Installing patches on application tier before moving to linux

Hello ,
I would like to know , if there are recommended patches , i should install on the application tier (HPUX) before moving the application(115102) to linux.

All the patches are outlined in (Migrating to Linux with Oracle Applications Release 11i [ID 238276.1]), so make sure you follow all the steps in this docs before migrating the application tier node.
Also, make sure you have all pre-req packages installed as per these docs.

So can we give the already exixting database name in EBS 12.1.1You cannot use an existing database for EBS purpose - you have to install the database that comes with the R12.1.1 software. If the JDE schema is required, then export it from the current database you have, delete the database, install the 12.1.1 database, then create the schema in this new database and perform an import.

Error Installing Apps 11.5.10.2 on Application Tier

I am installing 11.5.10.2 on centos 4.4 (32 bit). Database Tier got installed sucessfully but received error on Application Tier at step 4 of 5 on completion of 80% . Below is the error message received from install log while installation on Application Tier .

32-bit shell emulation for ALL patching of middle tier?

In the Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure and Middle Tier April2009 Cirtical Update Patch 8298235, I found the following statement:
On Linux x86-64 computers, always use 32-bit shell emulation. Use the following command before running the installer and any other Oracle Application Server commands or scripts:
linux32 bash
I have seen the requirement for 32-bit emulation in individual steps in a patching or upgrade before, but this is the first time that I have found such an all-encompusing statement. I have never run into a problem that I know of running opatch in 64-bit mode.
What is the real meaning of the above statement and, if it really means ALWAYS, what possible problems might occur if 32-bit mode has not been used in all patching.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm still a little confused. When installing r12 rup6 and upgrading to 11g there was lots of patching. Whenever the specific doumentation stated that linux32 was required, it was used. I only found this when actually running the Xwindows universal installer, and then even when installing 11g software. However, all other patching (lots) of the application tier using opatch was done without using linux32. We did download and install the latest 64-bit version of opatch. None of the patches produced any errors. Is this the correct thing to be doing? If not, what should be done to correct the problem? How might any problem manefest itself.
The statements in 564174.1 and in Patch 8298235 say "all commands and scripts". What does this really include? starting up services? autoconfig? etc. or is the only real worry when something is being compiled?
Also, your answer implies that if you have the 64-bit version of opatch you don't need to worry about linux32.

Error Installing patch 6272725 on Windows 2003 server

Segmentation Fault when connecting to SQL*Plus from Applications tier

Hi Everyone -
I am currently in the process of upgrading a client from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1 (eventually 12.1.3) on a OEL x86-64 server. I have laid down the software stack and followed all of the requirements as per the Installation manuals and 761566.1. I also have an open SR right now on this issue - but I wanted to see if any of you have ever run into the issue that I am encountering.
When I try to run adadmin/adpatch - I get to the prompt of providing the system user password and the utility simply exits. No errors in adpatch.log or adadmin.log (both are 0 bytes in size).
When I try to connect using SQL*Plus from the applications tier using either:
sqlplus apps/****@SID
sqlplus system/****@SID
I get a Segmentation Fault error. There are also no errors in my alert log file on the database tier. I found this error while attempting to apply the upgrade merge patch.
Has anyone ever seen s Segmentation Fault error? I have search MOS, found a couple of potential solutions - but nothing has solved the issue so far.

No, my database tier is 11.2.0.3 (the database version displayed above was the client version running on the Application Tier.
Who is the owner of the application tier files? If it is applmgr user, please make sure you login as that user and source the application env file before running sqlplus -- Please issue "echo $ORACLE_HOME" and "which sqlplus" and post the output here.
My owner of the application tier is oracle. I have sourced the environment using $APPL_TOP/APPSR12Dev1_******.env

Thinking of upgrading to SL,But i have some Question before moving to SL

I will be glad if anybody can help me with my questions before moving to Sl.first,i like to know,after upgrading or fresh install,do i need to reinstall another windows xp on the machine,cos i use VMware Fusion?
Secondly,What option is the best,Upgrade or Fresh install?
Can i make backup using an external usb2 drive? and what can i do so my old setting remain after installing SL.Setting like my Chat history,and will my applications use the same lience key?

What important it the history of chat i had on my pc.i work for a company as a mid man and this history help me to remember last diccussion with client..

In your place, I would move to SL if, and only if, I had an external drive with a bootable clone of my internal on it. I think that there is enough risk in going to SL that such conservatism is warranted. I would not use time machine alone for backup/restoring when moving to an OS upgrade or doing a point update. This app can be problematic and, consequently, its solo use is too risky for me in these cases. You will be able to extract your settings, files, and programs from your clone if you do an erase and install. You can erase and install or upgrade with any SL disk except the gray ones that come with specific machines. I still prefer to erase and install.
To erase and install (see upgrade option below), start up to your DVD and stop after selecting your language. Use the menus to start Disk Utility and erase your drive. Quit Disk Utility and proceed with your installation. At the end, you will be able to choose to reclaim your settings, files, and apps from the clone (plug in the external at the point of the last install restart).
If you do not like SL, then you can restore your internal using the clone. I would do all cloning and related restoration with SuperDuper, Carbon Copy Cloner, or some other up-to-date cloning app, including Disk Utility. Your clone also will serve as an independent backup for your data.
Upgrading is a very sound process on a Mac. Still, I also would insist on having a bootable clone on an external before upgrading. An upgrade is performed by installing over your existing installation from the desktop or having started from your SL DVD. All your programs, data, and settings will be present after an upgrade, but incompatible programs will be archived.

Problem with installing patch SP1b

Hello All,
I have a development server running on XP pro with live cycle 8.0.1. I 'm facing a problem while installing patch SP1b to that server. I have attached the log file.
My problem is
I copied a process' .lca file from a server running on windows server 2003 with patch installed and deployed on the development server. Now in my development XP box, workspace is opening but when i tried to open the process, before rendering the pdf form it is giving "An error occurred during the operation (endpoint id 401). (ALC-WKS-007-027)" error. I have even crosschecked the input xfaform variable also; every thing is perfect. The details are as below:

How to Install 9i real application clusters on a PC!

How to install and deploy Oracle Real Application Clusters on a single Linux
server with a minimal configuration (less than $1000 worth of harware):
First of all to install Oracle cluster database you DON'T HAVE to have a cluster, but a
single PC may do as well (of course thi kind of installation will not be of
much use for a production DB). A minimal server that I HAVE TESTED is: Celeron 750 MhZ,
512 Mb of RAM, 2 IDE HD, Linux Suse 7.2
This document contains the steps needed to deploy a working Oracle 9i Database with a
minimal comment. For a complete discussion refer to Oracle documentation, namely:
Oracle 9i administrator's reference part number A90347-02
Oracle 9i Linux release notes part number A90356-01
Oracle 9i Real Application Clusters Administration part numebr A89869-01
1) set up the partitions to user for Oracle software and the ones to use as raw devices
for the cluster DB. Soppose you want to you use an HD mounted as the 3rd IDE device
(/dev/hdc) for the cluster DB. Then you have to partition it with fdisk with a large
extended partition (say hdc1). Create a large number of logical partitions inside hdc1
(say hdc5 till hdc20) of about 300 Mb in size (all of the same size for simplicity).
2) Real application clusters wants to store the DB strutures into raw devices or a
cluster filesystem. Create the raw devices using the following command (as superuser):
raw /dev/raw1 /dev/hdc5
raw /dev/raw2 /dev/hdc6 ... etc till /dev/hdc20
you will need to repeat these steps after every boot
3) Set up the Oracle user (already done with the Suse distribution), environment variables
and mount point.
Install Oracle software enterprise edition
4) Complete the installation with a custom install of the real application cluster option.
This will add a directory called oracm under your oracle home, which contains the
cluster manager software
5) edit $ORACLE_HOME/oracm/admin/nmcfg.ora, it contains 3 lines for the set-up of the
cluster manager sofware:
DefinedNodes=localhost
CmDiskFiles=/dev/raw2
CmHostName=localhost
6) edit /var/opt/oracle/srvConfig.loc. It contains 1 line with the location of a raw device
used to sync the cluster nodes:
srvconfig_loc=/dev/raw1
7) start the cluster manager software (as superuser):
$ORACLE_HOME/oracm/bin/ocmstart.sh
8) as the oracle user start the global cache service:
gsd
9) you can now create a cluster db. to use the configuration assistant you need to set
an extra environment variable:
export THREADS_FLAG=native
10) start the configuration assistant: dbca
expect some errors in the script the dbca generates, best is to review them before
execution
11) after the db creation you'll be able to start two instances on the same DB,
which means you will have a cluster DB!
12) the environment variable ORACLE_SID will determine the instance to which you can
connect by means of a special syntax: SID.parameter=value
this is used for example for paramters like instance_number, thread, etc
also the parameter cluster_database must be set to true
All these problems are normaly handled by the dbca.

RedHat 7.1 with the some configuration I run a production 9.0.1
database: Compaq Proliant Hardware with a RA4100 storage.
The script created from the dbca seems fine, but the dbca give
me the
some error I get from:
srvconfig -init
[...]stop all daemons and oracle programs on both machines, then
start only $ORACLE_HOME/oracm/bin/ocmstart.sh,
then run the line
srvconfig -init
you can check it by running
srvconfig -version
it should output something like "9.0.0.0.0"
before running dbca, make sure ocmstart.sh and gsd are
running on both machines ("lsnodes -v" should putput sbshadow1
and dbshadow2).
BTW - I cant run clusca... Can somenome give a sample nmcfg.ora,
just to check my parameters? for dbshadow1:
DefinedNodes=dbshadow1 dbshadow2
CmDiskFiles=/dev/raw/raw2
CmHostName=dbshadow1
for dbshadow2:
DefinedNodes=dbshadow1 dbshadow2

Calling an applescript inside a Javascript, waiting for it to complete before moving on.

I've got a handly little applescript compiled as an app that performs an Adobe Illustrator action which exports the current file's artboard #1 to a specific location at 300ppi. I can even call it from a javascript... which is great because I want a javascript that will loop x times, changing text and exporting on each each loop. But, each loop will export a file with the same name... not a problem, I'll rename the file after each loop, and javascript will wait patiently for me the export to complete before moving on to the next step, right? Wrong! Javascript just keeps moving through the script.
So, how do I get Javascript to wait until the AppleScript completes the export? I can't have it wait a specific amount of time...export might take between 2 and 180 seconds.
My ideas:
1) can the applescript fire some sort of event letting Javascript know to move on?
2) Is there a Javascript equivalent to AppleScripts "do javavscript " command, which would allow me to move the Applescript code into my core javascript?
3) I could kludge a stopwatch on the first loop, checking every 10 milliseconds to see if the exported jpg file has been written... then using that as a baseline timer to pause later loops (not great, because the file will exist while AI writes it, and JS may rename it and try to export the second loop before the first is done).

I'd love to stay in one language, but since we're stuck on CS5 here, I have to make do.
My task for the script:
1) pop up a window to collect: 1a) number of copies, 1b) custom text, 1c) choice of three radio buttons -- I can't figure out how to do this in AS besides popping up three separate dialogs, I have it working great in JS
2) loop step 1, write a named text frame with an array value containing a concatenation of 1a, 1b, 1c -- pretty easy in either
3) loop step 2, export the file at a higher than 72ppi resolution with artboard -- currently controlled by an action, can't be done programmatically in either AS or JS using CS5
4) loop step 3, rename the file to match what was written to the text frame -- again, pretty easy in either
In CS5, neither JS or AS have the ability to control the resolution of a jpg when exporting.... just the scale. So an action is required.
My window JS has some of the basic edittext, statictext, buttons, panels elements, not too tricky:
