Installing of Grid Control failed at Repository Creation Assistant

I have a "clean" Windows Server 2003 machine (formatted hard disk, installed the OS and applied all service pack and critical system updates). I was trying to install Oracle Grid Control 10.1 for Windows.
Everything went OK until it reached the "Configuration Assistants" step. The "Enterprise Manager Repository Creation Assistant" step was failed. I looked into the log file and saw messages like this:
-------------------- (start) -------------------------
"'stty' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file."
Getting temporary tablespace from database...
Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=76.44.2.169)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=emrep.44.2.169))): ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
Repository Creation Failed
Repository Creation Assistant Failed
-------------------- (end) -------------------------
This got me puzzled. What problem could this be?
I realized that I was using DHCP, and I am now in the process of installing a loopback network adapter. But is there any other area I should check too?
Deecay

This ierror mean listener is not running ,start the listener and try again.

  • Install Grid Control and use repository within a DataGuard configuration

    Hello,
    I need some information if anyone has experience in the following
    We have severel database running in DataGuard standby configuration.
    I want to install OMS 11.1 and use the repository in a primary and standby configuration.
    My configuration will look like this:
    host 1     Primary Repository database
         OMS service 1
    host 2     Standby Repository database
         OMS service 2
    During normal operation i want to have 2 OMS services running.
    Whenever a failover is necessary, i want to active my standby database and run OMS service 2.
    Can this be a working configuration?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ben

    Hi.
    As far as I know, the dbconsole installed with the Oracle database applies for only one database on one server. The information accessed by the dbconsole relies within the sysman schema inside the actual database. For a database environment with 10 databases, it is possible to install grid control and manage all these databases despite version and OS. And I think that grid is a good solution to such an environment.
    The grid installation itself is a application server installation, and I suggest if possible that you separate the rdbms server and the server that contains the grid control.
    The repository database the grid control uses can either be installed in the 10g environment or in the grid control environment (server). You can place the repository in a new database in a separate ORACLE_HOME from the actual grid control application server.
    Good luck.

  • Patching new install of Grid Control 10.2.0.1 with 10.2.0.4 fails

    I just installed 10.2.0.1 Grid Control including standard repository. I want to install 10.2.0.4 patch. After successful installation, I shut down OMS and attempt to run the patch 3731593 which is the 10.2.0.4 patch. Only the listener and repository are running. OUI pops up a message box saying there are background dbms jobs currently running and to wait for them to complete. Message suggests I execute SQL procedure emd_maintenance.remove_em_dbms_jobs to stop all running jobs. This results in message 'emd_maintenance.remove_em_dbms_jobs' must be declared error. It says try select count(*) from dba_jobs_running run_job (etc) which I run and it shows 1 job is running. How do I stop this job? I tried rebooting and then just restarting the DB and listenener and the error remains. Still says 1 job is running and I can't install the patch!
    The standard DB installed with GC 10.2.0.1 is 10.1.0.4. Do I need to patch that first to a later version? Should I just give up and uninstall and start with a fresh install of a later version of the database and then install Grid Control using an existing DB? I want to use this for provisioning.
    thanks for any helpful hints.
    Carolyn

    Hi Carloyn,
    I have recently installed grid control, and its all fine.
    I would say you uninstall everything
    Install again 10.2.0.1
    at the time of patching make sure everything is shutdown, agent, oms and repository
    It will be fine.
    to upgrade the repository database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.3 is optional. I have not yet upgraded it, my argument is that oracle docs says that the upgrade is optional and if it would have been important, oracle would have incorporated the upgrade.
    So I would say, leave it alone.
    I would also say that installing database first and then gc might not be a very good idea.
    feel free to contact me at [email protected]

  • Installing EM Grid Control 10.2.0.3 with Database 10.2.0.3 On RHEL4 U3 & U4

    Note: This is not an official document, it discusses Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (EMGC) installation on Redhat Linux Update 3 & Update 4 with new database NOT with an existing database. Both OS Updates were installed with FULL PACKAGE INSTALLATION option. Oracle Universal Installer creates the database automatically before creating the EMGC repository.
    •     For Linux the base version of the EMGC is 10.2.0.1 and for Windows platform it is 10.2.0.2.
    •     The database release is 10.1.0.4 with EMGC 10.2.0.1.
    •     When installed it creates three Oracle Homes: 1) db10g (database), 2) oms10g (Oracle Management Service), and 3) agent10g.
    Course of Action:
    To get to Oracle EMGC 10.2.0.3:
    •     Install EMGC 10.2.0.1
     Upgrade Oracle Home oms10g to 10.2.0.3.
     Upgrade Oracle Home agent10g to 10.2.0.3.
    To get to Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.3:
    •     Oracle Database 10g 10.1.0.4 will get installed by the OUI automatically
     Upgrade Oracle Database 10g to 10.2.0.1 in new Oracle DB Home.
     Upgrade new Oracle DB Home to 10.2.0.3.
    ====================================
    Installing EM Grid Control 10.2.0.1:
    ====================================
    To install EMGC 10.2.0.1 download all the three files: Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk1.zip, Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk2.zip, Linux_Grid_Control_full_102010_disk3.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/linuxsoft.html.
    If you have unzipped all the downloaded zip files in separate directories then the very first error message slammed at your face after starting the installation will be something like “OUI-10133: Invalid Staging Area. There Area No Top Level Components”. All you have to do is to unzip all the three files in the single directory (Metalink 395030.1).
    After unzipping all the files in the same directory follow the steps that are given on the follow URL.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gemgc_10202/install/install.htm
    BUT the problem is that you will be punched with few other error messages during the installation that will terminate the installation. The WORKAROUND is given below.
    There are three stages of the installation by OUI:
    1.     Installation of EM Repository Database 10.2.0.1.
    2.     Installation of EM Grid Console 10.2.0.1.
    3.     Installation of Agent 10.2.0.1.
    The first stage completes without any problem and on the OUI you will see: Oracle Enterprise Manager Repository Database 10.2.0.1.0 installed. While installing the Grid Console, during copying files for "Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2" at 90% OUI will pop up an error message "An error occurred during runtime." You will see lines similar to the following lines in the installation log files.
    INFO: Calling Action SpawnActions10.1.0.3.0 Spawn

    Problem:
    There is a bug which is still being worked on by the DEV : Bug 5203165 : Abstract: CANNOT EXECUTE ../oms10g/bin/OracleAs_Relink_Patch.sh AT INSTALL
    Note that this is an unpublished bug, not viewable via Metalink. The bug apparently occurs only on RHEL4 (32bit) Update 2 and Update 3 (I faced the same thing in Update 4 as well).
    Workaround:
    •     Leave the error message as it is and change the execution permission of the script OracleAS_Relink_Patch.sh.
    $ chmod +x /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/bin/OracleAS_Relink_Patch.sh
    •     Now press Retry on the error message pop up window. The installation will resume.
    On the same stage while linking at 90% one another error message will pop up “Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/sqlplus/lib/ins_sqlplus.mk'”.
    Problem:
    Hitting bug : 5203194 :Abstract: RELINK FAILS ON 10.2 GC INSTALL -LIBCLNTSH.SO: UNDEFINED REFERENCE TO NNFGTABLE
    Bug is not published in Metalink. As per the description: Installing 10.2.0.2 Grid Control on RHEL4 Update 2 or Update 3 (I faced the same thing in Update 4 as well). This generates an error in the linking phase. The error is generated while attempting to relink sqlplus.
    Workaround:
    •     Stop installation of all components.
    •     Restart the installation and pick the option to resume the installation.
    •     This allows the installation to complete.
    If by any chance you press continue instead of stopping the installation you should get ready for the garbage OUI is going to throw at you:
    Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk'
    Error in invoking target 'install' of makefile '/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/oms10g/network/lib/ins_nau.mk'

    Upgrading EM Grid Control 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3:
    ====================================
    I hope after installing EMGC 10.2.0.1 you are still intending to upgrade it..... :-D Now for that download GridControl_10.2.0.3_Linux.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oem/htdocs/linuxsoft.html and follow the README.txt file included with the upgrade patch. Before starting the upgrade you will probably have to apply a patch (4329444) on the existing database (10.1.0.4). Anyway, its one of the prereq that you have to complete.
    For upgrade follow the steps given on the following URL.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gemgc_10203/patching/patching.htm
    •     Keep one thing in mind that you will have to apply the above mentioned patch twice. Once for oms10g home and once for agent10g home.
    •     Stop all the EMGC related services.
    •     When applying the patch to a particular home change the ORACLE_HOME to that home. E.g. when applying the patch on the oms10g home:
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2.0/oms10g
    and for agent10g home:
    ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/product/10.2.0/agent10g
    ====================================
    Upgrading Database from 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.1:
    ====================================
    Download the file 10201_database_linux32.zip from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201linuxsoft.html.
    •     Shutdown all the EMGC related services, the listener, and the database.
    •     Start the installation of 10.2.0.1.
    •     Since 10.2.0.1 is a base release that is why you cannot install it in the existing Oracle Home i.e. in db10g. You have to define a separate Oracle Home for the new installation say db10gR2.
    •     During the installation it will ask you to upgrade the existing database 10.1.0.4 to 10.2.0.1, click YES.
    •     Hopefully the installation will go just fine.
    ====================================
    Upgrading Database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3:
    ====================================
    Download the file p5337014_10203_LINUX.zip from http://metalink.oracle.com.
    •     Shutdown all the EMGC related services, the listener, and the database.
    •     Start the installation of 10.2.0.3.
    •     During installation it will ask for the Oracle Home, give the new Oracle Database Home i.e. db10gR2 and proceed.
    •     Hopefully the installation will go just fine.
    •     Start the database, listener, and all the EM GC related services:
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../oms10g/bin/emctl start em
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../agent10g/bin/emctl start agent
    o     $ORACLE_HOME/../oms10g/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall
    •     Try accessing the EMGC through the browser http://xyz.abc.com:4889/em
    •     You will see two Oracle databases in the EMGC, the old one, 10.1.0.4 and the new one 10.2.0.3. Don’t worry it will not bother you at all. It will only occupy a GB or so. Though, you can remove it through OUI.
    Congratulations!!!! you have now Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10.2.0.3 with Database 10.2.0.3 on RHEL 4 Update 3.
    You can repeat the same exercise for RHEL4 Update 4 as well, but during pre-installation checks you will get 1 warning that:
    Checking for compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for openmotif-21-2.1.30-11; found openmotif-2.2.3-10.RHEL4.5. Failed <<<<
    Actually, these packages are already there in the OS but the higher versions. It is evident from the above messages that first it “founds” the package but due to the version conflict it says that “Not found”. All you have to do is click on the check box next to warning, it will change to User Verified or something. Now press Next and follow the same steps that we followed for Update 3.

    The quicker way is to use sofware only method to install 10204 oms and dirctly use 10203 datbase directly as a oms repository.
    Check the section Installing 'Software-Only' and Configuring Later

    Good question, rozester.
    I encountered this problem also, while trying to install the SSO MRCA 10.1.4.3.1 on 64-bit RHEL5 (though it's at version 5.7 but I'm positive that won't make any difference to the result).
    This may or may not match your situation, but when I looked in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/repca/log/repca_<datestamp>.log, I saw what was probably the reason behind the error:
    <$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
    When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
    Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-)

  • Error while installing OEM Grid Control

    I am getting error while installing OEM Grid control (with existing database) at OMS Configuration. So, I cancelled the installation and deleted all databases and started the instal again. I am still getting an error at OMS configuration.
    I am trying to read through the threads here to see if anyone has solved it. I see a lot of threads on this topic but not sure how you guys resolved it.
    Can anyone help here.
    In the oracle installer, I see the message : The c:\oraclehomes\agent10g\cfgtoollogs\configToolfailedCommands" script contains all commans that failed, were skipped or cancelled ....
    --in this file, all I see is:
    rem Copyright (C)1999, 2006 Oracle
    oracle.sysman.emcp.agent.AgentPlugIn
    How should I proceed
    Thanks

  • Installing OEM Grid Control not complete?

    Hi,
    I've installed OEM Grid Control on Solaris 5.10
    Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 2 (v10.2.x)
    Full Installers (Agent, Repository, OMS, and Management Packs)
    from link
    but no OMS ha been installed.
    I had no choice during the installation process to mark it as well as other components like: Agent, Repository.
    Is it not enough to use Disk1/.../runInstaller ???
    Can anybody advice me how to install it completely (without patches, they blur the process to me, at present)
    ?

    Yes, that should be enough. After that you have to choose one of the 2 choices and click next
    1) Enterprise manager 10g grid control using new database
    2) Enterprise manager 10g grid control using existing database.
    Thanks,
    Tarun

  • Installing Oracle10g Grid Control - - - management service hostname

    Oracle 11g R1 RHEL 4 64bit
    Grid Control 10.2.0.4
    HI All,
    I am installing the Oracle agent and when I get to the 'Specify Oracle Management Service Location' screen it asks for the 'Management Service Host Name'. Is this the same as my database server hostname? I'm not sure what to put here. When I do put the database server hostname in, then it says it can't locate port 4889 on that server. However, if you keep going through the install everything succeeds in the end. BUT, when I go to the link http://<management_service_hostname>:4889/em then nothing shows up. I am new with grid control. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Great. Thanks for your reply Bobcatalog!
    Now I just want to get this all cleared up before I proceed with the installation. So here is what I am thinking of doing and please tell me if I am wrong, missing something or should do it another way.
    1. Install OEM Grid Control 10.2.0.3 on a new host (server) which has nothing on it (i.e. no Oracle products - - - clean host) and then patch it to 10.2.0.4.
    - I will use the create new database option, which will create the EM Repository database
    - I will (or it will) install the OMS as well as the OMA (Oracle management Agent)
    (Question: Should I install OEM Grid Control on just a regular filesystem or use ASM with it? I heard that there are issues with using ASM. If it will increase my chances of failure, then I will stay away from it...even though all our environments (DEV, PROD, QA) use ASM.
    2. Install the OMA agent on each of the database servers (which are called 'targets') that I want to monitor.
    And that is all that I will need to do, correct?
    Thank you.

  • What's the correct order to install OEM Grid Control + DB + AS?

    Hi everbody! I'm getting start on OracleAS and Grid Control.
    What's the correct order to install:
    * Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control
    * Database 10gR2
    * Application Server 10gR3
    (on RHEL4-Upd2)
    or the order is not important?
    I need have the environment for each oracle software ($ORACLE_HOME, $ORACLE_BASE)? Or install first one, and change the environment and install, change again and install, etc.. ? :)
    Tks!

    Hey Rafael! You only have to use the Grid Control CDS, AS, repository database and grid control software are installed automatically, so you dont have to worry about the order u should have to follow.
    Anyways if u have already installed a database u can use that one as a repository.
    about the enviorment variables i guess u´ll be prompted for just one only directory cause u only need to install the software only one time.
    hope u find this interesting!!

  • Installing OEM grid control on Linux 64 bit

    Was someone able to install OEM grid control 10.2.0.1 on a RedHat linux 4.0 x86-64. I Know that it is not certified yet but most of the time it is possible to install a 32 bit application on a 64 bit OS.
    Thanks

    Yes, I have it installed. (let me tell you though, it wasn't easy!). A few notes:
    1. Download and install compat-oracle-rhel4-1.0-5.i386.rpm from http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/files/RedHat/
    (this essentially puts a wrapper around gcc and transforms it into a shell script)
    2. Modify /usr/bin/gcc to look like this (add –m32):
    exec /usr/bin/gcc32 -m32 -static-libgcc -B/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/ "$@"
    3. Execute “linux32 bash”
    4. Run the installer.
    Hope that helps.
    P.S.: The installer might fail to detect the rpms below. Just make sure you have them installed.
    compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2
    libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1
    openmotif-21-2.1.30-11

  • Metadata Repository Creation Assistant fails with ORA-01119

    <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

    Hi All,
    My DB version is 10.1.0.2 and I've upgraded the same to
    10.1.0.4.2
    In order to install B2B, I started off by installing the
    Metadata Repository Creation Assistant.
    After the initial steps, I got the following message:
    <h5>
    OracleAS RepCA was not able to find the Oracle Text Supplied
    Knowledge Base in the database specified. </h5>
    <h5>If you are planning to use this repository for installing
    OracleAS Portal, you have to install Oracle Text Supplied Knowledge Base.
    Oracle Text Supplied Knowledge Base can be installed in the database using
    Oracle Database 10g Companion CD.</h5>
    <h5>
    If you are not planning to use this repository for
    installing OracleAS Portal, you may continue further. Continue? Yes/No?</h5>
    I continued with "Yes" and I chose the storage option as
    "Regular or Cluster File system". In the next step -<strong>Specify Tablespace
    information</strong>, I chose to install it in the C:\ , where there was approx 18GB
    of free space. Yet, I encountered the following error:
    <h5>
    Unable to create tablespace. Please see the OracleAS RepCA
    log file for more details.</h5>
    <h5>ORA-01119 error in creating database file 'string'</h5>
    <h5>Cause: Insufficient space on device or invalid database file
    path.</h5>
    <h5>Action:</h5>
    <h5>a) Verify the database file path specified.</h5>
    <h5>b) Decrease the size of the requested file or allocate a
    file on another device with more available space. If a file size was not
    specified in the statement, then specify a file size smaller than the available
    space on the device.</h5>I have verified the database file path. I also tried
    decreasing the size. I further tried using another directory where there was
    11GB of free space. It still didn't work.
    Please HELP!
    -Suhas.

    Hi Suhas,
    Can you please do the following?
    1.     Please try pointing to C:\b2b.dbf file during installation and see if the installation goes fine or not.

  • How to install EM Grid Control ?

    Hi,
    I try to install EM Grid Control on my Solaris system.
    Choosing "Installing EM with new database" the installer will terminate with the error message: "SYSTEM password is wrong."
    Does anybody know wich is the correct one ?
    Choosing "Installing EM on existing datbase" everything works fine. But I'm unable to login ?
    Which are the correct username/passwords I have to enter when starting the brower at http/<hostname>:1810/em ?
    Thanks for any help or ideas.
    Regards,
    Rainer

    I am also having this problem using the XP version. Initially I got around it by selecting the "Restore" rather than "start" and I only got the request for the database login, which is initially for "sys" your installation password. This worked the first time I had the problem. Now I have successfully migrated and Access db to the intallation and when I tried to take the database down it prompted me with the same OS user and password combination followed by database user and password as before. But, now there is no way to get pass the OS username/password requirement. I have made multiple attempts as requested and nothing works. I have changed the username and password as administrator at the XP control panel and nothing works to satisfy this OEM login prompt. Thus I can't take the database down. I would appreciate any help in this area. Kind regards, Michael.
