Installing pci card K430

I have installed a Serial ATA II to PCI- Express NCQ Host controller card in my K430, the next stage is to make bios changes (RAID) but i don't have a clue an anybody help?

hi angleside,
In addition to what have been suggested, the RAID settings on the BIOS should enable RAID-0 on the onboard ports.
- Link to picture
If Windows was installed in AHCI mode, you may need to modify the Windows registry from AHCI to RAID and then change the BIOS settings from AHCI to RAID - check this guide.(applies to Windows 7).
If you have Windows 8, try to:
1. Press the Windows key+R and type msconfig.
2. On the msconfig window, navigate to the Boot Tab and enable Safe Boot - Minimal and restart the PC.
3. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F1, change AHCI to RAID and press F10 to save and exit
4. Upon reboot, the SATA controller should change from AHCI to RAID (see Device Manager > Storage Controllers)
5. Undo the settings in Step 2 and reboot the PC in normal mode and observe. The two HDD should now be in RAID-0.

  • Wattage for Apple-installed PCIe cards

The MacPro PCI system is limited to a total of 300 watts. My new MacPro had the Apple RAID card and the ATI Radeon X1900 XT card preinstalled. I need to know the power consumption (Watts) for each of these cards, so that I can determine what other PCIe cards I can install. What are the Watt figures for each of these cards?
    Thank you
    NB

    An excerpt from bare feats...
    *RUNNING TWO RADEON X1900 XTs
We know of at least one university running two Radeon X1900 XTs in their Mac Pro. They are using them to drive three 1920x1080 projectors. I'm not sure now many Mac Pro users would want two X1900s in their Mac Pro but there are two things you should know if you do:
    1) The PCI Express bus can handle a total of 300 watts. Each Radeon X1900 XT requires a peak of 132 watts. So two of them equals 264 watts. You should be okay if you don't add any other PCIe cards -- especially since both cards are pulling power from the special six pin motherboard connector instead of the bus!
    2) To get the best performance from both high-end cards, we recommend installing the second X1900 in slot 2 (since slot 1 is double wide) and using the Expansion Slot Utility (in System/Library/CoreServices) to configure both slot 1 and 2 to run in 8 lane (x8) mode. (Though slot 4 can be configured to run at x8 with slot 1 running at x16, the X1900's heatsink is too thick to allow it to fit there. And slot 3 can only be configured as x4.)*
I don't think Apple has as publicly stated cower consumption for the RAID card. Less than 80 Watts Max would be a good guess.

  • I have installed succesfully a PCI cards seen by windows but it does not appears in the device and interfaces tools of the Measurement and automation manager?

Cannot install new objects in device and interface to use the ni-imaq library and to take image from my camera.

Which PCI card did you install? The PCI-8252 and PXI-8252 will not appear in MAX. Does your card appear in the Windows Device Manager?

  • Trouble installing SIIG Firewire 800 3-port PCIe card

I bought a Siig Firewire 800 3-port PCIe card. I am unable to install it on my G5 Quad 2.5 ghz dual 500 GIG HD PCIe because there isn't a power port to plug into. I called Apple & they said no can do. Siig support said I could plug into my "DVD drive". I rechecked the super drive & confirmed that there is not a forr pin in line power port. I have read postings of other G5 (dual processor) owners using this card. Is my problem unique to the G5 quad or is there a solution? Please help John

Most of the time if a card or something requires power, the vendor should have included a "Y-splitter" with it so that you can run DVD and card.
I thought PCIe would have more than enough, too. I tend to avoid SIIG though, having seen too many issues on various cards. They use to use ACard but seem to be branching out on their own.
There are some other FW800 PCIe. I think www.barefeats.com either did or was going to review a few. And of course OWC would have a list.
Not sure it will help, can't hurt, but I have seen and heard where a drive wouldn't mount but did after reset nvram was done. Something that ATTO recommends when changing PCI cards (like UL5D).
Oh -one thing - does the LaCie show up connected to native FW800 port okay?

  • M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card installed, now computer will not turn off

I installed Audiophile 2496 card + "live lite 4" software and now my computer will not turn off. It goes through the motions, but than just reboots. I have to hold the start button to kill it. I also have a Firmtek SATA PCI card and a USB 2.0 PCI card. Is there some way to solve this short of pulling the card?

  • Kernel panic after installing a USB 3.0 PCIe card

    Hello everybody,
I have a recent issue with my Mac Pro (early 2008). I just bought a USB 3.0 PCIe card from eBay for my Mac Pro and as the seller mentioned there are drivers for Mountain Lion. After installing the cards drivers that the seller sent me and plugged the PCIe card, whenever I connect a USB 3.0 device (I have only one) the Mac Pro is forced to reboot. If I leave the drive connected after the reboot I get a kernel panic message during the "Grey Apple Boot Screen" and the computer continues to reboot again and again. I have no issues with USB 2.0 devices at the same card. The kernel I get is the following. Does anyone have any idea? it seems like the kext installed with the card {net.osx86.kexts.VLIUSBXHCI(1.2.4)} causes the problem but the seller told me he has sold a lot of them, and i 'm the first with such a problem.
    Thank you in advance.

That card appears to be a Via Labs VL800 and Via has no Mac drivers, so gosh only knows where that kext came from. I'd highly recommend you remove it and consider getting a card from Sonnet where you can get proper Mac support:

To me it's not worth saving a few bucks from some generic card/driver pair to risk problems and perhaps even malware.

  • Installing a USB 2.0 PCI card

I'm looking to install a USB 2.0 PCI card in my Power Mac G4 867 mhz.
I've heard of problems doing this, and was looking for advice or suggestions for specific cards.
    Thank you.

    Hi-
To get optimal results from a USB 2.0 PCI card, get a card that has the NEC chipset. Via and Ali chipsets are problematic, and should be avoided.
Some USB 2.0 cards that have the NEC chipset are:
    Adaptec 3100LP
    BAFO BF-460
    Belkin F5U220
    GWC UC-160
    IOGear GIC250U
    Keyspan U2PCI-5
    O'toLink U2-C2B
    O'toLink U2-C2A
    O'toLink U2-P20N
    O'toLink U2-P50
    Ratoc PCIU5
    USBWholesale UII-PCIP
Even if the card isn't stated to be Mac compatible, OS X has NEC chipset support, and can use the card. I have two different cards bought from PC stores, that work great. And, they're alot cheaper than mac specific cards.
One of the biggest problem areas of USB 2.0 in a G4 is connection of an external harddrive, or other mass storage device. These devices invariably (with few, erratic exceptions) cause sleep freeze, even with a NEC chipset card.
For external harddrives, on a G4, USB 2.0 is not a convenient option.

  • Broken sound card, Can i install a pci card and get sound

I fried my internal sound card plugging up my mixer through my headphone jack. I have a mirror door, dual 1 ghz prossesors. Can i just install a m-audio pci card and get my sound back. i hope so. thanks.

The answer is yes, though there seems to be very few Mac compatible sound cards. This is probably because Macs always came with sound built in. The exceptions are the Xserve which have no sound section. I have a dual 1.33GHz G4 Xserve that I have fitted with a M-Audio Audiophile 192 PCI card. This works well but is expensive new (I got mine used). My only complaint (as a general purpose sound card) you have to use the M-Audio app to change the volume - the normal volume controls don't work.
MUCH cheaper is the USB sound card option. I also have a Griffin iMic on my work Mac and this is plugged into my keyboard usb slot. That means I can conveniently plug my headphones in with just a short cord. Works great, sounds great, and works with the standard volume controls.

  • Installing AudiomediaII Digital audio I/O PCI card in a G4

Hello, anybody out there has installed an old Audiomedia PCI card into a Quicksilver G4?. What could it happen?

I answered my own question. I simply dove in and took a chance (which I rarely do) and loaded the most current drivers
    siliconimage3124r5_15160.zip.
    The above drivers worked perfectly.

  • MSI pc54g2 wireless pci card - unable to install drivers

I have just purchased a wireless pci card (MSI PC54G2) and the Billion 7402VGP and am now trying to install the two. My problem (so far) is with the pci card ...
I have followed the manufacturers install instructions but continue to get the following message each time the drivers try to install
"There was a problem installing this hardware
    Network Installer
An error occurred during the installation of this divice
    The data is not valid"
I've since searched the net for answers (no luck); gone to the MSI site and downloaded the latest software (still no luck); searched various forums and removed and reinstalled the card several times (again no luck).
The closest(?) I've come to anything is that some pci cards require pci slots with v2.2 not v2.1. The MSI details for this card does not say anything about this, however I'm running a P4 Intel D850MV board which from what I can find is V2.2.
Does anyone have any ideas that may help?
    many thanks in anticipation

    Hi:
In order for me to provide the drivers you need except for the two I posted for you, you will need to click on each device needing drivers and post the hardware ID for them.
If you do not know where to find the hardware ID, please use the guide at the link below.

  • M5000 - PCI Cards Installed in IOBoat 1 of IOU Not Recognised by OS

    Hi,
We have one M5000 with 6 CPUs & we have created 4 Domains (D0 - 2CPUs, D1-1CPU, D2-1CPU & D3-2CPUs). We have been provided 2 Nos. of External IOU Units with IO Boat 0 & 1 installed. The idea is to connect IO-Boat 0 to Domain 0 & IO-Boat 1 to Domain 1 of the first IOU Unit & IO-Boat 0 to Domain 2, IO-Boat 1 to Domain 3 of the second IOU Unit.
    Issues being faced:
    1. The Dual GigE PCI Cards installed in the IO-Boat1 (1st IOU) connected to the Domain-1 are not recognized by the OS.
    2. The Dual GigE PCI Cards installed in the IO-Boat1 (2nd IOU)connected to the Domain-2 are not recognized by the OS.

Most likely answer to your question is you need to know domain configuration knowledge on the M-series servers.
I suppose you have configured the XSB (eXtended System Board ) in Quad mode so as to configure 4 domain on the M5000. You may check the showsb and showdcl on the XSCF prompt to verify this.
After you have configured XSBs, you need to understand what are the slots of IOU available to each XSBs. Pls refer XSCF user's guide and M-series server administration guide ( http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/prod/sparc.m5k~m5000-sw#hic) for further information.
Once you understand this, insert the link card in the available slot to particular domain and connect it to corresponding IO boat on the expansion box side.
IO expansion unit documentation is available @ http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/io-xpnsn-hw?l=en
Let me know if this makes sense...
    Thx
    Mehul

  • Installing PCIe 16x graphic card into XServe

I would like to install another graphic card into a new to buy XServe next to the onboard graphics.
Theoratically, the size dimensions of a standard NVidia GT 240 should fit in physically. Also, I don't think the heat would be an issue. But what I've read in the installation guide, seems like a problem:
About PCI Express Cards for the Xserve
The Xserve accepts cards that meet these specifications:
    - x16 PCI-E cards
    - 6.6 inch maximum length (slot 1), 9 inch (slot 2)
    - 25 W maximum power consumption per card
According to NVidia, the board consumes about 69 Watts maximum. Which is conforming to the PCIe specs (max. 75 Watts).
Thus, why does Apple give a 25 W limit? Is the power consumption the core of the problem that might be overcome by installing two power supply units? Or might it be the riser that defines the limit here?
I would really like to have more CUDA/OpenCL capable GPU's in the system, even if they are not among of the most powerful of their type and a GT 240 would fit perfectly into my needs. But I cannot risk damaging or unstabelizing the system or loosing warranty etc.
    Thanks in advance!
    TB

Thanks for the reply! Well I think the heat problem would be the best solvable one. By now, the server is planned to be equipped with:
    - the dual CPU option
    - 12GB RAM
    - SSD drive
    - 3 or 2 harddisks
    - dual power supply.
Yes, there would already be some heat producing stuff in there but the graphics board comes with another active cooling - if this is a pro or a con concerning airflow is another question. At least, the PCIe card is the last in the chain of components the airflow has to cool down. Also, the server would be located in a temperature controlled environment among our other servers.
The workload would most likely not be 24/7, but should hit 100% of each core of both CPU's and (hopefully) both GPU's for quite a long time, hours at least, more liklely some days - well both, CPU & GPU wont be stressed constantly at 100%, more or less alternating though.
Thus, if you expect the heat problem to reason apple to give this wattage limit, it would be most interesting to me, if there is anybody who is running an extension card that defenitely consumes more than these 25 Watts?

  • Installing a Serial DB25 PCI Card

Is there a PCI card that is compatible with the Mac Pro that sports a DB25 Serial card? (The connection used on old printers before USB) I need it to be a card, not the USB-to-DB25 solutions, for running CNC machines. I'd only use it while booting Windows with Parallels.
    Anyone have a clue?

you can put the card in & use it in windows...
the only thing you might run into is if OS X may not boot if it's installed... but this is usually only the case with unsupported video & SATA cards.
if it's only used in windows & the machine will boot properly to OS X, all should be well.

  • No boot with mini pcie card installed

I have a wind PC and I am trying to install a mini-pcie video decoder into it. I installed the card and the system will not boot. Take the card out, boots up fine. Thought maybe a bios update would do it. Flashed the bios, boots fine without the card, no boot with the card. Am I missing something?

There are plenty of things you can do with it, it can be an HTPC, a server, a mobile work platform.
After all, it is a Computer and there are plenty of people in the world who don't even have clean water or food at all.
I'm sure you can find a use for it, perhaps gifting it to someone who isn't as well off as you.
You'd be surprised how good it feels to make someone who is less fortunate  really happy.
I've given away many PCs, and I'm far from wealthy! When people I know buy new PCs I take their old ones off their hands, upgrade them, clean them up and give them away to people who can't afford one. I've given away a few on mine too. Just last week I donated my old laptop to a woman who is fighting cancer.
This machine was going to be a high def HTPC, that's not going to happen. Since I can't afford anything else I am a bit bummed out. Working three jobs to pay the bills, I just wanted to do something nice for me for a change. Once in a while I even grab an old PC from work and redo it for someone. Some of our wealthier customers just leave their old PCs with us when they pick up their new ones.
