Installing one 2 GB ram memory....Can I?

Hello everyone...
I just bought a 2 GB DDR2 SODIMM 667 for my MacBook Pro and when I was reading the instructions about how to install more memory in the laptop I noticed that it says " The maximum amount of memory you can install in your MacBook Pro is 2 GB, using 1 GB DIMMs in both memory slots", does this mean that I can not install "ONE" 2 GB memory in one of the slots and have 2.256 GB of RAM in total?
Please help... My MacBook Pro is from the very first batch when they came out...1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo...512 MB 667 MHZ RAM....Thanks in advance...

Actually, your MBP came with a single 512 MB stick and an empty slot (specifications are here), not 2 x 256 MB. So, you can install a single 1 GB stick for a total of 1.5 GB (or 2 x 1 GB sticks, and remove the 512 MB stick for use as a coaster or something ). 2 GB is the maximum your MBP can support.
You may read lots about "matched pairs" of RAM. What that means is that there's a very slight benefit by having 2 RAM sticks +of the same size+. However, the benefit from more RAM is much greater than the matched pairing. In other words, if you have 1 GB of total memory, having 2 x 512 MB sticks is very slightly better than having a single 1 GB stick and an empty slot. But having 1.5 GB (not matched) is substantially better than having 1 GB total, paired or not.
Hope this helps...

  • Can I install one 8 GB ram in a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011).

Can I install one 8 GB ram in a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Early 2011).  The other slot is not working, I have only one slot that works. It is stated in this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270#link1 , that the maximum memory is 8 GB where every slot slot has 4 Gb.  Is there any problem if i install only one 8 Gb ram in the working slot ?

You should be able to do that.
    Maximum Memory
16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    Memory Slots
    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Understand that there is no guarantee it will work, but based on the above it should work for you.

That is not how it works...
Macs can be very Fussy about RAM...
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...

Get as much RAM as your Mac can take. You will need it.

  • Memory install problems with my iMac. Can someone help me?

I read several post before leave it my question here—like having similar RAM memory problems—but looks like nobody has the right answer. This is my dilemma.
I have an iMac/Intel Core 2 Duo/2.8 GHz/RAM 2 GB/800 MHz,(Anodized Aluminum) 1st Generation - Summer 2007 Family, and has many others here I bought an extra 2GB module in hope to boost the memory from 2GB to 3GB (the new 2GB memory module and the old 1GB).
I did the installation, making sure they fully seat into their sockets, turn on the computer, checking if the computer recognize the new memory module... and everything went right until I started working with the computer.
The first indication of a problem happen 15 min. after I installed the memory. The computer crash and I follow the normal procedures to restart the Mac. No problems for about one hour.
The second time the computer crash I was working an InDesign file, I did turn off and on the computer but this time it didn't work. There was no beep or other sound, nothing was shown on the screen. I took the new memory module out and replace it for the old 1GB.
Now is working just fine. Is this an Apple scam to make us buy expensive Apple memory modules? The module in question, the one that I bought brand new from memory.com for just $26—instead of the outrageous price of $100 from Apple Store—in as follow:
    2GB DDR2-800 non ECC SO-DIM
This is the recommended module for iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 24-inch at memory.com
    http://www.memory.com/net/System.aspx?model=37204
I wondering if my problem could be the use of two different configurations (2GB+1GB modules) or is just a "conspiracy theory" that Apple want to make us buy expensive RAM memory.
If I bought a "wrong module", why the computer recognize the upgrade and I was able to work, at least for 2 hrs?

    sergei63,
It seems you did not purchase the correct memory! The memory for mid 2007 iMac (first generation Aluminum machines) is:
    667 MHz, PC2-5300, DDR2 compliant (also referred to as DDR2 667)
Look in your owners manual and you will find this information. As you are finding out your machine will not run if it has incorrect memory in it.
My suggestion is return the RAM you received and purchase the specification listed above.

    Roger

  • If I buy an ipad 2 with more memory, can i transfer everything from my old ipad to the new one

If I purchase an ipad 2  with more memory, can I transfer all the contents of the old ipad to the new one?

You can backup your current iPad, and then restore the new iPad from that backup (a list of what is included in a backup is in this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079 - it excludes music, videos, synced photos). As the backup doesn't contain the actual apps, just their settings and content, for the restore to work completely you'll need all the relevant apps in your computer's iTunes library - otherwise the restore won't be able to install the apps and therefore their content (if you don't have the apps on your computer then you can re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519)
Restoring onto a different device won't restore passwords so you'll need to enter your router and email passwords and any passwords stored on websites.

  • How much memory can I install in my mac book pro?

Mac book pro 2.4 GHz late 2011 i7....How much memory can I install? Currently have 4Gb but want to run Win 7 on VMware and want to make sure my user has enough

The position of Apple is that the Late 2011 can take 8 GB, however, OWC, http://www.macsales.com and Crucial, http://www.crucial.com both guarantee their 16 GB ram packages to work.  Both are sellers of high quality ram that is guaranteed to work in Macs.

  • Is it possible to install a 8 GB of RAM memory to a late 2008 aluminium macbook?

Is it possible to install a 8 GB of RAM memory to a late 2008 aluminium macbook?

Apple's stated maximum is not always the maximum the hardware will support. If the 4GB modules were too expensive when this MacBook was manufactured, then there would be no point in offering 8GB as an option.
I'm sure there are other explanations also, but all that really matters is that the maximum amount of memory your machine can handle is 8GB.

  • I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

I have a Mac OSX Version 10.5.8 When I put in my disc to upgrade to snow leopard version 10.6.3 it tells me I need atleast 1gb of ram memory to download. what can I do

Your iMac can take a total of 2 GBs of RAM Max.
    Maximum Memory
    2.0 GB
    Memory Slots
    2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM
You will be able to install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and it will run, but you may not be happy with the performance overall.
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and later OS X versions use more and more CPU, GPU and RAM resources.
OS X 10.6, by itself, will use between 2-4 GBs of RAM to run quickly, smoothly and efficiently.
Start running additonal applications and your iMac is going to struggle.
Just fair warning if you notice that your iMac is running slower after installing OS X 10.6.
    Good Luck!

I have an iMac 5,1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I'd like to Lion, in order to use iCloud, but the specs indicate I don't have enough memory. How much memory can I add? And will this upgrade allow me to install Lion?

I believe your model iMac can address 3 GB RAM; the minimum for Lion is 2 GB - however, that is an absolute minimum for very light use. You would be much happier with a minimum of 4 GB.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-2-duo-2.16-20-inch-sp ecs.html
(You can install 4 GB, but it will only be able to address about 3.1 - 3.2 GB)

  • Can I upgrade the ram memory of my Macbook air from 4gb to 8gb?

Anybody knows if I can upgrade the ram memory of a Macbook Air from 4gb to 8gb?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The memory in the MacBook Air is soldered onto the logic board, so you can't upgrade RAM after buying your computer. It's important to buy your MacBook Air with the amount of memory you will use because you won't be able to install more RAM

  • IPod touch 4 gives message "Cannot Download" "there is not enough available storage to download...You can manage your storage in settings." when trying to update or install one but not all apps. I have more storage than the app takes. Can u help?

iPod touch 4 gives message "Cannot Download" "there is not enough available storage to download...You can manage your storage in settings." when trying to update or install one of the apps, but not other apps.  I have more space available than needed for the app.  What do I need to do to fix this problem?  Do I need to completely reset this device as new and, if so, how should I do that?

You need to delete some item (apps, music, photos etc) from the iPod,.However, sometime files get corrupt. To determine that connect the iPod to your computer and click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. How much storage is used by the "other" category. If over 1 1/2 GB that indicates corrupted files.
To get the "other" down to normal value you need to restore your iPod usually restoring from backup works but sometimes restoring to factory settings.new iPod is required./

I am trying to reinstall Dreamweaver CS3 from the CD after having computer issues.  Now getting error "You can only install one Adobe product at a time.  Please complete the other installation before attempting to install ......."  There is no other Adobe product installing.  I have used the Adobe Cleaner Tool many times and uninstalled other Adobe Products but neither has worked.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled this CD version of Dreamweaver several times when changing computers and after having computer issues. A google search of the problem suggested it may be an error related to the number of times I can reinstall this product due to licensing issues.  Please help.

A google search of the problem suggested it may be an error related to the number of times I can reinstall this product due to licensing issues.
Absolutely not. You are misinterpreting things. The activation check never happens when just running the installer, only much later. It means what it says - there is another "install" pending/ active on your system, meaning somewhere there is an (invisible) process still blocking things. Either way, since you haven't provided any real technical info, we can't advise specifically. if you are on Windows, you may want to check your task manager and terminate any setup.exe and msiexec.exe processes plus potentially may need to manually fix/ delete some registry keys. For anything beyond that you will have to be much more specific.

How do I uninstall Adobe Bridge CC on one computer so that it can be installed on a new computer?

You can install CC on two computers and use them both (even different OS if needed)
You can also sign out with your Adobe Creative Cloud application on one computer and log in on another computer, the max of active systems is 2 but it should be possible to have them on multiple systems with signing in and out.
