Installing new add-ons

Firefox wasn't loading webpages properly I tried restarting Firefox then I restarted the computer neither worked. Then I reset Firefox, which solved my issues. Everything transferred over nicely but I had to re download all my add-on's. There was no troubles there either. However when I wanted to add more search engines to the search bar it give me this message "Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a search plugin." I copies my old search engines over but I can't add any new ones.

  • I have updated firefox to version 6.0. The add-on galley does not recognize it and I am unable to upgrade and install most add-ons.

When tying to install new add-ons, a text appears that there is no support for firefox 3.0.7, assuming I am running that version instead of the recent 6.0. The stating mozilla/google webpage has a text saying that firefox is not up to date. After downloading and installing version 6.0, the text continues to appear in the homepage and add-ons are cannot be installed.

  • How to determine which new add-ons were installed?

I am troubleshooting on a system that I use regularly, but I am not the primary user. When I started Firefox today I got an Add-ons window saying that "3 new add-ons have been installed". I'd like to know which 3 are the newly installed add-ons, because I suspect they are things my mother agreed to inadvertently. This system now has 15 Extensions, 1 Theme, and 17 Plugins installed, including the 3 new ones. Is there any way for me to determine which 3 are the new ones? By the way, I'm not entering this question from the system inquestion, so any info of that type that gets appended to this submission should be ignored. The system in question is running Windows XP Home SP3 and Firefox 3.6.10.

  • I can't install any add-ons in muse

I can't install any add-ons in muse or download the .mulib file to install it manually. Please, help. Also, it's pointless to download the .zxp file since Adobe Extension Manager does not support Muse. Any advice?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Every tab starts with a sentence (in Dutch, so I don't know the exact phrase in English):
Another program on your computer wants to adjust FireFox with the following add-on:
I even unchecked "Compatibility check" and tried the add-on "Compatibility reporter" to overrule the checks.

Also, please also try deleting the files named '''extensions.*''' in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder Firefox Profile Folder] after exiting Firefox. You can also open the profile folder through Firefox '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Troubleshooting Information''' > '''Open Containing Folder''' and exit Firefox. After restarting Firefox may ask you again, if so choose '''Allow''' and '''Continue''' in every tab but click '''Restart''' only in the last tab.
If the problem persists you can try creating [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles?s=profile&r=0&e=sph&as=s new profile] and later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information?s=backup&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy] needed files like '''places.sqlite''' which holds the bookmarks and history, '''key3.db''' + '''signons.sqlite''' which stores the passwords etc. from the old profile and also install the add-ons. • I downloaded the new firefox 9.0.1 but now i cant download and install new add-0ns and themes??

When you download themes or extensies it says add to Firefox or its not available for Firefox 3.5.5. Now the strange thing is that when i want to install the add-ons/themes i downloaded it gives the message doesnt supp Firefox 9.0.1 but when i try to download add-ons compatable to FF9.0.1 it gives the message not avalible for FF3.5.5 and when i try to download it it says cant download this add requires 9.0.1. you are currently using FF3.5.5 pls upgrade FF so the probleme is that my browser is FF9.0.1 but mozilla still thinks its FF3.5.5 so cant download what i need ant cant install what i can download?? Can somboddy help me pls??

Your useragent shows you are running Firefox 3.5.5. To fix do the following:
    * Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
    * If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.
    * Filter = general.useragent.
    * Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset.
    * Then restart Firefox

  • No new add ons are installing, they say installed but do not show up in add ons

i installed adblock plus, block site, and something to open a new tab to homepage. they all SAY they are installed and restart firefox at the end of the installation. yet this has no effects, i see add ons, have no way to use block site at all, and my new tabs still dont open to homepage. so i went to tools>add-ons and none of the add ons installed even show up. just what was already there
i dont know if this has something to do with conduit. i worked like 2 hours to get rid of it, deleting it from hkey registry, running a full scan with eset smart security 6, deleting all my cookies, my history, clearing everything in about:config many many times. still when i open a new tab it is in search:conduit even after disabling every single add on many of which have absolutely nothing to do with conduit. yet when i run firefox with ad ons disabled it goes away and new tabs open to the rectangles where you can pick google, yahoo etc. my preference would be for the rectangles to appear. but if i must i will use open new tab to home page add on. just the problem is that i cant install it.
now when i search for conduit in about:config conduit came back yet again. guess i couldnt get rid of it after all! this is so frustrating. i really need someone who knows their stuff and i would greatly appreciate help. all previous posts i read on how to get rid of it all proved useless. why is there no solution to this problem?!
right now i just want add ons to work because it seems that, at least for now, when i type something in to the url bar it searches in google, so if i can get new tabs to open in anything but conduit i guess i can ignore the fact that it is really annoying that conduit is still located in about:config. (oh and yes i did delete everything from add/remove programs realted to toolbars and conduit or whatever similar)

oops my bad. first paragraph meant to say "i see ads". not ad ons

  • Can't update add-ons, install toolbars or new add-ons, get desktop shortcut icons to work, delete desktop shortcut icons, or uninstall Firefox! Help!

I have Firefox 3.6.3 running on a Toshiba Satellit laptop with Windows XP. I can't update add-ons, install google and yahoo toolbars, get any of the 3 desktop shortcuts to work or delete them, nor uninstall Firefox to try and start over. What a piece of crap! How can I wake up from this nightmare?

    Every time Firefox opened

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems
See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile]]
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

  • After installing new Add-on,Firefox want me to restart to complete add-on installing, but when I restart firefox,add-on dissapears from Add-ons manager and won't install

After installing add-on,when Firefox ask me to restart to complete installation,in extensions folder it creates staged folder, but when i restart, this folder will removed and add-on not installed.
The Problem first happened when some extensions would not uninstalled and Firefox keep saying that addon will be uninstalled after restart, but nothing happen after restart.
    So with following this instruction:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot%20uninstall%20an%20add-on
After safe mode not worked either,I uninstalled extension with their IDs manually. After that I cannot install any add-on that needs restart.

This can be caused if one of the files that stores details of installed extensions is corrupt.
    # Open your profile folder, for details of how to find it see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
    # Close Firefox
    # Delete the following files if they exist, extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini and extensions.sqlite
    # Re-start Firefox, it will then rebuild the list on installed extensions

  • Firefox closes and wont open on installing certain add ons

I was using Firefox today and suddenly one of the add ons ( Download Helper ) started to be irresponsive. I tried to close firefox and reopen it and wont open. The icon flashes and goes away. I removed the app using Appzapper and downloaded and run a clean reinstall. Now, I went on to download all the add ons I used to have (Download Helper, Sage and few others) and restarted firefox and the symptoms reappeares. I tried to create a new profile and it didn't work. I used Safe mode to deactivate the plugins and it works, whenever one of them ( which I used to have before the problems ) is activated Firefox crashes. I went on to create a new Account and tried the same and it is working perfectly. So, can you tell me what I might have done wrong to cause this?

  • How can I stop Firefox from using and installing AVG add-ons?

Firefox continually re-installs AVG Toolbar and Secure Search and I need to be able to remove everything AVG permanently. My Alternative is to use another browser, so please advise asap?
    Thanks.

REmove from Firefox Toolbar and windows control pannel
In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.
