Installing New HD

This is my first time trying to install a new HDD into a Mac.
The 80GB HDD that came with my late 2007 White Macbook is full so I bought a 2.5" Seagate "Momentus LP" 1TB SATA drive to replace it.
Switching out the drives couldn't have been easier.
My problem lies in trying to format the new drive.
I've tried pressing "C" while the computer boots up to boot off the CD's or I pressed option and tried to boot off a USB stick, here's what happened:
I've tried booting from my SL disc and I get a flashing folder with a x in it.
I've tried booting from my iMac Leopard disc... same results.
I've tried booting from my Macbook Leopard disc(that originally came with the computer)... same results.
I've tried booting from a bootable USB with Mountain Lion installed and I get a "Do Not" symbol(circle with a stroke through it).
After several different versions of OSX and different forms of media my conclusion is that the drive is not compatible with the computer.
Hopefully somebody out there can prove me wrong and tell me I've just made a rookie mistake.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

After looking into things a bit more I think I've figured out that the drive may be working ok, but the optical drive in the computer is not. This would explain why I'm not able to boot from the install CD's.
I used Carbon Copy Cloner and cloned the original HDD onto a external drive.
I installed the new 1TB drive into the computer and then booted off the external drive.
The new 1TB drive showed up in Disk Utilities and I was able to format it.
After formatting the drive I inserted my OS X install disc, restarted the computer and held down "C".
Again I was unable to install the OS.
The optical drive ejects the disc after a little while and I get the folder with a X in it.
I previously thought that the optical drive would eject the disc if it could not detect a HDD.
I placed the original HDD back into the computer and turned it on.
I tried inserting the OS X disc. It was soon ejected.
I treid inserting a music CD. It too was soon ejected.
It appears I may be doing two firsts this week. Installing my first HDD and optical drive in a Mac. lol
Or maybe I should just buy the new Retina Macbook Pro.

However, I still have the problem with copying and moving files.
I even cannot install new software now, as it has to copy itself to the programs-directory, and gives the same error-message.

My user-account is administrator, I use a 13" Macbook Aluminium (Late 2008). Mac OS X 10.6.8 CPU 2Ghz Intel Core Duo, RAM: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
- make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
- do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
- perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
- make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
- after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.

So I updated the itunes and now it won't open it, it states a message "the itunes library.itl" cannot be open because it was created by a newer version of itunes, I have unistalled and re-installed newer and older version and still i get this message.

I am running Firefox 19.0.2 installed yesterday on a new desktop PC at the office. (Old PC failed to boot on Monday.) I have completed most of my customization without difficulty. However, when I try to install new search engines, it doesn't seem to matter which one, I get a pop-up error message:
"Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a search plug-in."
I had no problems installing new search engines under Firefox 16 3rd quarter of last year when I started this job. Why am I unable to install search engines in FF 19?

So, in iTunes, when you look at the shuffle's content (in the sidebar) and click on the playlist under the shuffle, over to the right, the songs are in your desired order, correct? Where do you look, or what do you do, that indicates the playlists are in alphabetical order? Are you saying that when you play the songs while using the shuffle, they play in alphabetical order?
If so, when you listen to the songs on the shuffle, are you using the playlist, or are you using the All Songs list? If you are in the default All Songs list, with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order (the middle position), the songs play alphabetically, I believe.
The 3rd gen shuffle uses VoiceOver. If you are in the All Songs list, you need to use VoiceOver to switch to the playlist (see manual linked below for details). When you are in the playlist (with the shuffle's power switch set to play-in-order), then the songs should play in playlist order.

I just updated the software on my iPad and now I cannot update my Aps or install new ones. I ran a diagnostic and that resulted in "power issue." It wouldn't let me select what my options were. Any ideas?

Don't know where to get help. I just updated the software and I am having issues with not being able to update Aps or install new ones. The circles just spin and Aps just say "waiting." I tried running a diagnostic with the apple store and it came back with "power issues" (?) as a result. It wouldn't let me select an option to see what steps I could take to fix it, it just backed out of the page. I just don't know what to do.....

Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done.

I have a mini laptop "Toshiba nb200-10z" and it doesnt startup anymore.
I would like to do a recovery, but it also doesnt work.
I know there is a shortcut like press the 0 button when the laptop is starting up.
With this shortcut you can start the recovery to reset the software.
But when I press the 0 button it gives me an error.
So I think the recovery drive/partition is lost.
How can I install new windows on this minilaptop without a CD drive?

I have found a much easier way to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash drive. Unlike other methods where you have to write complicated commands, this method can be completed even by those who have very little computer background.
The whole process takes only two steps, run UNetbootin, load the Windows 7 ISO file, and finally restart your computer.
Before you begin, you will require the following:
USB Flash Drive (4GB minimum)
Windows 7 ISO Image file
UNetbootin
Note: If UNetbootin doesnt work, try out the Microsofts official tool called Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool.
Now insert the USB drive, run UNetbootin, and select Disk Image as ISO. Browse your local drive for Windows 7 ISO that you downloaded and click Open. Now Select Type as USB and choose the drive. Once done, it will look like a bit similar to the screenshot shown below.
Click OK and it will begin extracting all installation files to the USB drive. The whole process will take some time (10-15 minutes), so have patience.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer. Now while your system is starting up press the appropriate button (usually F1, F2, F12, ESC, Backspace, or Escape) to bring up Bios Boot Menu.
Change the startup order to boot USB by default, usually you will have to press F6 to move the selected USB device on top. Once done, save changes and restart the system.

With all you media (apps, music) in the iTunes library connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up. Then restore the iPod from that backup.
Note the the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

Installed new RAM now computer wont start up

I just installed 2GB of RAM in my iMac and removed the 512mb card it had originally.when i pressed the power button it beeps fast a few time then the fan starts working really fast. The screen doesnt turn on only the sleep light blinks as the fan runs. I replaced one of the new cards with the original 512mb card and it starts but when i check the memory the slot where the new 1GB card appears "empty" why could this be? did i install incorrectly?

When you install new RAM you have to push much harder than you think you should. You won't damage the RAM, but you have t give a mighty push to seat it, make sure you hear a click.

Given the state your device is in you have already erased your old stuff. You have an image on the screen that says, "Connect to iTunes." That's what the image means. So you will need iTunes on your computer.

Depending on why it's been disabled you might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
Or you might need to contact Apple : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
If it then works on your computer's iTunes but not your phone/iPad then try logging out of your account on the phone/iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on it

Will not print black ink after installing new HP cartridge

HP Officejet 4620, Windows 7....installed new HP black ink cartridge and now it will not print black at all. I followed all online tips in the help section, even cleaned the vents on the cartridge itself but only prints blank page. No error messages are shown. Diagnostics ran and says all is working correctly. Also cleaned printheads through 2 cycles still nothing. Any other suggestions? It was working just fine before inserting new black cartridge.

I just spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with HP Tech Support but it was worth it. They are sending a replacement printer no charge to me (expect I chose to pay extra for next day shipping). Even though my printer is out of warranty!!! I normally buy HP products anyway but will definintely stay with this brand based on their excellent customer service and support. Thank you once again for your initial help online and for directing me on the right path!!!

Make sure it is a genuine HP cartridge. Take it out and clean the contact on the cartridge and in the printer. Try again.
