Installing on Gentoo Linux
Hi,
I'm trying to install JRocket 8.1 sp1 on Gentoo Linux (kernel v2.4.23) with problems:
1) I have to use "-mode=console" to force it process in console mode, otherwise it just hang there after extracting itself.
2) When choosing the BEA home directory. I have to accept the default one "/root/bea" otherwise it hangs again.
Regards,
Nevin
JRockit 8.1sp1 is supported on the platforms described in this link
http://edocs.bea.com/wljrockit/docs81/certif.html. Other Linux versions
could work if you try.
I haven't seen the problem you are describing, maybe someone else in this
news group has any input.
Kind regards,

Hello All,
Did anybody try to install OCS on Gentoo Linux? What is your experience about it?
Yes, I know, RH AS is the right OS.
Some people likes make things not in right way. And those guys move World. ;)I am thinking about trying the same thing. I have been pulling my hair out for the last month trying to get the Singlebox Install running on a RedHat 7.3 server. The documentation on this product is deplorable, not to mention that RedHat is the absolute worst linux distribution I have ever seen. I now know why I dropped it in favor of SuSE at version 5.0 and why I dropped RPM based SuSE for Gentoo at version 7.2.
Why does Oracle certify their software for the lousiest most proprietary linux distros out there? The support contracts from the companies are great, if you want to go that route, but if I wanted to go that route I would pay all of the money and sacrifice all of the performance and go with Windows.
Corporations are ruining linux by embracing it and not understanding the fundamental ideologies that went into creating it, with the exception of IBM. A community help system where people are willing to help you as long as you're willing to a) ask for help, and b) work to try and find the answer before you ask. I dont want to pay for support, I dont want it for free either, I'm willing to work for it.
I am currently working on reverse engineering the package versions and dependancies of SuSE Enterprise Server 8.0 and I am going to build a custom Gentoo box with those packages. If you are interested in my findings and results let me know and I'd be glad to share with you and the rest of the world, unlike Oracle, RedHat and SuSE.
I'm also thinking about talking to the Gentoo developers and forums to find out if they're interested in hosting a forked branch of the distro, because the package dependancies are pretty specific from what I can tell.
I think it's great that world class software companies such as Oracle are embracing linux and supporting it fully, but they need to move away from the linux distributions that are poisioning the open-source philosophy. Oracle should, in my opinion compile on a more vendor neutral distribution such as debian, gentoo or slackware. Then release the package requirements and let the end user decide which distribution they want to use, not the other way around. -
Anyone gentoo linux ? I seek for a good use flags set
I install funtoo (gentoo with the stage file from here) stage 1 on my box
The system is my notebook - a thinkpad core duo
Im teenager in the sense of things I need from it - to be fast and lightweight (at very least as fast as arch default minimalistic install), compatible with everything, capable of p2ping wireless when I skateboard with it, have all needed stuff inside but not be bloated (boot / response time), and be as cool as linux can be
I prefer KDE 3.5 desktop. No gnome. Some *boxes but i dont need full functionality in them.
I dont accept any proprietary stuff on the computer. I may accept a binary firmware file to be uploaded to a device (with a ) but strict 'no' to blobs etc
Things that are patented but implemented entirely in open source (like linux mp3 support) are considered free (there are no sw patents where I live)
Plz paste them here from make.conf
CFLAGS etc will be accepted and thanked tooKorey Kaczynski wrote:
What's the point? Some proprietary programs are pretty good, such as Skype, Opera, Cedega, and others. Open source is a good model for software development, but it's not the end-all-be-all of computing.
Also, what about computer games? Those are proprietary, usually for good reason
I use open source cause i like it. To me heaving a 'clean' computer is kinda proof of concept that I can live my way and not depend on stuff I dont like
Some closed software I simply dont trust. This includes skype and some wireless drivers
If a friend of mine wants to talk with me via skipe I tell him to install any SIP client from the list in wikipedia
I have an intel ipw3945 wireless card in the laptop. I just did not install it. Now when there is at last a driver without blobs (except an image that is blindly uploaded into the card) I accept this
I really dont play any computer games. I didnt play them (except some old dos games) when I used windows either -

Error installing jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin
h3. Hello,
h3.
I'm trying to install jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin on a Linux(centos 5.1) system. I get the results at the end of this post after accepting the license agreement. I haven't found anything on the web or the bug database that has been helpful. I'm really at my wits end and could use a helping hand.
h3.
Thanks in advance.

I guess, you can find the solution to your problem here:
It works well on Ubuntu, but since the error on Ubuntu looks exactly the same as on Centos, I think it should work for you as well.
Cheers,

I want to install a third operating system on my macbook pro. I already have windows and i want install unix or linux in there. Is it possible??
Yes, it's possible, but if your Windows system is on a Boot Camp partition then you have to first remove it. Then create however many partitions you want for the operating systems. You have OS X on one, so you need two more - one for Windows and one for Linux. You then install Windows and Linux separately to their respective partitions. Download rEFIt
Use it as the replacement bootloader so you can properly boot from each OS properly. -

You can get the installer to function using the following steps:
- extract the cal_linux_*.tar.gz, and cd into the OracleCalendar_inst directory
In there is the actual installer, cal_linux.
- the cal_linux is shell script wrapped around some binary blobs. The installer's
problem is that Oracle is setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 environment
variable, which is a mistake on RHEL5. You need to make it not set that variable,
but you need to do so in a way that the size of the shell script does not change at all,
and none of the binary blobs are impacted.
- the approach I took was
mv cal_linux cal_linux.BAK
sed -e 's/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL= /g' < cal_linux.BAK > cal_linux
chmod a+rx cal_linux
cal_linux -i gui
Note: you must have exactly 5 spaces in the substitution part of the sed command, because you're replacing 5 characters (2.2.5), and the size of the shell script must not change.
If you do that, the installer should run (one warning from awk still) and you should be able to install the product.

Cannot install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin
This is the scenario:
Hardware:
P IV, 3 GHz, HT enabled, 4 GB RAM DDR 1, DD SATA.
Software:
Linux Fedora Core 5, I've made "yum update" so I suppouse that everyting it's updated by now.
J2SDK:
jdk-1_5_0_06-linux-1586.rpm
I've setup JAVA_HOME so if i type "java -version" responds wtih the appropiate string: java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Run Time Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
I've installed succesfully Java Studio Enterprise 8 and seams to work fine, just did a new jsp and click on run, starts the web browser (mozilla) and appears the adequate page.
But when I try to install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin the installer responds:
"This application requires a Java Run Time Environment (JRE) to run. Searching for one on your computer was not successful. Please use the command line switch -is:javahome to specify a valid JRE. For more help use the option -is:help."
And that's all.
With or with out the switch it still not working.
Weird!!!, why is Java Studio Enterprise Working any way?
Am I using the adequate jdk?
Doesn't have the rpm package a jre bundled, why don't the package use their own jre?
I almost forgot, I uninstall all the java packages on my sistem an only reinstale the refered rpm, i hope all the other apps still work.Does the following thread help?
http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=123&threadID=96704
Thanks,

as you see all checks passed OK, but the whole install failed. What could be wrong? And what is XML parser init: error 54?
Edited by: 892273 on Oct 19, 2011 8:12 AMWhere's the WebLogic Server home???
Else you should attach this to an existing WebLogic domain
kind regards

Installing RAC on Linux 9.0
Hi friends,
I tried to install RAC on two intel based pc with 80gb firewire drive on Linux 9.0.
But, I could not succeed. I was wondering if someone please tell me that it is possible to install it on LINUX 9.0 because I cannot afford Linux AS 2.1.
I follow oracle documentation, Werner Puschitz Documents, I also follow Rampant press book "Installing RAC..". But no one really helps me as all they are talking about Linux AS 2.1.
Pleased help me in this. I really appreciate it.
Thanks and have a good day.
Bhavin
