Installing Oracle Personal-not on network

Hi, I'm studing through the Oracle University.
For pactice I tried installing the Oracle 9I personal edition on my private ccomputer.
The problem: Iwm not connected to a net work, and I don't have a ready DB. I installed all the software, and I don't know hoe to start working, because I should enter a password, connection etc. How should I work? I have to build somthing? how to start??

Which editiom should I download foe a stand alone computer: personal/enterpriseThere is just the one download. Personal or Enterprise is an installation option. Given that you are not developing stuff for a commercial product you can choose the Enterprise install.
Should I install it and use the installation's configuration to the DB?Personally I prefer to install the software only and build the database as a separate task.
If you've already got it installed then you may need to de-install that first. You can use the OUI to do this.
what values should I enter to the different parameters??Just accept the defaults. They will be good enough for your purposes. When you know more about Oracle you can fiddle, erm, tune them.
Good luck, APC

  • Installing Oracle Personal edition

    Hi,
I am Ritesh Kothari.Currently doing my MS in computer science from Ohio University. I want to install Oracle Personal Edition on my Win98 machine. Currently I have 1 GB of hard disk free.I have downloaded the Oracle9i Personal Edition Release 9.0.1.1.0 for Microsoft Windows 98
    The file: A91514-01.zip.
But when I click on setup.exe then nothing happens. I didnt understand what is the problem? Plz help me.
    Ritesh

    Try this:
Just found this on the be.comp forum: Will try it tonight.
    Oracle 8.1.5 Personal Edition
Oracle does not support installing version 8.1.5 PE into
    Windows Millennium.
As an unsupported workaround, you may add the following line
to the [compatibility95] section of win.ini prior to
    installation:
    Jrew=0x00080000
After setup is complete, Oracle will recommend a reboot.
    There is one additional step necessary prior to reboot;
Oracle may add a non-standard path statement to the
autoexec.bat file. Please modify this SET PATH
statement to use short-filenames if you find a quoted
LFN string represented as part of the path. You can
confirm that the path was merged successfully into the
registry after reboot by examining the PATH variable
    in the registry at
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Environment
Symptoms of a missing Oracle path statement in the registry are that Net8 Easy Config will not launch.
Please note that Oracle does not support the use of this
product in Windows ME, but have authorized these workarounds
    for testing purposes only.

  • De-installing Oracle personal edition

I've installed Oracle Personal Edition 8.1.6 on a D: drive of an NT 4.0 machine. As it turned out, I really needed to install it on C:. So, I attempted to de-install it from D:. When done with the de-installation using the Universal Installer (and it told me that all the products were removed), I rebooted and proceeded to install on the C: drive. The installer told me that there still was an instance on the D: drive. I attempted to remove all Oracle-related keys from the registry, with no success. There are two services still on the system (listener and the one for the instance). How do I cleanly delete all traces of the previous install?

first you had to stop all oracle stuff of services then you have to de-install the things. Oracle has one disadvantage is if you remove all stuff from regedit then also it'll give some problem for installation.
So better you install o.s. again do the installation it'll work prefectly.
    cheers then.

  • Trouble installing Oracle Personal in Windows 7 64-bit environment

Hi, I just purchased Oracle Personal Edition and it does not install.
    Details:
    Hardware: Dell laptop, purchased 6/2011
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.30 GHz, 8 processors
    RAM: 8GB real, 16GB virtual
Hard drive available space: 119 GB on C: drive, 505 GB on D: drive
Product purchased: Oracle Personal Edition, 11.2.0.1.0 for Windows x64 (64-bit)
I originally had an instance of Oracle XE on this machine. I have uninstalled it with Windows Uninstall and followed that up with the following actions in Regedit:
    Deleted the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE key.
    Deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Ora*
    Removed directories c:\Oraclexe and c:\Program Files\Oracle
    Rebooted.
I downloaded the two Oracle server files from the cloud, extracted the zipped directories, copied "2 of 2"'s contents to the "1 of 2"'s directory, and ran setup.exe
Oracle Installer started up. The first screen asked for my email address and whether I wanted to receive Oracle propaganda by email (no).
The second screen, Installation Option, asked if I wanted to 1: create and configure a database; 2: install database software only; or 3: upgrade an existing database. I chose option 1.
The third screen, System Class, asked if I wanted a Desktop Class database or Server Class database. I chose Desktop Class.
I clicked Next and Oracle Installer shut down without a warning message.
Does anybody have an idea of how I can install this software?

Yes, the purpose of this license was just to use Oracle for my own personal use. Downloading a copy of Enterprise Edition from OTN won't solve the problem; it's the same file as the Personal Edition file, and that file doesn't work on my computer. The installer prompts for the type of installation (Personal, Standard, Enterprise) around step 4 or 5 of the install, and I never made it past step 3. The problem is that the installer crashes without leaving any error message, which means I can't fix the problem. I have no way of knowing that the installer couldn't handle my computer configuration, but I do know that my computer exceeds the minimum requirements for an install. Someone at Oracle should consider it a BUG that the installer shuts down without any indication of the reason for the shutdown. I requested a refund not because the product has a bug, but because the installer didn't work. A product that doesn't install is a product that hasn't been delivered to the customer. This is a very, very basic problem that Oracle must fix.

  • How to install Oracle as a non-networked application?

Let me explain. I just got DSL and now my machine, which to all practical purposes is not networked (except for the cable to the DSL router/modem) looks to Oracle like it is. To make matters worse it also uses DHCP. This leads Oracle to recommend that I install the Microsoft (this is on WXP) loopback adapter. No problem except that said adapter wants you to enter a domain in the configuration panel and my machine is not part of any domain. So I can't get a working loopback configuration, so Oracle won't find itself.
While this insistence on network and domains is perhaps understandable in enterprise software, it is neverthless a nuisance for me, the developer. How can I persuade Oracle to go back to using good old 127.0.0.1 as the fixed network address, pretend that the machine is not networked and stop fussing about DHCP, domains etc etc?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

Ah, I can see how that would work. So the trick is to install Oracle with networking disabled and also to make sure that the T-Com Online Control application is not started automatically at boot time but to launch it later manually after Oracle is already
running? I will give it a try. Having to choose between Oracle and being online (plus lots of reboots) would have been crippling. I will also try the suggestion to give localhost as the machine's address at installation time
I keep thinking that there must be a knob somewhere to tell Oracle to just ignore the network but untill I find it these are good suggestions. Thanks.

  • ITunes unable to install? - Could not access network location %APPDATA%/.

Okay, I received a never used iPod Nano
(Model MC034LL ,Version 1.0. 2 PC, it looks like this http://www.iphonemag.ch/wp-content/uploa…
for Christmas this year, however; I'm having some trouble installing iTunes.
I have already downloaded iTunes, but installing seems to be the problem.
The 'iTunesSetup' icon appears on my desktop and I double-clicked it to begin the installing process.
When I do so, it says
"Gathering required information... Status: Computing Space Requirements"
after a few seconds it says, "Could not access network location %APPDATA%/."
As soon as I click 'retry' it says the same thing.
If I press cancel, the same message pops up and then it says,
    "iTunes Installer Completed
The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
Your system has not been modified To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
Click exit to finish the installer"
I tried the help page for iTunes, but noting seemed helpful.

Could not access network location %APPDATA%/
With that particular variety of 1606 (it's a 1606 error message even though the 1606 error message number isn't returned by the iTunes installer), the following Microsoft document is worth a try:

  • Install Problem: "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\."

I get "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\." when trying to install or uninstall itunes. Has anyone seen this. I've tried several of the general troubleshooting topics.

Similar problem..."Could not access network location ." went through all the microsoft repairs for a 1606 error. No resolve. My itunes used to work perfectly then when I went through an itunes initiated update, then my itunes would bring up the error whenever I tried to update. I uninstalled itunes then tried to reinstall without any success. Still get the error. And now I dont have itunes. Has anyone figured this out yet or do I need to abandon and go to droid?

  • A problem when install oracle personal 8i --"jrew perform illegal operation"?

seems something wrong. but i can't figure out.
can u please tell me how to correct it?

For me, I will stop all the Oracle's system services from <Administrative tools> <services>.
    And then,
    1. Delete all the Oracle's directories. if I have it on a seperate drive, format it.
    2. Go to registry editor by typint regedit /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ click on the ORACLE folder and delete it including sub-folder entries.
    3. Go to registry editor /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services find all the Oracle's system services and delete them.
    4. Remove the directory from C:\Programs Files\Oracle on Oracle's Inventory stuff etc ...
It is my fastest way to uninstall everything and start a fresh install.
I figure it out myself and it's not official to remove it. So, take it as your own risk (but, it should work).

I had this same problem with this same installation on ME. After a smooth installation with PO 8, I suspected spaces in path names, since the 8i install appears to be java based. If you go into windows regedit (Win ME does not read from autoexec.bat), and search for oracle home, and all 'home' paths you have tried specifying in the initial 8i install interface, upon editing your oracle home path, you may find a space character discreetly tucked at the end of that path name. What's more, just correcting your paths through regedit may only temporarily solve your problem. Also search/correct your prompt. A quick verification of this is if, from a dos window, your prompt looks like:
    C:\> _
(notice the space between the > and _ characters) I think this is either a MS bug, or an image disk install bug, and suspect, after reading of your same problem, it comes from MS.
    Hope this helps,
    KJ
