Installing OS 10.4.7 on a new hard drive

I am trying to install 10.4.7 on a new hard drive from disc one and it keeps getting stuck. I'm now sure if its the cd or not. What else can I do? Can I use a different computer to do the install, if so how?

It's an imac5, 2 mid 2006 It gets stuck in the "preparing to install" mode. I hooked up the new hard drive to my macbook pro via SATA cable and tried installing from there but the install stopped at do not permission for, i cant remember the file name...something load. i have yet to try to recover anything from the old hard drive, can i do that? According to about this Mac it says my disc utility is 10.5.8

  • Can I install CS6 a 3rd time on a new hard drive?

    Hello,
I was wondering if there was anyway to install CS6 on a new hard drive. I first downloaded it on my Desktop away at home (I study 3,000 miles away) and then on my MacBook Pro. My MacBook fell and it now runs impossibly slow and is likely on it's way out for good. I managed to write down my serial number for Photoshop, I'm not sure if it's what I need for InDesign and Illustrator. I'm trying to have my damage hard drive transferred to an external drive. With any luck I can hopefully get to succeed with all my licensed software.
I remember there being listings of my personal license key or serial number here on Adobe.com. Is there anyway to access them here on Adobe.com, and will I need my serial number, license number or activation number? Also, can I get the rest of the suite back even though I only have Photoshop's serial number?
    Thanks!

If you cannot deactivate it on your broken computer, you will need to Contact Customer Care to reset your activation count.
If your Adobe products are part of a suite, then they should all activate with the same serial number.

  • Re: How to install Windows from recovery media on a new hard drive?

Immediately after a Windows update, my computer would not restart. It said disk error.
I could not start it from the recovery media and F8 would not work. I bought and installed a new hard drive. Now when I put in the recovery media to install Windows on the new hard drive, it gives an error message.
What can this be? Should I be able to install Windows from the recovery media?
It is Windows 7 and the laptop is Satellite A500, 64 bit.

    Hello
Generally speaking you can install recovery image on every compatible HDD so thee should not be any problem about it.
Please tell us what happen when you start recovery installation. Which error message is shown?
Is new HDD recognized in BIOS. Before you start recovery installation set BIOS to default settings.

  • Can't boot from Install Disc while trying to isntall a new hard drive...

So last week my macbook 4 froze. I powered it down and when restarting, got the grey screen and apple logo and spinning wheel underneath. After about 3 minutes the machine would just shut off.
I ran the AHT and got this error: 4hdd/11/40000004: SATA(0,0)
Searched around for a bit and the internet's consensus was that my hard drive has failed. I bought a new one today and can't seem to get up and running again.
With the new drive in and the Install Disc in, regular start up get's me the blinking folder.
Starting while pressing C, while pressing D, while doing any other combination just gets me the grey blinking folder with question mark.
When I start with OPTION key, I can see the boot from CD option but after selecting, I just get a plain grey screen. Not really sure where to go from here? Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks

Perhaps the setting on the replacement hard disk drive is not correct
for the computer configuration you are using it in. There are such items
as jumper-pin settings: Master, Slave, auto-detect; and so on.
If the hard disk drive and the optical drive have a similar setting, neither
one could be in a position to do much.
Since I am unfamiliar with the correct settings for your computer, perhaps
someone who has more information and/or experience will reply to this.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do you install os on an imac with a new hard drive

The hard drive failed on my iMac. I installed a new harddrive - how do I install the OS on the iMac. I never received boot disks.

I assume  you  bought the machine new and it's a 2012 or later machine. If so then you can use Internet Recovery. If you bought the machine with Snow Leopard or below you received install discs however you probably misplaced them. If that is the case (machine originally shipped with SL or earlier) then call AppleCare and for a nominal fee  your discs can be replaced. If you need to use Internet Recovery then click Internet Recovery for instructions.

  • I am trying to install 10.4 fresh onto a brand new hard drive, it is in my old macbook. When I start up the computer I hold down "C" just like all the guides tell me to and I get a flashing folder. The disc is spinning but nothing happens.

I have also held doen the "control" key and nothing happens. The reason I am replacing the hard drive is because the previous hard drive gave me the same flashing folder and wouldn't open up to disc utility when I put in the tiger install disc. I am more of a windows guy and don't know much about mac's.

I have done both. When I hold down the "C" key it pauses for a few seconds while the cd spins and then the flashing folder icon appears.
Could be you have the wrong cd/dvd.  The mac will only boot a supported cd/dvd for your machine. The flashing question mark indicdates your machine could not find a valid os.
When I hold down the "option" key for the startup manager the cursor comes up and moves but the actually manager doesn't come up no matter how long I leave the laptop on.
Not sure.  Could be your machine does not support the startup manager. You would think the machine would ignore the key.
Where did you get the dvd?  What is the number on the DVD?
What machine do you have anyway?

There is no opportunity to download it, Richo. Your best bet is to have an acquaintance in the USA, Latin America, or Canada order the recovery discs and ship them to you.

  • Installing snow leopard on new hard drive - disc not seen or found

I can't provide too many details right now as my hard drive is out, and I'm trying to reinstall an operating system.
Problem:  Installed a new hard drive purchased from reputable repair store. Last installation disc I have is OS X Snow Leopard. When I get to the point to choose where to install it, it is not seeing the new hard drive.  I've double checked that the wires/bar connecting the actual hard drive are snug. Could there be another problem? Something to do with Lion? I've read several forums, but to no avail....
Computer:  Macbook Pro unibody. Probably mid 2009.
OS X: The last one before Maverick... 10.8.5
The reason I am putting in a new hard drive is that my computer was having trouble starting up or unexpectedly crashing, although I could do a Safe start or Diagnostic (d).  So, on the old hard drive, I did PRAM reset, and Disk Utility, but could not run the Apple Hardware Test, so I took it in.  There is a little issue with battery not being full, but they did not think that was causing the problem, and that it was probably a hard drive issue.  With the new harddrive... they suggested trying to download an OS from linking to another computer by firewire.... The other computer, (Macbook 2 GHx intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 10067 MHZ DDR3, OS 10.8.5) does not have a firewire, but does have thunderport, so I tried doing a Target start to reboot...  but Macbook Pro did not read the 2nd computer (Macbook). Then I found my old Snow Leopard disk and here I am...

If the repair store installed the drive, I'd take it back and let them make it work. Take your Snow Leopard DVD also.

If Eagle's instructions don't help, reset the machine and try again.
How-To: Performing a power cycle on a Toshiba laptop
The instructions attached should have come with your flash drive.
According to the spec above, once you've restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents you'll have Windows 8. Follow these instructions to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

  • BSOD experience with CLEAN INSTALL on new hard drive...next step?

Much has been written about the BSOD experiences of those upgrading to Leopard and the conflict with third party software enhancements already on their Tiger system. And apparently those fixes are working for some. I may be in the minority, but I own a Mac Pro and have a boot drive for Tiger and a second boot drive, brand new and zeroed out, on which I installed Leopard.
When I go to start Leopard, I get either the BSOD or it will go one step further, bring me to the Leopard desktop, then hang...with a movable mouse but no functionality. In my case, since I am doing a fresh install with no Tiger software on the new hard drive, what could be causing the conflict? Has anyone else out there experienced my specific problem? And have their been any suggestions posted on a fix for this situation.
Obviously the CLEAN INSTALL experience of Leopard is not immune from the installation BSOD problems of the TIGER UPGRADERS.
I would love to hear from others experiencing these BSOD issues with their CLEAN INSTALLS and any possible workarounds.
    Many thanks,
    John

I think the issue is installing 10.5 on a different drive than the boot drive. I would recommend swapping the drives, making the 10.5 the physical boot drive and Tiger the secondary.
I have done two clean installs on two different machines with no issue. A 3rd machine was upgraded with no issues as well.
Asking other users for sob stories helps no one. Asking for resolution however, is key.

  • New Hard Drive Errors for Logic Studio????

I have just replaced my system drive and used Carbon Copy cloner to clone to the new drive from my back up.  For some reason when I attempt to open certain Locig songs, I get an error message that says "Registry error, please ensure this product has been installed properly"  I have reinstalled to the new hard drive and still certain songs will cause this message?????  It's weird how only certain song projects cause this..???   Please HELP!!   I have trashed preferrences, and repaired permissions, and am desperate to figure this out.???   HELPPPPP!!!!!

To be honest, your messages are a little bit confusing…
First of all its not clear to me if you created the Recovery Disk in the past.
Please check this HowTo document “How to use the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator”
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD16036F0000R01.htm
If recovery disk creation would not work, here is a page where you could order the essential disks: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu
The recovery disk will help you to recover the notebook back to factory settings even using new HDD.
