  • How do i update or install Windows XP sp3 onto a Windows XP sp1 which is already installed on my Imac version 10.4.11?

I really hope somebody can help me with my problem because its really getting on my nerves and im not really that "computer compatible"....... ha ha ha...
When I bought this Imac from my friend he already installed everything needed to run Windows xp BUT the problem is that it is SP1 and i want to put SP3 or if its better Windows 7 what do you think? For the last few months it really gives me a lot of errors en problems and it got VERY VERY slow now!!!
If im not wrong I know that on a normal Windows operating system when you go thru the things I when thru (errors and problems) you just backup and format and re-install the Windows?!?!?!?
AND here comes the real problem, my Mac's DVD ROM does not want to read CD's or DVD's anymore.... somehow it broke I still need to replace it...
so now I also need a way that I can do all this without a CD or DVD needed. im not shore if there may be a way to do it with a flash drive or external HDD or something...
Thank you very much if anyone can help me...
    Kind Regards

If your DVD drive no longer works then there is No way to install any Windows OS version. Apple has made it so Windows will only install from the Internal DVD drive. So you better stay with XP. Even if you wanted to upgrade to Snow Leopard you would need a working DVD drive to do that. you may be able to install Snow Leopard from an External DVD drive that connects to a USB port but I'm not sure you can use that external DVD to install Win 7.
With your system you are better off staying where you are as far as the OS X and the Windows version you are now using. Except updating XP to SP3.
If you really need Win 7, which at this time there are No programs that run on Win 7 that will not run on XP (Maybe MS Office 2013 but other then that no program NEEDS Win 7 or Win 8 to install or run) you'd be better off buying a new computer, Mac or a Win PC. If Windows is your Main Operating system then you might consider buying a Real Win PC.

  • Latest version doesn't install properly in Imac and Macbook Air 10.6.8

Flash Player is not working proprly on my Imac nor on my MBA, after installing and reinstalling latest version of FP many, TOO MANY times for the past week.
On most of youtube videos, but not all (i.e. "Dumb ways to die" works!) I get a message that says I need to install the new Flash player. When I go to the link provided, or directly to the Adobe web site, and install the Flash player, I continue to get the message telling me I need a new flash player.
I'm using Safari 5.1.9 and my OS is 10.6.8. Javascript is allowed under the security tab.
When I run the Adobe help for Flash, I get a blank box where I should see my version of flash and my operating system.
I also get the same error in other websites like Google maps, when I try to do a "street view" for example, and TV on demand.
Please Help! Should I revert to installing an older version? I wasn't having this problem until I updated to FP 11.8...
    Thanks

Download the offline installer here: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg
Mount the DMG and run the installer
If it won't run, go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the Flash Player.plugin file from there
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder (the whole folder)
    Empty the trash
    Reboot
Mount the DMG and run the installer again.

  • I just tried to install Photoshop 4.0 to my iMac (version 10.9.3) and I was informed that there was an error with the software.  I could not install it.  Where do I go from here?

I just tried to install Photoshop 4.0 to my iMac (version 10.9.3) and I was informed that there was an error with the software.  I could not install it.  Where do I go from here?

Photoshop 4.0 is not compatible with MAC 10.9.3 . You will face issues as when Photoshop 4.0 was launched there was no MAC Mavericks and Adobe has not tested the version on new MAC OS.
If you want you can download the latest version of Photoshop CC 2014 and you can use it as a trial for 30 days and you can plan to switch to the latest version.

  • Just installed OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 - My Apple USB Keyboard now refuses to work.  I'm using a iMac Retina5K 27inch Late 2014 - any suggestions?

Hi I've just installed OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 - My Apple USB Keyboard will no longer work.  Any suggestions?  (iMac Retina 5K, 27inch Late 2014) Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the assist.  Looks like there is a glitch in the new software, as I did as you suggested, removed other USB devices, powered off.  Then plugged in the keyboard - re started and hey presto it worked.  Thanks v.m.

  • HT1752 What are the latest versions of OS X (and OS X 10.4) that I can install on my iMac Power PC G4 (17-inch Flat Panel)?

    Hey guys,
I was just wondering as to what the latest versions of OS X (and OS X 10.4) that I can install on my iMac Power PC G4 (17-inch Flat Panel) are?
Any information would be much-appreciated, as ANYthing that would make this baby run a bit quicker (withOUT burning a massive hole in my pocket) would be a GREAT help!!! (;-D)

The highest version of the Mac OS that runs on PowerPC Macs is 10.5.8. The last iteration of OS 10.4 was 10.4.11.
As 10.5 has more overhead than 10.5, I doubt it will make any speed differences and may knock speed down a notch or two. It did on a G4 tower I have with specs similar to the last of the G4 iMacs.
    Things that help:
    1) Max out the RAM. If you post more details about your iMac from Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info... we can see how much more RAM you model can accomodate (different G4 iMacs have different RAM specs; with modern modules, some can double the max amount of RAM the outdated Appel Specs call out).
    2) See if the hard drive is getting too full. Although it varies with hard drive sides, for legacy Macs you want no less thant about 15 percent of the hard drive space free.
    3) In OS 10.4, run the periodic maintenance scripts manually. Link :Running the Mac OS X maintenance scripts
If it's web video that's slow, you can't fix that. Most web developers use modern video technology that has abandoned any efforts to be optimized for pre-Intel mac processors.

  • 24" Imac Version 6.1 need help.

I have a 24" IMac Version 6.1, with an Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT card. The computer froze 2 days ago with a strange square artifact appearing on the screen. I had to hold the power button to shut it down. When i rebooted it just got stuck at a gray screen. I tried all the keyboard tests, but nothing seemed to help. I can't even boot from the install disc. The hardware test did actually run, but found no errors. So I gave up. Next day it did boot up, seemed fine, then five minutes in I had all these strange geometric shapes and distorted images on the screen until it froze up again, and now back to the gray screen. Any ideas? Could the video card be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mike

I was facing the same problem with my iPhone5 (IOS 7.1), and ended up with this thread for solution.
Turning off dial assist (settings -> Phone ->Dial Assist) worked for me but I had to *restart* my iPhone to get it working.

  • Getting error when installing on my iMac

Aaaaarrrrr. I'm ready to throw my mac out the window.
Here's what I have: iMac 1.25 GHz PPC G4 w/ 512 MB. I am running on OS X 10.2.8. I am trying to install my full retail version of Tiger; however, when I run the installation I get the message "Unable to install. Please try installation again"
This is what I'm getting in my log:
-Verify/Repair failed with error -9972 (The underlying task reported failure on exit)
-Install failed: Target volume is damaged and cannot be repaired by the Installer.
I have run and verified my disk permissions and have all of my updates installed. Nothing seems to be helping. Suggestions?????

Repairing Permissions won't help this problem.
You have to Repair the HD booted from the Install disk, look for a menubar to show up at one point, then look for Utilities>Disk Utility.
Or you can boot up in Single User mode, by holding CMD+s, then type in...
    fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
Or you can et DiskWarrior, or TechTools.
Or, if you don't need the data on the HD, you can try reformattin it usin the Zero Data option.

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • How do i install Mac OS X version 10.6.8 on my computer from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

how do i install Mac OS X version 10.6.8 on my computer from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Mac OS 9 will NOT install on 350MHz iMac

recently i acquired an old imac g three, and it has 256mb of ram and it had a password set on it so i decided to format the disk and installed 10.2 on it. turns out in order to install panther i need to install the firmware update so i have to make a partition of os 9 and install it. problem is the computer will NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISC. i have tried holding c, holding option, and formatting at least three times (while checking install mac os 9 drivers) to install the outdated abandonware and IT DOES NOT WORK.
could it have to do with the pram battery being out? i know some people who have this problem however. it's very annoyig and i just want to get this thing back on its feet.
thank you if you can help.

The 350 MHz iMacs built between Oct. 1999 and July 2000 (model identifier PowerMac2,1) originally shipped with OS 8.6.  These came in six colors:  Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime, and Graphite.  You need a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on this iMac.
The 350 MHz iMacs built between July 2000 and Feb. 2001 (model identifier PowerMac2,2) did ship with OS 9.0.4.  These came five colors:  Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Snow, and Graphite.  You'd need an OS 9 original disk for these machines or a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on it.
Apple made hardware specific original OS install disks for each model of iMac that shipped.  If you put these original disks in a machine that didn't have the correct hardware, they wouldn't work.  So you may have a copy of OS 9 that was shipped with a different version of the iMac you have.
You can check eBay for retail copies of OS 9.
All that being said, it might just be the PRAM battery.
    Good luck.
