  • Uninstall Oracle Culster (RAC) & Oracle Database with Raw File System (LVM)

    Hello,
I have configured "Oracle RAC" with "Database" on Hp Unix 11.23 Platform. The shared storage is based on "raw" file system, which has mounted through "SAN" Storage. We have used total 18 LV (logical volumes) for oracle & clusterware.
By mistaken, I have configured wrong "Public, Private IP Address & Virtual IP Addresses" during RAC installation, thus my oracle "crs" is not working perfectly. So, is it possible to modify the "public, private & Virtual" IP Addresses? If Yes, provide me the step by step modification link.
Moreover, I would like to know certain steps to uninstall entire "Oracle Clusterware & Database." Kindly do the needful the "uninstallation" steps & is it necessary to remove & recreate LVM partitions, on which "oracle crs & database" has installed?

How to cleanup / remove RAC installation (CRS,RDBMS,ASM)
is it necessary to remove & recreate LVM partitions, on which "oracle crs & database" has installed?I don't think so. If all steps on uninstalling procedure don't work, You'll can try "zero" the information on the raw device using dd.

  • Application and Oracle software in One file system.

    DB Version:11g

We have a relatively busy OLTP financial application installed on the same file system as oracle software (ORACLE_HOME). Is it a good idea to install applications on the same file system as ORACLE_HOME?This is a fairly common scenario. As long as
    - you have a decent system administratoir who knows how to monitor disk I/O and that monitoring does not show I/O contention
    - you have decent (tested) backups and a good database backup strategy
    - you are happy with performance
    - your compliance auditors are satisfied
then there should be no real issue.
Will Oracle recommend this?Oracle will probably not get involved other than to discuss High Availability scenarios and point you to things like the Maximum Availability Architecture white papers at http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/htdocs/maa.htm .
Now if you contracted their consulting/services group, they would likely do an evaluation of your specific needs and likely recommend separating things as a result of that evaluation.

  • Sol10 u8 installed on a ZFS Root File System have different swap needs?

Does Sol10 u8 installed on a ZFS Root File System have different swap needs/processes?
    Information:
I've installed Solaris 10 (10/09 s10s_u8wos_08a SPARC, Assembled 16 September 2009) on a half dozen servers and every one of them no longer mount swap at boot.
The install program commented out the old swap entry and created this one:
    # grep swap /etc/vfstab
    swap - /tmp tmpfs - yes -
Everything works like a champ. I didn't discover the issue until I tried to install some patches and the install failed. It didn't fail because of lack of swap - it refused to run because it found "No swap devices configured".
    Here are the symptoms:
    # swap -s
    total: 183216k bytes allocated + 23832k reserved = 207048k used, 13600032k available
    # swap -l
    No swap devices configured
    # mount | grep swap

    Hi Nitabills,
I assume that you create a zfs entry for swap with the commande zfs create -V $size
did you launch the command :
    swap -a /dev/zvol/dsdk/$ZPOOL/swap
Try this entry below in the vfstab :
    /dev/zvol/dsdk/$ZPOOL/swap - - swap - no -

  • Is it possible to rescue drive files and also format RAW file system into previous NTFS?

Do you have any suggestion for me to format RAW file system to NTFS and also rescue my remained drive files? These external hard drive files are made for the business presentation in the next Monday. I have prepared them for nearly a week.
But, this morning, the external hard drive that had held these files became RAW and needed to be formatted. I could not lose them and prepare another week to make these files again. There was no enough time. Please, give me some advice to get them back as
many as possible. Thank you in advance!

RAW file system error will not always indicate a failed or seriously damaged drive. So, do not give up rescuing your drive data easily. Just plunge this RAW drive to you computer again and run drive data recovery software to rescue your
original data back as much as possible before you format this drive from RAW to NTFS.
Just open your computer and search for a right data recovery tool to go on.
Get more data recovery clues here:

If you are still suspicious, just search and read more related threads/articles to k now more.

  • EXT3 to RAW file system

    hi all,
i have RHEL as 4 and i have 3 partitions on 200gb hard disk d01 d02 d03 with ext3 file system now i want to change the d01 ext3 file system to raw partition for implementing ASM can some one help me out that would be great help thanks very much in advance.

    1. make a backup of your database
    2. decide if you want to use ASMlib or raw devices
the following is the text in an article on installing oracle 10g (http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/chan-ubl-vmware.html#5)
A raw device mapping is required only if you are planning on creating ASM disks using standard Linux I/O. An alternative to creating ASM disks is to use the ASM library driver provided by Oracle. You will configure ASM disks using ASM library driver later.
Perform the following tasks to map the raw devices to the shared partitions created earlier. The raw devices have to bind with the block devices each time a cluster node boots.
Add the following lines in /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices.
    /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices
    /dev/raw/raw1 /dev/sdc1
    /dev/raw/raw2 /dev/sdd1
    /dev/raw/raw3 /dev/sde1
To make the mapping effective immediately, execute the following commands as the root user:
    # /sbin/service rawdevices restart
    Assigning devices:
    /dev/raw/raw1 --> /dev/sdc1
    /dev/raw/raw1: bound to major 8, minor 33
    /dev/raw/raw2 --> /dev/sdd1
    /dev/raw/raw2: bound to major 8, minor 49
    /dev/raw/raw3 --> /dev/sde1
    /dev/raw/raw3: bound to major 8, minor 65
    done
    # chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw[1-3]
    # chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw[1-3]
    # ls -lat /dev/raw/raw*
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 162, 3 Nov 4 07:04 /dev/raw/raw3
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 162, 2 Nov 4 07:04 /dev/raw/raw2
    crw-rw---- 1 oracle dba 162, 1 Nov 4 07:04 /dev/raw/raw1
    As the oracle user, execute
    rac1-> ln -sf /dev/raw/raw1 /u01/oradata/devdb/asmdisk1
    rac1-> ln -sf /dev/raw/raw2 /u01/oradata/devdb/asmdisk2
    rac1-> ln -sf /dev/raw/raw3 /u01/oradata/devdb/asmdisk3
Modify /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions. Raw devices are remapped on boot. The ownership of the raw devices will change to the root user by default upon boot. ASM will have problem accessing the shared partitions if the ownership is not the oracle user. Comment the original line, “raw/*:root:disk:0660” in /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions and add a new line, “raw/*:oracle:dba:0660.”
    /etc/udev/permissions.d/50-udev.permissions
    # raw devices
    ram*:root:disk:0660
    #raw/*:root:disk:0660
    raw/*:oracle:dba:0660

  • Force-installing Xsan 1.4.2 File System Update on Leopard

If you didn't read the README and upgraded to Leopard prior to installing the Xsan 1.4.2 update, you're in a pickle. Xsan prior to 1.4.2 won't work on Leopard, and once you've upgraded to Leopard, you can't install the 1.4.2 update. Catch-22. Fixable, though.
NOTE: This is a hack. It may seriously screw up your system. Worst case, though, you'll have to reinstall Tiger anyway, so what the hey.
First, update all the other Xsan servers & clients to 1.4.2 and restart everything. Follow the upgrade instructions at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305035
Now, on the Leopard-upgraded workstation(s) where Xsan no longer works, do the following:
    1. Download the Xsan 1.4.2 File System Update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/xsan142filesystemupdate.html
And, if you need the admin update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/xsan142adminupdate.html
    2. Mount the Xsan File System Update 1.4.2 disk image.
    3. Right-click the XsanFilesystemUpdate.mpkg file and choose "Show Package Contents"
    4. Browse to Contents:Installers, right-click the XsanFilesystem.pkg file, and choose "Show Package Contents"
    5. In Contents, drag the Archive.pax.gz file to your desktop.
    6. Open Terminal.app and type "sudo su -" at the prompt. Enter your password to authenticate the sudo session. You are now logged in as root, so don't do anything stupid, because you can completely hose your system. You have been warned.
    7. Type the following commands, exactly as written. Note the spaces etc. (copy the text into a monospace font if you're not sure):
    # cd /
    # mv /Users/<your username/Desktop/Archive.pax.gz .
    # gunzip Archive.pax.gz
    # pax -rp e -f Archive.pax
    # exit
    8. Reboot.
    9. Install the Xsan File System Update 1.4.2 from the disk image, as well as the admin update if you need it. Both should install successfully.
*What did you just do?* When you run the Xsan updater, it checks for various software versions, namely Mac OS X and Xsan. If it finds the wrong versions, it won't run the update. The above procedure "force-installs" the basic files from the 1.4.2 update--which are contained in the Archive.pax.gz archive--so that when you run the updater in Step 9, it finds an acceptable version of Xsan and proceeds with the installation.

Let me clarify the second line of the terminal commands in Step 7:
    mv /Users/(your username)/Desktop/Archive.pax.gz .
Replace (your username) with your account's short name; e.g. if your account is "bubba" then it would read:
    mv /Users/bubba/Desktop/Archive.pax.gz .
    Or, "mv(space)/Users/bubba/Desktop/Archive.pax.gz(space)."

  • Clonning from RAW file system to Coocked using RMAN ..Possible ?

One of our customer wants(For a project) to migrate their 9.2.0 database from one machine to another using a physical standby. Their current production machine uses RAW files for the Oracle datafiles. On the new machine (what will originally be the physical standby) they want to use filesystems (eg cooked files).
The process (very basically) will be :
    1. backup production
    2. restore production to new server
    3. establish physical standby
    4. switchover/failover to standby
    5. Former standby is now production
The question is, assuming that the backups are being taken with RMAN, is it possible to restore the datafiles to cooked filesystems (given the original backups were taken from raw)? Are there any additional steps or gotchas we have to watch out for when doing this? Do you have any documentation which details how to clone a database in this way?

  • Problem installing oracle in windows on a system with a share drive

I am attempting to install oracle on windows at work. I have access to a share drive that has an oracle inventory. I do not have permission to write here.
When I try to install oracle locally on my C: drive, by default the installation looks in the N: drive oracle inventory and since I do not have privileges to write there, it errors out.
how do i set it so that the installer creates an oracle/inventory locally on my C: drive?

On Windows registry key 'inst_loc' defines the Oracle inventory location, obviously a previous installation set this location to shared drive N: . Unfortunately it's NOT supported to change this , statement from Oracle:
Development have stated that manually changing the "inst_loc" string in the Windows registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle or HKLM\Software\Oracle) is officially unsupported.
You could create a 'clean' machine (remove completely all Oracle components including registry keys and start again with a fresh installation)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/deinstall.htm#i1008427
OR - maybe easier - ask your systemadminstrator to grant the necessary privilege.

  • Installing Oracle 10g XE cabinet file error

I'ven been trying to install XE (production-version) on my PC, after removing the beta version first. I receive the following message during installation:
ERROR 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Naturally I have tried downloading the whole file again, and rerunning the install program, but it comes up with the exact same message again. I don't think it very likely that a download will go wrong twice on independant occasions, so I assume something else is wrong. Can anyone help me?

i get the same error. i tried installing both the singlebyte/english version and the multibyte/unicode version. both give the same error. anyone? thanx.

  • Just installed LR5- not importing RAW files from a card

I just installed LR5 on a MAC.  I have pics to import from cards, one card loaded no problem, the next card brought up the images and when I go to import them I recieve a message saying "Some Import Operations Were not Performed."  giving me the following 2 errors (1) and (563)last night it was (1) and (504) and (505).  Seems like it is reading the images as it pulls them up, just not moving them.  I have reviewed everything from Permissions to loading the cards with no problem in LR4-  what can I try?

This could be a problem with the card reader, cable or the card itself. Can you try a different hardware connection and see if that works?
Of course, it could be other things as well.

  • 10G Database install on Linux 64bit File system Vs. Automatic Storage

    Hi,
I'm installing Oracle 10G on a Dell 2950 server with an Intel 64 bit processor. The operating system is Red Hat Linux 4. It has a hardware RAID.
I've downloaded the Install Guide but I have a question about installing.
I'm confused about the File system vs. Automatic Storage management option. I will be installing on the local system, I will not be using a NAS or SAN.
Under Database Storage Options, the guide says that "Oracle recommends that the file system you choose be separate from the file systems used by the operating system or the Oracle software.".
    1. Do I need to do that since I'm already using hardware RAID??
    2. Which way is recommended / what do most people do: File system or Automatic Storage managment??
    3. For Automatic Storage Management I read that I'd have to create an ASM Disk group that can consist of "a multiple disk device such as a RAID storage array or logical volume. However, in most cases disk groups consist of one or more individual physical disks". Do I need to reconfigure my partitions ??
I just need some input on what I should do since this is my first time installing Oracle on Linux.
    Thank you.

    Besides documentation there's a step-by-step guide :
