Installing patch set 10.2.0.5 from 10.2.0.4

Hi,
My current environment is :-
OS/ = Windows 2008 -x64bits
DB=oracle 10g (10.2.0.4)
SAP=Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1
I need to upgrade the oracle patch set from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5.
The steps that I will take:-
1) Shutdown Solman, Shutdown oracle DB, shutdown listener.
2) Run the patchset installer using OUI.
This should bring me to 10.2.0.5? Is there anything I should watch out ?
Thanks.

Hi,
Every Oracle Patchset contains its own README file. Please refer it carefully.
The README File contains all the pre-inplementation actions and Post-Implementation actions, which are required to perform along with the New Oracle PatchSet Application.
You must have to process all the Pre-Implementation actions , then apply the latest available Oracle Patchset using RUNINSTALLER (OUI) and then perform All the required Post-Implementation actions which are mentioned in that README file.
After applying Oracle Patchset, you must apply the latest available SAP Bundle Patches (collection of OPatches) over Oracle Patchset (e.g. on Oracle patchset 10.2.0.5).
During the whole process the ORACE_HOME should have sufficient space.

  • Installing patch set 9.0.4.2

    I'm trying to install the patch set 9.0.4.2 over our single-box installation of 9.0.4.1. I launch the installer with:
    /mnt/cdrom/runInstaller
    But I get this error:
    There are no patches that need to be applied from the patchset Oracle Collaboration Suite patch set 9.0.4.2.
    Do I have to do something special when it's a single-box installation ? I didn't saw any special instructions in the documentation.
    Thanks.

  • Installing Patch Set 16

    I've completed the installation of Oracle Forms developer and forms server 6i Patch Set 16, on top of an older version of forms developer . I was hoping that I could verify that the patch was correctly applied.
    Is it safe to assume that patch set 16 has been completely applied, if the installation completed successfully and the version within "ifrun60.exe" is 6.0.8.25? Is there anywhere else that I should check?
    I was confident that the patch set had been correctly applied, until I took a look at the release notes that lived in ....
    start --> all programs --> Oracle forms 6i --> release note - PDF format
    these release notes read to the effect of patch set 15, not patch set 16.
    Thank you in advance for your help....

  • TimeOutException - unable to create instance - after installing patch set.

    Hi,
    We have Oracle 9iAS 9.0.2 (Release 2) running on Windows 2000 Server.
    We are running EJB's on the server, these include Entity and Session Beans.
    Last week on 13-March 2003 (Thrusday) we installed a PatchSet downloaded from "metalink.oracle.com".
    NAME: PatchSet 1 for Windows NT
    After installation we faced the following problem :
    1. Initial (first time) when an Entity Bean is called for a specific Primary Key, we are able to get the instance of the Bean.
    2. However for subsequent request to the same Bean, it is unable to create or find an instance for the Bean, throwing the following error :
    "TimeOutException" - "unable to create instance"
    3. Though Step 1 and Step 2 are repeated on restarting OC4J_HOME.
    We then uninstalled the Oracle 9iAS and reinstalled it without the PatchSet. On doing so, the above error did not occur.

    Badrul,
    Try setting max-instances=0 for your EJB in the orion-ejb-jar.xml.

    I'd like to go from 6867054 to 6810189 on Windows 32 bit machine. Can I just run the 6810189 setup.exe OR are there any intermediate patches to install.
    Opatch lsinventory is showing this:
    Interim patches (1) :
    Patch 6867054 : applied on Fri May 02 11:00:16 EDT 2008
    Created on 14 Apr 2008, 10 02 56 hrs
    Bugs fixed:
    Thanks.

    Hi.
    As I understand you want to upgrade to the patch set 3, in other words to 10.2.0.4.
    yes, you can use setup.exe for this. This patch set could be installed on any release starting from 10.2.0.1, regardless of the previous patch set, or interim patch's installed.
    I would recommend to read patch set installation instructions carefully, you can find all the information on read notes there.
    Make sure you backed up your current oracle home, oracle inventory and oracle database directories(i.e. datafiles).
    Patch sets and interim patches are cumulative, they themselves manages previously installed patch sets or interim patches. but patch bundles are specific for base patch sets.

  • FRM 40602 and Patch Set 9

    We have a long (and potentially very boring) history of not being able to install patch sets for Developer Forms on our systems because of various bugs.
    The last one to cause a problem was FRM 40602 Cannot insert or update data in a view which was first found in patch set 7. (Bug number was 1996710). This was still there in 8 and meant to be fixed in 9.
    Support are looking at the problem but initial indications are that the bug has not been fixed - still waiting for confirmation.
    My question is whether anyone else has sen this in PS9 - there has been a forum on Metalink stating this but I have not seen anything else.

    We're using XP and have successfully been running Forms and Reports Runtime 6.0.17.1 and 6.0.17.0 for the past 3 or 4 months. However, just yesterday we came across this error only 1 system out of 40+ machines that run an application that uses both Forms & Reports R/T. I have spent around 8 hours today attempting to repair the problem without success. Yet when I go to another machine with the identical install and build, I can run the app without any problems under the same user id as on the machine that does not work. Our exact error that pops up is:
    FRM-40602 Cannot insert into or update data in a view. field: LM_XREF.XREF_ENTITY_TYPE
    After reading the message I am making this statement to, I never new there was a bug. I did a test with version 6.0.11.x before applying the patch and got it to work, but there is another bug in there that is repaired in version 6.0.13.x and re-appears in ver 6.0.17.1, so I want to apply the patches, but I don't, if you know what I mean. I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this problem? If so, I could use the help and hopefully others can benefit from this as well.
    I have rebuilt the image and used various Oracle R/T, Net 8, ODBC, and SQL Net configurations but this one stumps me! $0+ machines working perfectly good and 1 does not, all the same build, with all the same Oracle middleware... I'm almost starting to think a wierd hardware problem.
    Cheers,

    All my production databases are on 10.2.0.3 so i am planing to upgrade from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3The way I used to do this .... If I have applied the 10.2.0.3 Patchset to a database earlier, I have the Patchset downloaded and still available somewhere on disk (on a database server, a file server, a desktop .....)
    So, if you've patched it , you've got it with you !
    There may be times when you may not be able to download the patch again (it is no longer available for download, your internet connection is flaky, oracle support's site is down ....). That is why having the base oracle software and the patch present is a good practice.
    I know OS administrator's do the same. They keep Linux installers ready onsite.

  • Error when installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.

    Hi to all.
    Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
    The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
    We are using Oracle9iAS.
    Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
    We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
    We managed to run
    -ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
    -ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    -update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    -commit;
    But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
    this..
    SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    1402 rows updated.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
    We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
    SQL> startup
    ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
    So, we tried to shutdown again..
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
    I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?
    Best Wishes,
    Rushdan Md Saad.

    Patchsets could be obtained (only) from http://metalink.oracle.com
    You need to have valid CSI for access.
    P.S: Sorry Werner, I didn't see you post.

  • Can i install 10.2.0.4 patch set 14 on my client when SERVER is at 10.2.0.4

    ======================================================
    Can i install 10.2.0.4 patch set 14 on my client when SERVER is at 10.2.0.4 patchset 5?
    ======================================================
    We have a customer with DB on windows-2003 64 bit with following homes.
    At Server version:-
    DB version is 10.2.0.4 patchset 5,
    client1 is at 10.2.0.1.(patchset i am not sure)
    Client2 is at 10.2.0.4 patchset 5.
    Customer running some sqls which are taking more time from CLIENT2(10.2.0.4 patchset5) than CLIENT1(10.2.0.1). offcourse both CLIENTS connecting
    same DB. we identified a bug(6350579). This bug was resolved in 10.2.0.4 patch 14(7677781).
    Now my question is Can i apply this patch only at client side with out applying at DB level?
    I mean i will create one more new client called CLINET3 (with 10.2.0.4 and i will install 10.2.0.4 patchset14) and then run the SQLs from new client CLIENT3. is this supported method or not?
    Reason being customer does not want to install 10.2.0.4 patchset14 at DB since Customer is happy with DB performance.
    We are getting problem only when we connect to DB from cleint 10.2.0.4 patchset5. if we connect to DB from Client 10.2.0.1, SQL performance is very good.
    Please advise me on this.
    Regards
    Nagendra.

    You can upgrade your client with the latest patchset/bug fix (if you have tested it on some other machine and found that your issue has been resolved) but be prepared to handle any unusual errors that might arise due to this combination.
    Personally, I never prefer having a client running at a higher version than the server but there are some situations where we need to and we need to make sure that, even though Oracle must have tested certain scenarios, we do not run into errors. So test, test and test before changing anything in production.

  • Runinstaller for 10.2.0.4 patch set while upgrading from 10.2.0.1 fails

    All
    I have pretty peculiar situation. I have installed (silent) oracle database server EE 10.2.0.1 on my RHEL 5 machine. Before configuring the database, I wanted to patch it to 10.2.0.4. I am trying to patch the oracle home in silent mode it self as x manager/vnc etc tools are not made available. I issue the below command
    ./opt/orcl10g/Disk1/runInstaller -silent -invPtrLoc /opt/orcl10g/oraInventory/oraInst.loc -responseFile /opt/orcl10g/Disk1/response/10204_install.rsp
    the installation proceeds some time, before pausing for ever. with out showing the completion screen. Neither any error message is given nor the prompt for executing root.sh. I am not able to find out whats happening if ever any action is in progress. I wait hours but no progress. However, when I query with OPATCH utility, I come across a scenarion where OPATCH is 10.2.0.4 but Oracle 10g home is STILL AT 10.2.0.1.
    I look forward for your advice/recommendation. I am pasting the OPATCH output below. Further down, I am pasting the values I have edited in the response file of the patch set. nothing else is done.

    We fixed it. The issue was the initial 10.2.0.1 S/W installation. The software we recieved and installed was not giving many of the binaries under $ORACLE_HOME/bin as a 0 byte files... When I tried to redo, I realized it. So had a fresh copy of the S/W from OTN download and then it went smothly.
    Thanks for the response and your time. :-)
