Hello
When i install oracle 10gR2 in windows xp or linux i don't have any problem
but now i want install oracle 10gR2 in windows server2003 for test ( i don't have
network, consequently i havn't tuned anything for network in OS)
it fail in "Oracle Net Services Configuration"
in "product-Specific Prerequisite checks" stage i receive this warning
(but i always recieve it in windows xp and i ignore it but no problem occur)
Checking Network Configuration requirements ...
Actual Result: Unknown Host Exception has Occurred :server1: server1.
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this,
you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system.
See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
and in installation log i see this note

  • Problem installing oracle in windows on a system with a share drive

I am attempting to install oracle on windows at work. I have access to a share drive that has an oracle inventory. I do not have permission to write here.
When I try to install oracle locally on my C: drive, by default the installation looks in the N: drive oracle inventory and since I do not have privileges to write there, it errors out.
how do i set it so that the installer creates an oracle/inventory locally on my C: drive?

On Windows registry key 'inst_loc' defines the Oracle inventory location, obviously a previous installation set this location to shared drive N: . Unfortunately it's NOT supported to change this , statement from Oracle:
Development have stated that manually changing the "inst_loc" string in the Windows registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Oracle or HKLM\Software\Oracle) is officially unsupported.
You could create a 'clean' machine (remove completely all Oracle components including registry keys and start again with a fresh installation)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/deinstall.htm#i1008427
OR - maybe easier - ask your systemadminstrator to grant the necessary privilege.

I had the same question and this is what I found on the next page(s):
You have to install Personal 8i for Windows 98.
However, do the following before you begin to install: modify your WIN.INI file, in section [Compatibility95], adding Jew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and install.
I found this out, so I have not tried it myself.
Please confirm if it works. I will do too.

  • Install oracle 8.1.7 problems

I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7 downloaded from the OTN, i am unable.
I have windows 2000 advance server as OS and my machine has a p4 processor.
But I am able to load oracle 8.1.5 after loading 815, i tried to install Oracle designer 6i and again i am having problems.

I had problems installing 8.1.6 initially, but got it to work. I had to download the latest JRE from sun.com for Pentium 4, which is 1.3.1. Then I had to copy the contents of Oracle 8.1.6 onto my hard drive, search and rename the symcjit.dll that is within the Oracle 8.1.6 directory. Then I clicked on setup and the installation will go out to the JRE1.3.1 directory in order to find the symcjit.dll that it needs. That was the only way that I was able to install Oracle on a P4 box. That worked great.
Then I tried to upgrade to 8.1.7 and though the database seems to work fine, it does show the following error when I log into SQL*:
ORA-06553: PLS-707: unsupported construct or internal error[2603]. Anyone seen this error before?

You want to install AD on an Internet Server?
According to your description your server has one public IP-address and
no internal IP-address and you want to install AD on this Internet
    server?? Is that correct??
Can you tell us the intended use of this server. Do you want to host
services on this server, which need AD authentication?
If you have a second NIC and your DC is on another local machine I
would not expose your local AD on an public accessible server. If this
server shall become a DC it should not have more than one IP-address.
If you want to access data on this server via Internet securely I would
recommend a VPN solution - preferably not running on the server itself
but on a separate firewall between the server and the internet. In this
case I would have no see a big security problem running AD on this
    server.

    Hi,

    Thanks,

    Hi
This is hard to describe on the forum. I hope you are doing it for some fun so it is better to start from standalone version before progressing to clusters.... Don't take an offence but clustering and beginners are like throwing out the baby into the water in the middle of the ocean.... Not really adviseable...

  • Installing Oracle on windows XP

    hi frens
I have just installed the trial version of oracle 10g in my machine with OS windows XP.
I have finished installing however I cannot access the database.
During installation, I just put the password (in the Universal installlation wizard), tending to use the username as sys.
On the browser window that follows after the installation (http//hostname:port/em) I have put the user name and Password (the windows one) and then the user name (sys) and the password ( the one I set in the universal installation wizard).
Then It shows the error " The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"
can anybody tell me how can I access the database?
The interesting thing is that, I had put 4 digits password for both the OS and the Oracle but after the execution, it comes up with 10 digits password. I am bit surprised if there is obligation regarding the length of password.
    Many thanks

  • Installing Oracle EBS 11i installation problem

    Dear All,
I have a problem regarding the installation of Oracle EBS 11i of which I can't figure out a solution.
After unzipping all the 108 files during the rapidwiz installation the installer seems to halt (in step 1, 100% of file extraction). It involves instconf.drv but it doesn't show me an error in the installation logs. The line that appears is the following:
    instantiatefile -d instconf.drv
I tried to change my Linux distribution from SLES10 to Ubuntu but that doesn't work either.
Could you please help me out with this.
    Kind regards,
    Charif Ennaciri

  • ORA-12154 while installing Oracle 10g on windows 7

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g express edition on my machine (core 2 duo 2.93) running on Windows 7.
The installation moves on perfectly for the 1st step and while running the 2nd step (Net configuration Assistant), it gives the ORA-12154 error.
The contents of my configuration files at this point are as follows:
    Listener.ora
    =============
    SID_LIST_ORCL =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = F:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    =============
    And that of tnsnames.ora is:
    =============
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
    =============
After some googling around, I have found and installed the Microsoft Loopback adapter too (since my LAN is DHCP enabled) and also tried to turn on the firewall on my machine to check if it is not a problem with the port 1521 being blocked by the firewall.
However, even after all that I still get the error "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified." while running the Net configuration Assistant and/or running SQL Plus to connect to the SID - ORCL.
I can only see one service running in my services by the name : OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerORCL
Any suggestions or advice on the error would be much welcome.
Is it anything related to Windows 7 ? Because I have managed to install using the same installer on another machine which runs Windows XP and everything seems fine there.
    Thanking you all in anticipation.

Hmmm.. but then I'd have expected some installation error. I have read around that people have managed to install oracle on windows 7.
The error displayed seems to be indicating that there is some configuration or permissions issue.Check that the user has permission to write in the ORACLE_HOME\network\admin - UAC might be blocking that.
Install with software only, and run netca & dbca separately to create the database after the s/w install. (That's the way it is done in production anyway, so get used to it.)
But yes - you still may have problems. Those who did fake it out on Windows 7 usually understand what to do. If you are smart enough to actually do it, my hat is off to you.
