Installing OSX.4 on a Mac with OSX.5

Hello
I want to retrograde the OS on one of my laptops from OSX.5 to OSX.4 so that I can run some older software which came to the end of the line. Normally we upgrade OSX, how do I retrograde OSX?
thanks

Please give us the specs of your laptop as that makes it easier to make suggestions appropriate to your needs.
In downgrading to Tiger, what install disks will you be using? Is your install disk the one that came with the computer? Or, if your laptop is a PPC Mac, is it Retail?
If you have the appropriate installer, I suggest
• Backup your current volume in case you run into issues.
• Completely reformat and erase your internal HDD
• Boot from the install disk and install and update Tiger (post back for step by step directions if needed).
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

No there is not enough information in this snipped of your installation log.  Please see Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html for information on how to review the installation log in it's entirety.

  • How can I install ML in a second mac with out pay

i have two macs ind I want to install ML in the second mac how can i do i have to pay again

Install Snow Leopard or Lion on the other computer. From that computer sign into the App Store with the same Apple ID used to purchase Mountain Lion. Click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. Locate the Mountain Lion entry which should now have an active Install/Download button on the right.
    Also, read:
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process.

  • Re-installing LR license on new mac with no optical drive

originally purchased LR2 with CD copy, have subsequently upgraded online to LR3 and LR4 using PC.
have now purchsed new mac with no optical drive, so how do I get LR4 reinstalled?
any upgrade licenses require you to have the original full license first installed.

any upgrade licenses require you to have the original full license first installed.
Used to be the case but no longer. Adobe's process is now much simpler.
All software versions (whether full or upgrades) include the full program code. The serial number you enter tells the installer if it's an upgrade or a full version.
Download the Lightroom 4.4.1 trial from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5599
Install it then enter your LR 4 serial number. The installer will then ask for an earlier version serial. Enter your LR3 serial and the install will complete.

  • How do I Install Mountain Lion on a Mac with 2 Drives

    Good day ALL,
I am upgrading my Mac mini to add a second hard drive (solid state).  After the HD install is complete I plan to re-install Mountain Lion and transfer my Applications, Files, etc from my backup.  I am very comfortable with installing Mountian Lion on the solid state drive and making it the bootbale drive, my questions are:
    1.  It is a 120G soloid state hard drive, so I only plan to use it for the OSX system, Library and Applications.  Should I include other files?
    2.  I plan to use my 750G SATA drive for the Users.  How do I set up the User Folder archive on this drive?  Do I just move it?
    3.  Then how do I ensure the User Folder on my backup, gets retored on the right drive?
    Thanks

    3.  Then how do I ensure the User Folder on my backup, gets retored on the right drive?
    Thanks
    Regarding 1:
$ cd /Users. sudo ditto myname /Volumes/TimeMachine/myname  copies everything in $HOME to non-TM backup.
Ensured latest SSD firmware up to date.
Clean install of ML to SSD from 8GB USB stick created by Lion Diskmaker.
$ cd /Users. sudo ditto /Volumes/TimeMachine/myname myname (see part 2 for /Users on another drive)
Added latest Xcode and command-line tools. Added VirtualBox 4.1.20. Put the 65GB VirtualBoxVMs folder on the second drive. Edited the ~/Library/Virtualbox/VirtualBox.xml file for the new mount points. Beware that many SSD (including Vertex) warn not to exceed 50% drive capacity or they will invoke slower drive controller algorithm. After some clean-up and re-arrangement, I have 98GB free on this SSD. It sings.
Files that are heavily accessed/shared by users would be consideration for the SSD
    Regarding 2:
If you have sufficient external storage, back-up your pre-ML /Users either with ditto as I did, or with TM, somewhere other than the 750GB drive.
Use DiskUtility and repartition the 750 as one (or more) GUID HFS+Journaled partitions depending on planned usage.
Reverse the back-up to put your user(s) on the 750GB drive
In System Preferences > Users & Groups, unlock, then right mouse button click on individual user names. Advanced options ... will appear. For Home directory, Choose ... the particular mount point for individual user accounts now on the 750GB drive. Done.
    Regarding 3:
Because you have moved individual user accounts from the internal drive where your last TM backup occurred before ML installation, TimeMachine will not understand (as far as I know), the new /Volumes/750GB/User/you home directory location that you just changed in #2. Another reason I used ditto(1).
If you do not want Spotlight to index that 750GB drive, you need to inform Spotlight Preferences > Privacy to exclude the drive.
    Hope this helps.
PS: Darn advanced editor eating bullet formatting!!

  • Want to install Windows 7 to my Mac with Boot Camp, but my laptop's monitor is broken. How could I start the Windows installation through an HDMI video source?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to start a bootcamp installation of Windows 7 though an external monitor using HDMI. Is there anyway to have the installation screen show up on the external monitor? I get stuck at the beginning of the installation due to not being able to use my laptop's primary screen.
    Thanks for the help!

Unless you have a 2010 Mini Server model, your Mini has a built-in Optical drive (Mac mini (Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications).
Can you read the Windows Installer media when booted on OSX? Your DVD media may be corrupt.
If your Optical Drive is functional AND the Windows DVD is readable in OSX Finder, then your installer should work. You will need a USB2  for BC drivers as well.

  • Installing Lion and formatting my Mac (with Snow Leopard)

    Hey everybody!
I have a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard.
I want to install Lion from the App Store and format my Mac. How should I do it?
    Thanks!

    Aha!
The proper way to "clean" a computer before selling it is to zero the hard drive. This will make all your data irretrievable.
Steps for zeroing the drive Disk Utility:
    1. Insert your Mac OS X CD-ROM disc or Restore DVD disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key until you see the spinning gear.
    2. Once started up from CD or DVD, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3. Choose the entire disk (top icon).
    4. Choose erase tab.
    5. Click on Options
    6. Choose "write zeros".
    7. Erase
This will take a bit of time because the computer is physically writing zeros to each block.
You should then re-install the original OS from the system disks and deliver the Mac to the new owner with the system disks that shipped with it.
If you want it to boot as new at startup, do the installation of OS X and follow the onscreen prompts until it asks you to enter a username and password to create your first account. Quit the installer and shut down the system. The next time the system is powered on it will display the same welcome message and be ready to setup OS X.
Or you can delete the AppleSetupDone file.
    rm -rf /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

  • How to install Snow Leopard on a Mac with busted dvd drive

My problem is that my Mac Mini doesn't read all CDs or DVDs - including the new Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard that I just bought. From the support articles, I figured that I could install remotely, as you do if you have a MacBook Air. I couldn't get it to work, until I read this article:
    http://jasonevangelho.com/2008/11/02/how-to-really-enable-remote-disc-dvd-drive- sharing-non-air-macbook/
All it took was two commands in Terminal.
I hope this will be helpful for others too.

Snow Leopard (SL) upgrade in my mac mini failed part way through and when I tried to re-do the upgrade, it would give me a blue screen (via DVI to my HD TV).
So, following the advice I found elsewhere, I did the following:
Booted up my 24" iMac, inserted SL disk into iMac.
Turned off mini, connected mini to iMac w/firewire cable.
Started mini and pressed and held the T key on the mini keyboard until it mounted on my iMac (seen in Finder) as a hard drive.
Started SL installation icon (iMac) and indicated that I wanted to install on the mini hard drive.
It went through a number of steps, then asked AGAIN which drive I wanted to install SL.
Then took quite a long time (upwards of 1.5 hours) to install, and the estimated time left during the install would sometimes appear frozen at 40 minutes, but the blue bar kept extending indicating it was making progress.
I was able to then boot SL on my iMac off the mini hard drive and configure everything (making sure that back to my Mac/mobile me was up and running and the proper in home network was correct).
Then "shut down" the iMac (which was still running off the mini hard drive), then powered down the mini.
Moved the mini out to it's normal place and reconnected to the HD TV and started it up and everything was perfect.
BTW, as many people know, if you're having video out difficulties with your mac mini, it's nice to be able to go "back to my mac" via another iMac to adjust the configuration. It's saved me a couple of times.

  • How to install Photoshop CS6 Extended for Mac with no DVD drive?

I have bought the Photoshop CS6 Extended for Students for my new Mac and realized that I don't have a DVD drive to install it on. Is there a way that I can install the program without the cd? I have looked into the "free trial then activate" route and Adobe no longer offers a free trial for Photoshop CS6 Extended.

  • Can I install apps on my multiple macs with a promotional code?

I have Lion on my iMac; I redeemed it with a promotional code (i.e. free) and I cannot put it on my macbook pro.  Is this because it was "free"?

"can i install itunes on my new computer"
Yes you can. You'll get the latest versions of all the software at these links:
    iTunes Download
    Quicktime Download
    iPod Updater
"what will happen with all my tunes, will they copy from my ipod to itunes or what???? "
No they won't. You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically then change the setting to manual on your old PC before you connect it to the new one. Once it is in manual mode you use your iPod and connect it to an empty iTunes without the risk of accidentally erasing it:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of the retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

    Sorry for my bad English...

That's up to you. I personally think Windows 7 is vastly superior to 8, but if you really want it, you'll have to wait. Keep in mind, it took Apple 3 months to release compatible drivers for Windows 7.

It could either be an iMac with a Power PC or an Intel processor. To be safe, try to get a copy of Mac OS X Leopard (10.5), as it will work on either.
