Installing Oracle in a OS cluster
Hi All,
I am installing Oracle software in a OS clustered environment (HP MC Service guard, Not RAC). Should I use the standard installation steps or is there anything that I have to take care of? Is there any document on the steps to install?
Thanks!
There is a bunch of docs from HP

How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster
Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
thanks ,,Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node. -
Dear all,
I want to install oracle on Linux OS cluster instaed of Oracle RAC. I need help on this i haven't configured cluster on linux and want to know setps i am using OEL 5.3. i am trying to install this on HP servers and HP Storage. i am using HP-ILO for fencing.
do i first configure Cluster and then install all binaries on node 1 and then db on Storage. what is your recommendation and process to perform this.
Thanks.well.....make your choices and do it.
there are several cluster solutions for linux. do you really want a forum to be the architect of your cluster? you have made decisions (o/s cluster instead of RAC) what are the reasons? -

Oracle RAC on solaris Cluster - advantages
Hi,
I wonder what are the advantages of installing Oracle Rac on solaris Cluster.
Oracle Rac is a cluster solution by itself and puting it to solaris Cluster will complicate a whole system a lot.
One advantage I know iis that solaris cluster will secure a voting disks but those could be also secure by using NFS.
Please give me your opinion if its worth in general to iinstall RAC 11g in solaris cluster 3.2.
How do you think, will Oracle extend the solaris cluster solution for databases in the future ?
Many thanks in advance.CRS is built to manage RAC. Using any other cluster software for RAC will complicate the solution without adding benefit.
But if you are building a cluster to run application servers etc, then it would be better to use a more flexible cluster solution. (e.g NOT crs) -
Hi all,
I am trying for RAC 10gR1 (10.1.0.2) using two machines with Windows 2000 Server. For this I need to install Oracle Cluster Ready Services Release 1 (10.1.0.2).
Machine details are as follows:-

What me do? Where take OSD? Where reason?Hi Satish,
You need to install "Oracle Data Provider for .NET" on the target machine, and it needs to be the same version as the one you used to build the assemblies.

Install Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 Server cluster (MSCS)
Hi all
How do I install Oracle 10g on Windows 2000 cluster (MSCS installed)?
I have a 2-nodes Microsoft windows 2003 server cluster and I want to install Oracle 10g,
Do I folloow this order:
1. Install the software on both without the database
2. Create the database from the first node
in this case, The second node can see the database as it is available?,
and what about the IP adresses?
If you can point me to some documentation, or help in any way, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for any help.Read here...

>>
Oracle Fail Safe comprises multiple components: Oracle Fail Safe Manager, Oracle Services for MSCS, and server components specific to Oracle Fail Safe.
>>
So I don't know how you can achieve this without Fail Safe.
There might be other link which I cannot find right now. -
Hi,
I need install ORACLE BAM in cluster. I need help or documentation.
Thanks,
MarcioBased on the 10g Features by Edition document
http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
it appears that FailSafe is included with your enterprise edition license. What I don't know, and what you'd probably need to discuss with your Oracle Sales rep, would be how licensing works in that environment. I don't know whether you would need to license all the CPUs in all the machines in the cluster or only on one node.

Is it possible to install oracle clusterware on top of rh cluster suite
Dear All,
We are planning to install oracle 10g / 11g RAC Clusterware on top of RH CLuster Suite in order to support the scalability on connecting servers. Is it possible to do the same. If it so either it is good approach or bad approach. I am in very need of your comments on the same the pros and cons on the above if the implementation is possible. kindly do the needful
thanks and regards
suresh kumar tThey're different kinds of clusters:
RH cluster is active-passive
RAC is active-active
So you can mix a RH cluster with services like webservers, other mysql databases, app servers, etc... and the Oracle RAC on the same machine, but I wouldn't make RHcluster control Oracle RAC services, cause they're different systems, with very different architecture.
What It's possible is to control RH cluster services through Oracle RAC clusterware, adding the RH cluster services as CRS services. You can do so with $ORA_CRS_HOME/bin/crs_register
Hope you find this information helpful.

Thank youI had this problem and resolved it by transporting the file to the installation server with the correct ftp datatype (binary).
On page 54 of the install guide (..Server\Oracle_Business_Intelligence\doc\doc\bi.1013\b31765.pdf) that comes with the installation files, there is an instruction to make sure that any ftp activity is done in binary.
This may not have occured with the license.xml file if you use a tool which offers the "feature" of automatic datatype recognition.
Hope this helps. -

As I can solve this problem, not to reinstall everything again
thanksNot sure if I understand your issue correctly. Your deployment failed during the installation and you have started the servers and trying to login?
When installing OIM in a clustered WLS domain, the docs specify various cluster configurations needed to be completed in the WLS Admin Console before running the OIM installer. These steps DO NOT include starting up of the first managed server. In fact, if you start up the managed server then you may very well run into deployment issues after the OIM application is built. Instead, when installing OIM, the installer detects that not all nodes are on-line and so will queue the deployment for later. Deployment then takes place in later steps when you are instructed to restart the app server and start managed nodes.
Thus was your managed server running when you were doing the installation? That has caused the issue. I would suggest to dump this domain (save the .xldatabasekey) if you don't wanna to dump the database part and start the installation again BUT don't start the managed server while doing the installation.

How to install Oracle 10g with its grid functionality on Linux?
Well, I thought changing the subject line might help to convey the meaning of what I want better. Here's my earlier post from a few hours earlier.
Hi,
I need carry out TPC-C benchmarking test for Oracle 10g (using one, two and four servers; basically using the grid in case of multiple servers). I have installed oracle 10g (with default options) on all the four servers, but beyond that I have no idea as to how can I invoke the grid option in order to carry out the tests-by my statement, I mean do I need to choose grid option while installing Oracle or is it the case that I specify the grid option in the code that I write for carrying out the tests. The OS is LInux (Scientific Linux).
An unrelated problem-one of the servers is 64 bit while others are 32 bit, and proper versions of oracle have been installed. Neglecting the obvious fact that this will make comparisons difficult does anyone anticipate any other problem?
Many Thanks!
Steve
*******************************************************************************************************Do you think that the installation of RAC can be done
in a week? yes, as long as you know what you are doing and can catch the concept quickly and good at following instructions.
Moreover, we do not have a cluster-all we
have are four servers that are separate. Do you know
if the name Real Application Clusters implies that
the servers have to be in a cluster?
The basic idea of RAC is all these hosts need to share same set of storage. The most popular such storage are SAN and NAS.

Hi all.
This is the scenario:
I have a 2 node cluster Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 x86_64, the nodes are part of domain.
Installed Oracle 12cR1 (12.1.0.2.0) as follows:
Installation done using domain administrator named "installoracle" that has been EXPLICIT promoted to local administrator in both nodes.
One domain user named "oracle12c" with no administrator privileges neither in the domain or nodes.
Installation, after a lot of customization in the OS of the nodes, has gone ok, perfect indeed, not even a warning during runinstaller execution.
All services and resources are up & running, I have rebooted nodes and all comes back ok in place. In windows services I can see some services started with "oracle12c" user, and all windows groups: DBA, SYSKM, etc, has been created.
Now I have to install Oracle RAC database in 11gR2 version (11.2.0.4.0) to accomplish with application requirements.
So, I execute runInstaller (setup.exe) logged as administrator via domain administrator "installoracle" (the one that was able to do the smooth 12c GI installation) and the gui comes with out problems, but at 4th screen the one in which you have to choose what kind of installation you want to do (Single, RAC or RoN) I select RAC option, the gui returns error: crs is not running in the local node...
Finally, in order to deliver some database 11.2.0.4.0 for my customer, I try to do installation of SW for Single Node, I did using "installoracle". The sw has been installed in one of the nodes. Then I have created a database and I have stored datafiles in ASM (this ASM is part of 12c clusterware) and also register the 11gR2 single instance database in the Grid Infrastructure listener
So, whats next??? Why is this behavior??? I did similar installations in Linux/Solaris with no issue (well as everyone can imagine, always there are some issues, but when solved you got GI in 12c and databases in the release that you want 12c, 11g, 10g...)
Any clue?
Thanks in advance!!
Best Regards!!To go back to old version (without changing compatible parameter), you can perform downgrade.
Instructions are available at
How to Downgrade from Database 11.2 to Previous Release (Includes 11.2.0.4 - 11.2.0.1) (Doc ID 883335.1)
In this case you will having all the data file including the new one.
But remember database may not be in the same status as before (Before upgrade). it may have invalid objects of higher version after downgrade.
Downgrade is applicable only to successfully upgraded databases. In case upgrade faced some issue, do not try downgrade there.
Your second approach it not correct. Note that each datafile header will have db version. We can not open database in normal mode when header version and binary versions are different. -
Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC
Hi All
Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.
ThanksI am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/rac.101/b10765/adddel.htm
then I ran
./addNode.sh -silent CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={hint-8} CLUSTER_NEW_PRIVATE_NODE_NAMES={hint8-priv1} CLUSTER_NEW_VIRTUAL_HOSTNAMES={hint8-vip}
I am getting this when use command line:
Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
SEVERE:Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
also run addNode.sh via GUI, the new node name still listed and can't continue.
BTW, adding new node should support online, shutdown is not required
