Solaris 8 in ultra 2 got panic and auto reboot when install Oracle software
Dear all,
I installed Solaris 8 by selecting 'Entire Solaris Software Group' and select 32 bit support only in an old ultra II machine. Then I tried to install Oracle 8.1.7 in the same machine but machine always got panic and started auto reboot when Oracle installed about 17% or 20% or even 70% (I tried install the minimum of Oracle).
What is the problem? Anyone can help?
Thanks in advance,
VickyI think you need to check the parameters like SHMMAX etc in /etc/system file as recommanded by oracle if not already added you need to add them .Oracle manuals have a list of these parameters and don't forget to reboot and boot with boot -r after adding these parameters.
Make sure you have sufficient memory or some patch recommanded by Oracle .

Oracle 9i install failing on Solaris 10
Oracle 9i install on Solaris 10 fails at the Database creation stage with Ora error "Out of Memory"
I have a Ultra 10 with 1GB RAM, 2GB swap and lot of space in the filesystem where I am installing Oracle
The oracle release notes asks for increased value for shmmax, shmmni etc by editing /etc/system and according to Solaris 10, it is not required as kernel dynamically allocates those values. It looks like it is NOT. How can I verify?
rcladm talks about shmmax values only with projects. How can I verify that all my applications running on a this box has a higher SHMMAX values and not on per project basis.
In older versions, sysdef could tell us the current SHMMAX values. Is there any comparable commands in Solaris 10.
I am not that comfortable with the rcladm features. Can some one show some examples.
Is anyone successful in installing Oracle9i on Solaris 10. I heard Oracle patch set 9.2.0.5 and 9.2.0.6 is certified with Solaris 10. Does it mean the original version of 9.2 does not install on Solaris 10?'Net Configuration Assistant is failing" from installation. I tried twice and got the same problem. I tried to run 'netca' from the command line and got the same problem - Java runtime problem. I tried to install patch and could not find Oracle patches for Solaris 10 and the patches are for Solaris 9.
Does anyone have suggestion?

Installing Oracle 9i in Solaris 10
Hi
I have a server having OS Solaris 10 SPARC Edition 64 bit. I want to install Oracle 9i client in that server. I have seen in many forums ppl saying that Oracle 9i is not compatible with Solaris 10 and there are some issues related to patches.
Can anyone help me in this matter.
Thanks and Regards
Abhishek VermaThanks for your replies guys.
I successfully installed Oracle9i client in Solaris 10. Initially I had to set up the Kernel parameteres as Prajeevan has suggested. Later the installation was quite staright forward and same as for Linux server.

Error installing interim patches - Oracle 10 - 10.2.0.4.0
Hi experts!
We are currently installing an ERP 6.0 system on SOLARIS 10. After installing Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 and respective patch set, the follpwing error is obtained while trying to install interim patches. Actually the first one was installed without problems...but starting from the second one....the bellow error is logged.
This is the log in /oracle/DB2/102_64/cfgtoollogs/mopatch:

Processing patch "p5747462_10204_Solaris-64.zip"...failed.
Reason: Cannot clean up temporary patch staging directory.
Could you please let know how to solve this issue? What is the "temporary patch staging directory" the mopatch is not able to clean up? Btw...the process is being run under oraSID user an permissions seems to be ok.
Thanks and regardsHi Diego,
Processing patch "p5747462_10204_Solaris-64.zip"...failed.
Reason: Cannot clean up temporary patch staging directory.
Are the permissions for these zip files and the directory containing this file OK ?
I think OPatch/MOPatch program is trying to access the directory /oracle/SID/102_64/.patch_storage, once try to verify the permissions of '.patch_storage'

[Solaris] rebooting in installing Oracle 10g R2 after Clusterware install
Hi..
Currently I am practicing the configuration of Oracle 10g R2 RAC (Solaris x86-64) with a Clusterware 10g on VMware
With the installation of Oracle Clusterware 10g software, there's no problem and look like working well on both nodes.
But, whenever I try installing the Oracle 10g R2 with 'install the software only' option, I got unstoppable rebooting
problem on the first node, rac1.
I tried both installation mode: OUI-typed and Silent approaches. Nothing worked!!
I wanted to figure out why this problem happened, but so far I did not have any bright answer for this. I looked in
the log and error files from /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs, but there's no good answer or hint to resolve the
problem I have now.
Until now I tried 4 times of installations, but all stopped and were automatically rebooted at the same point with
almost 3% copying of software. I found some of trainers are having same problem I have now.
oracle@rac1 ~ $ crs_stat -t
Name Type Target State Host
ora.rac1.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE rac1
ora.rac1.ons application ONLINE ONLINE rac1
ora.rac1.vip application ONLINE ONLINE rac1
ora.rac2.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE rac2
ora.rac2.ons application ONLINE ONLINE rac2
ora.rac2.vip application ONLINE ONLINE rac2
This happens whenever I install the Oracle 10g R2 software.
Is there any unknown or hidden problem regarding CRS or something else?
Anybody has some hints or solution to this problem? If so, please let me have it ASAP.
Thank you so much.I have gone through similar problem when installing oracle 10g in linux. You should follow the oracle installation documentation and make sure that all required OS patches and packages must be installed before starting the oracle installation. In my installation few OS packages was missing in the oracle documentation too and searching over the net solved the problem. I have installed few extra OS packages (RPM) and installed oracle successfully.

Installing oracle 10g release 2 on spark solaris!! urgent help!
hi guys!
Am installing oracle 10g r2 on spark sun solaris. I did install the software without any pb, but when installing the database using dbca, I have this errors.
ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgpcreates
Edited my kernel parameters and in the /etc/system file, ai've added
set noexec_user_stack=1
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=1024
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=256
set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=10
Space aint an issue and dont know how to over come this error!
Should ai just install the db using scripts and run the neccessary .sql scripts instead of going through dbca?
junior DBA in distress. This appears to be because of low semaphores setting. Did you reboot your server after making the /etc/system parameter changes ?
