Installing Motion 2/DVD Studio Pro

I can't seem to run a file called 'part 1' (which I assume is the installing part). it is a UNIX based file but my iMac can't find a program to run it. Can anyone help me?

Are you installing from the Studio Discs (sounds like it since you have an Intel Mac and you need Universal Binary to run it, whicch is only the Studio) There is a main install disc which then "requests" each of the other install discs. You start with that disc
There was some issue awhile back with the installer script working on Intel Macs and some of the security updates in 10.4.7 I think (affected Photoshop and also the Studio for some people). But it does not sound like that is the issue.

After replacing my Prokit.framework with version 4.0.2, all my FCS 2 apps except Final Cut Pro (but Log and Transfer inside FCP 6) stopped crashing but failed to display any interface. But the icons are in the dock.
So finally I cleaned up all the files related to Final Cut Studio 2 and Prokit.framework and did a fresh reinstallation of FCS 2.
Same thing! No interface at all.
At this point, I doubt if the Prokit.framework in Leopard OS disc is different. It's too bad that I'm traveling for a project and my Leopard DVD is not in hand. So I asked a friend using Pacifist to extract Prokit.framework and Browser.framework from his Leopard DVD and sent them over. Now I found that they are indeed different. The one from Leopard is version 4.1. I did a replace again. Now, Motion 3, DVD Studio Pro 3 and Compressor start up, but with black windows and a few images, and the menu bars are really weird. I guess I should install this two framework with Pacifist instead of replacing them with the extracted folders?
The last resort I guess is to reinstall Leopard? My dilemma if I don't finish my project, I have no access to my OS DVD, but I need to use FCS 2 to finish the project.
Has anyone run into the same situation? Any enlightenment will be appreciated!

I have just installed Leopard ans having problems with DDVDSPRO crasshing, can you please expand on how i may install prokit.framework and Browerkit frame work with Pacifist. I am not an expert please bear in mind!!

Sending a template design in motion to DVD studio pro

Creating a menu and overlay from Motion to DVD Studio Pro

I have created a menu in Motion. My menu plays a short video first before the menu choices come up. After sending it to DVD Studio Pro I noticed that when I burned it I could not access the menu options with my DVD player, only when I played it on my computer and used a mouse.
I tried creating an overlay and using that, but because my buttons do not display right away I am seeing one of the overlay icons right from the beginning.
If there is anyone out there with a suggestions on how I can fix this or create it differently so that I don't have these problems, please let me know!!!

Installed Leopard and DVD Studio Pro Problems

Just installed Leopard 10.5.6 Box Set and Compressor and DVD Studio Pro will not work properly.
DVD Studio Pro 4 will open a past dvd and when go to burn it shuts down. I also cannot export out to compressor from FCP 5. I already tried the http://support.apple.com/kb/TA47672?viewlocale=en_US
link and it didn't work for either. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Just did an upgrade install. No erase and install which I'm sure is the best way. I just got off the phone with apple and also found this on apple's site.
Issue or symptom
Compressor/Apple Qmaster versions 2.3 and earlier and version 3.0 are not supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.
Solution
Compressor and Apple Qmaster 2.3.1 and later or version 3.0.1 or later are supported on Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Use Software Update to ensure you have the latest updates.
I couldn't do it even if I wanted to. Time to move on to Intel or FCP 2. Thanks for responding.

Unable to open FCP, Motion, Compressor, DVD Studio Pro

Hey,
Since this morning I've been unable to open any of the FCP studio apps. It immediately goes to The application quit unexpectedly. Any ideas what's going on?

I'd suggest you need to perform an erase and install of your OS, update it all the way, then reinstall all software over that new OS... sounds to me like you have a bad installation.
Tiger or leopard should run just fine...
Backup everything you want to keep first as this would erase your startup disk... docs etc...

Cant install all fo dvd studio pro....plz help

I cant install the full program only the windows, but none of the templates or transitions ro anything, I cant do anything in the program. When i go to install the templates it says i dont have the required hardware or my computer doesnt soppurt the installation method. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks in advance.

Since you meet the spec I'd think about something regarding the OS.
check for updates; in particular I think there was a firmware update.
Fix Disk Permissions-good habit
Move the DVDSp plist to the desktop, restart DVDSP (from the application, not a project).
check the Library/Application Support/DVDSP folder. This is where the templates need to reside. If they are there then DVDSP, the application, has lost this information. If they are not there then the install process has not worked completely.
Create another user on this machine with similar privilges. If this user is successful then there is some (?) bogus user prefeences. Not sure what to look for but a combination of bad preferences might be suspect.

Aperture and other Pro Applications ( Final Cut, Motion, DVD Studio Pro )

Hi folks,
I have bought Final Cut Studio a while back, and have been working with all the tools for a while now ( FCP, Motion and DVD Studio Pro ). Recently I also switched to Aperture to manage / capture / organise my digital photographs ( previously I used iPhoto ).
Now I was wondering how I could use the pictures from my Aperture library in Motion or DVD Studio Pro. When I look at the file Browser, I can easily use some iPhoto pictures, but apparently I can't seem to find anything for Aperture.
What I would like to do is use some pictures from Aperture in a Motion project and also include an Aperture album in DVD Studio as a SlideShow.
What would be the best way to do this ? Do I have to export the pictures I want to use ? Or am I missing something ?

Unfortunately, that type of integration between the Pro Apps is not there (yet). It would definitely be a nice feature to have. We should all send feedback to Apple asking for this feature. For now, you will need to export photos for use in these other apps.
Along the same lines, I would also like to see integration with Aperture and the "iLife" programs. Since Aperture will likely replace iPhoto for at least some of us, it would be nice to be able to use Aperture photos in these apps as well.

Dvd studio pro 4 and motion

I have to create corporate dvd and the want really fancy things. For example..on a menu they want the link buttons..to fly in from the left..then when a link is selected..they want the links to fly out to the left..then have the menu jump.. someone said i could create it in motion..but im havin trouble incorporating motion with dvd studio pro..from saving to exporting to importing in dvd studio pro can anyone help me?..and suggestiong to other resources as well..?

Hi:
You can just use the Motion project itself in DVDSP with no exporting at all, with the advantage that when updating the project you'll see the changes in DVDSP automatically. But your animations could run slow because DVDSP uses AFAIK the Motion engine to render the Motion project.
Another option is exporting your Motion project as Animation and use that file in DVDSP to keep the most of the quality.

I have a recently installed copy of DVD Studio Pro 4.1.1. Whenever I import an asset of an mv2 file it crashes. I updated my permissions but can't think why it would crash. Any ideas?

I note this information from Wikipedia: "DVD Studio Pro was a high-end software tool published by Apple Inc. to allow users to create DVD masters to be sent out for replication at production houses. Its tight integration with other Apple applications allows users to take Final Cut Pro and Motion projects and render them into the DVD format without encoding to intermediary formats. This streamlines the production workflow and reduces overhead."
If that is your intent, finding a substitute program that will run on your Mac may not be as efficient. Others can advise you on alternatives, or you can post a new thread specifically with that question.
BTW: what Mac and what version of OS X?
If it is important to you to continue to use DVD Studio Pro, consider the option of installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels on your Mac:

DVD Studio Pro and Motion won't work

I posted this in the Tiger forum and didn't get a solution so I'm trying here.
After installing Tiger DVD Studio Pro and Motion quit working.
Both applications open (in the menu bar at least), but neither one will open all of its windows and nothing happens when I click on anything in the windows that do open. Nothing's frozen (the menus still respond), but there are no windows to work in.
I booted into Panther from my Backup drive and DVD SP works, but Motion won't even startup.
I'm hurtin' here. Can anyone help?
I'm using DVD SP v2.0.5 and Motion v1.0.1 on a Dual 1.42 PowerPC G4 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM and an ATI RADEON 9600 Mac Edition video card.

How can I reinstall Motion/DVD Studio Pro using my new serial no.

I used to have my office copy of Motion on my computer. Now that I got my own I want to reinstall it. But whenever I did that I still have the same Motion/DVD Studio Pro as was installed with the older serial no.
How can I get rip of this old serial no so I can use my new serial no?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Corrupted Motion projects in DVD Studio Pro

Hi.
I have just installed Final Cut Studio 2. I have opened a project I've been working on with previous version ( a DVD Studio Pro project with Motion files loaded ) and I have found that all my Motion projects appears with all the layers desplaced or just corrupted. Any solution to this? I still feel that Apple is treating us like "betatesters" instead of profesionals. Hope that some day I take something from them out of the box and it works as expected ( from the beggining, not many monthes later )...

Exporting the Motion project as animation will be easier and without quality loss. You can use that moie in DVDSP or to Compressor to encode to mpeg-2.
