Installing Office 2001, Palm Desktop

I just received my MacBook Pro and I'm trying to install Office 2001. After it was installed I could not open it because "Microsoft Word is not supported on ths system." Is it possible to use this version of Office, and if so, how? I also have an old version of Palm Desktop. Thanks.

No. Office 2001 is for OS 9. You need Office 2004 X for OS X. Palm Desktop may run if you get the latest version, but frankly I would avoid it like the plague and use Missing Sync for Palm by Mark/Space Software - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Note that you cannot use any OS 9 software on an Intel Mac. If you have other OS 9 vintage software you will have to upgrade it to a current OS X version or find a substitute that is compatible with OS X.
If you prefer there is a freeware suite that is pretty much fully compatible with Office 2004 X. It's called NeoOffice Aqua 2.2.1 - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Installing Office 2001 for Mac on new Mac Mini

I own a copy of Office for Mac 2001 that was used on my older iMac.
I thought I could install this on my new Mac mini with OS X. However, after attempting to install from my CD I get an error message saying it is not compatible on the system.
Does anyone out there know if you can infact use an older version of Office for mac on the new Mac mini's? Or, do I need to purchase the latest and greatest version of Office for my new system?
There's got to be a way... don't want t spend another $600 when I have the older version that works fine.
    Thank you!
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You need to install SheepShaver to use Classic and Classic applications such as Office 2001 on an Intel Mac. The current version of Office will run from Mac OS X, and all of its components except for Virtual PC run in Mac OS X on an Intel Mac.

    That was the next step.
I just needed to know what the OS of the PC was and the version of Palm desktop so I could tell you where to look for the correct folders.
Here is some more info. for you.
Click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/centro/centro_gsm/
There are links on the page to the user guide, troubleshooting, how to's, downloads, etc.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Installing and using Palm Desktop on a Win7 PC without admin rights

    Hi,
I've been using the Palm Desktop on all of my PC's for the past 15 years. I use a TX for daily replication of updates between my Work PC and Home PC. In addition, I use the DejaOffice solution for replication to an iPod Touch and an iPad Mini.
Last week my work PC was upgraded to Win7 and I lost my admin privileges on it. I can't install the Palm Desktop any longer.
Does anyone have an idea how I could get Palm Desktop to work and replicate on  a Win7 machine wihout admin privileges or whether there is any equivalent solution (Cloud, SAAS) where I could access Palm Desktop on my work PC?
    Thanks,
    Marcus

Hi PalmForever, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
AFAIK, you have to have admin piviledges to install Palm Desktop.  The common "work computer" routine was to beg and plead for temporary rights just to install, then they can be revoked back to user.

  • Problem installing Palm desktop... Please help!

I have windows XP home ed. and am trying to install the palm software that came with my new tungsten E2.  I also installed it on our main cpu first, which has winows Vista.  It installed fine on the "big" cpu, but not on my laptop.  The only problem with it on the big cpu is that the quick install doesn't work.  It gives me an error message and then takes me back to desktop manager.
For my laptop, I thought it may have been installed wrong.  I tried to remove program from control panel, but that won't even work.  It says error 1316, a network error has occured while attempting to read the file windows installer palmone.  then says fatal error during instalation.
Can I only put this on 1 cpu?  Is it interferring with my blackberry manager already on my laptop?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    hello
the quick install will not work with a vista pc
you have to install a different palm desktop which is palm desktop 6.2
    to download: http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html
palm desktop 6.2 has 'install tool' which is same as 'quick install' on the CD
for 1316 just follow the instruction on

  • Palm Desktop calendar 6.2.2 won't allow me to go past Dec 2011

I'm running 6.2.2 with Windows 7.  Noticed a few months ago that it crashes every time I try to look at January 2012 on the desktop software.  I was hoping there would be a fix but I can't seem to find anything.  Anyone else have this problem?  I tried downloading it again just in case there was a corrupted file initially.  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Zire 72

Try setting up a new username and see if you can access the calendar in Jan. 2012. If you can, you can try and import the calendar data from your username and see if you have the same problem. If you do then the data is corrupted and will need to be checked for errors. To check the calendar, you will need to use dbfixit and run it on your HH.
There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar. There is a manual avail. to download from the website.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.

  • Can I use my new Palm desktop software (Centro) to backup my old Treo 700p before syncing the Centro?

My computer crashed shortly before I upgraded to a new Centro.  I need to backup the data on my 700p so I can transfer it to the Centro.  Do I need to install the old Palm desktop first, or can I use the Centro software to back up the 700p?
    Thanks
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

The Sprint version of the Centro still ships with Palm Desktop 4.2, which should be the same as you were previously using with your 700p.
My understanding is that only the AT&T and Verizon versions of the Centro (and probably the new Unlocked Centro) ship with the new Desktop 6.2 by Access.
As for the bonus applications, I have the AT&T Centro and all of the bonus apps were actually accessed via online download directly to the phone. And if I remember correctly, Documents To Go v.10 including the desktop application, was also done via download rather than being installed on the disc.  Required entering the correct registration/activation codes.  I guess they've gotten away from including this software directly on the installation disc.

  • Palm Desktop Installation Problems

When I tried to open my Palm Desktop to sync my Tungsten E, I found that the program had become corrupted and would not open.
I decided that the best way of overcoming this problem was to download a fresh copy of Palm Desktop from PalmOne and re-install. This did not work, as the install kept stopping and a pop-up window would announce that a newer version of Desktop was already installed.
I then tried to un-install whatever remained of Palm using the Windows Add/Remove Utility but it kept telling me that there was a Network problem and would not Un-install even though we are not connected to a network.
Today I learned of the free RevoUninstaller utility which I downloaded, installed and ran. It identified a considerable number of leftover pieces of Palm files, keys, etc. which I allowed RevoUninstaller to delete.
This appears to have eliminated the issue of the "newer version of Desktop is already installed". However, during this new install, while the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard is installing "Registering Class Servers", I now get another error message as follows:
Error 1401. Could not create key.
    HKey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-839522115-1006\software \Classes
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
This is a single, home-based computer with two Users and not connected to a network. Can anyone help me sort out this problem.
    Thanks, Frank
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

Thanks for your suggestions. This whole problem started when I was unable to open Desktop and sync my Tungsten E. It appeared that the program had been corrupted. So I tried to uninstall and then reinstall using the downloaded the Desktop software (Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0) from PalmOne. I kept getting error messages so I followed some of the instructions that I found on previous postings on this forum.
I tried to uninstall the previous version listed on my computer (Version 4.1.0420) using the Windows Add/Remove Programs. This was unsuccessful as it would not uninstall.
I then edited the registry and deleted all evidence of Palm as suggested in the instructions. This also did not fix the problem.
I then downloaded the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility  and ran that to try to uninstall Version 4.1.0420. - This was again unsuccessful.
Then I tried to Install (Run) the downloaded "PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0" software again, the Palm Desktop Install Shield Wizard opened started the installation procedure and an error message opens that states "A newer version of  Palm Desktop is already installed". After clicking OK on the error message, Wizard terminates the installation and the page changes and instructs me as follows: "InstallShield Wizard completed. The Wizard was interrupted before Desktop could be completely installed. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, please run the installation again. "Click Finish to exit the Wizard".
Of course, running the installation again resulted in the same installation problem.
I then did some research on uninstallers and decided to download and install the free utility RevoUninstaller, and ran this utility.
RevoUninstaller identified 153 files, folders, keys, etc. from Palm which I subsequently agreed to delete. The program inserted a Restore Point before deleting all.
I then tried to Install Desktop again from the downloaded software PalmOne Desktop Win414EN.exe, Version 8.2.160.0 as I don't have a PalmOne Desktop CD. I did not get a CD when I purchased my Tungsten E new about 5 or 6 years ago.
During the installation of files, the Palm Desktop InstallShield Wizard gets to Registering Class Servers, stops and puts a new error message: Error 1401. Could not create key. Hkey_Users\S-1-5-21-299502267-1123561945-83952 2115-1006\Software\Classes. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
    I have several questions,
    Did I delete too much?
What is this Hkey and how can I have access to it?
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks for your anticipated help. Merry Christmas.
    Frank

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 / Edit menu does not have Send To option (MS Vista Premium SP1 32 bit with MS Office 2007)

I have a Palm Zire 31 and had been running the Palm Desktop 4.1.4 on a Windows XP Home SP3 computer for years.
I recently purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Premium SP1 (32 bit) and installed the Palm Desktop 4.1.4.  Everything seemed to work fine (including the Edit -> Send To Word, which is MS Office 2007 Word) until I tried to install software on my Zire with Quick Install. That is when I found out that I needed to upgrade to Palm Desktop 6.2.2.
I downloaded and installed Palm Desktop 6.2.2. There are a few glitches that I need to address. But the most important one to me is that the Send To command does not appear in the Edit menu (it should, according to the Palm Desktop help.)
Does anyone know how I can get that feature (Send To Word) to work (short of reinstalling MS Office)?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello Stan and welcome to the Palm forums.
Palm Desktop 6.x was developed by ACCESS, the company that owns the source code to the Palm OS, Palm Desktop, and HotSync Manager.  When they released Palm Desktop 6.x, some of the features of the older Palm Desktop 4.x where not included.  I don't have Office 2007 installed on my computer, but the Send To comand could be one of those features that didn't make the jump from Palm Desktop 4.x to 6.x

  • I Can No Longer Install Palm Desktop on a Reformatted Computer!

Since I reformatted my computer and patched it all the way back up, I can no longer install the Palm Desktop Software.  I put the disc in and it hangs at the installation dialogue box and slows my entire computer down.  So I pull up the task manager and my CPU is spiked at 100%, and iDriver.exe is the process hogging the CPU while eating hundreds of megs of memory.  Not only that but there are multiple instances of iDriver.exe right behind it with one instance of iDriverT.exe.  Also there are multiple msiexec.exe instances as well.  Once I kill the first instance of iDriver.exe the Palm Desktop installation stops.  I even downloaded the latest verizon version from this site and I'm having the same problem.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

there are so many installation errors that are caused by so many things. some are iDriver that's related to errors like 1607.
    try also these steps:
Error - 1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time
Update to the Latest InstallShield Installation Engines
    http://knowledge.macrovision.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108322&sliceId=1
When running into installation issues, it is always recommended that you use the latest InstallShield installation engines. This article contains steps on how to download and install the latest InstallShield engines for the installation version you are trying to install.
    What to do?
    Follow the Troubleshooting steps below:
Determine if the installation is compressed or uncompressed.
Launch Windows Explorer by pressing the Windows key + E or select Start > Run and type explorer.
Browse to the location of the installation files. For example, if the installation is on a CD, browse to the CD-ROM drive.
Search for the installation file. The typical names for installation files are setup.exe, update.exe, installer.exe, etc.
If the installation file is the only file in the directory (a single installation file), continue with the remaining suggestions in Step 1. Otherwise, if there are other files in the same directory as the installation file, continue to Step 2.
When a single installation file is run, it uncompresses the installation files into a temporary location (usually the Temp directory). Use these steps to find the installation in the temporary location:
Start the single installation file, but do not continue or cancel the installation dialogs.
Browse to the Temp directory. For further information on how to find the Temp directory, see Clean the Temp Directory.
Search for the installation file. The typical names for installation files are setup.exe, update.exe, installer.exe, etc. The uncompressed installation file should contain other files in the same directory. Continue with step 2.
Right-click on the installation file that you are trying to install and select Properties.
In the Properties dialog, click on the Version tab.
Look at the File Version field to determine the version number of the InstallShield engine you need. Follow the instructions for your version. If you started the installation in Step 1d, cancel it.
If the file version number is 2.0x or less:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
    Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.
If the file version number starts with 6:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\engine from the machine.
    Download IkernelUpdate.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for your installation.
If the file version number starts with 7:
Check if there is a file with a .msi extension in the same directory as the installation file.
    If Yes:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\7 from the machine.
    Download ISScript7.zip.
Unzip this file. For more information on unzipping files, see How Do I Unzip a File in Windows XP? or How Do I Use the WinZip Utility in Windows 2000 or Earlier?.
Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the ISScript engine for the version of the setup.
    If No:
If the file version is less the 7.01
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0700 from the machine.
    Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate700.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.
If the file version is greater than or equal to 7.01:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\0701 from the machine.
    Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate701.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.
If the file version number starts with 8:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\8 from the machine.
    Download ISScript8.zip.
Unzip this file. For more information on unzipping files, see How Do I Unzip a File in Windows XP? or How Do I Use the WinZip Utility in Windows 2000 or Earlier?.

Double-click the IsScript.msi file. This installs the IsScript engine for this version of the installation.
    If No:
If the file version is less the 9.01:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\00 from the machine.
    Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate900.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.
If the file version is greater than or equal to 9.01:
Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime\09\01 from the machine.
    Download InstallShieldEngineUpdate901.exe.
Once downloaded, double-click it. This installs the InstallShield engine for this version of the installation.
If the file version number starts with 9.5:

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2/Win 8 shows Media and Install? TRY THIS!

I now have a Windows 8.1 loaner from HP, and used it to compose this help file!   Thanks HP!
If Palm Desktop 6.2.2 only shows Media and Install, try this:  Right-click on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  The other modules should appear.
To make Palm Desktop "Run as Administrator" every time in Windows 8/8.1:
Close Palm Desktop, if open.  (This is a very important thing to always do when using 6.2.2 - it has been known to lose data when a computer is shut down without closing the program!)
Right Click on the Palm Desktop Icon in the Metro screen, then choose "Open File Location".  You will now see the actual file for the shortcut.
Right-click on the "Palm Desktop" shortcut file, then Properties.  Now pick the Compatibility Tab at the top.
At the bottom of the Compatibility Tab is a checkbox:  "Run this Program as Administrator".  Put a check in the box, then click OK  to close the window.
Try opening Palm Desktop, all the modules should appear.  You may see a box open when you close the program asking "Did the program run correctly?"   I picked "Yes", and it's been working fine since then!
If you have an older PalmOS device (pre T|E for example)  and still can't see any data after trying the above, you may need to use the PalmHotSyncSetup program available from pimlicosoftware.com.  This will translate the databases from the older style to one Palm Desktop 6.2.2 can process.

I have been having trouble since the new Windows patches came through.
Right click on your shortcut and select Properties
    Click on Open File Location
Right click on Palm.exe file and select Properties
    Select Run as Administrator
Also select run as Windows 7
    and apply.
Try to sync again and it should show all of your options.
