Good luck dude...I just installed 8.1.6 (redhat 7) on a Duron 650 with 128 MB ram and 256 MB swap space. It installed fine but when creating a database, it took two hours to get to 53% then started swapping hard out and eventually hung the machine. I also tried on a K6/2 450 with 256 MB ram and 700 MB swap. That machine takes just over an hour to create a custom db with all options (similiarly for the duron once after an increase to 160 MB ram and 500MB swap space). The lesson here is that you cannot ignore Oracle's recommended resources :) Good luck with 32 MB ram...even if you get it to install, you'll be waiting till next century for it to create even a simple database.
Cheers,
Andrew

Check "Problem: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can only be installed in new
Hi All
Installing 10g software on AIX Box in /oracle/oraHome2,where oracle9i is already installed in /oracle/oraHome1 and oracle inventory is in /oracle/inventory
In product specific prerequisite screen I am getting the
check:Oracle Home incompatibilties is failed I am getting the error
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Passed
=======================================================================
Checking for Oracle Home incompatibilities ....
Actual Result: Oracle9i Database 9.2.0.1.0
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Database 10g Release 2 can only be installed in a new Oracle Home
Recommendation: Choose a new Oracle Home for installing this product
though I am installing it in different oracle homes why i am getting this error?
Is it because 10g installation is picking the same oracle inventory /oracle/inventory
do i need to make different oracle inventory for different oracle homes???????plz confirm..is thats the reason i am getting this error??????
Thanks inadvance
GaganI figure out you are trying to install 10gR2 on top of an existing 9iR2 Oracle Home. This is corrected at the Path definition window. Most probably you just click on the <Next> and by default the 9iR2 Oracle Home was selected. You must define a new oracle home for the 10gR2 install.

Problem installing mod_plsql oracle 11g linux
Hello and thanks in advance for your help! I want to install an Oracle HTTP Server 11g on a Centos linux server. It seems to be working but when I execute a pls query such as mydomain.gr:7777/pls/smth nothing happens.. Logs of apache show the following error:
[VirtualHost: main] MODPLSQL-00368: mod_plsql: (null) HTTP-404 No procedure specified to run
Until now I have managed to install a WebLogic server and the WebCache server. Should I also install the Database manager so as to configure
mod_plsql?
I edited dads.conf, cache.conf and plsql.conf, and included plsql.conf in httpd.conf of apache for oracle http server.
What could be going wrong?Try add and set "PlsqlDefaultPage" at "dads.conf". Any PL/SQL procedure, which generated HTML. There is package "PKG_WEB", procedure "list' at this example:
<Location /pls/ddd>
SetHandler pls_handler
Order allow,deny
Allow from All
AllowOverride None
PlsqlDatabaseUsername
PlsqlDatabasePassword
PlsqlDatabaseConnectString DB1.WORLD
PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
PlsqlSessionStateManagement StatelessWithResetPackageState
PlsqlMaxRequestsPerSession 1
PlsqlDefaultPage *PKG_WEB.list*

Installing RAC Problem: Oracle Clusterware 10g is present on remote node
Folks,
Hello.
I am installing Oracle 11gR2 RAC using 2 Virtual Machines (rac1 and rac2 whose OS are Oracle Linux 5.6) in VMPlayer.
I have been installing Grid Infrastructure using runInstaller in the first VM rac1 from step 1 to step 9 of 10.
On the step 9 of 10 in the Wizard, accidentally, I touch the Mouse, and the Wizard is gone.
The directory for installing Grid in the 2 VMs is the same: /u01
In order to make sure everything is correct, I delete entire directory /u01 in the 2 VMs and install Grid in rac1 again.
But get the error message as follows:
[INS-40915] The Installer has detected the presence of Oracle Clusterware 10g on the remote node rac2.localdomain.
Cause: Oracle Clusterware 10g is present on remote node rac2.localdomain but not on the local node.
Action: To upgrade the Oracle Clusterware 10g Installation to this release, run Installer on a node where Oracle Clusterware 10 installation is located. To create a new cluster, choose a set of nodes that are not part of an existing cluster.
Regarding the above error message, I do not install any Oracle Clusterware 10g in rac2 because it's the first time when I install Grid using rac1 and rac2.
My question is:
Do any folk understand how to remove something in rac2 to solve the above issue so that I can install Grid again ?
Thanks.Folks,
Hello. Thanks a lot for replying.
The tutorial http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/rem_orcl.htm#CBHEFHAC is about the regular procedure to deinstall Grid Clusterware and Database.
I have just installed Grid and have not installed the Database. I have removed ORACLE HOME /u01 completely in both VMs. There is no way to follow the regular procedure to deinstall at this time.
I do not install any Oracle Clusterware 10g in the VM rac2 because it's the first time when I install Grid using VM rac1 and rac2.
When install Grid again. I get the error message:
"[INS-40915] The Installer has detected the presence of Oracle Clusterware 10g on the remote node rac2.localdomain."
This is strange! It seems that we need to remove some files in the VM rac2 like /etc/oracle that I am not sure.
My questions are:
First, where is 10g directory to remove ?
Second, what files left on the system to clean up ?
Third, what does " Follow 239998.1" means regarding asanqa's replying to me ?
Thanks. -

Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
If anyone can help here, would really appreciate it or else, I will have no choice but to install previous version of oracle client.

Install of Oracle 8.1.7. on Solaris 8 fails
Hi All!
I am doing an install of Oracle 8.1.7. Right near the end of the install when oracle is trying to link it's libraries, I get a message that /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk failed. I continue with the install and try to run make on this file by hand. I get:
make: Fatal error: Don't know how to make '/oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/libskgxpd.a(/oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/skgxpd.o)'
I did a search on Google and the only references to skgxpd.o where for the SuSE Linux Oracle, although the error is identical. Unfortunately, no solution has been offered.
One person I talked to said to make sure LD_LIBRARY_PATH included /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/. However, that didn't help.
I would be grateful for any help.
Regards,
Jim MohrOne person I talked to said to make sure LD_LIBRARY_PATH included /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/. However, that didn't help. James,
Because the path of /oracle/product/8.1.7./rdbms/lib/ depends on the location of ORACLE_HOME you set, it doesn't sound like a pre-installation setting. It's not mentioned in the manual anyway.
You may want to check to see if the following commands are on the installation user (oracle)'s PATH.
$ /usr/bin/which make
$ /usr/bin/which ar
$ /usr/bin/which ld
$ /usr/bin/which nm
Also it's mentioned in the manual:
===============================================================
Note: If you require /usr/ucb in your search path, make sure it
comes after /usr/ccs/bin in the PATH setting.
===============================================================
I set up a 8.1.7 on Solaris 8 but didn't have such a problem.
Best luck,

Does OAS Enterprise manager console install when Oracle DB EM installed?
I installed Oracle database 10gR2 on my development machine. After that I installed Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.3.1.0
Although I opted to install the EM component I don't think that it did install.

These instructions are located in C:\OracleAS_1\install\readme.txt for your future reference.
You can view the status of the server with the following command:

Installing both Oracle 9iDB and Developer6i
I'm trying to install both Oracle 9i Database and Developer 6i but it doesn't work! The Database works fine but the Forms Builder, for example, doesn't want to connect to the database I've created when installing the Database 9i. I get the following message : "ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name" ( I've put the system/manager username and password and the database name I've created with Database9i). Is there a way to solve this problem? Or can anyone tell me any other "combination" of previous releases of Database and Developer that "work" together? I've installed Windows 2000 as on XP I had the same problems (I hoped they would be solved like this!)
Thank you,
Andreea ValceanuThank you for your detailed answer, but i'll have 2 ask U more questions, because I feel i keep doing smth wrong and that's why it doesn't work - cause it still doesn't! so I've installed OracleDB9i and then Developer6i; what I have done after that was to copy the entry for the database I've created when installing the DB9i from the tnsnames.ora (of the DB) and paste it into the tnsnames.ora of the Forms6i. I've tried both: deleting what was there, leaving just what I've pasted and just adding the aditional info about my service/database. But it still gives me the same error message when trying to connect the form builder: "TNS: could not resolve service name"! Do u can think of any other possible reason why i keep getting this message? (services, win2000, etc)
thank u very much for your time, Andreea -
Monitoring Services Installed on Oracle apllication Server using ITCAM
can we Monitoring Services Installed on Oracle apllication Server using Tivoli ITCAM for J2EE.
Hi All,
Finlly got rid of the problem by incuding ' loaderRef="oracle.tasks.loader" ' in my taskdef tag.
Earlier it was
<taskdef resource="oracle/antlib.xml" uri="antlib:oracle" >
<classpath>
<pathelement location="${oracle.home}/j2ee/utilities/ant-oracle-classes.jar" />
<pathelement location="${oc4j.home}/lib/javax88.jar" />
<pathelement location="${oc4j.home}/admin_client.jar" />
<pathelement location="${oc4j.home}/oc4jclient.jar" />
<pathelement location="${oracle.home}/webservices/lib/wsa.jar" />
<pathelement location="${oc4j.home}/lib/bcel.jar" />
</classpath>
</taskdef>
Now it is
<taskdef
resource="oracle/antlib.xml"
uri="antlib:oracle"
loaderRef="oracle.tasks.loader" >

Can i install/run oracle 8i in win xp
can i install/run oracle 8i in windows xp ?
yes u can install ora 8i in win xp pro
Windows XP Home Edition
Oracle 8i is not certified on windows XP. Even if yes, it must be Windows XP Professional.
You can install Oracle8i on windows XP Home Edition, try like this:
1 - Copy your Oracle CD into hard disk in your
machine. For example Copy from oracle8i CD into C:\Oracle\ ...
2 - Search the two files named Symcjit.dll on the D drive (where you have copied Oracle8i. You can found them in (example):
C:\Oracle\stage\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.30\1
\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll
3 - Rename this file (Example): symcjit_back.dll (make sure to find two files and rename them)
4 - Execute the Oracle setup.exe from C:\Oracle\setup.exe
=================================================================
When Oracle 8i dies on the install or the installer hangs, here is the fix for this, make sure that you have Service Pack 2 installed.
1. \JRE\1.3.1\ From Sun. (You can download java program at http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/download-jre-windows.html)
2. Install the java file.
There is also a problem in the installation disk.
3. Make a copy of the Oracle 8i disk on the local hard disk.
4. Do a search for the two files called symcjit.dll and rename them for example: symcjit.old.
5. Install Oracle from the win32 directory.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ORACLE DOESN'T SUPPORT THE USE OF THOSE PRODUCTS IN SOME WINDOWS, BUT HAVE AUTHORIZED THESE WORKAROUNDS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY

How to connect oracle DB installed in oracle VM from PC
Hi
I am trying to connect to oracle DB which is installed on oracle Virtual Machine from my PC.I can not succeed to connect with Oracle SQL developer.It is saying that can Network adapter can not establish connetion.Is there a specific configuration for this.I am using Vista and i can connect to internet from my VM.
Regards.
Muratyimu187 wrote:
No I can not ping the mechine.Also ı did not make a specific network configuration to my oracle Virtual Machine.
As i said above i did not make any specific network conf. but i can connect to internet from oracle VM.
Regards
MuratYour problem is not much related to ORACLE network issues like TNS and all,
but it is issue with networking from host to VM, You may get better response if you post in vmware communities.

Uanble to open the App server console after installing the Oracle soa suite
Hello,
after installing the oracle soa suite 10.3.1.0 we are unable to open the application server console. it gives "page not found" error.
We have installed on a Win2000 server instance.
We have selected all the default values while installing.
any input is appreciated.
regardsWe had the same problem today:
1. From cmnd line, from your ...\opmn\bin directory run "opmnctl startall".
2. That will tell you where the log files are and what they're called. If the log file error was like mine, "Could not reserve enough space for your object heap.", then you need to try setting your maxpermsize=128 in oc4j_opmn.xml and opmn.xml
This resolved the issue for me, hope it helps. -
Fresh install of Oracle VM Manager Template into Oracle VM Server
Hi,
I am trying to install the Oracle VM Manager template and then
create an Oracle VM Manager client.
I have already done a 'fresh install' of Oracle VM Server.
I do not have another machine available to use to contain the
'Oracle VM Manager', therefore, I am attempting to install the
Oracle VM Manager template directly into an Oracle VM Manager Server and
run the client.
I am following the instructions of the Oracle VM Server Users Guide
in section 4.3.
When I extract the zip file contents into the
/OVS/seed_pool directory, I get the following files.
Deploy_Manager_Template.sh
OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM.tgz
So far, so good.
Next, I used 'tar' to help me extract the directories of the .tgz file.
So far, so good.
Next, as instructed, I used 'python' and 'print randomMAC()' to create a new MAC address.
Inside the /OVS/seed_pool/OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM/vm.cfg file
I modified the vif MAC address. I replaced the
xx:xx:xx with the 'last three' that were generated by the python randomMAC
function from above.
vif = [ 'mac=00:16:3E:<my generated numbers>', ]
So far, so good?
In the Oracle VM Server Users Guide in section 4.3.,
The next step, expains that I should run
xm create mv.cfg
I did this. When I ran this I received back the error.
Using config file "./vm.cfg"
Error disk is not accessible.
When I peek inside my vm.cfg file.
I see file references starting with the following
file:/OVS/running_pool/ ...
Of, course my running_pool directory is empty.
(Again, this is a fresh install of Oracle VM Server).
My first question is the following.
Sometime in this process was I supposed to run
the the following executable?
./Deploy_Manager_Template.sh
If so, should I have done this early?
Was the modification of the vif (of adding the MAC address
into the vm.cfg file, something I 'should have not done'
or 'something that could be ignored' because the
'./Deploy_Manager_Template.sh' would have done this for me?
My second question is the following.
Would the following process be 'more correct?'
..1 Not modify the vm.cfg' file.
..2 run ./Deploy_Manager_Template.sh.
..3 In the /OVS/running_pool/ directory find my
vm.cfg file of interest, then modify the vif with a new MAC address.
..4 In /OVS/running_pool/Change my current location to my directory of interest
run xm create vm.cfg (to run my Oracle VM Manager)?
Any help or ideas whould be appreciated.
Thank you very much,

Template Version 2.3
Oracle VM Manager Version 2.2.0
This document contains:
1. Prerequisites for Oracle VM Manager virtual machine (VM) deployment
2. Oracle VM Manager Template description
3. Creating an Oracle VM Manager Virtual Machine from
Oracle VM Manager Template
4. Deployment Interview
5. Known Issues
For more information on Oracle VM Manager, please refer to
the "Oracle VM Manager Installation Guide" and the "Oracle VM Manager
User's Guide" available at:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15458_01/index.htm
1. Prerequisites
================
- A new install of Oracle VM Server 2.2 that has NOT been managed by another
Oracle VM Manager. Manager Template 2.2 is intended to be installed on Oracle
VM 2.2 server. If you have a new Oracle VM 2.1.5 server and want to deploy
Oracle VM Manager template, please use the Oracle VM 2.1.5 Manager template.
Note: root access to the server's dom0 is required.
- It's highly recommended that you upgrade the default agent (ovs-agent-2.3-19)
to ovs-agent-2.3-27 or later. You can get the latest Oracle VM 2.2 packages
from Oracle's Unbreakable Linux Network (http://linux.oracle.com).
Note: Alternate location to get Oracle VM agent 2.3-27 is
http://oss.oracle.com/oraclevm/server/2.2/RPMS/ovs-agent-2.3-27.noarch.rpm
- A working directory of the Oracle VM Server 2.2 has at least 4GB free space
for downloading and installing the template. The working directory can be any
directory on the Oracle VM server except /OVS/running_pool.
Note: The /root partition of the default Oracle VM server install may not have
enough space to temporarily host the template installation. Please use other
directory that has sufficient free space.
- At least 15GB of free space in the cluster root storage repository. For storage
and repository configuration, please refer to Oracle VM 2.2 Server User Guide:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15458_01/doc.22/e15444/storage.htm
and
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15458_01/doc.22/e15444/repository.htm
- At least 2GB of free memory on the Oracle VM Server
- A static IP address for the Oracle VM Manager
- If enabling HA (high availability) for the Oracle VM Manager,
mount a clustered OCFS2 or NFS filesystem on /OVS. If ext3 or a
local OCFS2 filesystem is used, enabling HA will cause the high availability
prerequisite checking to fail. The Oracle VM Manager configuration
process will exit without completing the configuration.
- The Oracle VM Manager will register the first VM that it detects.
To have Oracle VM Manager be the first VM registered,
make sure there are no virtual machine images besides the Oracle VM Manager
virtual machine in the /OVS/running_pool directory on the Oracle VM Server.
- A desktop or other system with a VNC Viewer installed
The steps below assume that the Oracle VM Server used is not currently
or was not previously managed by another Oracle VM Manager. If this is not
the case, the instructions below will ask user clean up Oracle VM Agent DB
before running the Oracle VM Manager.
2. Oracle VM Manager Template Description
=========================================
The Oracle VM Manager Template is distributed as one archive file which
includes:
File Version
OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM.tgz 2.3
Deploy_Manager_Template.sh 2.3
The OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM.tgz archive contains two disk images,
a VM configuration file and a readme file:
- Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3 x86 system disk image
- Oracle VM Manager 2.2 disk image
- vm.cfg
- README
The system image is a JeOS (Just enough OS) installation of Oracle
Enterprise Linux 5.3. It is a smaller footprint install that contains
the only packages needed by Oracle VM Manager.
Oracle VM Manager is configured to use Oracle Database 10g
Express Edition (included).
Deploy_Manager_Template.sh is used to check the prerequisite and
create virtual machine.
During the first boot of the Oracle VM Manager virtual machine,
the Oracle VM Manager configuration process will create server pool
and import the Oracle VM Manager virtual machine.
Two OS user accounts are created by default:
user: root password: ovsroot
user: oracle password: oracle
The user 'oracle' belongs to the 'oinstall' and 'dba' groups.
The default vnc console password is 'oracle'
3. Creating the Oracle VM Manager virtual machine
=================================================
1) Download the Oracle VM Manager Template (V19215-01.zip)
from http://edelivery.oracle.com/oraclevm
2) Login to the Oracle VM Server's dom0 as 'root'
Copy V19215-01.zip to your working directory with at least 4GB free space.
You can choose any directory on OVM Server except /OVS/running_pool.
This zip file contains the archive file OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM.tgz
and a deploy script Deploy_Manager_Template.sh
3) As root, run
# unzip V19215-01.zip
4) As 'root', run the deployment script:
# chmod 755 Deploy_Manager_Template.sh
# ./Deploy_Manager_Template.sh
The deployment script Deploy_Manager_Template.sh will complete the following
tasks:
a) prerequisite checking
b) uncompress OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM.tgz file to directory
/OVS/running_pool. This directory will contain the files following files:
/OVS/running_pool/OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM
|- System.img (OS image file)
|- Manager.img (Manager image file)
|- vm.cfg (VM configuration file)
|- README (Readme file)
c) generate and assign new MAC address to the virtual machine
d) interview the user for VM and VM Manager configuration parameters
(next section 'Deployment interview' provides the list of questions)
e) create and boot the virtual machine from the Oracle VM Server
command line
f) display the access information for Oracle VM Manager and Oracle VM
Manager VM
4. Deployment Interview
=======================
The deployment script will prompt a user to enter
a) Agent password
The agent password is required for the prerequisites check.
b) Storage configuration
Storage Source: NFS address, OCFS2 partition path
The script will automatically detect your cluster root storage repository
if you have configured it. Or it prompts users to input their storage source
and the script tries to set it up as cluster root.
NOTE: how to manually create your own storage repository in OracleVM server 2.2.x
1) Register your storage source. Example:
/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -n myhost:/mynfslocation
/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -n /dev/sdb3
Note that the storage source should have at least 15GB free space.
If the storage source is successfully registered, note down the uuid genereated
by the command above, such as:
51d4c69b-e439-41ac-8b31-3cc485c993b0 => /dev/sdb3
2) Mount your storage repository.
If the agent version is 2.3-27 or higher, execute:
/opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -i
otherwise, complete the following commands:
[1] mkdir -p /var/ovs/mount/$(echo <uuid> | sed s/-//g | tr '[:lower:]' \
'[:upper:]')"
where '<uuid>' is the uuid noted down in step 2)
[2] mount your storage source to the directory made in step [1].
3) If /OVS exists, delete or move /OVS
mv /OVS "/OVS.$(date '+%Y%m%d-%H%M%S').orig"
create a symbolic link from storage repository to /OVS
ln -nsf /var/ovs/mount/<UUID>/ /OVS
c) Network configuration
Static IP address
Netmask
Default Gateway IP address
DNS Server IP address
Hostname
d) Password for database accounts:
'SYS' and 'SYSTEM' (the same password the same password is used)
'OVS'
'oc4jadmin'
'admin'
e) Web Service configuration (supported in template in version 1.2)
Web Service password (at least 6 characters)
Enable HTTPS or not
f) SMTP server (outgoing mail server SMTP hostname)
E-mail Address for account 'admin'
g) Data for the manager services configuration:
Oracle VM Server Pool Name
Oracle VM Server login user name
Oracle VM Server login password
Note that Oracle VM Manager is critical for managing Oracle VM Server Pools.
Do not pause, suspend or shutdown this virtual machine! Configuring
HA is recommended for this virtual machine so that Oracle VM will
automatically restart the Oracle VM Manager virtual machine if there
is a server crash.
5. Known Issues
===============
1) You may see messages on a virtual machine's console similar to these
when the virtual machine is booting up:
Fatal: No PCI config space access function found
rtc: IRQ 8 is not free.
i8042.c: No controller found.
These messages can be ignored.
2) Mail server check fails.
Bug #7140 in bugzilla.oracle.com
Oracle VM Manager installer only checks the default SMTP port 25 for the
mail server. If the SMTP port is not 25, the check fails, and you will
see the following message:
Mail server '<mail server hostname>' check failed, want to re-enter it(Y|n)?
You can enter 'n' to skip the mail server checking. You will also see the
send mail checking fails with following message:
Failed to send mail to '<Admin e-mail address>'
want to re-enter the e-mail address(Y|n)?

4) If you accidentally power off Oracle VM Manager virtual machine through
Oracle Manager UI, and restart the virtual machine from OVM server command
line, although Oracle VM Manager virtual machine is running normally,
the virtual machine status in Manager UI will stay in 'Shutting Down'.
This is expected, as the virtual machine status sync will only happen when
the virtual machine status is "Error" or "Powered Off".
To re-sync the virtual machine status, please complete the following steps:
1. Log on the Manager UI;
2. Navigate to the 'Virtual Machines' tab;
3. Select Oracle VM Manager virtual machine, "OVM_EL5U3_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM";
4. Choose 'Reset' from 'More Actions' dropdown list;
5. Click 'Go' button, the status will become "Running" after a while.
5) (Bug 9191053) For OVS agent version 2.3-19, the following High
Availability scenario will not work.
"If a Virtual Machine Server fails, all running virtual machines are
restarted automatically on another available Virtual Machine Server."
For OVS agent 2.3-19, Oracle VM Manager virtual machine will not be
automatically restarted on any other available Virtual Machine Server,
but on the original Virtual Machine Server when it becomes available again.
To fix the issue, please upgrade OVS agent to 2.3-27 or the latest version.
