Installing Oracle 10 G on Mac IBook G4
Hello,
I am trying to set up Oracle on my Mac and am having some problems. I have the course materials and am eager to begin studying.
My problem is that I am a novice and am having trouble using terminal/Darwin to install, create the enviroment, and run Oracle on my Mac. I have 22 gigs available of disk space and 1.5 gb of ram.
I have virtual pc installed and was able to successful set up oracle 10 g express edition on it, but due to restrictions of ram usage in virtual pc, it processed to slowly to be time productive.
I have located the Mac download, but can't get it set up and running.
Here's the link:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/macsoft.html
Any advice offered will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and ideas.

Problems Installing Oracle Companion CD on Mac OS 10.4
I have already installed Oracle 10.1.0 on my Macintosh G4 running OS 10.4. It is up and running.
I have downloaded the Oracle Companion CD and I am trying to install it on my Mac but I am having
problems. I am trying to install it as oracle. I am unable to successfully execute the 'runInstaller'
command. A part of the error message goes as follows:
kCGErrorRangeCheck : Window Server communications from outside of session allowed for root and
console user only
Can't connect to window server - not enough permissions.
:0.0
:0.0
Unable to start an interactive install session because of the following error:Can't connect to window server
- not enough permissions.
I have tried the following:
DISPLAY=:0.0; export DISPLAY
xhost +
I tried the xclock command and it displayed the clock. So what gives?
Thanks for your help and suggestions. This was the installation guide that I was following:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B13958_01/toc.htm
However, I have been able to resolve my problem by ssh as root and
then 'su oracle'.
The installation has been completed. Thanks. -
Installing oracle 10.1 on mac osx 10.4 instructions?
I did not see an install guide in the 10.1 docs for installing oracle on a mac and I could not find instructions on the web. Has anyone done this install before? normally in a unix environment you have to create an oracle user, etc... and set kernel parameters.
The only version of Oracle ever certified by Apple was 10.1.0.3 and then only against Panther 10.3.6 which likely you can not get.
If you are not happy then send a letter to Apple. Oracle bent over backward multiple times trying to get Apple to handle its operating system release nonsense so as to support an enterprise database and Steve Jobs wasn't interested enough.
My team built numerous stand-alone and RAC clusters on OSX. But we won't touch it again unless, and until, Steve Jobs personally stands up and puts his reputation behind it. -

How to install oracle 10g in MAC OS X LION
Can some one help me in installing oracle 10g in my mac os xlion.. I also need to know where can i download ORACLE 10g for mac ??
Hi,
About installing Oracle 10g in OS X Lion, I think you may need to install in other platform such as LINUX. Because Oracle 10g R2 installer packages were removed from OTN site which it may end-of-support.

Any way to install Oracle server on Leopard (10.5.1, not server)
I'm just getting errors when I try to install, but I'm guessing it has to do with X-Code not being installed here yet. Have to get the Leopard disc from home later today and try again tomorrow.
Anyway, is this at all possible? Is there anything special I need to do? I followed this guide: http://www.nostalgix.org/blog/2005/05/install-oracle-10g-on-mac-os-x-104.html
In case it's not a problem with X-Code missing here's the output from the oraInstall2008-01-21_03-12-27PM.err file:

1 - VMWare fusion for mac - downloaded 30 day trial
2 - Followed the article below to install linux and oracle in a virtual machine
http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/smiley-11gr1-install.html
- Oracle Enterprise Linux 64 bit
- Oracle 11gR1 RDBMS
3 - Installed Oracle SQL developer for MAC OS X
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/index.html
I can now access the database using the oracle enterprise manager tool from safari and access the database via SQL developer on the mac.

The installation and configuration document must have skipped some chapters.
Where is the Oracle database Config Assistant? I use this on the PC at work. I have the folder orahome and there is no DBCA. The document just says to install the Mac os x server 10.2 (I am not using a server) and create the initial user as admin?
Could someone could tell me step by step what to do after the download?
Thanks to all. What is your OS version (10.3.9 or 10.2 )?

thanks in advanceOh,
I've just installed Oracle successfully.
My Linux is installed in VMware workstation, and there was not enough disk space to put the oracle installation files.
So I extracted all files to another computer in the network, and set a share folder with VMware.
Then I run oracle installation like this
#sh /mnt/hgfs/oracle/Disk1/runInstaller
And the error occured.
I just fixed it by extracted oracle installation files into a local folder.
/home/oracle/Disk1
And only Disk1 need to do this.
I still don't know why...... -
Good Day everyone
I just finished my developer course , and i need to install oracle in my macbook air .I have MAC OS X l0.5.8 , so could u plz do a favor and tell if i can install it or not, if i can't plz tell which version of mac i should have?
Thank UThere are currently no Oracle versions available that can be installed on a Mac OS. The last version that was available was 10.2.0.1 for OS X 10.5.4
I would suggest you install a Virtual Machine (using Virtualbox and Oracle Enterprise Linux - both of which a re available for free) and install 11gR2 in the VM. I documented this process on Win 7 Home machine - the process should be very similar for Mac OS - pl google for my blog

Hi Tommy,
Using install discs created for another computer is the problem. I suggest you get a stand alone install disc for Leopard and give that a try. I know it's a bummer since you have a perfectly good install disc but you can't take an install disc from a new computer and use it to update an older computer. As a matter of fact you would have problems using your install disc on the same type of computer if it didn't have the same build number. In the old days of Power Macs that wasn't an issue. You could take an install disc for one computer and update every Mac you owned. Sorry. -

i want to install oracle on mac os x lion
I don't believe Oracle makes a version for the Mac. Ask tech support at Oracle. Or you can try with other database applications for the Mac such as:
FileMaker Pro
Excel from Office 2011 for OS X
MySQL
These are three good ones. There is an Access-like database program as part of Libre Office that is compatible with OS X. There are many OS X compatible applications for accessing and using Oracle databases, but not creating them. -

Use google to find many blog posts such as this one - http://www.nfjsone.com/blog/rick__denatale/2011/07/installing_oracle_on_os_x_snow_leopard
One other option is to install Oracle on a VM - use VirtualBox (free download from https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) VM to create a VM where Oracle Linux (free download from https://edelivery.oracle.com/linux) can be installed - then install either 10gR2 or 11gR2 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/downloads/index.html) in the OEL VM
