in the fault finding process). I do believe however that the problem is with Identity Server and its configuration, rather than Messaging Server.
    Here's some (possibly) useful info:

Can anyone give me any suggestions? If I log a support call with Sun, what is the likely resolution time? My ultimate goal is to get the whole suite running together, then install Portal server. Once that's working, download the connectors for Outlook and get it all working with Outlook. As I said at the start, we're hoping to show this is a viable alternative to Exchange (certainly for the backend) so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Does the email recipient address change when the email is sent to gmail i.e. does an email sent to [email protected] become [email protected]?
We've got google for domains setup, so users would retain a @domain.com address regardless if there mailbox was hosted on the internal server or hosted at google. You can make use of the mailRoutingAddress: user attribute and source routing to get the desired behaviour e.g.
=> Set the following value to the LDAP entry of the user who is hosted on the gmail server. The "[email protected]" address should match the users mail: address:
mailRoutingAddress: @gmail.com:[email protected]=> Ensure the following option has been tcp_local channel in your imta.cnf file. This option strips off the "@gmail.com" value of the recipient address before sending the email to the gmail.com servers.
dequeue_removerouteMake sure you run "./imsimta cnbuild;./imsimta restart" after modifying the imta.cnf file.

  • Messaging Server on Windows

    Hi folks.
I'm trying to install Messaging Server 5.2 on a Win machine and I get the following error:
"A serious problem ocurred while installing the iPlanet Messaging Server domain component tree (msg.ugldap.dctree.inf) It reported the following problem:
The server configuration for the domain component tree (msg.ugldap.dctree.inf) cannot be created"
    Any suggest?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rgds.

Before installing iMS on Win2K machine, you have to install iMS for Win2K Service Pack, which is available on net, just extract the downloaded zip file in a folder and run the "ims_dssetup.pl" perl script.
i hope this might solve your problem.

  • My error: Messaging server 2005Q4 on solaris 10 u7

    Hi,
I did install messaging server 2005Q4 on solaris 10 u7 in sparc platform. After setup, i get problem when run perl comm_dssetup.pl configure
    /opt/DSServers/bin/slapd/admin/bin/perl comm_dssetup.pl
Please enter the directory manager DN [cn=Directory Manager]:
Password: The entered password for DN cn=Directory Manager is incorrect.
Please correct the problem and re-run this script.
There only 1 password so it is no way that i may fill an incorrect password. Besides, I have install many times, but this 's the first time i meet this problem. So I predict this is incompatible issue.
What should i do to correct this issue?

If so I suggest you read the "IMPORTANT NOTE" towards the bottom of the README file as this patch is known to cause problems with older releases of Directory Server.

  • Messaging Server/UNIX: Starts automatically after installation

How can I configure Messaging Server to run automatically on startup?
    <P>
In most cases, Messaging Server for UNIX will run at startup automatically.
    <P>
Most UNIX systems have a start script that includes a line that starts sendmail
as a server (/usr/lib/sendmail -bd) automatically.
Howver, when Messaging Server is installed, it replaces several mail utilities (mailq,
processq, and sendmail), with links to our sendmail binary
    (<ServerRoot>/bin/msg/admin/bin/sendmail).
Therefore, Messaging Server, rather than sendmail, starts when
    your system starts.
    <P>
This can be confusing to administrators of other Netscape servers since
most other Netscape servers are not installed to start automatically.
    <P>
    <B>Note:</B>
    <P>
This does not take effect until the system is fully restarted. After
installing Messaging Server, restart the system before attempting to start
Messaging Server. Sendmail is usually already running, and the installer does
    not kill the sendmail process.
    <P>
If you start Messaging Server without
restarting, smtpd will not start due to a port conflict.

Hi Leo, thank you for your help
    This:
I have tried the suggestion above (clear the "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed" checkbox) and it does the trick for me. However on the Home/Get Started/Set up screen the "Set up Server Backup" task is then reset to outstanding
while the .../Quick Status screen shows "Server Backup ON".
Is a working work around till a real update or hotfix is released

  • Regarding messaging server 5.1

I have installed messaging server 5.1 .All of its services are starting except for Iplanet Job controller. It gives an message" error 1067:the process terminated unexpectedely." Also while installing LDAP doest take 389 port it says it is used by some other server.i have salected ldap port as 1200.whether this is ok or not

First, why would anybody install 5.1 NOW, when 5.2 has been out two years?
Second, what OS are you installing on? That error message looks like the one I get running 5.2 (no patch) on Windows 2000. If that's what you have, then you MUST install the 5.2p2 patch to get windows 2000 compatibility.

  • Directory Server Replica and Messaging Server 6

I install Directory Server 5.2 as Master Replica in one machine (V120) and on the other machine (V240) I install the following:
    1. SunONE Directory Server 5.2 (Consumer
    Replica) or slave replica.
    2. SunONE Identity Server
    3. SunONE Messaging Server 6
I have successfully install and configured the 3 Servers, when they are running on just one machine (one box). But when I try to run them in two separate machines as described above, the messaging server acts strangely and it's configuration fails, when i try to configure it on the directory server replica.
In simpler words, I want to know if someone has installed Messaging Server in a Directory Server Replication scenario, where there are two machines involve. Because all works well when we install everything on one machine (one box) but I am having hard time configuring the messaging server in this split setup scenario.
So, if someone has idea about how to run the Messaging Server 6 ( ./configure ) file successfully on a Directory Server 5.2 Replica, please suggest me in detail.
    Thanking you,
    Farhan Ahmed.
    Vision Valley, Dubai.

Messaging Server uses LDAP in two ways. The obvious one is that user/group/domain information is stored there.
The non-obvious way is that some configuration information is stored in LDAP, in the "o=NetscapeRoot" tree. This tree is NOT ususally replicated, so if you perform the installation against one LDAP server, and then attempt to move the configuration to point to another one, and don't make a separate replication agreement for the configuration, your server won't work correctly.
To configure Messaging against a replica, you also need to understand how the replication and "referral" works. Without studying your scenario, I cannot tell what has failed, but indeed, there are users that have configured Messaging 6.0 against a replica LDAP system.
You may want to open a tech support ticket, and get personal help for your issue.

  • Messaging Server 6.2 Configuration

I've just installed Messaging Server for testing purpose on a Solaris 10 x86 (installed for this test).
    Each time I send a mail from a Client, I have a message :
    '550 5.1.2 <[email protected]>... Host unknown (Name server: mailhost.map.beta.com: host not found).
Here are the explanation of the installations :
I've installed SOLARIS 10 without DNS, the name of the machine is 'wireless'. At the end of the installation of SOLARIS, I've added in etc/hosts the FQDN of my machine which is 'wireless.map.beta.com' in the second column and I made the same thing in etc/inet/ipnodes file. I have checked the 'nsswitch.conf' file and the value for hosts is files.
Afterthat, I've run Java Entreprise Server, and I've choosed 'Directory Server', 'Administration Server', 'Web Server' and 'Access Manager'. I've followed instructions of document '819-2201' to parameter all the applicatiions.
The version of Messaging Server is 6.2 (built Dec 2 2004).
    Could someone help me ?

OK, I see why I need an entry in a DNS for the other
    servers.
But, in my test I only have one server with all the
applications running and I try to send an email in
the same domain where the server is. Actually, you didn't
[email protected] is not equal to "[email protected]"
How did you create the user? what mail address did you use for the user? what value did you use for "mailhost"?
The FQDN of my server is' wireless.map.beta.com' and
I try to send a mail to '[email protected]'.
So, why the server try to contact another server and
not to route the mail internally ?Please see the several questions above, and answer.
Messaging Server uses quite different mechanisms to route mail, depending heavily on what you place in LDAP, and how you configure your server. . .
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I had the same problem, but i didn't get any answer in that forum.
I deinstalled the SAP Software (regard the end of the threat
https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=22036513&messageID=6625975) and then I installed the software again. Then the system ran and i didn't have any more problems with the message server.
I didn't installed the MS Loopback Adapter, because i am connected to a network.
    Best regards,
    Günther Klee
