Installing Multiple Versions of JDK on same XP Pro Machine

I have a situation where I have 2 vendors who have software that needs to run under 2 different versions of Java. One of them requires 1.3.1_05 and the other 1.4.x. Is this possible? I have tried to run the software that requires 1.3.1_05 under 1.4 and failed. After talking with the vendor, they said ONLY 1.3.1_05... However, the other piece of software absolutely requires 1.4. It works only under that version and I tried testing it with lower versions and sure enough.
Why won't the software that requires 1.3.1_05 run under 1.4? This does not add up! Need help fast, this is commodity trading software.

I am having a similar issue on W2K SP4 boxes.
Qwest's provisioning system runs through Netscape 4.79 and requires Java 1.3.0
SBC's provisiong system runs through IE 6 and requires Java 1.4
As soon as I install Java 1.4, Netscape fails to recognize that 1.3 is installed. Reinstalling 1.3 doesn't help.
I need both of these systems to run on the same machine and am guessing there is a registry setting I can adjust.
I've read where some people have used a batch script or VB to change some parameters to allow multiple versions of Java to run on the same machine. Even if a user had to click a batch file before opening Netscape to switch the version setting in the registry that would suit my needs.
Any help would be most appreciated!!!
Thanks

How do I install 4.0 without overwriting my current version 3.6.16? I would like both versions for testing purposes.

During the install process, there is a point where you can do a custom install. Use that dialog to specify the directory you want to install Fx4. You may also want to create a unique profile. Read here [[http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles]] to do that.

You would need separate machines with Windows and the Safari version you were trying to test installed, or separate, bootable partitions with different versions of Safari on each partition.

  • Managing Multiple Versions of LabVIEW on same Computer

With a new version of LabVIEW coming out every year, and service packs every 6 months, what is the best way of keeping different versions of LabVIEW (8.6, 2009, 2010 SP1) on the same computer, without being effected by new installations?
I have read up on some people using virtual machines to do this. From past experience with virtual machines, I remember only being able to
use a single monitor with the VM. However, it is very helpful to have 2 monitors when programming; are there VMs that can run in 2 monitors (just like
    a normal OS?)
    Thanks for the input.

    LV 6.1, 8.6.1, 2011 SP1, 2012 SP1

    Hi Jim,
I have installed multiple versions of LabVIEW on the same PC.  When doing upgrades, such as a service pack, it does not affect other installed versions.  This was done as a regular install in the OS, not using Virtual Machines.
I have been doing this since 2001, and for some customers, they have versions ranging from 6.1 to 2009.  Only in one recent situation has there been an unusual event with multiple parallel installations.  It was due to a DAQmx driver installation (long story).
Overlaping drivers should not be an issue.  The issue with the DAQmx driver was that I forced to revert a LV8.2 driver by cheating on the installation.  It worked for 8.2 but screwed up something in 2010.  That was because I did not install the DAQmx drivers the way they were supposed to be installed.

  • Installing multiple versions of Flash Player

I am running Windows 7 x64, and curently have Google Chrome running in addition to IE 8.  Has anyone installed multiple versions of Flash Player to support both browsers...IE and Chrome?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are two Flash Player versions; one is the ActiveX for Internet Explorer, and the other one is the plugin for all other browsers, e.g. Firefox, Chrome, etc.
Just go to the FP download page with each browser type, then do the install. IE will install the ActiveX, the other browser will install the plugin. (Once you install the plugin, it will work for all non-IE browsers.)

  • Installing multiple versions of Captivate

Can you install multiple versions of Captivate on a single machine?  I would like to install an earlier version of Captivate on my machine along with my latest version.  Can this be accomplished? If so do you have any tips or tricks that might help this go smoothly.

Absolutely. I have Captivate 5.5, 6.0.1.240 and 7.0.1.237 all running on my system without any issues.
If you plan to keep all of them open simultaneously, just make sure your system can handle it. Captivate is a RAM-hungry application.

  • Multiple versions of PSE on same computer.

Can multiple versions of PSE be installed and used on one computer, e.g. PSE5, PSE8, PSE11, and PSE 13.  Will there be conflict or other kinds of problems?  Are the different versions in any way connected or are they each entirely stand alone with "touching" each other?  Or, another way of putting this is, do I have to uninstall prior versions of PSE before installing a newer version on the same computer?  Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Is this true of the organizer as well as the editor?  If files are stored in the organizer of one version, are they readily accessible for editing in another version?
That has nothing to do with several versions. Files are NOT stored in the organizer. They are somewhere on your drive(s). If you have a single Elements version and several catalogs pointing to the same files on your drive(s), each catalog will be able to access the same files... until you move, rename or delete them from another catalog.

  • Installing multiple Oracle intellgent agents on same server

I am going to use Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) on HP UNIX 11i (11.23). We will setting up development, qa and failover enviornment on the same server. There will be a separate server for production.
Is it possible to install multiple insances of Grid Control including intelligent agent on the same server. We will be using different UNIX logins for different enviornments. We can also use different ports (tcp/ip) if necessary.

One of the things that is confusing me - you say you will be installing Oracle 10.2.0.4 ... that describes both the Grid control version and the Database version, so I have absolutely no idea which product you are installing.
If your question is entirely about Grid Control, you might ask in the Grid Control forums.

  • Installing 2 version of Logic on same computer?

I'm on location on a remote island in the North Atlantic.  I have Logic Studio 8 installed on my personal laptop.  All the other computers (Mac Pro's) in the studio here are on Logic Studio 9.  I want to use my own laptop coz I have Omnisphere, RMX, etc., which we will need for this project.
I am ordering an upgrade to Studio 9 from Apple, but it will be weeks before it arrives via the local post.  Even FEDEX is super slow out here.
The outfit here has at least 6 authorized versions of Logic Studio 9, some of which haven't been installed yet.
I'd like to just install one of their versions, BUT KEEP MY OWN VERSION 8 ALSO INSTALLED for when my upgrade arrives.  Once my upgrade arrives I'll strip out their version ... or is there a way just to change the registration numbers and not have to re-install the whole setup again?  (I don't think so, but it would be cool.)
Any advice would be most appreciated?
Mainly what I'm concerned about is: if I install version 9, will I have any conflicts if I leave version 8 also installed?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
in general, installing Logic Pro 9 keeps Logic Pro 8 (and just in case, you can also just copy the current Logic version in the applications folder). Maybe there could be an issue with the receipts bundle, which is used to check if a new version needs to be installed. So despite deleting the Logic Pro 9 app, when yours arrive, you may probably also need to deleted to receipt and maybe the preferences settings, before you install your version.
I think that it should not be an issue, but nevertheless I recommend to make a backup of your drive just in case anything goes wrong. Over here, I have multiple different versions of Logic installed and can switch without much of a problem.
    Cheers
    Tom

  • Viability of developing multiple versions of SSIS on same system.

    What is the
viability of developing different SSIS version jobs on the same machine (Windows 7 / 64-bit).  We currently have hundreds of versioned SQL Server 2008 SSIS packages and are wanting to
begin migrating them to SQL Server 2014.  In addition to the packages themselves, custom tasks are implemented.  I understand that a new system configured for SQL Server 2014 only would resolve the issue, but as we have many
developer machines and environmental servers, that is not an easy option to initiate.
I started on my local machine with SQL Server 2008 installed with no SSIS developmental issues.  After installing SQL Server 2014 (most components), developing SSIS in the new version encountered
no issues as well, however, code development within SSIS 2008 script task and script component exhibited reference related issues; Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime in particular. The exact error describes a condition where Runtime does not have any public members.
The Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications (VSTA) environment appears to function properly, but it is as if the references / templates are for SQL Server 2014.
The strange thing is that we could still modify VB.NET script task code (with reference errors), but not C# and no script components at all.
After uninstalling SQL Server 2014 except for Integration services and the Client Tools SDK, the impact issues to SSIS 2008 script coding appear to be resolved.

Arthur, thanks for the quick response and that is good to hear; I "somewhat" was hoping for this opinion after visiting a few Microsoft sites.  In my prior post, I should have clarified my situation more clearly in that while our existing
2008 packages / projects will need to be migrated to 2014, there is no hard cut-over date.  While proof-of-concept is occurring, continuing development / maintenance using SSIS 2008 will occur.  Once all required steps for conversions and risks are
known, then true migration will begin in piece-wise fashion (by subject area).
I should also have stipulated that it appears that the SQL Server 2014 Client Tools SDK  is the root of this SSIS 2008 issue.  With only 2014 Integration services additionally installed, no strange SSIS 2008 coding issues in VSTA (references /
templates), however after installing SQL Server 2014 Client Tools SDK, they appear.  I thought I could remedy this issue by resetting component order within the [path] environment variable, but to no avail.  I cannot determine why I am unable to
get around this issue when in theory, I should; very frustrating as I believe the 2014 SDK is a required component for 2014 development.

  • Installing multiple versions of xcelsius....?

    Hi Folks,
    For example,
    1. Is it possible at all to install xcelsius 2008 sp3 and xcelsius 2008 sp5 on the same box?
    2. Is it recommended to install xcelsius 2008 sp3 and xcelsius 2008 sp5 on the same box? If not, any known issues that i may face.
There is an urgent need for me to install both versions on the same box.
Lastly, if anyone has tried doing this, pls post your experience.
    Thanks in advance!
    Deepu.

    Hi Arijit,
It is also not recommended to have xcelsius 2008 and Dashboards 4.0 on same system.
I saw an issue where these were installed on same system and we got some error related to keydecoder.dll
Well it might works sometimes. I have seen people do it. But really not recommended.
@deepu : install the dashboards of same version as that of your BusinessObjects enterprise.

    Abhilasha
