Welcome to the HP Forum.
It does not sound like you are getting to the point where it is software compatibility -- the download is not finishing.

General Instructions to Install the Printer Software
Reminder:
In most cases, the Solution Center has been replaced by the Printer Assistant.
The Printer Assistant shortcut will be installed on your Desktop during the last part of the installation.
Windows Operating System:
Create Restore Point: Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR Create a restore point Win8
Open HP Drivers & Downloads
Enter your Printer Model information
Select your Printer from the “Results” list
OR
Open HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer Series
Select your Printer from the “Results” list
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu
Click NEXT and Scroll down
Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
Select the Basic Driver, e-print, or Full Feature Software
Save the *.exe installation package(s) on your computer
The file(s) will likely save to the "Downloads “folder.
Be sure to look for Updates as needed for your installation. If available, you may download the Print and Scan Doctor and / or other programs from Category – Utilities.
If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select run as Administrator and install.
NOTES:
Look at the bottom half of the main webpage for your printer for helpful videos to assist with the installation of the printer software!
Scroll the video list back and forth until you find the video that most closely matches your situation.
If using a USB connection: Download and install the driver software before connecting a USB cable.
Ethernet: Connect the printer to the network and (Optional) assign the printer an IP address at the router. Once the printer is connected to the network, be sure the printer is switched on and then install the printer software.
After the initial installation is complete and working, check / install Category - Update
There is valuable information at the printer’s website, including sections for Manuals, Troubleshooting > How-to, Troubleshooting > Solve a Problem, and alerts and notifications for your printer. Be sure to take an extended look at what is available. Bookmark the page.

Install officejet 4500 g510g-m
im trying to install the office jet 4500 all in one to my computer please help to install
This question was solved.
View Solution.Wireless install is only possible with the G510n-z models of the Officejet 4500 series printer. I should be able to point you to the right software, if I know your OS, but you won't be able to set the printer up wirelessly. What OS are you using?

Driver for Officejet 4500 Wireless all-in-one will not install after upgrading to Windows 8.1
Upgraded to Windows 8.1 on Pavilion g6. Officejet 4500 Wireless all-in-one still prints but won't scan. Downloaded full feature driver. Installation quit giving error message 'file cannot be found'. Tried 'chat' sessions with no resolution
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello bob5e,
I am sorry to hear that you are unable to install successfully on your Windows 8.1 with your Officejet 4500 Wireless. I can see that the installation quits on you, giving you an error message. I am going to recommend trying a couple of things to hopefully make the installation successful.
1. First of all, try installing by using The Printer Install Wizard for Windows which finds the correct driver for your unit and installs it.
2. If that does not work, please try this next troubleshooting document step by step.

HP Officejet 4500 driver not installing HP Solution Center fully-so can't scan
New laptop w/ Windows 8....Have installed the right driver...but the driver isn't downloading the HP Solution Center suite, so I can't instruct the HP Officejet 4500 to scan. Printer is communicating w/ laptop. I don't use the online fax options, but am sure they wouldn't work either.
How do I get the driver to fully install the HP solution center so I can instruct the device to scan????CD didn't work. Download software, didn't work when it came to plugging into usb port, don't even get a BACK button, nothing. Printer not recognized by laptop. Did all the solutions/uninstall/install etc. Printer is working though, prints out the exact same thing each time I press the green button on the printer, but is not connected to laptop. So it's not the printer, it works.
Now what? -
I have a Toshiba Satellite A665 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Initially I installed the Printer software and Drivers from the product disc, connect via USB during setup as requested and the printer would work fine, until I shut it down at the end of the day. The next day, I get the message that the "Drivers for Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n are missing". This all started last October and continues. The Network diagnostic tool doesn't see the printer, but the Print & Scan Diagnostic tool identifies it, but then the program stops responding.
I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled the drivers and software from both the product disc and from hp.com at least 10 times. I have installed the basic setup as well as the full installation. the only thing I can think of is when the printer goes into power saving mode, I lose my wireless connection. It sounds like your printer IP address might be changing. Have you run the HP print scan doctor?
hp.com/go/tools --> HP Print and Scan Doctor
This tool will often find issues with printer driver installation.
I don't have a OfficeJet 4500 here, but if there is a wireless button you can push it, get the wireless menu, select IP address. Does this match the IP Address you find when you select "(Windows Start) --> All Programs --> HP --> HP OfficeJet 4500 --> Update IP Address" from Windows?
If they don't match, use the IP address from the printer and type it into the Update IP Address window. This may help...

Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message when installing the Officejet 4500 software. What is the exact error message on your computer? Could you send a screen shot of your exact error?
How will you be connecting this printer? Wireless or USB?
Please verify this information and I will assist you further.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Since most recent OS update, my iMac intel won't open my HP Officejet 4500 scanner. I have un-installed and re-installed the 10.8.3 update and the dame with HP drivers. I get the essage (HP scanner won't open because of a problem". The printer works, but not the scanner. Suggestions???
It's possible that you need new drivers from HP, in order to be compatible with OS X 10.8.3. Looking at HP website, they haven't released new drivers since last November. You might need to wait for new drivers or contact HP to push for an update.

To install an hp Officejet 4500
Do I use the software that comes in the box of the hp officejet 4500 or I have to download the software using Mac OS x Software Update, which I do not know how to do it?
Hi,
What exact operating system do you have on your laptop?
If you use a Windows XP, Vista or 7 Starter edition, only basic drivers are available and only a USB connection is supported by the operating system, A Windows Starter edition do not allow enough processes to run and communicate with a printer through the network. if you use any standard edition of Windows the full software will be installed.
The drivers below are intended for Windows XP, Vista or 7 (assuming it cover your operating system?):
