  • Have a G4 software 9.2 trying to install Nano Software

Just got a Nano and the cd that comes with the box is not working. Can not install software. Already have iTunes in computer and when I connect my Nano does not show on computer or iTunes. Please Help. Thank you.

Don't bother trying to install the software that comes on the disk. Think of it as a backup. It's really only there for people who don't have internet connections.
Download the latest version of iTunes here and install that.
If that isn't enough to help you see your nano, then check out this page
    Hope it helps.

  • Necessary to install Nano software?

I've been using an old 10G iPod with my iMac G5 and WinXP SP2 boxes. I didn't find the CD until after I tried out the new Nano.
Both boxes immediately recognized the Nano and seem to work flawlessly with it so far.
What's on that CD that I might be missing?

Thanks. It's not just laziness - I've had more than enough trouble, especially with the PeeCee, from shovelware buildup but I was concerned that I might be missing some new capability.
I'll install it on just one of my Macs in case there's a firmware update or something.

  • Error when installing ipod nano software

When I try to load the software for my ipod nano I receive the following error
1601:unable to install installshield scripting runtime

OMG! You could sub-title this: "Why Windows Blows" ... I bought a new iPod for my wife - I have to install the sw on the loser windows box because she uses that box.
The iPod (cd) and/or the iTunes (apple.com download) install blows up either under my admin/unrestricted account, or as her limited-user account with the errors described above. I've followed all the links, etc., and jumped through all the hoops but I still get the %#$! 1607 error.
When I try, as a windows "super-user" <snort> to reset the perms on the windows/Installer directory, it gives me the appearance of allowing me to uncheck the box and take the directory out of read-only more, but it doesn't actually reset the directory permissions.
Since windows isn't smart enough to have an equivalent of a chmod 775 command....it looks like we're hosed.
I'm subscribing to the thread in the hopes that someone can actually figure out how to install this software on Windows successfully....until then, I guess she'll have to manage her iPod on my one of my Macs if it will support multiple iPods....
Hey ... Apple - how about itunes/ipod support for linux?
Sigh...frustrated beyond belief; I feel so unclean every time I have to use a windows system...

  • HELP Pls! bought ipod nano a week ago, still can't install the software

    tried the installation CD, didn't work;
    tried to download newest software Ipod+itune; didn't work;
the installation process seems ok, but can't run itune after restart the computer. Please help!

I called Apple support yesterday and they walked me through a solution. I'll post it on here with the warning that I'm no computer whiz and you might be better off calling Apple tech support yourselves. But for what it's worth, here is what they had me do (I use Windows XP).
First make sure you've uninstalled any of the remnants of the iPod and iTunes programs (mine installed incorrectly so I had to do this). Control Panel--> Add/Remove Programs --> scroll down and uninstall (if they are there) iPod and iTunes. After that go to My Computer -> Local Drive (C:) -> Program Files -> delete any iPod and iTunes folders if they are there.
Restart the computer to complete the uninstall. Then go online, apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    Download quicktime to your desktop.
    Then go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Download iTunes to your desktop
    Finally go to http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Scroll to the bottom of that page where you have the 3 fields (enter your name and email addy) and download iPod to your desktop.
Then run each of these programs in the order that you've downloaded them. Then restart your computer.
Double-click on the new iTunes program icon, the program should run ok. I chose to manually transfer as opposed to automatically transfer songs to my iPod but that's up to you. You should see your music files (if you had others on your computer) under the Library folder in iTunes.
Then plug in your iPod, and iPod icon should pop up on the left-hand side of the iTunes program screen. If not (I had a problem with this, my iPod icon would say 'corrupted files') close iTunes, open the iPod program (you can do this through your Start menu, I think the program is called iPod Updater 2006-03-23 or something) and click to restore your iPod. It will warn you that you'll lose any previous files on your iPod, that is ok.
Then open iTunes again. When your iPod is plugged in you should see a "do not disconnect" message on your iPod screen. To transfer files onto your iPod (if you have it set on manual like I do) just drag files from your library onto the iPod icon on the left hand side of the iTunes program. When you are finished, the top of the program screen should say somethign like 'update complete' (this might take a bit for all the files to transfer). Next to the iPod icon (left-hand side of the iTunes program) is a little 'eject' symbol - click that before unplugging your iPod. When your iPod screen is on the main menu and does -not- read 'do not disconnect' then you can disconnect it from your computer.
This took care of the problem for me -- apparently b/c of various Windows antivirus programs, trying to install the software off the CD creates conflicts, and installing quicktime and the other stuff separately takes care of the conflict.
Hope this might be of some assistance.

  • Cannot install Creative software in Vi

VISTA (Home Premium 32-bit) has detected my Nano Plus (which has the latest firmware) and installed the nati've drivers. It shows up in device manager and is detected by WMP . When I try and install either CMS5 or Media Explorer neither of the installation programs will proceed after they tell me that they cannot detect any supported devices. I have run the installation software as an administrator and in XP SP2 compatibility mode but I still cannot get past the hardware detection problem. Any ideas?
As it stands now I cannot use either of my Creative MP3 players on my new PC in VISTA as in addition to the above problem Creative has determined that my fully-functional Jukebox 3 has reached the "End of Service Life".Message Edited by AbuAdam on 04-26-200708:0 AM

I think you misunderstood my question oozish. From what I have read of the YouP-PAX software suite it is a bunch of apps for the X-Fi sound card. I do have an X-Fi card and will be looking at YouP-PAX later but what I am trying to do right now is install Creative Media Source Player/Organizer for my Nano Plus MP3 player. I have downloaded the latest version 5.0.38 which I found on the Creative site after searching for Nano Plus downloads and VISTA OS. The problem with installing this software and the "Creative Media Explorer 6.00.04 Software Pack for ZEN Nano Series players" is that the installers stop and tell me that they cannot find any supported Creative hardware installed. Since I already have the Nano Plus installed and detected by VISTA and Windows Media Player I am at a loss to find a way to get the two creative apps installed.
Anyone got these apps installed who can help me?

  • Zen Nano Software CD - Is It Necessary on

Must I install the software if I just drag and drop using XP? What functionality is lost, if any, by not installing the software?
    Thanks

I would probably install "zen nano explorer", which will rip or convert tracks for you. You do not need this specific functionality, but it also includes a feature that will let you order tracks within a folder (which you can also set up in this software or elsewhere) and then rename them to begin with a new track number in the filename (leaves the tag alone since the Nano only uses the song title of the tag). This is a useful program to create a sort of "playlist" of tracks in a specific order without doing a lot of convoluted stuff yourself in renaming filenames (which is how the Nano sorts tracks).

  • IPod nano software + windows 7

Recently I got a new laptop which has windows 7 on it. When I installed iTunes on it, it worked fine but then when I installed the software to connect my first generation iPod nano to my computer I started having problems.
After installation when I open iTunes a message comes up saying "Software required for communicating with iPods not installed correctly. Do you want to repair iTunes?"
After it does the repair iTunes will open but when I connect my iPod another message saying "Software required for communicating with iPod not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPods software."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the software countless times and it still doesn't work. I have also gone back and made sure all parts of iTunes such as Bonjour were uninstalled as well. Nothing seems to work. Recently I also reinstalled iTunes and my iPod software on another computer and it worked fine. The only difference was my other computer was windows xp.
    Help?

    UPDATE:
While the iPod Nano would not even turn on in the two computers I tried earlier at home (and posted above about), when I plugged it in on my work computer (PC, Windows 7), the iPod Nano turned on fine as a brand new set up on this computer's iTunes and now it is working.
Very strange that it would crap out at home every time even though I changed the drive letter and followed all the other instructions.
I have to yet check if I can sync at home or not or if it will ask me to restore again!

  • Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software

Can't burn blank CD after installing ipod software - I have the system prefs set to launch Toast 6 when inserting a blank disk, and the drive just churns and then ejects the CD. It mounts and runs burned music and data disks with no problem.
My job requires me to burn data disks from pictures I take at work. Should I re-install Toast? The OS? I ran Disk Utility to check/fix permissions, and no change.

The CD that came with the nano won't have anything on it that you won't get with a full iTunes install. In fact, it may have been an OLDER version of the iTunes software than what you had installed before.
I'd reccomend downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple and installing that to rule out software reversion issues.
If the problem still exists, try booting into toast before inserting the blank disk and see if Toast can still burn to the CD. If it can, then odds are you have to re-instruct your computer to boot toast when a blank CD is inserted. If it can't see the blank CD, or the Finder spits it out again, then I think you'd have to re-install Toast.

  • Updated Nano software - Library "grayed out"

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help. I have a shuffle and nano and have had no trouble to date synching with my windows xp itunes.
Tonite I installed the latest version of the nano software (1.10.2006), and now when I double click the nano icon in itunes, all of the songs and playlists are grayed out. I can update the ipod, but can't click on anything within the list. For example, if I wanted to delete a song on the nano, I can no longer do it.
    Any thoughts?
