Installing NI-DAQ (MAX) also installs Run-Time engine?

Hello all,
I have noticed, on computers where I have installed MAX (which installs NI-DAQ) that the Run-Time engine also appears.
Does MAX install the Run-Time? Or was it MAX that installed? Or was it probably already there....?
Thanks,
Richard
Richard

That would make perfect sense. It'd be "nice" if the CD eluded to that fact, so you don't have to bother with finding the RTE if it's already there.
Thanks Analog Kid --- good Rush song by the way... but the're all good! (except maybe Rivendell, but only a true fan would know that one).

  • Install labview 6.1 (or compatible) run-time engine with labview 2011

I have installed a trial period version of Labveiw 2011 in order to check for possible upgrade issues I may have if I decide to upgrade from labveiw 6.1. Well, needless to say there have been alot. That is as expected since I have not updated labview in many years. I am still not under any pressure to update; however, I would like to in order to get support and make sure I do not have any compatibility issues with new  equipment purchases. I have been able to resolve most of my compatibility issues with simple code fixes and such. However, twice now I have run into an error when launching labview executeables compiled by two different equipment manufacturers. The equipment I am using is not even old...maybe a year or so. When I launch the labview executables to control this equipment on a PC that has the trial period labview 2011 installed, I get an error message stating something like " This requires a Labview 6.1 (or compatible) run time engine." I have tried to download and install the 6.1 labivew engine but I can't install this engine on a PC which has labview 2011 installed. Can someone explain how I am to run these executables under labview 2011. I can't imagine these executables were developed using 6.1 since this equipment is not even a year old now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Im not for sure I am on the same page with you here. Im not trying to develop any code myself. I have some labview executables that came with hardware we purchased in order to control it. We used to have labview 6.1 installed; so everything was working ok. But now that I have installed 2011, I get an error message when trying to run these executables. The error message states that this executable requires a labview 6.1 or compatible run-time engine. I have seen this error on both XP and Windows 7 machines. I did not develop the executable, it was developed by the hardware manufacturer. But since this hardware is only about 1 year old, I an assuming they used a newer version of Labview to develop this code. Certianly newer than 6.1.
So I guess my question is..is there a way for me to get this executable to work on a PC that has labview 2011 installed. I have tried to install a labview 6.1 run time engine but it will not install. Any other options?

  • Run time engine install from build package failure

when trying to install LV 8.0 Run Time engine from build package, an error is generated that the target computer needs to have LabView 8.0 installed.
i have verified that the run time engine is included as an additional installer under the build project.

    Hi MJK34,
If you are being prompted to install LabVIEW there must be something in the build that requires LabVIEW, not just the runtime.  Can you post a screenshot of your build specification?  Thanks.

  • Does Vision Development Module obviate the need for the Vision Run Time Engine?

I have several computers with the full version of Labview (8.0.1 and\or 8.2) as well as the most recent version of the Vision Development Module (VDM 8.2.1), all fully registered and activated.  In addition, I have one computer we have designated the "build" computer which has the professional version of LV 8.2 as well as LV 8.0.1 Full version w/ Application Builder (we have delayed migrating certain applications to 8.2 for various reasons).  Instead of distributing applications as source distributions to these computers (uncompiled VIs), we would like to use our build computer to compile applications that make use of the Vision image processing VIs.  I know that all of these computers have the appropriate LV run time engines installed, but I was wondering if I need to install (and thus purchase) the Vision Run Time Engine for each of these computers.  I know that when you install VDM, you also get a copy of the vision RTE (in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Vision\Run-Time Engine).  Does this mean the engine is already installed and ready to run compiled applications?  Or do we need to pay for the engine on each computer?

The Development module includes the RTE for that machine.
For the other machines, you will need to purchase the Vision RTE and install and activate for each machine. See the KB article below for more details.

  • VI backwards compatibility with older run-time Engines

I currently developed a VI in Labview 8.6.1.  I also created an exe for it so that I can run it on another computer.  However, the other computer has an older version of the Run-Time engine installed and so my program cannot be executed on that computer without upgrading the run-time engine to 8.6.1.  But....that computer also has some programs that run on that version of run-time engine.  I have two options here but I do not know the effects or how to do it.
    1) Install a newer version of the run-time engine (8.6.1) - Will this break the current functionality of the programs already on it?
    2) Is it possible to have my VI run on older versions of the run-time engine?  If so, how do I do that?
    Thank you.

As dennis said simply install the new runtime engine. We have machines that have 5 versions of the runtime engine on them and we haven't experienced any problems.

  • Run Time Engine Web Service

Hello Gents, Anybody knows why I can't access to VI (*.exe) on remote PC. On remote PC has been installed only standard 8.6 Run Time Engine. Do I need to install additional parts like NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine Web Server or/and LV Web Server? And is it possible to communicate through this using RTE on both sites?
    Solved!

Sure, with LabVIEW installed it works properly. But questions is "how I can to view VI interface on PC with RTE installed via Web browser in case when this VI has been uploaded on this PC?".
It is mean that we are using Web Server for this. Are you sure standard LabVIEW Run-Time Engine contains this?  And as I’m understood I need to copy *.html files to somewhere…. on this PC? Thank you for support and advices

  • Uninstalling LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 6.1

Hi, I get an error message during uninstalling NI LabVIEW
    Run-Time Engine 6.1:
    Error 2727 NETSCAPEPLAGINSDIR
How can I fix this problem?

    Armen,
Here is my guess as to what happened:
    1. You had Netscape installed on your machine.
    2. You installed the LabVIEW Run-time Engine which installed the remote panel plugin into Netscape.
    3. You uninstalled Netscape.
    4. You are trying to uninstall the LabVIEW Run-time Engine.
If this is correct, then try installing Netscape again, uninstall the LabVIEW Run-time Engine, and finally uninstall Netscape again. If this does not work, then please submit a phone request at http://www.ni.com/ask to get help with MSIBlast.

  • When creating an application installer in LV, what run-time engine or driver must be installed to install the VISA interactive control?

I've created an application installer using LabVIEW's application builder and use it to install NI MAX.  However, after running the installer, the VISA interactive control is disabled in NI MAX.
    The installer installs the following NI components:  NI LabVIEW Run-Time 2014 SP-1(64-bit), NI LabWindows/CVI Shared Run-Time Engine 2013 SP2, NI Measurement & Automation Explorer 14.5, NI-488.2 Application Development Support (includes run-time), NI-VISA Configuration Support 14.0.1, NI-VISA Runtime 14.0.1, NI-VISA Server 14.0, NI Systems Configuration Runtime 14.5.0, vision run-time, dc-power run-time.
If I download and run the 488.2 installer, the VISA interactive control is enabled in NI MAX.  But, the installer created with the application builder does not seem to install the necessary components.
What needs to be added to the installer to enable  the VISA interactive control (VISAIC)?
    Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion with the forum post that Jon sent you. I did some research on our internal database and I found out the component will not be installed by any of the components added from the additional installers section on the configuration of the installer. As you have already found out you need to install the full installer in order to enable this feature.
I know that this might be an inconvenient for you because you wanted to have one installer to run. On this case may I suggest using the NI Batch Installer Builder.
The NI Batch Installer Builder allows building installers that contain National Instruments software from several products. That way you can create an installer for you application in LabVIEW (and not include the drivers in the additional installer section), then use NI Batch Installer Builder to include the installer for your application and the full version of the drivers that you mentioned.
    Here is the download link:

And in here you can find instructions on how to get started with it:

  • LabVIEW 2011SP1 Error building installer: LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2013 is missing 3 dependencies???

I'm having a problem building an installer in LabVIEW 2011SP1.

The really strange thing about this is that I'm using LabVIEW 2011SP1, I don't even have LabVIEW 2013 installed, not even the runtime.
Where is the problem? Why is it even complaining about LabVIEW 2013? Has anyone seen this before?

I do have the LabVIEW 2013 discs but didn't install it.
I checked in Control Panel > Programs and Features > National Instruments Software and the LabVIEW 2013 Run-Time is not listed there.
I also checked in MAX > Software and I must have missed it the first time I looked. LabVIEW Run-Time 2013 is listed there after all.
Now I remember installing VISA 5.4 to get rid of a nasty bug. It must have installed the 2013 Run-Time when I did that.
So now I need to distribute 2 runtimes with my application?!?!

  • MAX giving error - Unable to locate Labview run-time engine

I have LV 7.1 and 8.5.1 installed on a WinXP pc. No problems until now.
I installed some support software for a LabJack  interface, which required LV version 6.1 run-time, so I let it install that.
I now get the error whenever I run MAX:
"Unable to locate the Labview run-time engine. LVBrokerAux71 requires a version 7.1 (or compatible) Labview run-time engine...."
After closing the error boxes, MAX seems to work fine. Both versions of Labview also work. I uninstalled run-time engine 6.1 and re-installed version 8.5.1, but that made no difference. I tried to install run-time version 7.1 from the msi file but it would not let me because a later version of the run-time is installed.
What is LV Broker? Why does it not accept version 8.5.1 run-time engine? Is it possible to have 2 versions of the run-time engine installed, and if so, how?

    Dear CDancer
Thank you for contacting NI. First of all, you can have as many versions of LabVIEW run time engines you want loaded on your computer without a problem. LV Broker is installed by all drivers that uses LabVIEW testpanels like DAQmx does. In your case it seems that the LV Broker installation is corrupted or has failed. This can be rectified by overwriting the files in the specified directory listed below:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Broker
Your directory should look like the screenshot I have attached; labelled LV Broker Directory View
I have attached a ZIP File that will replace the LV Broker directory. Please try replacing your files with these if different to the screenshot and let me know how you get on. Many thanks.
Many thanks for using the NI forums and I look forward to your reply.

  • How to install Vision run-time engine to a desktop PC converted to real-time target

    Hi, all
I don't know how can I install the vision run-time engine to a desktop PC which I converted to a real-time target.  The same problem applies to installing real-time run-time engine and labview run-time engine to the real-time target.  The only way to install software to real-time target is through "add/remove software" in MAX for remote system, but it is not for all types of run-time engine installation.
I am also confused about how to activate those run-time engines for the desktop PC as real-time target.
    Please help and great thanks.

  • Can't install LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 6.1 on Windows Terminal Server

With my system admin, we tried to install the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 6.1 on our Windows Terminal Server NT4. And we get an error all the time:
    -install using the plugin
    -install using LVRTE.exe
    -install after rebooting the server
But I remember that we could install the Run-Time Engine 6.0 on another Windows Terminal Server NT4.
Is there any compatibility issues with the new Run-Time Engine 6.1 ??
    Thanks for your help
    Cyrille

    Cyrille,
What is the error that you get when trying to install the run-time engine?
Are you installing it from the LabVIEW CD, or did you download it from the web site?
To further troubleshoot this problem, it would be best if you send us an email to [email protected] and send the above information.
Also, try running the installer from the command prompt window, and use the following syntax:
    setup.exe/l*v
This will save the error log to the file you specify. Send us also this file to help us troubleshoot.

  • Installer Error of LabView Run Time Engine 6.0.2 "premature"

I cannot Install the LabView Run Time Engine on a Computer which runs on Windows 2000.
The Installation breaks on start with the Error Message: "Installation ended premature, because of an Error!"
Does anyone know what to do is ?
    Thanks for Help

It's rather difficult to guess why since the error does not give any more information, but there are a few things you can try. First, if you are installing from a CD, try downloading the installer to your desktop first and then run it. CD-ROMs can sometimes run slower that the installer and this can cause problems. Also, check to see what other NI software may have been installed on this machine and determine if any of it could conflict with the 6.0.2 Run-Time Engine. Just possibilities but hopefully they can get you going!

  • CVI Run time engine installation

    Hi,
We are using TestStand extensively and in our installation package will be
installing the CVI RTE (run-time engine). Where can I find exactly which
files (DLL's especially) are installed by the CVI RTE setup.exe?
    Iain

    Iain,
The CVI RTE installer installs CVIRT.dll and CVIRTE.dll in your Windows\System
directory (Win98/95) or Windows\System32 directory (Win2000/NT). It also
creates a CVIRTE directory in the same.
You can get the latest CVI RTE installer from ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/labwindows/
It consists of 2 floppy disks.
By default, the TestStand 1.0.x engine installer utility will install the
CVI 5.0.1 RTE. You can have the TS engine installer install the latest CVI
RTE by replacing the CVIRTE directory in your TestStand\Setup\Engine\ directory
*before* running the TS Engine Installation Wizard.
    Hope this helps,
    Paul
