Installing Oracle XE when ORACLE_HOME exists
I have a Windows 2003 Server box that has Oracle Client 10g already installed. This client is needed to connect to a production database. Can I install Oracle XE without destroying the original client installation?
Yes.

Is it possible to install Oracle EBS R12 on existing (shell) Oracle 11.1.0.7 DB?
user4434301 wrote:
OK...I could be crazy, but I didn't see doing an installation of EBS R12 on a pre-existing 11.1.0.7 DB in there anywhere. It looked like the regular install directions. Are you sure?If you mean to say if you can install R12 with an existing EBS/standalone database then the answer is No.
If you mean to say if you can lay down R12 software (to upgrade from 11i) with an existing EBS database then the answer is Yes.
I hope it is clean now.

Install Oracle Access Manager in existing Access Manager domain
Hi
I am operator of a windows system with Oracle Access Manager installed.
We use OAM for SSO against Webpages in OIM running on Jboss, and now we are going to implement against a WebLogic webapplication too.
The userbase is standard Active Directory
I did not set up OAM myself so I'm not completely sure how it works.
To be able to test the SSO solution given by an external provider, I need to have a proper stage environment.
My idea is to set up another OAM on another server, wich points towards the same AD domaincontroller as the existing OAM
Is this possible? In the installation guide I find that the new AccessManager system should be added into the existing OAM configuration , before we turn of the existing OAM and then install the complete OAM on the new server. Then we can turn on the existing OAM again, and implement them as clusters. I would like them to be two indipendent instances not affecting one another, but in the same AD domain to be able to test features in one of them and use the other as the production server.
My fear is that I "mess up" the form in AD created from the old OAM, and that way mess the upp production environment.
Edited by: user631873 on 11.sep.2009 06:22Hi,
Technically, you can certainly set up a new OAM infrastructure which points to the existing AD instance. You could do this in a number of ways, for example:
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same users and configuration branch as the existing instance, so that the new instance is effectively just an extension of the existing instance (with extra Identity and Access Servers, etc) ;
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same AD instance, but uses different User searchbase and Config branch. In this case the new instance is more or less completely separate, but it happens to use the same directory ;
- set up the new instance so that it points to the same Users, but a different Config branch, in which case the new instance has independed OAM configuration (policies, authentication schemes etc) but operates on the same user base.
(In OAM you can define separate ldap locations for the Users, Identity Config and Access Config.)
It depends on exactly what you want, but if the idea is to have a proper stage environment, then it is usually better for them to be completely independent, including the directory. OAM can update users as well as policies, and additionally different major versions of OAM have different schemas, so there are risks when using the same directory instance. Load testing is also an issue, since the directory is accessed extensivley by OAM.

Installing Oracle for SAP on existing non-SAP RDBMS
The title says it all -
I haven't been able to find any real docs supporting or not supporting the practice of using an existing Oracle 10.2 RDBMS to add an SAP DB. I know it's technically possible, but since the SAP Oracle installer is configured to build a new RDBMS for each SAP instance/DB installation, I'm wondering if it can be altered and piggy back on an existing one.
The reason is I have a customer who would like to do this so they can continue to use an existing DEV Oracle server without adding the stress of an indepedent set of oracle binaries running, and consuming resources.> But aside from that - let's assume the release and patch levels from their own DBs are equal to the requirements from SAP. What other considerations/issues/supportabilty problems might be encountered?
If it's not a production system you could certainly go for it.
I think though, that it's MUCH LESS maintenance work using a second ORACLE_HOME than to try to fiddle with the huge amount of single/interim patches SAP requires. If you just check
Note 871096 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/patch collections for Oracle 10.2.0.2 (59 interim patches)
Note 1137346 - Oracle 10.2.0: Patches/patch collections for Oracle 10.2.0.4 (39 interim patches)
I can imagine you having a pretty hard time aligning that with the other non-SAP databases. On top may come incompatibilities with OPatch (SAP uses a "special OPatch") where you may need to switch between the official one and the "SAP-one" depending on which patch you install.
The only additional resources the new ORACLE_HOME uses is harddisk space (some GB) - which shouldn't be more expensive than the work you'll need to invest to keep the system and working for both.
Technically it can be done - certainly.

Problems Installing Oracle Metadata Repository into Existing Database
Folks,
I'm slowly going through the process of installing the Metadata Repository into a 10g database, using RepCA I've managed to determine all the DB parameters required for setting etc. The only thing RepCA now reports is missing is the Ultrasearch schema & packages.
I've copied the ultrasearch dirs from the RepCA distribution and placed them in my $ORACLE home dir, I've also attempted to run the admin install script 'wk0setup.sql' which throws out several errors listed below. If anyone has successfully gone through this process on Solaris I would love to hear your about your experience & advice.

AustinHi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
Hope this helps.

How to install oracle discoverer 4.1.37 when multiple oracle homes exist
Dear gurus,
Can anybody put some light on this issue. I have 2 oracle homes in my machine. When i select any one of them to install oracle discoverer, it says oracle 6i for nt, oraHome92 is already used for ora 82 Beta. I tried to create a Newfolder for Discoverer installation, it also does not work. Please anybody can solve this.
Plus i need to have know the steps involved in installing Oracle Discoverer 4.1.68.06?
Help me please
arizuddingThis is a known 'challenge' on the ol' 4.x and before version of Disco where Disco needs the default Oracle home and doesn't expect anybody else to be camping on it.
Since Michael's already got the instructions on his site, I won't go over them again - and I'm sure he's given good instructions.
As for the steps involved in installing Disco 4.1.68.06:
1. find the software (metalink, otn, etc).
2. realize it doesn't exist
3. get mad as you'll think Oracle screwed up
4. realize that there is NO version 4.1.68.06
5. be embarrassed!
OK, kidding, but the version you most likely are talking about is: 4.1.48.06. Also, there is one final, final, no more, we ain't coming out with another version, version. That's 4.1.48.08.
Assuming you already have a version such as: 4.1.36 or 4.1.47, etc. you can get old patches, upgrades, etc. by checking metalink. Note that in some cases (ie: maybe 4.1.48.08) you have to put in a TAR with Oracle (and go through the usual "we don't support that version anymore" discussion with them).

PS. By the way, I worked in SA for about 3 1/2 years many, many moons ago (multiple places like Jeddah, Riyadh, Taif, etc.). Where's Jabail? -
ORA-12157 when installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5?
Hi, Im installing Oracle 10g on Fedora 5, I did it once, but when I tried to set it up again I
got this error on the last part of the install...
ORA-12157: TNS: internal network communication error
Anybody know what might cause this?
I think I have installed all required RPMs and set environment variables, kernel parameters,
created oracle users and groups as needed, but still get the above error. I searched the error and some claim it is a problem using newer glibc 2.4.4, so I tried installing on Fedora 4 and had the same error even with glibc 2.3???
Thanks so much,

Oracle ORA_16000 when trying to add standby instance to existing rac node
I attempted to use dbca to add a new standby instance to an existing cluster. The cluster is 4 nodes, Linux RHEL 5.3 Oracle 11.1.0.7. Also using ASM, asmlib, ocfs2 and shared block devices.
ASM instances are up and functional on all nodes. current config appears to be running normally and correctly.
I have a 4 instance database running on the cluster. I also have 3 physical standby active data guard instances running on 3 of the nodes. I wanted to add a new ADG instance to the 4th node.
While running dbca I received ORA-00604 and ORA-16000.
The active data guard database was open (read only) and redo apply was on. I am using data guard broker as well, but not grid control.
Does anyone have a procedure for adding an instance in this environment? Do I need to have the standby in mount state? If dbca won't work does anyone have a manual procedure for adding a new instance?
Thankszulo
Let's say you adding node nusclust160## to you existing cluster and dbca is a pain to use.
Extend clusterware to the nusclust160## server.
re: Page 64 of Oracle® Clusterware Administration and Deployment Guide 11g Release 1 (11.1)
1a.
Add undo tablespace to support additional node.
Re-check space for DATA1 on nusclust16007 and /dbdata/ORADB on sun16109.
As of Thursday, May 21, 2009 the DATA1 asm group has 53,584M free.
As of Thursday, May 21, 2009 the /dbdata/ORADB has 77G free.
In a separate terminal window on nusclust16007 run the following in sqlplus
CREATE UNDO TABLESPACE UNDOTBS4 datafile '+DATA1' SIZE 13300M AUTOEXTEND ON ;
This will take a long time to create this tablespace. Please minimize the window after submitting the ddl and move on to the next step.
1b.
Insure .bash_profile on nusclust160## should look like this:

export ORACLE_BASE=/apps/dbs/oracle
export PATH=/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/X/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/sfw/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin
export server=`uname -n`
export PS1="$ORACLE_SID@$HOSTNAME >"

alias More='more'
alias ll='ls -lt | more'
Gather IP addresses for fourth node from /etc/hosts:

10.333.248.### nusclust160##-priv
2. Start Oracle Universal Installer:
Go to CRS_home/oui/bin and run the addNode.sh script on one of the existing
nodes. Oracle Universal Installer runs in add node mode.
The Oracle inventory on nusclust16007, nusclust16008, and nusclust16036 are found under:
/home/oracle/oraInventory
Use a X windows enabled session (The OUI takes 33 minutes)
cd /apps/ocr/oracle/product/11.1.0/crs/oui/bin
./addNode.sh
a. In the first screen specify a new node as :
Public Node Name: nusclust160##
Private Node Name: nusclust160##-priv
Virtual Host Name: nusclust160##-vip
If you receive the error:
" tar. ./bin/racgvip.orig: Permission denied"
Do the following:
cd /apps/ocr/oracle/product/11.1.0/crs/bin
ls -al racgvip.orig
paste here:
chown root:oinstall racgvip.orig
chmod 771 racgvip.orig
should now show:

4.
Run Netbackup Oracle Agent link script.
As oracle make sure ORACLE_HOME is fined.

then
cd /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/
./oracle_link
ls -al $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libobk.so
should show:

5.
On the target node, run the Net Configuration Assistant (NETCA) to add a
listener. Add a listener to the target node by running NETCA from the target node and
selecting only the target node on the Node Selection page.
I shall do the following on nusclust160## using X Windows
Now before I do this I see:
crs_stat -t
ora.nusclust160##.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
ora.nusclust160##.ons application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
ora.nusclust160##.vip application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
Connect to nusclust160## and open up X windows session.
netca
Choose Cluster configuration.
select nusclust160## as the node to configure.
Choose Listener configuration, then Add.
When it prompts you for a listener name choose LISTENER as it will append _NUSCLUST160##(server name) to end of the LISTENER name to make a complete listener name.
At this point you will have listener to support the new node in the crs.
now
crs_stat -t
will show:
ora....0#.lsnr application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
ora.nusclust160##.gsd application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
ora.nusclust160##.ons application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
ora.nusclust160##.vip application ONLINE ONLINE nusclust160##
At this point the necessary crs entries for gsd, ons, vip, and the listener on nusclust160## all we need now are the ORADB4 and +ASM4 instances added.

1.
Undo tablespace creation was taken care of in Step I,1. Check on the progress of the creation of tablespace UNDOTBS4 in the minimized window. Should see tablespace on primary and physical standby databases.
2. First we shall set up the +ASM4 instance on nusclust160## and add it to the cluster.

When I install Oracle 9i on RedHat Linux 7.3 ...
Hello , everybody :
When I install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.1) on Red Hat Linux 7.3 ,
I got an error when invoking the target of "install" in makefile : "ins_ctx.mk" ,
all of the message is "Error in invoking target install of makefile /oracle/product/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk"
and I edit the file "$ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk " , add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the "INSO_LINK" ,
but there is still an error when I press "Retry" and "Retry" ...
Will it occur any error when I use Oracle 9i on Linux (because I press "Ignore") ?
Does somebody can tell me how to solve the problem ?
Thanks a lot.Hi Lai Yu-Tai,
I'd the same problem. You can fix the problem (fixing provided by Werner Puschitz, http://www.puschitz.com/OracleOnLinux.shtml):
"Error in invoking target install of makefile /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk"
I saw this error only in connection with Oracle 9i R2 (9.2.0) installation.
Also, this is the only problem I experienced with Oracle 9i R2 on Red Hat 8.0 (and 7.3 -MQ). But this does not necessarily mean that you won't see other problems described here.
The following errors showed up in $ORACLE_HOME/install/make.log:
/lib/libdl.so.2: undefined reference to `_dl_addr@GLIBC_PRIVATE'
/lib/libdl.so.2: undefined reference to `_dl_open@GLIBC_PRIVATE'
/lib/libdl.so.2: undefined reference to `_dl_close@GLIBC_PRIVATE'
/lib/libdl.so.2: undefined reference to `_dl_sym@GLIBC_PRIVATE'
/lib/libdl.so.2: undefined reference to `_dl_vsym@GLIBC_PRIVATE'
It happens when the following step is executed:
/usr/bin/make -f ins_ctx.mk install ORACLE_HOME=/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0
Edit $ORACLE_HOME/ctx/lib/env_ctx.mk and go to "INSO_LINK =", add a "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" to the line and save it.
Here is the full line with the added "$(LDLIBFLAG)dl" flag:
INSO_LINK = -L$(CTXLIB) $(LDLIBFLAG)m $(LDLIBFLAG)dl $(Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time. -
I am receiving errors when installing Oracle Client 10.2.0.2.0 (Administrator) on zLinux. During the install I receive two notifications for File Not Found when the installer tries to create the link for lib32/libclntsh.so.10.1. I hit ignore on the pop-ups and the install completes. The Oracle Net Configuration Assistant then fails to launch with the following error:

Configuration assistant "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" failed
The "/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/cfgtoollogs/configToolFailedCommands" script contains all commands that failed, were skipped or were cancelled. This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same.
I have seen multiple threads relating to very similar errors, but none of the fixes that were suggested have worked. I have double checked the required Red Hat packages and made sure they were all installed on the server. All of the prerequisite checks for the installer are successful. Any assistance would be of most helpful!Worked with my Linux system admin and figured out that we were indeed missing some packages. There are 390 and 390x rpm's for Red Hat on System Z, i.e. 64 bit and 32 bit versions. Since we are running a 64 bit os some of those 32 bit packages did not get installed. Since our roles are split up, I am kind of blind as to the OS setup so I was not able to catch the problem. It is truly puzzling as to why Oracle would need 32 bit packages even though Oracle client is 64 bit. Regardless, after adding the 32 bit rpm's the installer was able to perform the linking operation that was failing, and the network configuration script ran successfully.

I met problem when installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Turbo Linux 7.0
I met problem when installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Turbo Linux 7.0.
After setting up environment variables, and successfully
accessed KDE interface, everything was going on well.
The process of installation blocked at 80% in "Database Creation
Process" dialog window.
I have tried two times and got the same result.
The error message is:
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-Kochi Gothic-medium-r-normal-
*-*100...
Help!I have done some oracle installations over RedHat 7.0 (not certificated):
Let's check some things:
1- You must have changed very few parameters on your shm.h sem.h files which are in /usr/include/linux directory.
2- You need to upgrade the glibc and libstdc libraries (.rpm)
3- You must have installed the jre116_v5 on /usr/jre and made a symbolic link like this
ln -s /usr/jre/jre116_v5 /usr/local/jre
4- You must include in the CLASSPATH parameter the jre116_v5 directory. It should look something like this
CLASSPATH=/usr/jre/jre116_v5:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib
5- Be sure to create and export all the parameters in your .bash_profile.
6- Run the ./runInstaller.sh in a terminal window inside the Xwindow.
You can find the jre116_v5 in www.backdown.org
I hope these tips help you
