You don't use your Apple ID or its password to install anything on your Mac. You use the admin account's name and password.
Use the name and password you last entered when resetting them. The "name" you use is not the short name of the admin account folder.
For example. If you create an admin account of John Smith, the short name given to that account's folder will be johnsmith. So when an app requests an admin name and password to install something, the admin name you enter is John Smith, not johnsmith.

  • If i install microsoft office after partitioning my hard drive for windows, will it be available on both sides of the partition?

If i install microsoft office after partitioning my hard drive for windows, will it be available on both sides of the partition? Will it be universal for the computer or would i have to install it on both operating systems? Or, if I install office BEFORE partitioning, will it be available on both platforms after i partition?

If I understand your questions correctly, then I'm inclined to say no. Office for Windows and Office for Mac are two completely different applications. if you run via BootCamp, only one partition will boot.
If you want to run Mac and Windows at the same time, you could do what I did:
    Get Parallels
Install Windows as VM on top of Parallels
    Install Office in Windows
Now, you can run your OS X, jump into Parallels' WIndows and use Office that way.
It needs a lot of RAM, 4 is a bare minimum to realy make it sensible, 8 wouldn't hurt.

  • Help: My dock froze while installing Microsoft office: Mac

I was installing Microsoft Office 2008: Mac when the downloader got stuck at a certain point and the estimated time until finish is only increasing and the download bar is not moving. I tried to open up Firefox while this was happening and this resulted in me Force Quitting firefox and left me with a "Frozen Dock"
How should I handle this situation and should i cancel the download for office because their website says that i am entitled to a new product key since the download did not work.
Note: the microsoft office: mac that i am installing is from a disk, not the internet.

    Theisen,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your post is a little confusing, first you say you were installing MS Office via a downloader and then later you say you are installing it from a Disc. If you installing it via the install disc the you are doing just that, installing not downloading.
Also when doing an installation it's generally not a good idea to be working in other applications as it seems you were by trying to use Firefox.
My recommendation would be to restart your computer and ONLY run the MS Office installation per the instructions MS provides. Do not have any other applications running. If it still fails then contact MS, you should be able to find the number in the documentation you received with the product. After you have installed it then run updates for it to ensure you are on the most up-to-date version which is currently 12.2.4.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • TS1388 I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation process, the MacBook Air tells me that I must quit Safari before the installation can continue. As far as I can tell, Safari is closed but I still get the same me

I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation, the MacBook Air tells me that I must close Safari for the installation to continue. As far as I can tell, Safari IS closed. I can't discover any process that will close it any more than it is now. Installer won't let me shut down or re-start the computer because it (Installer) is still running.
    What am I missing?

The MS installer seems to think Safari is active so try the following...
Right-click on the Safari icon in the Dock and if applicable, select Quit.
    or
Try Utilities > Activity Monitor and look for Safari in the Process Name column.  If present, highlight Safari and then click the Quit Process icon.

Just to be clear, Office 2010 is for Windows.  Office 2011 is for Mac.  If you actually are trying to install Office 2010, you'll need to have installed Windows on your Mac either through Boot Camp or in a virtual machine.

  • Installing Microsoft Office:mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition

I am trying to install Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition.
I don't know how to achieve this.
I have tried the Office Setup Assistant but it says "You can't open the application "Office Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, I assume I have to do the "Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to your hard disk to install all Office components" option.
Being very new to iMac, my question is, "Where exactly do I drag it to?  Which icon along the bottom or should it go somewhere else?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

It will not work with Mountain Lion. You need Office 2011 for OS X.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Does anyone know how I install Microsoft office onto an I Mac or if I even need it.

Does anyone know how I install Microsoft office onto an I Mac or if I even need it.

If you need to write or modify documents made with Word, Excel, or Powerpoint, then you need Office. Otherwise, you don't. If you already have it then installation just involves double-clicking on the Office Installer's icon.

Contact Microsoft support and ask for help.  You've paid for the kit, so installation-time support is part of the expectations.  They'll probably suggest a Repair Permissions and a Verify Disk pass, both performed by booting the installation DVD and using Disk Utility from the Utilities menu item, and selecting those two repairs.

  • Installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011

I have a Macbook Pro 5.3 Boot ROM Version MBP53.00AC.B03 with SMC Version 1.48f2. The computer will not read the software for installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 (Home and Student). An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update. Mac Support said the problem is the Microsoft software. Microsoft said the problem is the Macbook Pro. Does anyone know how to resolve the problem so the Office 2011 can be installed?

An alert blocks installing of the Firmware 1.7 Update
Firmware updates and Office 2011 are unrelated and have nothing to do with each other.
If the firmware won't install, then post your question in the OS X forums.
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=263
If this question is strictly related to the installation of Office, then please post your question on MS' own forums for their Mac software, as Apple Discussions only provide support for Apple products: http://www.officeformac.com/productforums

You can probably get a better response by posting on the windows Compatibility forum here:

We're not uncooperative over here but merely focused on BootCamp.

  • Installing Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2004 (Mac)?

Before I install Microsoft Office 2004-Student and Teacher Edition (Mac), Do I need to Uninstall/Trash the TRIAL Versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage that came with the computer?
*I have not activated the Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive (30 day trial) yet for Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Entourage, which
was already installed on my computer.
Do I need to activate the trial?
or Do I need to just Uninstall/Trash each ot the individual programs I mentioned above, Before I continue, to keep it from messing up the installion?
    Thanks In Advance!!
    Imac G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi FritztheKat (he was a very naughty kitty ,
If you never installed the Test Drive, then simply trash it. Otherwise, you'll need to run the uninstall application and reinstall the full version, or it will eventually time out. If you can't remember if you installed the trial version, then keep it around on an external disk or CD-R/RW. Though as mentioned above, the full version gives you the option of uninstalling both the full and trial versions at once before reinstalling, so you shouldn't need to keep the trial version around. You can always download it again if necessary.
Being at 10.4.6 for Tiger and with all updates installed for Office, there's nothing else to do there.
As far as which apps to use, that's up to you. I use Entourage simply because it came with Office. That's not to say it's a better program by default than OS X's Mail. But I've never used Mail, so can't comment on which has the upper hand.
You already have iChat, so MSN messenger isn't needed. But I just don't do any chatting online, so can't really tell you if one has features the other doesn't.
If you do a lot of work for or with companies and/or PC users in general, then Word is the way to go for word processing. 100% compatibility with the majority of users when sharing documents is a big plus in that catagory.
The Creative Suite will work fine (according to those using it on an Intel based Mac), but it will be rather slow since it has to be run through the Rosetta emulation. As will Office. Both Microsoft and Adobe have hinted that the next release of their products will be Spring of 2007. At which point, they'll be Universal apps, and so native to Intel Macs.
