I tried to install BAM but when i run de setup.exe from the Oracle BAM CD1 the install shield wizard starts but i can't see the "Prerequisite Failure" neither the "Installation and log directory" (C:\OracleBAM\ and C:\OracleBAM\Logs\).
This problem occurred after i deinstall the ODAC for the first time and I now I can't install it again.
What can I do to be able to install it?

• Issues installing 10g ODAC on Windows 2008 with Oracle 10g Express

I am new to Oracle and am having an issue installing Oracle Data Access Components on Oracle 10g 64bit running on Windows 2008 64bit.
I need the ODAC installed to enable integration with SSIS.
The issue I have if i install using ODAC10203x64 the setup file fails with a javaw error and the ntdll.dll.
I then downloaded the ODAC1110720 which states it backwards compatible. It installs just fine, but now i am not sure as to how to configure it correctly as the Configuration util that loads in ODAC10203x64 does not run.
The ODBC drivers are not visible under the ODBC connection manager although this may be an issue of just opening the 32Bit version.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Ibrahim,
You should decide what you require.
32bit version can be installed on 64bit server and this should work fine (check the certification matrix for this).
The "problem" is that you would not gain any performance benefit from the 64bit server
If you want to have benefit you can upgrade the JVM to 64 bit version.
I did this 3 years ago and I do not remember exact steps though everything worked OK.
WARNING:
this  can be unsupported, ask support to be sure
- Install the 32 bit version on the server
- Download 64 bit Java JRE/JDK and install it (well, you can search the same release as included in the AppServer or try newer one, 7 for example)
- later, reconfigure the appserver so it uses the version you've installed, OR Copy the everything from c:\progfiles\java\... to the directory OraHome\... (forgot exact directories)
try to search the forum, there had been a thread with the same question

The machine came to me with an Oracle 9 client installed, so someone got an Oracle installer to run on it, though it may be the 32 bit version...

• Network install of ODAC

(cross-post on ODT forum)
Is there any way to install ODAC to a network drive, so that no files reside on the user PC? We are testing Vista on our user PCs, adn woudl like to be able to put ODAC and teh Oracle client on a network drive.
I have tried using the ODAC 11g beta install but this crashes out of the install if I specify a newtork drive as location.
I have tried intslaling the 10g Vista client + 10g ODAC locally, then copying files to network and chaning registry settings. Although ODP assembly loads, it fails on connect with generic Oracle Connection error.
I have spent several days trying to get this to work.
Does anyone have any experience of doing this?
Thanks
Eric

Yes, we do this, albeit with XP rather than Vista. Our 'install' involves granting access to the oracle folder on the network drive, with a drive mapping, and running a .reg (registry entry) file. The registry entries are similar to what you would find with a standard local install, but with the file locations at x:\Oracle\... It's possible that we add the network folder\bin to the path, but I'm not an admin anymore and I don't remember if we do this or not.
Loading the dlls off the network tends to make startup slower but makes administration vastly more simple.
The reg file looks like this;

• Where to running SQL Scripts after install of ODAC for Oracle Client?

I just installed ODAC for Oracle Client on a windows server, that runs a sql server database, for developers to connect a web app to an Oracle/Unix database. The install states to run SQL scripts located in the $ORACLE_HOME\ASP.NET\SQL directory after the install. I'm not sure where to run them? On the ORACLE DB on the Unix server? If someone could bring me up to speed I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If I do run the scripts, do you know what user they should be run as? The developer are using ASP.NET for connectivity.
Why there is no Oracle Expert answer this simple question? ?
After ODAC 11.1.0.7.20 installation completed, there is a message in the last screen:
*"Run the SQL script located in c:\app\Administrator\product\11.1.0\client_1\ASP.NET\SQL directory for a new installation or an upgrade of Oracle Providers for ASP.NET"*
The question is: How to run these 9 SQL scripts ?
In SQL*Plus, which oracle user should I connect to in order to run these 9 scrips, including:
InstallAllOracleASPNETProviders.sql
InstallOracleASPNETCommon.sql
InstallOracleMembership.sql
InstallOraclePersonalization.sql
InstallOracleProfile.sql
InstallOracleRoles.sql
InstallOracleSessionState.sql
InstallOracleSiteMap.sql
InstallOracleWebEvents.sql

• VS 2012 does not finish starting after installing ODAC 11.2 Release 5

I installed the ODAC 11.2 Release 5 (11.2.0.3.20) with Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio. When VS 2012 restarts the splash page comes up with a message to wait while an operation completes but it never does. Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem may be?
Running Win 7 Pro with VS 2012 Ultimate.
Paul

I would like to add some additional information to the above post. I am receiving the same error using the new release. The beta release worked fine. I completely uninstalled the beta and then installed the new release. Once installed, VS2012 stopped working. The splash screen comes up and then the little box stating that it is waiting for a background process to complete is displayed. That is it. From what I can tell, it is in a userwait state.
Unfortunately, when I uninstalled the component, it left some artifacts behind. When I now start VS2012, I get errors stating that Oracle ODT did not load correctly and then VS2012 stops working and exits. I am running VS2012 as administrator.
This behavior is exhibited on both Windows 8 and Windows7 Home Ultimate (both 64bit) and VS2012 ultimate.
The activity log shows what is giving the error, shows the following:

The above entry was thrown when VSDevTools had been removed from the system.
Unfortunately, I did not get any information about what exactly was causing the wait state when the Dev Tools for VS was installed. From Process Explorer, I could see that msenv.dll was chewing through cycles, waiting for multiple objects. I have stack prints for devenv.exe and msenv.exe as well as a thread screenshot if anyone is interested in seeing them.
Hopefully this will shed some light on what needs to be fixed.
Thanks,

• Odac install

Hi Friends,
I've installed 11.2.0.1.0 basic Instant client on Windows 2008 R2 server. I ran OUI installer as administrator. Sqlplus and ODBC connection to the databases work fine.
I would need to install ODAC components on top of it, I know the ODAC install comes with the oracle client but since I've installed the instant client I think it should be fine. I'm getting the below error when installing the ODAC components (ODAC112021Xcopy_x64.zip). I opened command prompt as administrator..
D:\downloads\ODAC112021Xcopy_x64>set oracle_home=D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1
D:\downloads\ODAC112021Xcopy_x64>install.bat all D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1 odac
Sharing violation
The system cannot find the path specified.
I made sure OracleMTSRecoveryservice is not running. Oracle home is in the path env variable. I've created tns_admin variable in the path variable as well. Not sure what I'm missing..  I've installed the Instant client and ODAC components (same install files) on Windows 2003 R2 server and it works just fine. I'm not sure if it's the problem with Windows 2008?  ALso want to mention SQL Server 2008 runs on the same server.
ANy help is much appreciated..Thanks a lot.

Has anyone got similar kind of errors?? Thanks much

• ODAC install for 64bit Windows 7

I am looking for an ODAC installer that I can run on Windows 7 64 bit. I have the 11.2 client installed already, but I need to compile a .net app. I installed the 64 bit client (Oracle 11.2) and then installed the ODAC 11.2 beta, but it turns out it is 32 bit and can't be loaded when I am running the 64 bit client. Is there one available?

Hi,
The ODAC bundle is indeed 32 bit. There will be a 64 bit 11.2 ODAC when it goes production, maybe as soon as late this month.
If you have a full 11.2 client installed, you should already have 11.2 ODP.net installed. What install type did you do? Administrator? Runtime? Custom? etc. If for some reason you didnt install ODP.NET into your existing 11.2 full client home, you should be able to go back and add it via selecting Custom install type and choosing ODP.NET from the full client install media.
Hope it helps,
Greg

Can I use SQL Developer to connect to Oracle Express. Kindly help me out asap.

Hello,
This is by designed in Entity Framework, the view is not designed to be editable by default. If you persist in editing a view, you need to create an editable view, for details, please check this blog:
How to create an updateable view with ADO Entity Framework and with LINQ to SQL
This blog is based on the SQL Server database, however, I notice that you are working with the Oracle database, I am not sure if the Oracle database provider for Entity Framework supports the editable view, I
suggest you could confirm this on the Oracle database forum:

• ODAC installs includes Oracle MTS Recovery service. Is this a must?

Hi,
I'm installing the ODAC on the PC which is just a client. However the installation prompted for " OS error in starting service OracleMTSRecoveryService". It is just a client PC, Not a server, do we really need this?
thanks
andrew

Hi,
As mentioned in the other post (what is the difference between odp.net and odac ? and multiple homes?
The .NET forums are probably a better place for these sorts of questions.
The Windows and .NET forums are located here:
http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=44
If you don't need or use Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) then, no, you don't need the OracleMTSRecoveryService service.

• Running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client installed

I have seen many postings on this issue but none of the suggested solutions have helped me.
I am running visual studio 2010 professional with SP1 on windows 7 64 bit machine. When I try to run a web service locally and call it with SoapUI, I get the following error message during OracleConnection.Open().
Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
I have tried setting up the build configuration and the project settings to target 32 bit but that has not helped. I have also tried removing the reference to System.Data.OracleClient that shows being under Program Files (x86) and add a new reference to the dll under GAC_64. That too did not work.
I only have the 64 bit client installed on my machine.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you

1. Visual Studio any version is 32 bit ONLY irrespective of hardware or OS bits.  So to DEVELOP with Oracle Client you MUST install 32 bit Oracle ODAC components. Task manager will show devenv.exe *32 (to confirm 32 bit Visual Studio application).
2. You can run your web application inside IIS/IIS Express in your PC which independently can be either 32bit or 64bit.  If it is 64 bit, you MUST also install 64 bit Oracle ODAC components which means you'll have to install both 32bit and 64bit in your 64 bit Win7 running on 64bit hardware.
3. In Visual Studio if you compile with "AnyCPU" as target, the resultant binaries (Web/NonWeb) can be both 32bit or 64bit.  So if target PC is "AnyCPU" or "x64", you MUST install Oracle ODAC 64 bit in the target OS if that target OS is 64bit.  You don't have to install 32bit ODAC in the target PC.
4. One more catch to above scenario is the target OS could be 64bit simulated OS on a 32bit hardware. In such case you MUST install both 32bit and 64bit ODAC components.
So while you ask your network team to download ODP.NET/ODAC Components make sure you ask them to download both 32bit and 64bit. Total nearly 600MB.
Hope this helps many people out there.

• ODAC with Oracle 10g and Visual Studio 2008

Hello-
Is the an ODAC version supporting Oracle 10g with tools for Visual Studio 2008? I've installed the ODAC 11.2 version for VS 2008, however the Oracle data source connection does not display for the Data Entity Model, only the usual SQL Server connections.
Thank you in advance!

Hello again-
First off, thank you for prompt reply. After poring over some of the postings, I'm gaining an understanding of when ODAC and the Entity Designer marriage came together and your answer solidified it.
My situation is I've developed an ODATA service with VS2010, Oracle 11g and ODTwithODAC112030 and everything works fine. I then deploy the service to the company's Windows 2003 server using Oracle 10g. I've also went ahead an installed the ODTwithODAC112030 on the server and copied the tnsnames.ora file into the oracle client's directory associated with the ODAC installation. When I query the Oracle database's metadata in IE, e.g. http://localhost:8050/DataMgmt/$metadata, a listing is displayed as expected; however, when I query a particlar database table listed in the metadata, an error is returned that the request could not be processed. Any ideas?
Thank you.

• 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' provider is not registered - ODAC 11.1.0.6.10 Beta2

Hello,
I have installed the ODAC 11.1.0.6.10 Beta2 and when working with ASPX pages that use OraOleDB, it raises the following error:
Additional information: The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Do I have to do something else to set the OraOleDB registered? during the installation I selected to install all the components of the Odac (except the MTS service). This app was working fine whith a previos previous intallation of the ODAC 10.2.02.20. (to try the new version, I uninstalled the previous version)
Thanks.

Hello Buddie, how you doing?
I just solved my problem.
Verifying which DLL were missing through OraOleDB.dll, using the tool "Dependency Walker", I downloaded and put them into the respective directories. I'm going to show you.
Must be aware you needn't overwrite any DLL.
In my scenario, having Oracle Client 8.1.7.0, the missing dll are following below:
%ORACLE_HOME%\bin :
- OraOLEDButl.dll
- OraOLEDBrst.dll
- OraOLEDBgmr.dll
- OraOLEDBpus.dll
- OraOLEDBus.dll
%WINDIR%\system32\ :
- DWMAPI.dll
- WINHTTP.dll
- GDIPLUS.dll
Just make sure the OraOleDB.dll registering is complain to the tree DLL dependencies.
I hope it can help you.

• Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC - Oracle data provider

system - xp pro
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC112021.
I can't seem to get the ODAC to work correctly with the Web Developer Express. When putting in a gridview I only see the standard adapters. The one from Oracle does not appear. I have spent days trying to figure out why but no luck. No one else seems to have this problem. I do not see any errors when I installed the ODAC. I've followed a few tutorials.
http://weblogs.asp.net/nannettethacker/archive/2010/09/17/installing-oracle-data-access-components-odac.aspx
and
http://www.smart-soft-nz.com/oracle-and-asp-dot-net.html
I tried using the Windows adapters but they just don't seem to work. I can get results in the query builder but when I go to the next step in the wizard I get the constraints error. I've done all the research on that with no luck so I wanted to use the ODAC. This killing me! This really shouldn't be that hard. I've added the dll to the references but again it's just not an option. If anyone could give me a little direction that would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
John

Dear Friends,
Installing SP1 and updates to it solved the first issue. So the database now seems to be of type 2008 R2.
Deleting some files solved the second issue.
However, another issue remains.
My most important projects were created with a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded from Microsoft and installed on July 3, 2012. This version of VWDX has now been lost, because my hard drive recently ceased to function and had to be replaced.
On the new hard drive I have a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded yesterday (May 28, 2014). As indicated above, I also installed SP1 and related updates.
When I load a project that was created in the version of VWDX 2010 that was installed almost two years ago and try to open the database connection, I get, in essence, the following error message:
"The database C:\Users\...\Database.mdf cannot be opened, because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported."
So it seems that the original database version was 661, whereas the version downloaded yesterday is 655. It seems very strange that a version downloaded now should be earlier than a version downloaded two years ago. Does anyone have an explanation or a solution?
Thank you all for your trouble, and best regards.
Eric (orexin)
P.S. The site from which I obtained VWDX yesterday was:
www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-web-developer-express and the executive was called VWD2010SP1AzurePack.exe.
