Installing OS X applications without installation CDs

Hello,
I was wondering if it were possible to reinstall OS X applications (Address Book, iCal) if I don't have my installation CDs, and if so how I could go about doing this?
Thanks!

What version of these programs are you talking about? What version of OS X are you using?
Not sure the built in Apps are available other then nwith the OS install. Some Apps were on the Applications Install DVD with older versions but then some are included in the OS itself. I'm pretty sure Address Book and iCal are included in the OS, at least in Lion I think they are.

  • Deliver the JRE with own desktop application - without installation

    Hi,
the Java license allows to distribute Java along with a software application, if Java is needed to run this application. I do not want my users to worry about operating systems, java versions and installations. So my idea was to include the JRE in a subfolder of my application and to use a native launcher to start the jar containing the main program, using the JRE in the subfolder.
It seems to work - and I'm quite sure that previous versions of the eclipse IDE did this exactly this way. Unfortunately, I'm not able to find any download containing the JRE without an installer. And first installing and then copying the extracted files seems to be a dirty workaround. Also it's not really clear if this would be conform to the java license.
So my question would be if there's any clean approach for this.

Thanks for the pointer - although it's weird that there's no zip or something similar only containing the files (without an installer). That used to exist, but it was dropped in favor of only an installer (for Windows) long before the Oracle takeover. I guess the main reason was that when you provide the runtime as a zip file, that does not install any "default Java" (IE. a java.exe / javaw.exe in the windows system folder). Having a default java, which means being able to run java stuff without ever having to modify any PATH variable yourself like was already the case on Linux for ages, was kind of a big deal for Sun back in the day.

  • HT4561 Install OS 6.8 without installation disk

I need to wipe my MAC Pro clean and do a fresh OS install before I put it up for sale. I don't have any OS installation disks. The current OS on the system is 10.6.8. How can I do this?
    Thanks guys!

You cannot do this without having the Mac OS X installer from which to boot. Unless you made a copy of the installation disks to another drive, you will need the installation disks. You really should provide them with the sale in any case. If your Mac shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.x, you can call Apple support and ask to purchase a new set of the install disks. If your Mac came with an earlier version of Mac OS X, you can order a retail copy of 10.6 from the Apple Store.

  • Run .air application without installation?

Is it possible to have a .air file or something similar which
runs in the AIR runtime but does not need to be installed?
Something like an executable or maybe like Java .jar file.

    Hi Rob,
There's one primary reason, and that is for client testing
cycles. I've not done many AIR projects but I've immediately found
clients hesitant to "install" anything that is not final. Of course
I tell them that AIR has a very lightweight installation, can be
easily updated as I make new versions, etc, but... you know
clients. Then I might make a mistake, like change the app id and
they end up with two versions installed and have a conniption. So
it would be nice to give a client a single file they can just run
and see how they like it, especially for early versions of a
project where we are mainly testing UI experience, not
    functionality.
Other than that, it's more of a nice-have for some situations
with little utility apps than anything critical. There may be
installation permission reasons or running from external device or
other reasons for some people, but that does not really apply to me
    at this time.

  • How do I re-install my two Adobe products without having the original software installation CDs?

I purchase Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Adobe Premiere Elements 10 in 2011 or 2012 (I can't remember the exact date).  I installed both products on my home desktop PC, then later on my work laptop.  The motherboard on my home PC crashed recently and since has been replaced.  However, I had to start from scratch and reload everything (Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010, all of my files and documents, other programs, etc).  And now I am unable to locate my original installaiton software (Adobe installation CDs) to reinstall both products.  I apparently only registered one (Adobe Photoshop Elements 10) of my two products, with my Adobe account.   However, I can't remember even using the Adobe Premier Elements 10 software when I had it on my home PC, prior to it crashing.  So for right now, I only need Photoshop Elements 10, which I use daily.
Is there a way I can download them directly from the Adobe website online, or from a file attached to an email from Adobe?
Also, is there a way to get my serial number from software (Adobe Premiere Elements 10) still loaded onto my work PC, so I can register the product with Adobe under my Adobe account?

if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here: http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-10-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem downloading, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com

  • Access Oracle 9i from a Client Application without Oracle Client Install.

Is it possible to access an Oracle Database from a Client Application without having an oracle Client Installation ?
I want to write a program that connect to an Oracle Server. I use Borland C++. But my Programs only works with having the Client Oracle Software installed on the Client. Is there any way to realise this ?

The way that 99% of the people that want to do this manage is to write Java code that connects to the database via JDBC, using Oracle's thin JDBC driver.
If you absolutely have to use C++, you can purchase thin ODBC drivers from third parties (DataDirect for example) that will connect to the database without the Oracle client. I'm not aware of any thin, free ODBC drivers.

  • Running java application without installing JRE

We try to run Java application without installing JRE, by copying java.exe (and other JRE files) together with our jar file. This does not work.
    Can it be solved?

Can you elaborate on the steps to create a java
    application without installing JRE.
    Regards,
    padmaPadma,
The solution is to deploy my JAR together with JRE files, without running standard JRE installation. This makes possible to simply ensure that my JAR will run with THIS SPECIFIC JRE. This is important from QA point of view. Also, installation of my application does not change configuration of JVMs on the computer.
    The solved problem:
Standard JRE installation may change the default JRE for many Java applets and application on computer. Changing version JRE may lead to some programs misbehaviour (JRE backward compatibility does not always work and different Java versions not always live together well). Thus, some IT departments are very nervous about JRE version change.
Hope, this explains my problem and the solution.

  • My imac intel won't install the installation cds correctly.

I have the white imac intel computer and I tried to reinstall the installation cds that came with the mac because my computer for whatever reason started going slower and slower. The thing is when I tried to reinstall the cds, the first cd did not install correctly. For some reason the first cd counted down the time from 64 hours, it took two days and when it was finished I got a black screen and a lot of error messages. Something about the DNS server, the airport driver isn't installed, and something about the local?. Everytime I try to install the first cd it want start up and it tells me to install the second cd and when I try to install the second cd it won't install. The blue line only goes so far and then it just hangs there and I get more error messages. Is there a way to reinstall the first cd to correct the problems without the computer telling me to take the first cd out and insert the second cd? Or is there something I can do to fix my imac so it will work again?

Hi Evie, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Power down the iMac with #1 Install disk in the drive.
Bott up while holding the d key down at boot-up and run the extended Apple HW Test first.
If we still can't boot from the Install disk, Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
    Where are we now?
We have some serious corruption on the HD, so we're going to try to get it to boot off the #1 disk to fox that.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Safe Boot... holding Shift key down at bootup.

  • Deploy simple Labview applications without installing the Labview runtime?

    [Labview 8.21 - Windows XP]
Hello and a happy new year to all !
I have coded very simple Labview applications that basically read text files (exported from Ms Excel), make some string operations, array sorting and at the end write another text file that is then imported in Ms Access. Now I would like other people from the School parents association to use this application on their own PC but ideally without having to install the Labview run-time;  for various reasons one of them being that they are not administrator of their PC, another reason being that I feel bad to ask them to install 100Mb of programs on their PC to execute my <1Mb applications. All that I can assume is that they have Excel and Access installed on their PC.
I have read some postings on the Forum and in the Knowledge base from which I understand that the only way to use my application without the Labview runtime is to build a shared library that maybe I could then link via a VBA code from inside Excel or Access. But I cannot find any usable example on how to do that practically. And maybe it is not possible.
What is the easiest way to run such very simple Labview compiled applications on a PC that does not have Labview installed? Is Labview not at all built for such use?
Thanks a lot for your help and ideas.
    Christophe

You will need to have the runtime installed. There is a lot of other languages that also have the need for there own runtime, but they are commonly installed with the OS, so you don't realize it. Just building a dll won't solve this.
There might be a hack possible, though. People have managed to strip down the required installation and been able to deploy the required parts of the runtime only. If you want to go this way, search on LAVA. But I'm not sure if it works with LV 8.20, and you will need to invest some time to figure out the minimum requirements. But be aware that it is a hack, so it's on your own risk.

The only way to get 10.5 is to purchase it on CD. Such as http://www.amazon.com/Mac-OS-Leopard-10-5-10-51/dp/B0012RAVRC where is being sold for $179.99.
If your optical drive is broken, you will either need to replace it or get an external. There is no other way.
Why do wish to upgrade? As you can see it is going to be expensive, probably more the Mac is worth.
