Installing Premiere 6.5 on a Vista 64 Machine

I have been trying to install Premiere 6.5 on my Vista 64 Laptop.  It won't even let the install begin.  If I click on the setup it says "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running.  Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an 32-bit or 64 bit versionof this program then contact the software publisher."
Is there a work around for this at all or am I just out of luck?
Thanks,
Mike

I have been testing this for over a week now and everything (my old software/drivers) all work.  I should have said earlier that you can download a virtual copy of Windows XP to use with Virtual PC...Microsoft will give you an operating system to use (activation and all).  Very generous of them considering that they could have made you buy a reduced fee copy.  After install, just copy the virtual XP file and rename it (otherwise it will give you an error message and not boot).  At any rate, you can run DV500 drivers, Premiere 6.5, your favorite old card programs or games or virtually (no pun intended) anything you could run in XP.  You may want to adjust the screen resolution or run in full screen mode, however.
Again, the only drawback is that it is cumbersome to move the files back and forth.  You can drag and drop or utilize a shared folder through your network, but you can't see the files in Windows Explorer since it is a virtual drive and not a "real" one.  You could also upgrade to Premiere Pro (64bit) and Adobe has some excellent tutorial mini-videos on their site if you want to check it out.  I kind of like the trial version of it, but miss the MPEG output and dislike having to learn a new way to author my DVDs using Encore.  Since you can't test Encore in the trial version I am a little concerned that the learning curve will be more than I want to handle at this point.  Premiere Pro is definitely worth the upgrade price though and I still may "bite the bullet" and do it when Windows 7 is released later this year.
So, to sum up here...I would say that you have a few excellent choices of options in this thread....well, that is, except for the one about copying Premiere over and it runs (check my previous post on that - lol).  Good luck to you.

i take it it's not allowed then, was hoping for a bit more of a helpful answer.
Maybe you can help me with this question...
I installed premiere pro cc on my desktop and my laptop. When i installed it on my laptop it wasn't running properly so i did an uninstall. Now when ever try to install it again it only gives me the option to download premiere pro cs6 and not cc. So at the moment i only have it installed on one machine. Can you advise / help?

  • Help me install Premiere 6.5 on my Vista laptop (old XP laptop crashed)

I am trying to load my Adobe Premiere 6.5 on my new laptop but the CD keeps stalling and giving me a message of th following:
    Setup Initialization error
    Setup requires_SETUP.DLL and _ISRES.DLL (Located in _SETUP.LIB)
    in order to operate properly
Please ensure these files are located within SETUP.EXE
My old laptop was a Windows XP machine 32 bit and my new laptop is a Vista Basic 32 bit as well. I see no reason why it should not load and install properly. I got my old  hard drive for my old laptop fixed and just installed premiere back on it, but it is a dinosaur so I need it on my new laptop. I tried copying the files onto a CD and paste them in my new computer but when I try and launch the program it says it is not registered.
This is frustrating but I cannot afford to upgrade as my 6.5 works fine and I have not even used it.
Can anyone help me get this installed.
    please email me at

Both Microsoft AND Apple (read about Apple's Snow Leopard) issue new operating systems that break old software
P6.5 would seem to be broken with Vista
I am going to build a Windows 7 computer some time next year, and I already know I have to buy a new MS Office suite 'cause the Office 97 I now use with WinXP is not compatible with Win7
You MAY be able to get P6.5 working if you use an appropriate compatibility setting in Vista... to read about that, go to this link and search
    http://search.microsoft.com/search.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US
Otherwise, you will simply have to buy new software that is certified to work with Vista

  • How to install Premiere CC (not 2014) on a new machine?

Just added a new machine to the studio, and am looking for a way to install Premiere Pro CC 7.2.x.
The rest of the studio still hasn't upgraded to 2014 (and, no offence Adobe, but your track record means there's a few good months of forum-watching standing between me and a site-wide upgrade to a .0 product from you )
This machine has a new license, but I've also tried swapping licenses with another suite so that this new computer is using a CC account from the 7.x era.
I understand I'm supposed to be able to click on "More Information" in the Creative Cloud app, but that's not an option for me. Only "View Tutorials". Note that only the Premiere Pro CC 2014, and not Premiere Pro CC, appears in my Creative Cloud app, presumably because of the fresh install.
Anyone know the proper workflow here or have a direct link?

  • Does Premiere Pro CS4 really support Vista 64-bit?

I have installed Premiere Pro CS4 on my Vista 64-bit server and recognized in the task manager that Premiere is listed as a 32-bit application "Adobe Premiere Pro.exe *32" which makes me wonder if Adobe's statement given in the FAQ is correct, where they say "Adobe Premiere Pro is optimized to run on 64-bit systems. The key advantage of 64-bit systems is that they can use up to 64GB of RAM. Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 can use large amounts of this memory because it splits different tasks into separate processes."
Am I executing the correct Premiere Pro EXE-file (the application itself works fine) and is that 32-bit application able to make use of the fully available RAM space (which is 8 GB on my system)?

Well great for you Harm, but this problem has me stumped.  I've been troubleshooting NLE systems since my Pinnacle DC30 Premiere 4.2 system.
I'm looking for a solution not to start a fight so if anyone has confronted similar problems and found a fix, please reply.
FYI, Adobe has made it clear that Premiere CS4 does not support daisy chaining decks or any other 1394 devices, but this is not my problem.
"Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 doesn't support multiple devices on a FireWire chain or multiple devices on a FireWire card."
Above quote copied from this Adobe support document http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405744.html
I'm not working with DV I have been shooting in 720P on a Sony PVW EX1 if that even matters.
Can you explain why my external array works well with XP fairly well with 32 bit Vista?  It's an ASUS P5E Deluxe motherboard.  This is not BS, I have a long list of Microsoft case numbers and it is REAL pain having to explain to someone in India the problem over and over again. I've been told by the array manufacturer SimpleTech ProDuo that it should work with the OS drivers.  The Internet forums for other 1394 devices have many instances of 64 bit Vista incompatibility. The same problems I'm having with the same OS just different devices.  What's really weird is how it will work fine like today, it's back to normal. I have had this system working perfectly then overnight the array vanishes in my computer but shows up in device manager with an error. Then a few hours later without changing anything, it starts working again, very intermittent.  As usual, it will fail when there's a deadline.
I've run Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes and Spybot.  Swapped cables, defragged drives, updated MB bios and software looked everywhere for solutions.
The MB Manual is found at http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
I can transfer content to my internal array but I'm trying to optimize a workflow that starts by shooting on SxS cards on the PVW EX1 and transferring them to the array in the field with the 32 bit Vista laptop and making rough cuts.  I keep the project files on a USB drive.  Then transfer the array and USB drive to the 9450 quad desktop system in the studio for final editing.  When I get this to work, it's a real time saver.  But transferring files to the internal array is possibly the only dependable solution for now.

  • Error when installing Premiere Elements 3 in Vista 32bit

I am trying to install Premiere Elements 3.0 on my Vista Business 32bit computer, but I am getting an error during the installation.
The error states "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed."  I get this no matter what:
    -Normal install
-Right click and Run As Administrator
-Right click and set compatibility as XP
-Running the PRE_302_EFGJ Vista patch yields the same error
I have successfully installed many other pieces of software, only PE3 is giving me issues.
Is this a known issue or could something be up with my system?
    Thanks in advance,

Make sure you've got the latest updates to Vista, including the option ones. You'll need to manually go to Windows Update and click the option to install all updates to do this.
Also ensure that you have the latest Quicktime.

  • Installed Premiere Pro CS4 but video display does not work?

I just got my copy of CS$. After installing Premiere I found two things that seem very wrong:
    1) video display does not work, not even the little playback viewer next to improted film clips located on the project / sequence window. Audio works fine.
    2) the UI is way too slow for my big beefy system.
My pc is a dual boot Vista-32 and XP system with 4GB of memory installed and nvidia geforce 280 graphics board with plenty of GPU power. The CS4 is installed on the Vista-32 partition. My windows XP partition on the same PC with Premiere CS2 works great and real fast.
Any ideas how to solve this CS4 install issue?
    Ron

I would like to thank Dan, Hunt, and Haram:
The problem is now very clear to me. The problem only shows up with video footage imported into PP CS4 encoded with "MS Video 1" codec. So this seems to be a bug. The codec is very clearly called out and supported within various menues but video with this codec just will not play in any monitor or preview window. In addition the entire product looks horrible with respect to performance while PP CS4 trys its best to play the video. Audio will start playing after about 30 seconds. And once in awhile part of video shows up at the wrong magnification before blanking out again.
My suggestion to the Adobe team: fix the bug and add some sample footage to the next release so new installations can test their systems with known footage.

    Ricky,
simply find your work folder and save everything in safe place.
If you have not changed any setting, it should be in user\your name.
About uninstall, just launch it like you'd want to remove everything, then, when the program will ask you which application had to be removed,
just sign premiere, mediaencore and company.
Unfortunately for you, I'm quite agree with Harm.

  • Exit Code 24 - Cannot install Premiere Elements 10

Having downloaded and installed premiere elements 10 i experienced problems with the program and especially the help facility which just didnt work.
I went ahead and purchased a full copy of the program in the belief that a fresh full install would resolve the problem.
However I am unable to either uninstall the faulty program or install the purchased item.
Instead it just states that photoshopserver must be stopped but even when i do this you cannot progress at all!
Any help would be much appreciated.
The installation is on an iMac running OSX Lion and everything is up to date.
I have uploaded a fault report package but have no idea how to link it with any reported error.
Exit Code 24 is all that gets reported when you have to cancel the install process which is the only option

    Brian,
I appreciate the clarification. I just got confused with the terms, and needed to know more. Now things make more sense to me, though I am troubled by perhaps the way that Adobe either designed, or implemented their installer module. Usually, the only trouble that one has with an Adobe installer is something fritzed in the OS, like the MSI module in Windows (there were many problems with one - think that it was on Vista - and MS fixed that), or just plain old OE, where one tries to run the installation routine for the Functional Content (Extras), before actually installing the program. Normally, they are very good, though there was one for an update to PrPro, that had to be pulled and reworked. The update feature worked fine upon release, but when Adobe packaged that update with an installation module, things got side-ways. It was pulled, and a new, re-written one was posted to Adobe.com in about 4 working days. Otherwise, it's normally easy, quick, virtually transparent, and no one has issues - that is what makes troubleshooting installation issues so tough - most of us never encounter them, and have to rely of "fixes," that we have read about. Sounds like there is an issue here.
Again, thank you for setting me straight.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Premiere Elements 2 hangs on Vista

I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron PC with an Intel Quad Q8200 CPU, running Vista Home Premium SP1. I installed Premiere Elements 2.0 and have had nothing but trouble. I keep getting messages about not finding ad2mpegin.dll, although these are not coming from PE2. When I start PE2 and try to create a new project, I get the initial screen in no time. Then, however, I try to hit the Capture icon and my system freezes up till I reboot. I have waited half an hour but it stays frozen. HELP ...

Premiere Elements 2 is not certified for Vista.
The first version of Premiere Elements that will run on Vista is version 3.02. Sorry.

I just installed Premiere Element13. The pop-up cannot be dismissed and the program is stuck there and won't even close. I have to go to Task Manager to end it!  I am running Windows 8.1, i5 4670K CPU, 8G RAM, 1T HD with DVD burner. Any suggestion?

    Heliossss
I just installed the purchased version of Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 7 and 8.1 64 bit.  Interesting....
    1. Beyond the usual, there seems to be a problem with this version's Interpret Footage and Properties readings for the .mod widescreen 16:9 file
Premiere Elements 13 Major .MOD Widescreen Concerns
    2. With the Sept 2014 tryout there was a video transition named Funnel which is not there now in December 2014 in the
    purchased version.
    3. In the Sept. 2014 tryout, there were 2 new Movie Menu themes in the Kid's Corner category (Recital and Back to School). They
are not there in my December 2014 purchased Premiere Elements 13.
    4. There are some reports about some .m2ts files having no sound only in the Elements Organizer 13 player. More news on that.
This just might be a problem with AC-3 (Dolby Digital) support in this particular user file in the Elements Organizer 13 player. If you run into this type of issue, please let us know.
But, right now all is moving along nicely. Hope all is going well there.

  • I had to re-install Premiere Pro CS5 and now video are files acting funny...

Hello. I had to reformat my system drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and then I did an anytime upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I then re-installed Premiere Pro CS5. Here's the problem. When I open any of my projects that I worked on BEFORE I re-installed Premiere (when I was using Windows 7 Home Premium), the video files on the timeline all look corrupted when I play the timeline now. They have these weird block artifacts and also a constant pulsing thing going on. I deleted all the media cache files and all the media cache database files but, nothing changed even though Premiere conformed every single video file in the project again. Then, I went to "Sequence" and hit "Render Entire Work Area" and after Premiere was finished rendering, I noticed the artifacts and pulsing are completely gone BUT, the video files look like a VHS tape that has been recorded over a few times. The edges of people and things in focus aren't nice and sharp like they were before I re-installed Premiere. I DO NOT have the time or patience to have to delete all the video files and import them again into the project and re-edit the entire scene! Can someone please help me resolve this problem?! I am about done with Premiere!
Is there a way to delete the video source files that are on the left side of the timeline (next to the "Source" window, where they got imported into the project) without deleting the edited video files on the timeline and then re-import the same source video files into the project, kind of like "refreshing" the video files? If this is possible, it seems like this would fix the problem without me having to re-edit everything again.
*Update*  My idea of just re-importing the source video clip won't work either. I deleted one of the source video clips, which deleted its reference clip on the timeline, and I re-imported the video source clip to see if it would play all weird in Premiere and sure enough, it has the same exact block artifacts and pulsing effect like all the other source clips in the project. It seems that if that's the case, it might be a codec problem. But, that doesn't make sense because if I open the clip on my hard drive with Windows Media Player or Allplayer, the clips plays perfectly fine and looks like it is supposed to. So, it must be a codec problem in Premiere??? Could it be that Premiere Pro CS5 doesn't work well with Windows 7 Professional? I find that hard to believe. Can someone please help me?
By the way, all the video clips in the project are from my Panasonic GH1 or my Panasonic GH2. They are all 1080p/24 AVCHD. I even made a new sequence within the same project making sure the sequence settings are AVCHD 1080p 24 and still nothing is fixed.

Have you tried exporting a 10 second section of the footage to see if the issue shows up once the seqeunce is actually exported from the timeline. I edit on CS5 with windows 7 pro at work quite often and have no issues so I assure you that isn't the issue. I also edit with AVCHD footage when at home and work quite freqeuntly as well so I'm positive that isn't the issue. It sounds like a GPU driver has been corrupted in the way it interacts with premiere pro. What type of GPU do you have? If it supports MPE's GPU acceleration have you tried turning it off and seeing if that makes any difference?
Anyways though try to export a 10 second test section of your timeline to see if when the clip is exported from premiere it will play normally in windows media player or vlc or w/e media player you want to use. If it exports fine then you can almost be positive it's a corrupted video card driver. If that's the case I'd re-install your GPU's driver and also check your gpu makers website to see if they have a updated driver avaiable.

  • On how many computer can I install Premiere Elements (one licens)

On how many computer can I install Premiere Elements (one licens)

    number
What are the computer operating systems involved? Are you installing from installation files (from online download purchase) or from installation disc
(from purchase in boxed packaging)? Answers to those questions would probably get you the best possible answer to your question.
    If installation files.....
You are not going to be able to install a Premiere Elements Windows purchased serial number on a Mac computer or a Premiere Elements Mac
purchased serial number on a Windows computer.
    If installation discs...
Box packaging typically comes with two installation discs....one for Windows and one for Mac. In this type of situation, typically you use one
serial number for them both. If that is the case, then the following applies...
Adobe allows you to use the same purchased activated serial number on no more than 2 of your computers. And, you do not use them at the same time.
If you are dealing with two computers with the same operating system, then you should be able to use that same purchased serial number for that operating system on no more than 2 of your computers. Again, you do not use them at the same time.
Please let us know if any questions or need clarification.
    Thanks.
