Installing Oracle JRE

Currently I'm using this package from the AUR.  I'm trying to install it with:
$ makepkg -s
# pacman -U jre-7.9-1-x86_64.pkg.tar
However, this is returned:
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: jre and jre7-openjdk are in conflict (java-runtime). Remove jre7-openjdk? [y/N] y
:: jre and jre7-openjdk-headless are in conflict (java-runtime-headless). Remove jre7-openjdk-headless? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: jdk7-openjdk: requires jre7-openjdk
Why does it complain about openjdk if I'm trying to install oracle jre?  Thanks for any help!

Had some mess too when I switched from jre7-openjdk and jdk7-openjdk to Oracles jre/jdk a couple of months ago.
Not sure if the jdk7-openjdk will work with Oracles jre and it's PKGBUILD points out jre-openjdk as a dependency.
I would suggest that you install Oracles jdk instead, it provides both jre/jdk and you'll be replacing both openjdk packages
and that should solve the dependency problem for you (between the jdk and jre at least).
When I switched I first removed both jdk7-openjdk and jre7-openjdk, and you are probably in the same spot as I was
then (sitting with a bunch of installed apps that depends on java).
So I used
pacman -Rdd jre7-openjdk
pacman -Rdd jdk7-openjdk
to remove them.
By doing that I "broke" all installed packages that depends on java but since I was going to install the new jre/jdk directly
after that it wouldn't matter anyway (installing the new jre/jdk fixes it again).
Not sure if it's the best way to do it but the idea of first removing all packages that have
a dependency to either the jre or the jdk package and then re-install them again (after installing the new jre/jdk)
didn't sound appealing to me... guess I'm just lazy

  • JRE not found, while installing Oracle 9i on Fedora Core 5

I am installing Oracle 9i on Fedora Core 5 from the following site.
    http://ivan.kartik.sk/oracle/install_ora9_fedora.html
The site asks me to Download the Java Runtime Enviroment (j2re-1_3_1_15-linux-i586.bin) from the Sun website.
extract the file and put it in /opt directory. And edit Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini and modify JRE_LOCATION variable to /opt/jre1.3.xx
I have downloaded JRE version jre1.3.1_19 as this is the version available from the sun site, and put it in the /opt directory.

  • Error in Installing Oracle 9i on redhat 7.2 -- jre was not found again!

I'm installing Oracle 9i on redhat 7.2. The machine I'm installing it on is an AMD k-6 500 mhz pc. While attempting to install Oracle 9i
I think I'm successful (well, maybe not) except for the fact that the oui reports the following error:
"configuration tool oracle net configuration assistant failed. jre was not found
    in /home/ora1/jre/1.1.8/bin/../bin/i586/green_threads/jre"
Now, I know about the i686/i586 scenario, and I have a 586 pc. I got the more common error message:
"jre was not found in /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/i586/green_threads" (also for ../lib/..)
and I set up symbolic links for that and re-ran the runInstaller. Everything I've tried so far has been unsuccessfull.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.
BTW: What does it mean when the path has double dots (i.e. bin/../bin) in it?. That confuses me a bit.

I had a similar problem when running jre in linux.
    Any help really appreciated.

    Hi Kenan,
Thank U and please tell me where I can find JDK 1.3.1_04, I searched in google but it couldn't find.
However, as the error message when I install Oracle 8.1.7, I think it needs JDK 1.1.8:

Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.1.8 or higher and try again.

If I can't get this working in 1-2 more tries I am giving up and moving to Microsoft. Installing Oracle 9iR2 on Redhat 9 should be easier than this from what I have heard.

3 ways get your problem, I think so.
1] after you installed oracle9i you had installed other java support software which had changed your environment variable. reinstall your oracle9i if you want kept standard system.
2] you have changed a new user login your system, which is lost some operating right or environment variable.
3] some file on your computer had lost or replaced.
however reinstall oracle is good idea.
    delete your c:\oracle and c:\program files\oracle
then use REGEDIT search all the 'ora' string, erase them.
after you uninstalled the oracle on you computer, you can reinstall, maybe you should check (in dos prompt input'set') JAVA_HOME is not set when you install oracle.

FYI..I have a colleague who is able to work on both...BI Publisher Template Mgr and Oracle Fin Forms with latest JRE installed..So dont think its a server issue, its just my client setup. Any help is appreciated.

What is the difference between your client and your colleague client (in terms of client OS, browser, installed applications, ..etc)?
Do you meet the requirements in (Recommended Browsers for Oracle E-Business Suite 11i [ID 285218.1])?

  • JRE not found while installing Oracle 9i on Centos 3

    Hi
I am Installing Oracle 9iR2 (9.2.0.4) on Centos 3 OS. But the runInstaller script stops showing the following message:
The Java RunTime Environment was not found at F/bin/java. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.
: No such file or directory
I found that there is no need of installing a separate JRE for 9iR2 because it comes with its own bundled JRE. Then why runInstaller is complaining about a missing JRE. Please help me in solving this.
    Specifications :
Operating system: Centos 3 Update 9
    Kernel : 2.4.21-50.EL i686
    Thanks
    Ganesh

    Finally I got the solution.
For a long time I was roaming around installing JRE and modifying environment settings.
I verified the oraparam.ini and found it was OK.
But as per Ivan, i checked the DVD and also got a link in web which describes about corruption of linux files when they are burned under windows (Due to some Smart Character conversion).
Earlier i had burned the folders extracted from downloaded ship*.cpio.gz (Disk1, Disk2, ...)
But this time i made ISO images from extracted folders and burned to DVD.
After Inserting the new DVD, the installer started and finished installation in one go.
    Thanks For your replies.

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre
    -Duser.dir=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/assistants/dbca/jlib

Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:

    Workaround: Beats me.
    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.

I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using

I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

  • Can not install Oracle on Redhat 7.3

    I have installed Redhat 7.3 . I tried to install Oracle 8i Release 2 (8.1.6).
But when I try to run runInstaller, nothing runs, Applet(JRE) does not open.
    what is the problem?
I have successfully installed this Oracle 8.1.6 on Redhat 6.2

    Hi there;
Here is what I have done to install Oracle8i 8.1.7 on Redhat7.3:
    Things you need to download:
    JAVA:
    Get the JDK - jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    Get the JRE - jre118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2
    use bzip2 OR tar:
    tar -xvjf jdk-1.1.8_v3.tar.bz2 -C /usr/local
    as well for jre118
    Symbolically link them:
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3/bin/java /bin/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3/bin/jre /bin/jre
    ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    ln -s /usr/local/jre118_v3 /usr/local/jre
    After you: tar -xvf /tmp/linux81701.tar
    chmod 777 Disk1
    cd Disk1
    chmod 777 runinstaller
Now you should be able to run the <runInstaller>
when you receive this error close to end just click on ignor:
Error in invoking target relink of makefile /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/precomp/lib/ins_ctx.mk" Or something similar
The below operations should be performed logged in as root.
changes must be done on the root.sh script:
    line 102 Read:
    RMF=/bin/rm -f
    changed it to: RMF=`/bin/rm -f`
    line 156
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}`
    change it to:
    RUID=`/usr/bin/id|$AWK -F\( '{print $2}'|$AWK -F\) '{print $1}'`
    Execute the script root.sh.
Ignore the errors about not being able to delete the files.
After you finish with: Net8 Configuration Assistant:
The below operations should all be performed logged in as oracle.
    cd $ORACLE_HOME<In my machine is:cd product/8.1.7>
    tar -xvzf /tmp/glibc-2.1.3-stubs.tar.gz
    ./setup_stubs
    Then exit from: $ORACLE_HOME
and edit .bash_profile OR .bashrc whichever you modified in preinstall
add the following line: export ORACLE_SID=<whatever you named it during install>
My machine read as this: export ORACLE_SID=oral
At this point I strongly suggest you logg out from Oracle Account and re-log again
    Then edit this file: /etc/oratab
    and change: *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:N To *:/home/oracle/product/8.1.7:Y
Now you can use dbstart and dbshut scripts from the command mode to start and stop the database.
most likely when you try to start the database for the first time you will receive
the error: ORA-01081<you can't star database is already startet>
Then go to svrmgrl and connect internal and type: shutdown Abort
re-start your Database and you are ready to go!!!!!!
    Hope that is help
    Abdul

  • Can't install Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 3.0 (woody)

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 3.0 (kernel 2.4.19 and glibc 2.2.5) but the runInstaller program does not start.
It displays the msg "Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait..." and nothing more happens.
I found lots of posts on this forum regarding installing Oracle, but none of the workarounds for Debian seems to work.
I'm using Blackdown's JDK 1.1.8, but even with it the runInstaller does not start (it's installed in /usr/local/java, as Oracle expects).
I tried "unset LANG", but it didn't work. Also tried "export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5", nothing either.
It's not possible to use Debian 2.2, I must install Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 3.0. Also I successfully installed Oracle 9.0.1 on the same machine I'm trying to instal Oracle 8.1.7.
Has anyone successfully installed Oracle 8.1.7 on Debian 3.0? What should I do install it?
    Regards,
    Ivens Porto

I had to install the newest 118 JRE from IBM and change:

As a test, install the 32-bit JRE and run the FMw installer again. If it continues past this point - you've got the 32-bit installer and not the 64-bit installer. :)

  • Cannot open Photoshop: get error: To open "Adobe Photoshop CS5.app," you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?  However installing Java SE 6 runtime does not fix nor does installing Oracle Java SE 7. Adobe says Apple is problem.

Searching the internet for solutions to this and some discussion with Adobe.
Adobe say Photoshop does not use java so it should not be asking for a java runtime.
The question is how can I stop Photoshop asking to install java since Photoshop does not need or use Java to run?
Found various links that might be helpful:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/58203/mountain-lion-with-java -7-only/58841#58841,

    Adobe's Installing Java SE 6

However as I have Oracle Java SE 7 installed and SE 6  is deprecated and no longer supported for security reasons.
Apple is actually responsible for Java 6's security. They take Oracle's code and do whatever is needed to make it compatible with Apple's OS. Java 6 is still getting security updates from Apple. Versions 6 and 7 can also exist on the same drive. They won't interfere with each other.
Also I am assured in no uncertain terms by Chris Cox over at Adobe that Photoshop CS 5 does not use java at all and that the java error message  and so called dependency is just an error on the part of Apple.
I did find a topic where Chris stated that for CS6, which I know is true. I've installed CS6 (and CC) on a newly formatted drive in Mountain Lion, and neither made any mention of requiring Java. Could have sworn CS5.5 and earlier did you Java for a few functions. Though I likely only assumed that since that version and earlier always causes a prompt to install Java if it isn't already on the drive.
So is there any way to run Photoshop with SE 7 only installed or even better with no java installed?
It doesn't really matter much if Java is installed. Java 6 should put an app in the Utilities folder by the name of Java Preferences. Open that, and you can completely disable it by undoing the check boxes.
Perhaps there is a way to make OS X stop thinking it needs java SE 6 to run Photoshop CS 5.
Apple would have to make a change to the OS itself. It's a not a user accessible setting.

  • How can I install a jre on client machines with no Internet Access

    Hi
I have a lot of client machines located throughout the country which are connected to a central network (Oracle) application server. The client machines do not have internet access. The application now uses an applet which is accessible from the network. I would like to use the <jsp:plugin> tag to automatically download and install a jre on the client browsers that don't have a jre installed, when they access the jsp page. Unfortunately, even using iepluginurl="http://server-address/jinstall-1_4_2-windows-i586.cab, the client machines still need to access the internet to install the JRE as the cab file needs to access files at the Sun site.
Is there any online jre installer, that can be used on a network where the client machines do not have internet access? Or do I need to install the JRE manually on each machine? The browsers are all Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    Thanks
    David

    Thanks for your reply ChuckBing.
Unfortunately I had already copied the instructions I found in the Sun documentaion to the letter and it still needed access to the internet. In the end I solved the problem by pointing the iepluginurl to a non existent file and putting a URL, pointing to an offline JRE executable on the server, as the message that appears when the applet cannot be loaded. The clients then have the choice of downloading the JRE or installing it online by clicking on the URL.
    Thanks anyway.
    David
