Installing Non-Video Related Software

So back when I was reading the do's and don'ts of video editing on the Tweakers Page, it said not to install software unrelated to video editing, such as office suites. I can understand that installing other software may be a burden to accomplishing more successful video editing... but the problem is that I don't know why.
Is installing unrelated software going to affect the process of video editing because:
Complex programs have the chance of interfering with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014?
The unrelated program may be reading/writing to an HDD while rendering/exporting, thus slowing down the process?
If 2 is true, would there be much of a difference then when using an SSD instead of an HDD since SSDs work so differently?
The unrelated program takes up more space on the boot drive?
Some other reason?
As you can tell, I don't know WHY installing unrelated software on the boot drive is on the "don't" list of video editing. It makes sense that it would be, just because, but I would like to know the real reason.

I have 1 computer so do not have the option of not installing other software, and I have never had a problem (the other software does NOT include any other video software that could install a codec)
So, for question #2 you simply need to remember that it is YOUR choice what you have running while doing video editing... if you don't want some other software using computer cycles, don't run it while editing

Got it thanks! I looked there but didn't see that option at first. Another way other than allowing all apps to be installed is to leave it locked CTRL click and select OPEN form the menu. This allows it to run (an installer in my case)

Installing non-self signed software Digital IDs

Hi all,
to the best of my knowledge Acrobat allows installation of digital IDs either in software format (PKCS#12 keystores) or in hardware format (PKCS#11 HSMs). As far as the former is concerned, only self-signed certificates are allowed (PKCS#12 dows not support trustStore certificate attribute). My business case is that Digital IDs are formulated as non-self signed certificates delivered in JKS keystore. Unfortunately currently Acrobat forbids the installation of these IDs.
Does anyone know if this is going to change in the future?

Hi Dom,
If you enable FIPS mode in Acrobat or Reader, then the ability to create a self-signed digital ID is disabled. You want to set the following registry entry (making sure Acrobat or Reader is closed):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\<version>\AVGeneral
bFIPSMode=1
or
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\<version>\AVGeneral
bFIPSMode=1
This was introduced in version 8.1 so <version> will be either "8.0" or "9.0". Also, this will only works on Windows; the FIPS compliance setting was not implemented on the Mac or Linux platforms.

Annoying message shows after installing fb video calling

2 days back from now , i installed fb video calling software straight from fb, after finishing the installation a message popped at my screen that i need to install java runtime environment to show the web contents, i did by clicking on the link, i installed java 8 (31) which is the last update from java, now fb video calling works fine, but every time i start my macbook, the message shows again, which says to install java runtime environment , but i have installed it again few minutes ago, but after restarting macbook, the message shows up again, and when i click more info it goes to java site and if i click on ok, it close, every time i start my macbook it happens, its annoying to me, please hlep me

Install Snow Leopard Server Software on non server version mac mini (2009)

Recently purchased Snow Leopard Server software to install on a early 2009 mac mini (non server version) running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My goal is to set up and manage a server for a small group and leverage some of services from snow leopard server.
First of all, can server software be installed on a early 2009 mac min configured with Mac OS X Snow Leopard? This 2GHz Intel Core Duo mac mini has 2GB Ram and 120GB HD. Will the server software install remove the current snow leopard software or is there any special steps I need to take to get the server version software loaded on this mac mini. Any suggestions or advise is greatly appreciated.

Yes you can install it on your mini And Yes it will wipe the mini clean with a fresh install of the server software.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

I have installed the MTP software as well and it does transfer te playlists from WMP to the Zen Micro. The only problems I have had with the new firmware have not been firmware or Creative related but rather WMP related. It seems to be very picky about what it will transfer if you have it set to automatically convert to WMA-64 to save space. It gets hung up on some files during conversion or takes an unspecified error and skips the file to go to the next. What I actually have ended up doing is loading up MediaSource again without drivers for the player and used it to convert the files I wanted to WMA and then pointed WMP at that folder and it transfers them and the playlists fine. Now that I have read this post I will try Real's player as well to see how it works with it. This has only been a slight frustration though because I am trying to maintain the files in their original format and just conver the ones I am loading now. My wife owns an iPod and can load plenty of files in the higher bit rate that I ripped them off our cds in.Message Edited by AspenWiedii on 0-09-2005 07:09 AM

I was told by genius bar to install Yosemite, which I did. But that did not solve the problem. I removed macKeeper, as well, since a techie friend told me that could be the cause. Nothing so far has worked. When the problem first happened, it seemed to only happen in Chrome. Google voice calling out worked fine in safari, for about a day or so. Now I cannot call out from any browser. I can, however receive calls, and make calls within the video hangout.

Error 1335 When Installing Compact RIO Module Software 2.1.4 From Hard Drive

I’m having issues with the installation of the CompactRIO Module Software 2.1.4.
Initially, problems were occurring when trying to communicate with the device, as it was denying access to it from the Development PC. Various things were tried such as adding a ‘*’ to the fields and making sure 'Allow' was selected in the communication properties on LabView RT. This didn't seem to work. As none of this was working, we decided to format the disk on the Compact RIO and reinstall the software to it. The software downloaded from Ni.com was the CompactRIO Module Software version 2.1.4 (dated May 2007). This file was unzipped using WinZIP 9.0 (on a PC running Windows XP Pro SP2 5.1.2600) and then transferred with a USB stick to the Development PC.
We attempted to install the file on the Development PC (running Windows 2000 SP3 5.00.2195) by running setup.exe. This started normally, but then proceeded to come up with an error message saying: ‘Error 1335. The cabinet file ‘Cabs.w1.cab’ required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.’
Attached are screen shots of the error message that appears.
As a result of this error, the installation could not be continued and the module software was not installed.
What is going wrong with the installation and how can I go about sorting it out?

Thanks for the help overall, I finally worked it out. The problem was initially present in the unzipping of the original archive that had been downloaded from the NI.com website. When I had previously unzipped it, I had done so to a network drive which for some reason stopped autorun.inf and autorun.exe from functioning properly and so when I tried to install it on the Dev PC I got the aforementioned error. To overcome this problem I unzipped it to a local drive and (surprise!) there were no faults, so when installing the actual software, no errors appeared and it was installed correctly.
This however was not the only problem, the version that had now been installed did not want to co-operate with the RIO at all, and came up with various software errors in addition to not having all of the available software modules for the RIO available to install. The solution was then to install the newest RIO software, which is very badly labelled on the NI.com website by the way (its packaged as RIO software, so if you're looking explicitly for CRIO software you've got no chance of finding it). The newest version, 2.3 (Aug 07) as opposed to the 2.1.4 (May 07) that I was previously trying, worked fine and I was able to get all the software modules installed. So for now the problem is solved!

Is it ok to store non Premiere related files on my hard drive or is it better to keep it empty?

I just bought a new computer solely for using premiere pro and ableton live. I have one 2 tb hd and one 1 tb hard drive. I plan on using one hard drive for windows, and running programs (premiere and ableton) and the other for video and audio files. I am running out of room on my external drives and I have all this empty space on my new computer. My question is, is it ok for me to store files such as mp3s and non premiere related movies and documents on my new computer or will that mess with Premieres performance? It just seems like a waste to have all that hard drive space. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It really depends on what kind of performance you want or need out of your hard drive and how much miscellaneous data you are talking about. Here is the read performance of the current typical 2 TB hard drive. As you can see as the drive fills up your performance drops.significantly
