Installing multiple versions of Visual Studio

All the developers at our company need Visual Studio 2008, 2010, and 2012.  I'm looking for the best way to install them.  We just a default install so I'm fine with just running setup.exe /q for each one.  If I create an Application for each
one with just that command line, with the Task Sequence wait for one to finish before doing the next or how does that work?
Ideally I'd just have one Install Application step (or 3 in a row) that would just fire off 2008, then 2010, and then 2012 and then continue on.
Side note: is there any benefit to having one Install Applications task with all my applications listed versus having one step for each application?
Thanks!

It's not supported (although done by many companies) to use task sequences for non-OSD stuff.
Why not creating 3 applications and deploying them either individually or using dependencies?
Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
I'm talking about having it install these as part of the OSD Task Sequence.  Not something to be done after the fact.  We plan to have a regular Task Sequence and a Developer Task Sequence that installs all the extra stuff they need right up front...

  • Cannot install latest version of Visual studio

    Hello,
I'm trying to install visual studio. So I've downloaded the .exe file on this location: https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/products/free-developer-offers-vs.aspx
When I open the .exe file I get this error message: Setup detected an issue during the operation. Please click below to check for a solution and help us to improve the setup experience.
Can anyone help me with this.
    Kind regards,
    Stef

    Hello Stef,
There are many possible reasons, so as pvdg42's answer showed, we need more details from you to troubleshoot this issue.
For example, one possible reason is on the following thread:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/ca327a20-3b46-4cf9-a2e1-66891a68eaf2/setup-detected-an-issue-during-the-operation?forum=vssetup
Your system may missed something that is the dependency of the Visual Studio Setup.
So please follow pvdg42's answer to share us more details. And you can also follow the following blog:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2899270?wa=wsignin1.0
If you can find any error info from your installation logs yourself.
    Best regards,

  • Crystal Reports Version for Visual Studio 2010 Fails to Install

    Hi -
I am trying to install the CR redistribution package for .Net 4.  When I run CRRuntime_32bit_13_0.msi I get an Error 1904 when it tries to register the commonobjmodel.dll.  If I manually register the dll using regsvr32 I get the following message:
"The module 'commonobjmodel.dll' failed to load.  Make sure the binary is stored
at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files."
The dll does exist and is in the correct directory.  Is there another installer I should be using?
    Thanks.
    - Andrew

Entering "1904 crystal" into the search box at the top right corner of this page, gives the following KB:

  • SQL Server 2008 R2: which version of Visual Studio do I need to keep database projects and SSIS projects in the same solution

I need to build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008R2.  Apparently, the subset of Visual Studio tools that comes with SQL Server 2008R2 does not include database projects and does not have
Team Foundation Server support.  Because of those limitations, I am trying to determine which version of Visual Studio will allow me to:
    1. Build a single solution that includes both a database project and an Integration Services project
    2. For the database project, be able to import a database schema from an existing SQL Server 2008 R2 database, do schema compares and update the project from the database and vice versa
    3. For the Integration Services project, be able to deploy the packages to SQL Server Integration Services on SQL Server 2008 R2 (that is, to the msdb database).
    4. Use Team Foundation Server for source control of the whole solution, including both project types.

    Hi G Britton,
To build a solution containing a database project and an integration services project for SQL Server 2008 R2 and use Team Foundation Server for source control.
You can choose to install Visual Studio 2008.
And as you want to utilize Schema compare and/or Data compare functionalities in Visual Studio, you will need to install the
Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition or Visual Studio Team System 2008 Team Suite.
In addition, for Visual Studio issues, I would like to recommend you post the question in the
    Visual
Studio forums to get better support.

  • Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010 Problem

    Dear all,
I encounter a problem after installed the crystal report version for Visual Studio 2010. Once I call
                           ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter(1,False, 0, 0)
    The error message prompt:
Report is unavailable(Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name:index)
    If I try
                             ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter(1,False, 1, 1)
It can print the 1st page of the report.
I also try to create a simple report. It works.
After installed this version, my reports also encounter the same problem in Visual Studio 2008.
My report has sub-reports. My PC is Windows XP.
Anybody has idea on this issue!?

Now you can set the various printer options using the PrintOutputController. I'm using a UI box to select the printer but your developer should be able to figure this out. If not you can include him in the e-mail, it would be fine to go direct. Of course you will stay in the thread:
         private void btnSetPrinter_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
              System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument pDoc = new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument();
                CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptions rasPROpts = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptionsClass();
// Use the next line if you need to, you'll ahve to test. Depends on how the reports were saved.
                //CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.PrintOptions.DissociatePageSizeAndPrinterPaperSize = true;
                //CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.ISCRPrintOptions.DissociatePageSizeAndPrinterPaperSize = true;

  • What version of Visual Studio should I use to build the samples in the CS5 plug-in SDK?

I just downloaded the plug-in SDK for CS5.  I tried to build two of them in Visual Studio 2012.  VS2012 had to convert them for me.  The first one, 3DHeightField, failed abysmally, as it tried to redefine standard library keywords for no reason I'll ever understand.  It told me to enable warning CS4005 to find the illegal #define statement, but I don't know how to enable warnings, only how to disable them.
The second I tried, Dissolve, failed because the compiler could not find afxres.h.
What is the recommended way to build these projects?  And, if possible, could someone please point me to a sample filter plug-in project that will build in Visual Studio 2012 without having to be converted from some older version of Visual Studio?
    Thank you very much.
    RobR

You can build these with Visual Studio 2012.  You just need to add the following preprocessor definition to your project.
    _ALLOW_KEYWORD_MACROS
If adding it to your project doesn't work, you can also #define it in a source or header file that gets read early in the chain.

  • Installing multiple versions of Flash Player

I am running Windows 7 x64, and curently have Google Chrome running in addition to IE 8.  Has anyone installed multiple versions of Flash Player to support both browsers...IE and Chrome?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there are two Flash Player versions; one is the ActiveX for Internet Explorer, and the other one is the plugin for all other browsers, e.g. Firefox, Chrome, etc.
Just go to the FP download page with each browser type, then do the install. IE will install the ActiveX, the other browser will install the plugin. (Once you install the plugin, it will work for all non-IE browsers.)

  • What version of Visual Studio should I upgrade to?

I am using Visual Studio 10 Professional in my Company. There are only two people using it but our WPF application is vast and we also have WCF services. The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2.
What version of Visual Studio should I upgrade to?
    Thanks.

Visual studio 2013 pro would mean upgrading your solution but is the current version.
    2015 is on the way.
Check the os requirements if you think you should maybe hang on for that.
I think 2015 ctp is still available to trial.

    Hello all!
I was wondering what versions of Visual Studio can use Microsoft Test Manager, a friend is having issue using MTM and can't get it working. She doesn't know if it's a product key issue or if it's the version of Visual Studio she's using, She is using Visual

    Hi machopper,
Thank you for posting in MSND forum.
Based on your issue, as far as I know that the Visual Studio Ultimate, Visual Studio Premium, Test Professional include MTM.

  • Install multiple versions

Is it possible to install multiple versions of Safari for Windows at the same time?

You would need separate machines with Windows and the Safari version you were trying to test installed, or separate, bootable partitions with different versions of Safari on each partition.

  • Installing multiple versions of Captivate

Can you install multiple versions of Captivate on a single machine?  I would like to install an earlier version of Captivate on my machine along with my latest version.  Can this be accomplished? If so do you have any tips or tricks that might help this go smoothly.

Absolutely. I have Captivate 5.5, 6.0.1.240 and 7.0.1.237 all running on my system without any issues.
If you plan to keep all of them open simultaneously, just make sure your system can handle it. Captivate is a RAM-hungry application.

    Hey,
I'm learning C#, using a book called "Learning C# by programming games". (2013)
It comes with a zip file containing samples to use in Visual Studio.
(I use Visual Studio Express 2013)
However, opening the .CSPROJ files in the sample folder provided by the book's website results in the error mentioned in the title of this ticket.
I would very much appreciate anyone taking the time to try and help me out.
    Thanks a bunch in advance,
    Erinn

    Hi Erinn,
Could it have anything to do with the fact that the book uses XNA (and the sample projects were created with VS and XNA) and I use MonoGame with VS (since I my computer runs on windows 8,1)?
Yes, that's definitely the problem (I don't know about writing games, but I Googled "MonoGame vs XNA"). First result returned by that search is informative (although it doesn't tell you how to get around the problem):
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21658493/is-monogame-just-xna
I know that doesn't help you, but it tells you that it's a common issue and if no one here can help, maybe some more Googling might turn up something. Actually, after some more Googling, this looks useful:
