Installing on mac mini without cd

Greetings, everyone!
So i've been trying to install Arch on intel mac mini. The problem is booting the installation image.
1.I can't manage it through the cd as it seems to be broken (auto ejecting every disk i insert into).
2.I've tried booting from usb with image file and that "dd" copy. Refit see the usb but print a lot of 'can't load' after booting from it, also it states that it probably would't work.
3. My another attempt was to put the same image by the means of "dd" on hdd partition. Well, refit see this partition as possible boot variant, but simply hangs when booting with no messages.
4. Finally, i try to copy all files from archlinux.iso to /efi/archlinux and put there elilo.efi and elilo.conf like this:
image=boot/vmlinuz26
label=linux
initrd=boot/archiso_pata.img
This time i've got "Loading elilo.efi" and it hangs again.
Now, i have no ideas for further attemps. Simply have not enough knowledge. I suspect that slightly modified 3th or 4th solutions may work, but what that modification? Any ideas?

So you did this:
# diskutil list
found the disk that is the usb device, then:
# diskutil umountDisk /dev/diskX
with X being the usb device, then:
# dd if=Arch.img of=/dev/diskX bs=1m

Photoshop Elements 11 installed on Mac Mini OS X 10.9.5. Application running successfully on bot main user and administrative accounts for considerable time with no warning messages. When established a new user account on same computer and try to call up elements receive message “Some ot the application components are missing from the Application directory. Please reinstall the application.” How do I correct this problem without disturbing application in main user account?

Brooks lansing if you create a new Administrator account does the same issue occur?  If so then it is likely that there is a file permission failure and file permissions have been set for the existing Users instead of the groups they belong to.
Have you removed and reinstalled Photoshop Elements 11?  This may reset the file permissions to the correct state to allow it to work under new accounts.

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!

Not sure what the B means.

No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

Is there any way to connect my Apple wireless/bluetooth trackpad and keyboard to my Mac Mini without using a wired or usb keyboard?

Well, I read that already, but I am trying to start up my Mac mini(new purchase) and I cannot get to all the system preferences etc since I cannot get past the startup screens. The site also mentioned waiting to turn on the keyboard until a language was requested. Neither language screen worked. I feel as though I'm just about ready to throw in the towel.

  • Is there a way of installing 10.4.2 on a Mac mini without password?

I am trying to help a friend who purchased a Mac mini from a relative a few years ago.
The OS needs reinstalling (too many faults to mention). I have the original install disc 1 and 2, but every time i try installing, the administrator password is needed. Unfortunately the first owner did not keep a record of it (all alternatives given have failed).
Is there a way of installing the OS without the administrator's password?
As a final attempt, i am a bit worried to erase all volumes using disc utility, because this might turn the mini completely useless if the OS will not install afterwards.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Um, I can't specifically answer that because I don't have a FV master password set and I am reluctant to set one just to see if I can unset it. I would think that if you do have one set it would only be requested if you were doing something related to FV. If you could provide cases where you are being asked for a password it might help us track down the reason. I am mostly asked for a password when I am adding software to the computer or doing some other administrative task. In that case it is asking for my admin password. The FV one I think is only as a backdoor to a FV account in case somebody has forgotten their password.

  • Install Windows7 on Mac Mini without Bootcamp

I just got a MacMini and wanted to install windows on it without using bootcamp but had no luck. I have been checkout out some hints over the past couple of days but nothing really worked. Prior to this I had never used bootcamp and saw this as an option but that didn't work either as I don't want to run windows on the side but rather replace the MAC OS entirely for Windows 7. I'm working on a project and needs Windows for the programs I need to use but I wanted a MacMini computer as its dependable and a good machine.
Anyhow got some advice on how to get my Mac OS X off this Mini and replace it entirely with Windows 7?
    Thanks a lot.

The computer is for a Windows environment, Its part of a project I am working on and the person who will use it, doesn't know anything about MAC. I don't want to have a MAC based computer that boots to MAC OS and then windows needs to be launched. What I am trying to do is have a Mac Mini with just windows 7 on it. Can you suggest how I do this?

  • Installing XP on mac mini without bootcamp

My apple mac mini was divided into three partitions (Macintosh, Vista and Linux) by my brother without using boot camp assistant (he used some other utility I think), and all these OSs work. Is it possible to install XP over the Vista partition, by inserting the XP CD and loading the XP setup from boot up and without using boot camp assistant?

Probably not. Try it and find out.

  • Reset my mac mini without install DVD

How can i reset my new Mac mini server without having a DVD with IOS Mountain lion server?

Restart your Mac Mini using the Command+R keys. This will boot you into the Recovery HD which will let you use Disk Utility to erase your Macintosh HD and Reinstall OS X both from the OS X Utilities Menu.

  • Win7 won't install in Mac mini SL w/no optical drive, crashes when accessing external HD

I've been trying to install win7 on my Mac Mini with 10.6.8 that doesn't have an optical drive.  I've been able to do the bootcamp partition just fine but when it goes to restart into the windows partition with the win7 disk in the external HD, my screen goes grey, then a green with purple border and then black.  I have to reboot and if I press the alt/opt key, I'm able to get into OSX again.  The research I've done shows I need to create a .iso file which I did with disk utility.  I created all types of .iso files, read only, compressed and dvd.cdr files.  Nothing is working.  Bootcamp is not recognizing any of the 5 thumb drives I've put the .iso files on as I read some drives aren't able to be recognized.  The external HD works as I reinstalled SL just fine using it.  My research also shows that win7 won't install from an external HD.  So I'm at a a loss as to how to proceed from here.  I went into my old windows machine to try to create a bootable thumb drive after I install win7 there but the Dell is so old, I don't have a DVD drive in it, only a CD drive.  And if I buy a downloadable version of win7 I still need to get it to a DVD or a thumb drive to get it installed.
Does anyone have any ideas?  I called Apple and their support ended at "well, we did our job by getting you to the BootCamp partition" which is a crock.  It's their design to take out the optical drive and now it's everyone else's problem!  Sorry, I know I've got attitude but I'm so frustrated!!
Thanks in advance!  I'm posting this here and in bootcamp discussion.

Hatter helped me out without even knowing he helped me out.  In cruising through the archives, he advised another problem seeker to unplug everything except 1 monitor, a mouse and a keyboard.  Which I did and that solved my problems at last.  I also burned my .iso file to a DVD with my MBP and it was able to be read by the external HD.  So keep searching the forums peeps, your answer may be there after all!

  • WiFi: "no hardware installed" on Mac Mini, OS 10.8.5

I realize that there are many existing threads on this error message, but they all seem to be related to laptops with spesific affected hardware and not a Mac Mini. So:
I have just gotten my mid 2011 Mac Mini back from service. They replaced a fauly motherboard. It was in twice. The first time I got it back home I just had the time to upgrade the OS before it collapsed again. I took it back and they replaced the motherboard anew. The one they had put in apparently had problems.
Now after the second repair job the old problems are gone but there is no WiFi. "No hardware installed" it says.
My problem is that if I take it back and have it repaired a third time and it turns out that this lack of WiFi is caused by a bug in OS 10.8.5 and not by their repair work, I will have to pay for it. The hardware is under warranty but the OS upgrade I have done myself. The Mac didn't come with OS 10.5 when I bought it from them.
So how do I know if it is a hardware faul or not? I have booted in recovery mode but there is no hardware found there either. Tried various other tips like disabling Bluetooth, deleting the old WiFi setup from the network panel, resetting SMC and so on. (Resetting nvram does not help with network issues Apple say, so I don't know why that is adviced in so many threads).

So it went in for service and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I tried everything before handing it in and rebooted without things plugged in and so on. But now it works. No loose parts either apparently.
So there we are. Everything is working fine again by itself. For now.

  • Initial setup using mac mini without monitor

    Hello,
I want to start the install of my new purchased mac mini with snow leopard server without connecting (or need to buy) it to a monitor to see what is going on.
I know that AFTER the initial start up/install, I would activate Screen Sharing in the Sharing preference pane from my other mac (macbook pro - Leopard).
My question is, how can I install the server version and see what is going on without attaching a physical monitor to it the first time?
    Thanks
    Lawrence

I was hooping I can just ssh to it or connect it to somehow via command line, start the basic install and set up the screen sharing. After this I can connect to the server via screen share...
    We don't have the monitors.
