Installing onto the D: drive on a PC

I have just downloaded Photoshop and Bridge onto a PC and they have automatically been installed onto the C: drive and I want to put them on the D: drive - is there a way of doing this?

JDSamJones you can customize the installation location under the Preferences within the Creative Cloud application. Please be aware that there will still be shared components installed on the drive containing your OS.

I have low space on my boot drive so i'm attempting to install adobe cc premiere onto my 2tb storage drive. however whenever i attempt the install it wants to install onto the c:// drive. where i have no space. We can't know. You have not provided any proper system information. Based on your limited information and your use of "storage drive" terminology I would assume that this is a non-permanent, removable drive and those can't be used for software installs. Not only does Adobe not allow it, but this is a fundamental thing in Windows. If that's the case, then you're out of luck. Otherwise there could simply be issues with the drives configuration like a specific RAID/ SATA driver being required or all sorts of permissions issues....

I have been saving all my music on an external drive which is now corrupted. How do I get the material from my iPod onto the hard drive of my computer instead?

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

My user folder has disappeared from my hard drive though if I do a find for it it says it is still there. Anyone know how to restore it. I can drag a duplicate from the find window onto the hard drive but don't want two copies with one hidden.

If you did then update to iTunes 11.2.1.

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer.

System Builder - just be sure to get 64-bit version, no one needs or wants 32-bit today, and only comes with one, while retail ships with both 32/64-bit media.
you can't install it and activate on different hardware later is all, and by then for what you saved, so what, Windows 8 or SP2 will be out.
A few people had trouble with Windows 7 SP1 for some reason and not sure exactly why, changes to the boot loader on the DVD I presume.

Make a new folder and put them in that different folder. Then the names can be the same as others already on your drive.

My new HD with a cloned system and apps won't boot the G5 when installed. The clone drive is being journal formatted via usb with OS9 checked in disk utility. First time around, I didn't check OS9, and the G5 didn't boot from the clone drive. Advice?

My system is a G5 PPC with 2x 2Gig 64bit processors (dual core). 6 gig of ram on board, running OSX 10.4.11. I recently discovered the main drive was actually a laptop drive someone had stuffed in there! (The machine was given to me - yes, really). So I bought a nice new WD Caviar Black 500Gig HD. Hooked it up via usb adapter (G5 won't see it internally). Disk Utility saw it, formatted it with Journal option selected, but not OS9 install.
After that, I cloned the data on the slow laptop drive complete with all the applications onto the Caviar HD.Sure enough, the G5 can see the Caviar HD with everything on it.
However, when putting the Caviar HD in where the laptop drive once was, the G5 would not see the disk at all.
So now, I'm reformatting the drive again but this time with OS9 checkbox ticked in Disk Utility. After this, I will install it into the machine alongside the offensively sluggish laptop drive, and as long as the G5 sees the Caviar HD internally, I will clone from there, rather than via USB hookup.
I hope this way the system will speed up! There's no way the machine is running as it can do with a pokey little laptop drive in it spinning at 5k surely!
I am assuming the Tiger 10.4.11 is genuine (I think it is - the X symbol is present on the folder), but I don't have the original disk...
Any suggestions? Has anyone had this experience?

Hi BDAqua... downstairs away from unit at the moment. It's a Western Digital Caviar Black 500Gig, twin processors, SATA3 / 6, 64Meg cache on-board... nice. Very quite with minimal vibration (slight).
However as I'm here I can announce I've solved the problem! The G5 had an original Seagate Barracuda HDD on board as a slave drive. I backed up the dat off that onto the Caviar Black via USB adapter. Then Disk Utility wiped the Barracuda safely.
Then, I installed SuperDuper! to clone the data from the sluggish laptop master drive onto the Barracuda; I also told SuperDuper! to boot the G5 from the newly image Barracuda.
After it had done the job I switched off the machine (it may well have rebooted - I was downstairs watching England fail at Eurovision Song Contest), took out the laptop drive and started up the G5.
Mercifully, it rebooted fine! All details and programs are intact and functioning right down to my screensaver.
I can report that the machine is noticably (considerably in the case of Logic8 and JamPack) faster and swifter at sourcing data.
Everything is backed up and I now have a speedier G5! Hurrah!!
I now have a spare 80Gig drive to hand in a caddy (originally a spare backup) that was made about the same time as the G5. It's my guess that it would fit the G5 internally and probably be seen ok by the system.
It's worth a try. The Caviar Black will have to go into a caddy and become my backup disk. It has a clone of the OS and all apps, so if something goes badly wrong, I'm safe.
Just a thought: The more advanced Leopard and Snow Leopard OS may struggle in G5's because the OS itself may require faster HDD's that cannot go into the G5 normally? I see many reports of Snow Leopard running like a bag of bones in people's G5's. Perhaps it's something to do with data retrieval speeds?
I'm sticking with Tiger!

If I want to install Lions on a 2nd hard drive in my MacPro Desktop, will it allow me to do so if I have Leopard installed on the boot drive?

I have a blank 2nd hard drive that I am going to install in my MacPro desktop. The boot drive already contains the Leopard operating system. I want to install Lions on the blank hard drive. Will setup in Lions when it comes out, allow me to install Lions onto the 2nd hard drive since it should detect that I have a valid Apple operating system on the boot drive?

You can first install Snow Leopard then re-download Lion. Or you saved the original installer application then created a bootable Lion installer on a USB flash drive or DVD. Or you buy Apple's $69.00 USB flash installer.

Installing Win 7 on Boot Camp won't install to the hard drive

Hey, I'm installing Windows 7 64-BIT onto my Mac,
Steps I've taken, logged onto an administrator account, ran boot camp assistant, selected Hard Drive 2 (1TB, practically empty it is not my Mac OSX Boot Drive), selected "create second partition for windows", gave it 131GB clicked partition, I saw the BOOTCAMP hard drive show up on my desktop now.
I inserted the Win764BIT dvd I made, BootCamp prompted for it, I clicked OK...
It restarts, windows 7 setup loads, I get to the point where I selected the Boot Camp hard drive, and click Format, it finishes, I click Next, and it says:
Windows is unable to install to the selected location: error 0x80300024, the partition I am installing to is: Disk 1: Partition 3 (although there is, Disk 0, and 2 other unknown partitions of 128MB for Disk 0, and then Disk 1 Partition 3, and 2 other unknown partitions of 128MB for Disk 1.
EDIT: I did rename the ISO file I downloaded from: "7100.0.090421-1700x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_endvd.iso" to "win764.iso".
Can anyone help me with this?

There should be a selection screen, and try #2. I think that is called EFI Boot. I can't, because of EFI32 1.1, and 64-bit Windows and Apple are looking for UEFI 2.x / EFI64.
I had Windows Vista, and installed Windows 7 to another hard drive partition with the DVD written to disk (8GB) on another partition. Install off hard drive was fast, and never even boot from DVD.

Downloading a file from SAP (tcode FDTA) onto the disk drive of the server

We are using the transaction FDTA to download a file to the server. This server is the same one on which the SAP system is hosted the download we have to specify the destination path as
server1\folder1\filename.txt.
The file is downloaded successfully every time.But we need to know which userID was used by SAP to download the file. For this we have switched on the Windows feature of Auditing. This gives us the username which has created the file on the drive.
Here it gets complicated, as each time we see a different username. Sometimes it is the user using which we logged on to the windows OS (terminal server from where we fire the sap logon pad) and other times it shows the user as sidadm.
We need to know how this file transfer process takes place or if there is someway we can ensure that only one userID is always associated with the file download.

Thank you Markus and BAIGSA. But the user that i see associated with the file (we get this information via Windows auditing) is the user which is used to login to the terminal server.
Now to explain in detail we first login to the terminal server with domain user ID (userA for e.g.). From there we are able to access the SAP R/3 as well as the OS of the SAP systems. So after I login to this terminal server I open the SAP logon pad and logon to the SAP system from where I fire the tcode FDTA mentioned above.
It seems the user I used to logon to the terminal server (userA) is associated with the file (as seen in Windows auditing) and not the sidadm or the SAPserviceSID user.
Is this happening only because I am using a terminal server to hop onto the SAP system?

Boot Camp crashes after the windows software support download is finished and before the software is installed on the thumb drive

I have previously installed Boot Camp on this Computer (MBP mid 2012, 15" 2.6 GHZ). I recently replaced the hard drive and was reestablishing bootcamp again. While Boot Camp is writing to the USB thunb drive it crashes and rebootrs. The crash does not generate and message other than a note that there has been an error and the computer is restarting. I have tried several different thumb drives all with the same result. It makes me think that the new hard drive (a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 7200 rpm unit) does not work with Boot Camp. Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions?

I solved the problem myself. This might help others.
Recap:
The Windows XP Pro CD was always ejected by Boot Camp and it wouldn't mount at all when inserted in the CD slot. The CD was however readable on a Windows Machine.
It was not easy to detect but the Windows CD was physically deformed. It wasn't flat. It was a little convex (the outer edge was higher than its center). My iMac wasn't able to read it at all but a PC was able until I decided to test it with a full install on the PC. About half way during the installation, it stopped and an error message was displayed by Windows Setup "Disc Read Error - Disc might be damaged".
I ejected the CD and discovered the deformation. So I carefully placed the outer edge of the CD over a ring and put some weight on its center to try to undo the deformation. I've waited 2 days then retested the CD and it worked at the first attempt. My iMac was happy and so was I. I made a security copy of the CD while it's still readable in case I have to re-install later.
I find Microsoft cheap of putting their Installation CD in a paper sleeve. If the CD have been stored in a CD case this would not have happened.
End of the story.

Adobe Acrobat XI won't install on the specified drive

I have Creative Cloud settings set to install all application on drive D: because C: drive is low on space. I have Muse and Photoshop already installed on drive D: but when I try to install Acorbat XI it tries to install it on C: and i get an "insufficient disk space" error.
Why do all the other application install on D: as specified in the settings, but Acrobat keeps trying to install on C:?
How can i fix this?

Urshah it is likely that Acrobat is not recognizing the custom install location due to the utilization of different installation technology than the majority of Adobe Creative software titles included in a Creative Cloud Membership.
I would recommend uninstalling Acrobat utilizing the process listed in Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
You can then download a copy of Acrobat 11 Professional from Download Acrobat products | Standard, Pro | XI, X. You can select a custom install location and install Acrobat in trial mode. Once installed please choose the option to License this Software and enter the Adobe ID tied to your membership. You can find additional details at Convert Creative Suite 6 applications to Creative Cloud membership.
