Installing new spyware,uninstalling old spyware

I have been getting messages popping up on my computer from Antivirus2010 and McAfee saying I am not fully protected and need to update.
I asked the clerk at Office Max if I should update with either McAfee or AV2010 he said AVG Antispyware is the best. I bought it, installed it, but it says there is Antispyware that needs to be uninstalled. I can't figure out how to uninstall McAfee or AV2010.
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the old spyware, and have their pop-ups stop coming up, and did I make the right choice with AVG?

I know it's a little late, but that "Antivirus2010" popup that prompted you to install AV2010, had you INSTALL a virus. The message was bogus.

I installed the latest Adobe Flash Player version on my iMac. Now I keep getting an icon and window telling me to install Flash player everytime I click on my hard drive.
When I click to go ahead and install, I receive the message that a later version of Adobe Flash is already installed and that therefore this version cannot be installed.
How can I get this older version to quit popping up telling me to install it every time I click on my hard drive? I put it in the trash, but it comes back again and again when I click on my hard drive icon on the desktop!

When you click on your hard drive? Opening the Mac HD uses Finder. Flash Player doesn't even factor into that.
Are you sure you aren't seeing it every time you open Safari?
And is THIS what you're seeing?

Install new drivers uninstall or just install over the old ones

do i have to uninstall my old mobo drivers before installing the new one's? or just install over them??

Yeah, I just overwrite the mobo drivers with new ones as they usually only differ in small details.
For Vid Card drivers I like to use Driver Cleaner (Google for it - It's free & it will get rid of Mobo & Sound Card drivers too, if you wish) to root out all traces of a previous driver set before installing new ones. Unlike mobo drivers, different versions can vary greatly in content... if some of the old code is left over, it may not allow the new drivers to work properly.

Unable to install new quicktime as old one won't uninstall.

when i tried to insatall the new version of iTunes on windows it got about 3/4 of the way through and said that it could not uninstall the older version of quicktime and to try again. i tried several times and even tried manually uninstalling quicktime, as this wouldn't work i tried deleting the program files for quicktime which worked, but some remained. the same problem persisted, what should I do?

I had a similar problem and used this to uninstall quicktime. It appear the a previous installation go hung up. After you installm just select quicktime to complete un install quicktime

Bought new Macbook Pro. Can I install new OS on old iMac?

I just bought a brand new Macbook Pro and it has Snow Leopard on it.
Can I use the Snow Leopard disks that came with the Macbook to install Snow Leopard on my other iMac computer? I'm hoping to wipe clean the iMac because it's sluggish after nearly 3 years of use and it is also cluttered with so much crap a complete clean install would do it some good.

The short answer is maybe. Because many of the Os installation disks that came with a Mac will only install on that type of Mac. There is a file on the install CD that determines what models that CD can install on. You would give it a try and it should let you know before you wipe the iMac clean and actually install Snow Leopard.

Hello. I have a friend who never updates anything on her older Mac and has a 1. number something Safari browser. (It has a Mac OS X, not sure what version.) I tried to update it from Apple's website, but a message appeared saying it might be a bogus website to which I was referred. 1) could machine be infected? 2) is there any special step to downloading a newer browser over an older one? 3) do you recommend any free program to search out infections first? (she will retrieve the OS X disk so I can give her a new user account password since she's forgotten hers).

Open disk utility (should be in your utilities folder), highlight your file, and click on repair permissions. Repair disk is a different process that "fixes" directory problems. That is found by booting from your software install DVD. DO NOT actually run the software install. Rather, select disk utility, highlight your HD, and then run the process.

One can assume that they are not supported by MSI

Installed new JRE, but old version is still used

I'm running openSUSE 10.3 on a laptop. I just installed JDK 6u3 and JRE 6u3.
When I compile my programs an run them, it says "unsupported class version number". So I typed in "java -version", and it said "Java Version 1.5.0_12".
How do I make it use JRE 6u3 and not JRE 5?
P.S. I can compile the programs using "javac -version 1.4", and then they'll work.

As initially reported there was an unsuccessful upgrade of JDK and JRE due to an unknown problem.
In Linux distributions, links to Java tools resides in the path */usr/bin* and don't need to set any system variable to straight invocate them since this path is included in PATH global system variable.
If thought on the global user variable JAVA_HOME, it is for "applications" and respecting the developer/user knowledge I didn't mention this fact.

For starters, what exactly do you mean by "cannot print"?
Are you getting an error message? Are you trying to print from within Reader or are you opening these in the browser? What version of Reader. Even though it's a new printer, the drivers that came with it (or the ones that were already on your computer) may be old so, have you downloaded the most recent drivers from the Brother site?

When trying to install new version of Quicktime, I get a error message that quicktime cannot uninstall old version. This also affects Itunes to work. Get Message Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. I think not having quicktime working affects my Itunes from launching.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").

Also, I believe I will need to choose the Advanced uninstall option because the Standard uninstall states it will keep activation data. As I will need to use the new activation number, I think Advanced is the more thorough way to go.

Cant install new i tunes, cant uninstall old i tunes

after upgrading to itunes 9.1 in the usual manner it froze and slowed computer down.
Decided to uninstall and re-install afresh but wont let me uninstall old itunes and i get an message saying 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable?'
so no itunes as if i try to install it i get messages saying it can't remove old components(bonjour etc) and then says it cant install quicktime.finish!

I have tried installing quicktime on it's own but it tells me that at cannot remove the old version of quicktime and to contact technical support. It does this when i try to install itunes and seems to be unable to uninstall older versions.
I have tried removing the itunes files in program files.
If you try to uninstall it tells me it cant find itunes msi and to try to find the installation package itunes msi in a folder in which you can install the product i tunes.
