Installing oracle 10g R2 on Red Hat AS4 update 6

Has anyone been able to get 10g R2 to install on Red Hat AS 4 u6?
I have had errors on both the 64 bit version and the 32 bit version.

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm
    glibc-headers-2.5-12.i386.rpm libgomp-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm

  • Uninstall oracle 10g from Linux Red hat

    is any body know the standard procedure to uninstall oracle 10g from linux red hat.

    The correct answer is "Undo the changes you made during the install"
    By this I mean:
    Stop all of the processes
    Delete the ORACLE_BASE directory (usually the one one level up from ORACLE_HOME)
    Delete the oraInventory directory if it isn't inside ORACLE_BASE
    Delete /etc/oratab, /etc/oraInst.loc
    Delete /user/local/bin/coraenv, /user/local/bin/oraenv, /user/local/bin/dbhome
    Undo any environment settings you may have modified (in .bash_profile and bashrc)
    That should be just about it. That's how I usually clean out my system between installs.

    HI,
    According to Oracle "Unix Installation/OS: RDBMS Technical Forum", it is not supported.
    I am pasting the final answer from one of the Oracle Analyst: (Hope it is OK)
    From: Oracle, Amit Podder 19-Aug-03 15:14
    Subject: Re : Does oracle support 9.2.0.2.0 on Redhat 7.X or 8.0
    Hi,
    AS of now Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2 is not certified on Red Hat 8.0.
    The information on future plans is not published so we are unable to convey any info on the same.

  • Installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2

    I got the following error when installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2:
    Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
    jre was not found in /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/../bin/i586/green_threads/jre
    Any ideas how to fix the problem?
    Thanks

    Try installing 9i on RH 7.1. I don't believe 9i runs under 7.2 due to library incompatibilities.

  • Oracle 10g Installation on Red Hat Linux

    Hi
    I am trying to install Oracle 10g (Downloaded from Oracle Site) in a Linux Installation. I have checked with the following command about the Linux Version
    # cat /etc/issue and the output is :
    Red Hat Linux Release 7.1 (Seawolf)
    Kernel 2.4.2-2 on an i686
    Then I am giving #uname -r and the output is
    2.4.2-2
    Now Oracle Installation Guide for 10g for Linux is saying that
    if the errata level is less than 25 on x86 system then install latest Kernel Updates.
    Please Let me know from where I can get the Latest Kernel Updates appropriately and what I need to do to put that patch into Linux so that I can smoothly install the Oracle 10g.
    Thanks and regards.
    Keshav Tripathy

    Jer is absolutely right.... just changing the values in oraparm.ini to reflect your kernel distribution will work for you.
    For example the file contains:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3
    now to add your linux into it just check your version by issuing the command #uname -r
    in my case the output was "2.4.20-8smp". I just appended redhat before this value and entered in the oraparm.ini file.
    The new ini file looks like:
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-2.1,UnitedLinux-1.0,redhat-3,redhat-2.4.20-8smp
    [Linux-redhat-2.4.20-8smp-optional]
    TEMP_SPACE=80
    SWAP_SPACE=150
    MIN_DISPLAY_COLORS=256
    Now you are all set to install. I assume that all other pre-requisites have been fulfilled.

  • Installing Oracle 9i database on Red Hat Linux

    I could successfully download the three disks required for installing Oracle 9i Database in .gz format. I used gunzip to extract those three files to .cpio format. How can I further extract the .cpio files? What should I do next?Please guide me.
    Warm Regards,
    Manash Pradhan

    You can unpack using cpio(1) i.e. 'cpio -idcmv < filename'
    When you finish unpacking, you will have three directories
    i.e. 'Disk1' 'Disk2' ...
    cd Disk1
    ./runInstaller

  • Installing Oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux

    Hi,
    I am new with Linux Os and have to install oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux Os for a customer. So before proceeding, I need some guidelines.
    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases?
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setup
    Regards
    Edited by: user640001 on Feb 25, 2011 5:44 AM

    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?Ordinarily, I'd recommend getting Oracle Linux (http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux) because the default install includes all the prerequisite RPM packages you will need. And failing that, also offers another RPM package "oracle-validated" which will cause the installation of the necessary prerequisites.
    But... you mentioned customer: if this is a revenue-producing situation and customer money is at stake, I strongly recommend they obtain commercial O/S support with either Oracle, Red Hat, or maybe SuSE/Novell. Compared to the cost of a downed business, an O/S support arrangement is cheap, cheap, cheap.
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?Sure. You can run Oracle VirtualBox on most Linux, Windows, or Solaris boxes. http://VirtualBox.org for info.
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases?No real differences in either environment.
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setupWhat, you didn't try http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux yet?

  • Installing Oracle Database 10g  on Linux Red Hat 5.1

    While inslalling Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86-64 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.1 (Tikanga) we've got an error
    Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, SuSE-9, redhat-4, UnitedLinux-1.0, asianux-1 or asianux-2
    Failed <<<<
    Could we install Oracle Database 10g on Linux Red Hat 5.1 or we need only Oracle Database 11g?

    Verify that the redhat-release RPM is installed on your Red Hat system:
    rpm -q redhat-release
    This RPM is important for RHEL since RHEL AS 4, RHEL AS 3, and RHEL AS 2.1 are Linux releases supported by Oracle. Without this RPM, Oracle 10g OUI won't be able to recognize it as a supported OS. However, the installer of 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release yet. This means that you will have to edit the /etc/redhat-release file. You also have to change /etc/redhat-release for unsupported releases like Fedora Core and RH9.
    I do not recommend to execute "runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs" since this will disable other checks you probably don't want to.
    On RHEL AS 4 (for 10g R1), RH9, and FC 1 you have to change the /etc/redhat-release file to make Oracle 10g believe it's running on a supported release.
    Regarding RHEL AS 4, the installer for 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release but 10g R2 OUI does.
    To change the /etc/redhat-release file, you can simply copy/paste the following commands:
    su - root
    cp /etc/redhat-release /etc/redhat-release.orig
    cat > /etc/redhat-release << EOF
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)
    EOF
    After you are done with the Oracle10g installation, undo the changes you made to /etc/redhat-release:
    su - root
    cp /etc/redhat-release.orig /etc/redhat-release
