Installing new version 6 with version 5 on the machine

Can I install the new JDK version 6 and still leave my old version 5 on the machine? I would like to be able to use both of them for a short while. Thank you.

Thank you Joachim,
When I install version 6 can I just use the default installation locations without having an adverse effect on version 5?
Thank you again.

  • So I updated the itunes and now it won't open it, it states a message "the itunes library.itl" cannot be open because it was created by a newer version of itunes, I have unistalled and re-installed newer and older version and still i get this message.

Before installing new activation-free version of CS2, during uninstall of old Photoshop, should I keep or remove preferences and should I use standard or advanced uninstall?

Thank you very much for that info.
Also, I believe I will need to choose the Advanced uninstall option because the Standard uninstall states it will keep activation data.  As I will need to use the new activation number, I think Advanced is the more thorough way to go.
    Thanks again.

  • Add a new directory with hyphen (-) in the domain name

    Dear All,
I'm trying to add a new directory with hyphen (-) in the domain name (default domain *.onmicrosoft.com). As a result I keep getting a validation error: "The domain is not unique". I've tried several
combinations with really awkward words and a hyphen. Such domain names must be unique. I think that the error message is misleading.
Is it a well known behavior? Is it possible to use a hyphen in the domain name?
    Thank you for your help,
    Artem

    Dear Arvind,
Thank you for your effort and time in validating the described behavior.
    According to the
Regexp for subdomain question on SO, 'Each subdomain part may contain hyphens (dashes), but may not begin or end with a hyphen'. That been said, the validation error, on your screenshot is appropriate. On the other hand, the validation error
with a hyphen (dash) in the middle is misleading.
It's not a big deal, since people most likely use a custom DNS name anyway.
    Kind regards,
    Artem

I cannot find how to keep previous photo albums loaded on Ipad when syncing new ones with iTunes. The old ones are wiped out every single time

If it's not too late, see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. As long as you have a backup of the device when the device still held your photos you should stand a chance of recovering them using a tool such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

  • HT1386 why did I lose all my contacts when I installed new 5.1 version???

Why did I lose all of my contacts when I installed 5.1.1 version on my iphone 4? I did back-up and got everything else back except the contacts???

What address book or cloud service were you syncing your contacts with before the update? They should still be there.
Contact information is only part of the backup in order to maintain your favorites and recent calls list. Contacts are meant to be synced to a cloud service or address book.

  • Install problems starting with version 11 no current owner of object in programData directory

What I have found starting with version 11 of iTunes is that their is no owner of the object : C:\ProgramData\34BE82C4-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199EBF69\x64   you get the following when you try and look at the permissions of this object: "Unable to display current owner." This is one of the directories that is installed when you install iTunes.  When you try and look at this directory you do not have access rights even if you or the Administrator !! This is a bug in your install program and the only fix is to completely remove iTunes and go in safe mode and delete this directory and then reinstall.  Works find untill you come up with another update and you will have to do this all over again because when this directory path is created it does not have a owner of administrator so it can never be updated since the install program or anyone else in that matter can get access to this directory.  So you will fail the install everytime.  Please fix !!!

More infomation:  I am running on a Lenovo H330 with Window 7 Home Premium w/service pack 1 and all patches applied.
    Intel i5-2500 CPU @ 3.GHz 3.30GHz (dual core)
    8 GB memory
    64 bit Operatin System
I have also ran the following helps from K Gazow: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20920363#20920363?ac_cid=tw123456#20920363
This did not help I am still getting the following error:
Now if you go into that same dir path you find that after doing the proceedure that K Gazow suggested and rerunning iTunes64Setup.exe (ver 11.0.2) it went in and deleted the x64 directory.  Thats is why I am getting this error now.
When I click on "OK" it will try and backout the install and then I will get the following error:
You go to see if that path is there and it is not, their is no Installer\ path under C:\windows\
So now it looks like I will have to remove iTunes again and reinstall will update when I have that done.

  • HT3939 how can i know the ios version with out activate the divice?

hi, my iphone 4 was locked with ktf korea, and i made the payment for unlocking the phone through internet one month ago,
but i am not able to do the second step which provided by the unlocking site, i don't know which ios is running in it ,
can i get it with out activate the phone....

Are you able to access the home screen? With the app that looks like a cog, it's the settings app, then you scroll a little way down to General, then the first thing you should see is "About", hit that, scroll down until you see "Version", that is your iOS that your phone is currently running. OR go to Settings > General > Software Update> and it'll tell you there too. OR try plugging your phone into your computer via 30 pin/usb cord. I'm assuming you already have an iTunes account with a current iTunes I.D. and passcode, once you plug it in and iTunes recognizes the device, in the top right it will say "iPhone" and this little bar that says that will have a spinning icon while it is synced to iTunes, click it and in the banner at the top of iTunes will say what version of iTunes the iPhone 4 has.

  • Windows 7 Enterprise is not genuine after installing new hard-drive and cloning the old one

I retired from my job as a university professor two years ago, and they let me keep my laptop computer, which is a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Enterprise installed. I do not have any of the original disks for Windows. Recently, the hard-drive began
to fail, so I replaced it with a new one, cloning the old hard-drive onto the new one. Soon after that, a popup window began appearing saying that this computer is not running genuine windows. One important consequence of this is that I can no longer use Windows
Update, so I have concerns about security. If I go to the control panel under “System”, it says windows is activated and gives me the Product ID. I have talked to tech support at Microsoft, and they tell me something along the lines of the following: that
the problem is the new hard-drive is not recognized as being licensed to use this copy of Windows, and that I should post a question on one of the forums asking this: How can I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise on the new hard-drive? Any assistance will be much
    appreciated.
PS I have no idea which forum this should go under, so pretty much just picked one randomly.

  • I'm working on my iMac PowerMac8,2 PowerPC G5 (3.1) 2 GHz machine and have been having problems with the computer shutting down unpredictably. After the problem becoming impossible to work with, I shut the machine down. Now a little better, but reoccuring

I'm working with my iMac PPC G5, PowerMac8,2, 2 GHz machine running OS X 10.4.11, and was having a problem for a while with the machine shutting down unexpectedly. There was no clear pattern to when it was shutting down as far as I could tell. For a while, it would also not restart when buttoned on.
I set the machine aside for a while, probably a month or more, and then got it back out after its rustication. It started up and runs significantly better than it had been, but I have noticed it shutting down sometimes now again, though not as frequently as before. Sometimes it runs for a good long time between active work, sleep mode, and active work again. Once in a while it does shut down when no one is working on it (while asleep). But now it always restarts when buttoned on.
I've done the thorough vacuuming of any dust from the unit vents. I wonder if there's anything else I should try. In most other ways the machine works pretty well and has become the family desktop for basic uses, so I'd like to keep it running if I can. A little frustrating to not be able to upgrade all programs (iTunes) to useable versions, but that's another story....
I would appreciate any ideas about the shut down problem.

    Option 1
Reset your PRAM.  Press and hold down the Command Option P R keys while starting your computer.  You will hear the startup chime.  continue holding down those keys until you hear the startup chime a second time.  Release the keys.  If the computer restarts, you will need to reset your Date and Time.  It might be time to replace your PRAM battery.  The G5 iMacs require a 3 volt CR2032 lithium watch/camera battery like below:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CR2032/
You can find these batteries at Walmart, Kmart, Target, most local drugstore chains, for between $3-$5, or at Radio Shack for $12-$20.
If you have any G5 iMac model EXCEPT the iSight version, you can probably do the battery install yourself.  Watch this video on upgrading your iMac's RAM to show you how to remove the back of your iMac, if you don't already know how:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_g5_mem_m/
While you have the back off, use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out the vents at the bottom of the iMac, the fans, and anywhere else you can.  Also inspect the 28-30 capacitors on the logic board.  Look for dark spots, if they look puffy or swollen, or leaks.
    Option 2
Reset the SMC by removing all cables (USB, Firewire, Ethernet, Modem, Power cord) from the back of your computer.  Let it sit for one minute.  Press and hold the power on button on the back of the iMac while plugging in the power cord.  Release the power on button.  Count to five, the press the power on button again.
    Option 3
Place your original, came with the iMac when purchased install disk, into the slot on the iMac, press and hold the C key while pressing the power on button on the back of the computer.  (If you have upgraded your OS from when you purchased your iMac, example your iMac came with OS 10.3 installed, and you're now using OS 10.5, then use the OS 10.5 Retail Install disk that you had used to upgrade your OS instead of the original, came with the iMac disk.)
Continue holding the C key until you see the OS starting to load.  DO NOT do an OS installation.  At the top Menu bar, select Utilities or Utility, and pull down to Disk Utility.  On the left side of the window that opens, select your normal OS drive.  Click First Aid at the top middle of the window if it isn't already selected.  Click Repair Disk from the lower right area of the window.  When that is done, click Repair Permissions to the left of the Repair Disk button you clicked earlier.
When that is done, quit Disk Utility.  From the top Menu bar (I think its under Utilities) select the Start Up Manager, and choose your normal boot volume as the startup disk.  Restart the computer.  If successful, and you've rebooted from your normal startup disk, eject the install DVD/CD, and you're good to go.
    Good luck.

In general, most people will recommend Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! You can find either one easily enough with a web search.
However, in your case, I imagine you are going to have a hard disk returned to you all by itself, and you will need to install it in an enclosure. Don't let that bother you as this is easy to do and the enclosures are not expensive ($40 or so).
Once that is done, I would recommend you set up your brand new Mac by answering all the questions during initial setup as usual. Be sure to use your correct Apple ID - probably the same one you used to log into this support forum. When you reach the point in which it asks you if you would like to transfer your old documents and settings, connect the old hard disk and select it as the source. It will take some time as it copies all its contents to your new Mac. All your familiar items will be exactly as they were on the failed Mac.
After that, you can use the old hard disk as a Time Machine backup. When you are satisfied everything on your new Mac is running as it should, go ahead and erase the old disk. Then, tell Time Machine to designate it as a backup, and the rest is automatic.

  • Install new hard drive, restore from Time Machine, File Vault Problems

    Hello all,
I spent way too much time on this seemingly simple task, so I thought I would share my experience with others so they can avoid some pitfalls when upgrading a hard drive in a system that uses File Vault 2 encryption. The basic goal here is to replace a drive in a system that has only one drive, and the OS is Mavericks, and then have the new drive encrypted as before.
The problem is that a Time Machine restore onto a new drive will leave that without a Recovery Partition, which is required for File Vault 2 and some other important things. So we need to build a recovery partition. There are possibly several ways to do this.
Here's what worked for me (this is compiled from many sources that I found and already closed the tabs in my browser so I can't list all my sources):
    1) Make a full backup to an external hard drive using Time Machine.
    2) Go into the App Store and download OS X Mavericks but dont install it (close the window when it pops up asking to continue the install). Do this even if you already have Mavericks. At this point, there will be a folder in your Applications folder called Install OS X Mavericks (or similar).
    3) Insert a USB drive that is at least 8 GB and format it using Disk Utility, naming it the default "Untitled".
    4) Open a terminal and type
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
    5) Wait for this to finish (took me about 30 min). Eject the USB drive and power down.
    6) Remove the old hard drive and set it aside. Keep it for a few weeks until you know the new drive is working as expected.
    7) Install the new hard drive and insert the USB drive. Hold the option key and press the power button. Choose to boot from the USB installer.
    8) Use the disk utility to erase whatever partition shipped with the new drive, replacing it with a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) system. Verify that GUID is the partition type (in Advanced options).
    9) Close the disk utility and install Mavericks. This can take a long time. My new drive is an SSD, and it sat at the "1 second remaining" part for about 20 min. Let it reboot (maybe it was 2 times?) and go through the setup until it finishes the install.
    10) Boot into the freshly installed OS and open a terminal and type:
    diskutil list
    11) If there is a partition listed as Apple_Boot Recovery HD (mine was 650 MB), then you now have a recovery partition. If not, then go into the App store and download Mavericks, but don't use the USB this time, choose to do a regular install (or reinstall to be more correct).
    12) Now there will be a recovery partition on the new drive and Time Machine will not overwrite it when restoring. Power down the system.
    13) Plug in the Time Machine backup drive used in step 1. Press the option key and power on. Choose to boot from the recovery partiton (Mavericks).
    14) Choose to restore from Time Machine backup. Wait until it finishes and log into the old familiar account.
    15) Start a terminal and verify the recovery partition is still there (type diskutil list and see that the Apple_Boot Recovery HD is there). If it's missing, choose to download Mavericks from the App Store again and run the installation from this one.
    16) Once there is a Mavericks recovery partition on the restored data you can simply turn on File Vault from the System Preferences Security section. It will require a reboot and then you login and wait for it to finish.
What a major pain to go through all of this for the sake of upgrading a hard drive. This should not be anywhere near as complicated. I hope this helps others avoid the very time consuming trial and error I went through in developing this procedure.

Talked with Apple last night. Everything we did to restore lost images failed to fix the issue. I did have the images still on my camera's SD card so I was not breaking out in a cold sweat.
All Time Machine backups showed the same issue. HOWEVER, I suddenly remembered I also had a SuperDuper backup and voila. The images were there.
Moral of the story: you can't ever be too rich or have too many backups (I also have an offsite backup).

  • How do I install new fonts with a Mac?I

I am using Fireworks 8 on a Mac and can't figure out how to install new fonts.  I've added the new fonts to the Font Book, and they show up  in other applications such as Adobe Illustrator, but not Fireworks.  Does anybody have any suggestions?  Thanks!

You must restart Fireworks after you add new fonts, as far as I know.
Once you restart it, you should see all new installed fonts!
    Hope this helps?
PS Hint: I think a future version of Fireworks will show fonts almost immediately after they're installed... At least, I hope so!

So, you installed Window 7 Pro with a DVD, you boot with it to install the O.S, and now it does not work?
Have you tried to load the BIOS default values or even updating the BIOS?
If it had work before, cant understand why it does not work now...
