Installing Oracle8i personal and Forms6i on Windows2000 professional

hello guys!! :)
I have installed Oracle 8i personal Edition on my PC (stand-alone) running Windows 200O professional Edition.
Now i want to install Forms 6i but when i do, the database crashes.
How can i install the Forms 6i with Oracle 8i personal edition on a stand-alone PC?
Any help will be deeply appreciated..
Thanks,
Sarwat Khan

Hi,
I would like to get ur advice on installing Oracle 8i
(8.1.7.0.0) Personal Edition on a laptop having Win2000
professional O/S. What is the best practice to be followed on
installing an 8i Personal edition on laptop? What patches and
bugs do I need to install after the oracle server installation
is done. I am having difficulties in collecting all this
prerequisites information before installation. Also I tried
searching information on this area on the metalink site but I
couldn’t find any. What steps should I be following to make sure
that I don’t get Management Server configuration errors
etc..after installing a 8i Personal edition on laptop
Thanks,

    I am trying to install Oracle8i Personal Edition, Version 8.1.5 on my system with Windows XP Pro on it.
    After copying the CD content to the Hard Drive and renaming symcjit.dll to symcjit_back.dll, and running the setup from the oracle folder on the C drive, I am having the following error message:
    " Invalid srttaging area. There are no top level components for Windows NT available for install from this satging area".
    Any clue?

    You may want to search the database forums or All forums categories first to see if this question is already answered. I see at least 6 threads in the database category level and 21 threads when I searched all categories for "invalid staging area." If you still do not the find the answer, please repost your question in the database forum.

    I am having a problem installing oracle8i personal edition on windows ME.
    The error on running the setup.exe was "jrew has caused an error in javai.dll. " A fix was reported on the internet for this , which is adding a line ": Jrew=0x00080000" to compatibility95 in the win.ini file. Appaarently this fix worked for few people, but it is making no difference for me.
    Please provide a solution for this. email:[email protected]

  • Installing Oracle8i (EE) and Oracle9iAS (EE) on different machines (Windows 2000)

    Hi, All:
    Greetings! We are new to Oracle9iAS and we need your help.
    We want to try all of the Oracle9iAS components for our Oracle8i (8.1.7) data warehouse, so we use two Windows 2000 server machines to do the test. One is for the Oracle8i database (8.1.7) and another is for the Oracle9iAS. However, we have not found the installation guide on the Oracle sites for installing Oracle8i (EE) and Oracle9iAS (EE) on different machines. We have no problem installing the Oracle8i (EE). Our questions are:
    1. Is there any installation guide for installing Oracle8i (EE) and Oracle9iAS (EE) on different machines (Windows NT/2000)?
    2. Should we follow the steps in the Oracle9i Application Server Installation Guide for Windows NT/2000?
    3. Is there anything or tips for the installation we should know?
    Please help us if you know anything about the installation. Thanks for your time and kindness!

    Hello,
    You can install oracle databaes and oracle 9ias on seperate machines which will have less problems indeed.
    All the documentation you get in technet is the latest !!!
    It is better you have 1.0.2.2 which is the latest release for Oracle 9IAS.
    The steps to install Oracle 9IAS in brief are as follows !!!
    > Install 8i database (which is not necessary in your case), but notedown the hostname, port, sid etc
    > Install 9IAS which requires the info of database which you have noted in step 1
    Follow the Installation documentation provided with Oracle 9IAS 1.0.2.2 which has screen shots !!!
    Also in technet a new folder 'Oracle9i by Example: Tutorial' has been added which has installation instructions !!!
    Hope this helps !!!

  • Problems installing Oracle8i Personal Edition

    Please help i have windows Me and i just purchased and oracle tool kit for my course which i am takig in school. the cd that i have is Version 8.1.5 for windows 98 is there a win me version becuase it don't want to install on my PC
    thanks

    There4s no version of Personal 8i for Windows ME. However, you can install this version in your system. Before you do this, modify your WIN.INI file, in section [Compatibility95], adding : Jrew=0x00080000. Reboot your system and try to install. Hope that helps you. Good luck.

  • How do I install 8i personal and developer on the same machine?

    I'm a College student and while Oracle 8i and developer are
    available at school, I would like to have both available at home
    because of the lack of available computers during lab times. I
    have 8i personal currently installed and that works fine, but
    was wondering if anyone could let me know what steps I need to
    take to install developer and make it work to where I don't have
    to access an outside server.
    Currently 8i is installed on my computer that runs WIN 98. Any
    idea if there is a way to install it on a computer that runs WIN
    ME. That would be my ideal computer to run these off of.

    if you have two hard drives the easiest might be to install panther on the second hard drive. this way you don't have top partition anything. make sure the drive is properly formatted it should be formatted mac os extended journaled with APM partition scheme. then just boot from the Panther install disk and install panther on the second drive. note that this will only work if your mac originally came with panther. did it?
    to switch between installs you can change the startup disk in system preferences->startup disk. then reboot. alternatively, reboot normally and hold option at the chime. this will boot you into startup disk manager where you can choose which drive to boot from.

    When installing Oracle8i Personal Edition in my PC, it does create a database. However, it does show the screen that it is creating a database with the message "database creation in progress".
    First, I thought it may take a long time to create a database. So I left the PC on from a few hours to a WHOLE WEEK: 4 hrs, for a day, 1.5 days and finally the whole week. Nothing works and NO RESULT.
    Please somebody help me and tell me what I did wrong.

    - rebooting the PC
    - reinstalling the Oracle8i (excluding the SQL+ Help files
    Then I:
    - accepted all the default values for dabase parameters
    - let the PC on for more than 12 hours

  • Oracle8i (8.1.7) fails to install on Win2k and P4

    Having a problem with Oracle8i 8.1.7 not installing on a Pentium 4 system. The PC is any Pentium 4 with Windows 2000 Professional installed.
    >
    When attempting to execute the setup.exe, Task Manager Processes show the setup.exe and jrew.exe begin to execute. Within a few seconds, both setup and jrew terminate without any errors. The end result is that the setup process never begins. We can install older (non i) versions such as 8.0 without problems.
    What's keeping the setup from functioning on the Pentium 4? Have verified this on both Dell and IBM systems.null

    Here is the information from Oracle. Oracle offers several
    possible workarounds. We used the third option and it worked.
    Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) for RDBMS 8.1.x Hangs on
    Machines
    with Pentium 4 Processors
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Versions Affected
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oracle Universal Installer for RDBMS 8.1.x
    Platforms Affected
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows
    NT,
    Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to be affected.
    Description
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    When installing Oracle 8.1.x Server Products with the Oracle
    Universal Installer on machines that use the Sun JRE and
    Symmantec JIT, the installer
    hangs.
    Specifically for the Windows platform, versions of OUI lower than
    1.7.1.9.0 will encounter this problem.
    Likelihood of Occurrence
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with the
    Sun JRE and Symmantec JIT, OUI version 1.7.1.9.0 and earlier,
    will
    encounter this problem.
    Windows NT, Windows 2000 and NetWare platforms are confirmed to
    be affected.
    Possible Symptoms
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The failure typically is that the affected application simply
    terminates.
    Workarounds
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Solution 1.
    1. Obtain patch number 1507768 from Metalink
    2. unzip the patch
    3. unjar the contents
    4. Go to the directory
    .\cd\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30/1
    \DataFiles\Expan
    ded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
    rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.ori
    5. Invoke OUI and install OUI to disk
    cd ./cd/Disk1/stage/win32/setup.exe
    6. Use the installed OUI to install the RDBMS
    7. Invoke OUI from the start menu, and install RDBMS software.
    Solution 2.
    1. Create a temporary directory on your server.
    2. Copy the contents of the Oracle RDBMS Server CD to the
    temporary
    directory created in step 1.
    3. Search the directory structure created in step 1 for the
    existence of
    the filename symcjit.dll.
    4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
    5. Run the setup.exe from the \install\win32 directory and
    install
    Oracle 8.1.x.
    Solution 3.
    To avoid the hang in the installation itself, do the following:
    a. Copy the install directory from the CD to the hard disk say,
    e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications
    (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e. SOURCE=f:/stage/products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.
    JRE_LOCATION=f:/stage/Components/oracle/swd/jre/1.1.7/1/DataFiles
    /Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD
    instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.
    OUI_LOCATION=f:/stage/Components/oracle/swd/oui/1.6.0.9.0/1/DataF
    iles/Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the
    first argument.
    (i.e. JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard
    drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the modified
    oraparam.ini and
    pick up the information from the CD since the absolute locations
    are
    specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database
    during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will
    not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and
    there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration
    Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been
    successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8
    Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for
    the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually.
    NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one
    with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for
    Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through the
    installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the
    configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the Start
    Menu.
    For each of the following files in the ORACLE_HOME:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the file to add "-nojit" as shown below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit -
    classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from the
    Start Menu.
    Patches
    ~~~~~~~
    Currently there is not a patched installer available to deal with
    this problem, one of the workarounds listed above must be used.

    I am currently using Firefox for my work at home job but I am also taking online classes and my school recommends Firefox as their supported browser. My Job recommends using a separate browsers for personal needs. My question is could I download lets say Firefox 22 and use that for professional purpose and download Firefox 21 and use that for completing my school work.

    You can only open the Profile Manager if all Firefox instances are closed.
    You can install multiple Firefox versions via a custom install in different installation folders and only use the older Firefox version when you really need it.<br />
    Do a custom install and install each version in its own program folder to use multiple Firefox versions.
